module 2004 / 2005 Porto, Portugal
. project I
Prof. Manuel José Soares (fa.up)
For this work of the 1st year at the faculty we were asked to make a study about a modular composition, through the union and disunion of square plates, each side measuring 3,2m. With this composition we should be able to design a new coffee shop for the Porto’s city park. In an attempt to make the global image of the proposal iconic (making it easy to be ‘read’) I created a simple scheme, with 3 main lines extending towards the lake (one functioning as an outdoor terrace, other with the cafeteria and the last one with the entrance path) crossed by a fourth line (functioning as the passageway).
.
Despite the simple scheme for the plan, I intended to give some complexity to the proposal when working with the vertical plans, taking advantage of a steep area of the terrain. Some modules were hence buried and some others were used in a game of void and full modulation of the terrain.

collective housing 2006 / 2007 Porto, Portugal
. project III Prof. LuĂs Viegas (fa.up)
This exercise for Project 3 was based on the renovation and arrangement of an urban void between two great buildings, Casa da MĂşsica by Rem Koolhaas and a Metro Station by Eduardo Souto de Moura, in one of the busiest areas of Porto, proposing new functions such as trading, services and housing. In a first phase, I redesigned the traffic lanes and the parking areas, then created the green public spaces, and finished this phase with the design of three new buildings. In a second phase, a limited area of the intervention (a sector) was selected for further development at a more detailed scale.
.
The selected area is part of the bigger / dominant building of the proposal, since it defines the whole interior of this block and its public spaces. This building includes shopping areas on the ground floor and housing programs on the other six floors.

museum for the city 2007 / 2008 Matosinhos, Portugal
. project IV Prof. Camilo Rebelo (fa.up)
This exercise for the 4th year at the university consisted on making a proposal for an empty block at Matosinhos, one of the core municipalities of Porto, with the design of a new public equipment - the museum. The program for this museum includes the creation of two showrooms, an auditorium, a coffee shop, a gift shop for the museum and rooms for educational services and workshops.
.
The proposal for the museum is consisted of three distinct volumes : • the central volume, with the great reception hall (having large window panes, one being the entrance on the museum through the exterior ‘hall’ square); • the west volume, lower than the central one, limiting the exterior ‘hall’ square and leading the visitors to the entrance (which is located near the gift shop and the education services); • the east volume, the highest and most enclosed one (with only a few openings to the exterior and with dark cladding made with slabs of slate), where the visitors can find the showrooms.

Prof. Peter Gabrijelčič
(fa.uni-lj)
The project developed for Matena, a small village outside Ljubljana, started from the analysis of the local population’s needs and ended with the presentation of solutions in the sphere of spatial planning and with the proposal of new public equipments. The population of Matena is divided in two groups: one with families that continue to work the fields for agriculture and other with families with their daily commute to work, mainly in Ljubljana. To help stop the abandonment of the fields, we chose to create a new ‘value’ for the village, giving it a new function / concept, which defines it and makes it more attractive.
.
For that, we created a new public space between the centre of the village and the farm fields, designing a new garden and support buildings, where is intended to function the new market and other services that serve the local population and, at the same time, attract more visitors from Ljubljana.

new areas for agriculture :
• the main feature of Matena is its large area of farm fields; these fields don’t have today the same use they had in the past, we • once proposed the creation of new farms, on the south of the village, acting as agricultural cooperatives for all the farms, capable of getting benefits from the extensive area of fields available.
new public space :
• designed between the village centre and the new areas for agriculture; intention is to join farmers (from Matena and from nearby villages) with the • the local population, by selling their products in the market while interacting and sharing the same public space;
• also, we expect to attract more visitors from Ljubljana, that will come to Matena to buy fresh products and admire the surrounding natural beauty.

workshop - Škofja Loka . 2008 / 2009 Škofja Loka, Slovenija
design studio V
Prof. Peter Gabrijelčič (fa.uni-lj) group work with : Kateline Debarsy and Jurij Globevnik
This project was developed in two different stages. The first stage was developed in group and consisted on the spatial planning for a mainly rural area on the north of the city of Škofja Loka. The urban plan designed included the definition of new streets, the creation of new areas for housing and the design of a city park alongside the river Suhe.
.
The project for the city park comprises the creation of parking areas on the north entrance, where one can initiate a walk with varied programs / activities. For example : the trail for walking or biking rides, where one can find and admire different animals and plants; the Summer Theatre, an open amphitheatre with a stage for live performances and concerts; the space Forma-Viva, a place for the exhibition of sculptures and art installation works; the wooden pier, circular platforms over the water for social interaction and contemplation.

workshop - Škofja Loka . 2008 / 2009 Škofja Loka, Slovenija
design studio V Prof. Peter Gabrijelčič
(fa.uni-lj)
This project was developed in two different stages. The second stage was developed individually and consisted on the creation of an area for housing at the city of Škofja Loka, with respect to the local and traditional Slovene architecture. For this kind of surroundings (a mixture between the countryside and the urban neighborhood) I chose to design single family houses. These types of housing guarantee the individuality and the sense of ownership that inhabitants look for in the countryside but, at the same time, they enable a healthy system of neighborhood relationships, by giving the people the possibility to share the public space.
.
The ‘cladding’ of all the houses is done using only one material: wood slats. These slats cover the vertical surfaces on the walls and also the inclined surfaces of the roof. The houses are defined and characterized by their neutral and minimalistic language, thus enhancing their geometry and volume.

Figueira da Foz and Buarcos
2011 ( September - November ) Figueira da Foz and Buarcos, Portugal
in collaboration with :
Diana Santos, Nuno Mota, Renata Polonia
The work process for this Competition started with the search for a global principle of our intervention, a principle that would allow us to structure a set of functions and pathways on this site. It was our intention to enhance the site's potential and give the city a new 'urban park'. The rules for this competition foresaw three levels of intervention: the arrangement of the urban front, the reorganization of the road circulation and a proposal for the occupation of the extensive beach.
.
Beach and city were, in our opinion, two disconnected realities, which led us to set as goal of the project to sew them back together. For that, it was necessary to create access paths to the beach and longitudinal paths to cross it, which suggested us the idea of a net - a net with setting points on the city (fixating it in the urban tissue) and a series of tension axis that pulls it out to the sea. Inside this net we attached a number of new functions, enriching the new 'urban park' of the city.

garden festival in collaboration with :
Diana Bizarro
This proposal was made for a competition that's held every year for the International Garden Festival of Ponte de Lima, where the participants choose one garden patch out of the 12 available and design a garden to a specific theme. In this case, the theme was the "garden of the senses". Our garden aims to provide a rich sensorial experience, by exploring the performativity of the space - kinesthesia - and by creating different atmospheres, one for each of the five senses (sight, hearing, taste, smell and touch).
.
For that, we created a undulant scenario that stimulates the body to wander through the garden and to discover the five stages, each one dedicated (in isolation) to one of the five senses. The scenario assumes an extremely important conceptual role in the garden, as it acts as the performative element that simultaneously separates and connects the five stages, establishing a sort of choreography between them.
