C L A SS I C R A N C HER GOES M ODER N FAR M S TEAD About an hour east of San Francisco, nestled among the tawny coastal hills, a 1960’s-era California Ranch style home on expansive grounds, was largely unchanged from its original inception; a testament to good taste and appreciation for the modernist movement. However, the original structure lacked the architectural elements essential to blending the outdoors with the indoors. A shame, given the region’s near perfect, year-round weather. This ranch style home remodel would yield sublime results. A team of trusted designers, builders and landscape experts envisioned a new millennium makeover for the residents—a family of five who love to cook and entertain. Combining a vintage, modern and industrial aesthetic, the couple’s objective was an artful blend of locally and sustainably sourced items to complement their personalities and unpretentious, laid back way of life.
LAFAYETTE COMPOUND
C O Z Y FAM I LY ES CAPE Built in the late 1970’s this idyllic Lake Tahoe shores home remained largely unchanged until our clients purchased it in 2014. Their goal was to create a kidfriendly vacation home interior with lots of room for family and friends – for generations to come.
TAHOE LAKEFRONT
F R OM DR AB TO FAB The moment we met these clients and learned about their project, we knew it was going to be an absolute dream. Starting with the easy connection that we experienced with the clients, their immediate willingness to place their trust in us, combined with the clients’ style and taste level, the budget, the location, the vision — all added up to a perfect synergy for everyone involved. It is such a fulfilling experience for us to nurture the transformation of a somewhat lackluster shelter into a charming, modern and deeply welcoming home.
MODERN ROCKRIDGE BUNGALOW
R E S TFUL R ETR EAT This room was designed for the Piedmont Heart of the Home Tour . We love doing showcase houses because it gives us the opportunity to design with no restrictions. We envisioned this room as a restful retreat for the lady of the house who was a well traveled fashion designer. The home is a Spanish Mediterranean and has many Moroccan inspired details throughout the house. We started with the star light fixture which was original to the 1920’s architecture and layered on Moorish details to create a well curated room the tour guests thoroughly enjoyed. We had more than a few ask if they could take a nap.
ELEGANT MOROCCAN MASTER
T R ADI S H WI TH A TWI S T I love working on California Ranch Style homes. They are so flexible. We can push them toward mid-century for the clients with an appreciation for modern or we can skew them toward a more traditional vibe. In this case our client, a Southern Belle with a love of France, wanted a classic home that felt warm, welcoming and timeless, to greet her and her husband when they return from their trips abroad.
LAFAYETTE TRADITIONAL RANCHER
D O W N T O EAR TH CLAS S I C BEAUTY This stately home with its classic bones and open, sunny rooms is so beautiful it was selected as one of the houses to be featured on the Crocker Highlands Home Tour. We were delighted to be the interior design team to decorate the rooms since the couple’s aesthetic is so in tune with those of LMB Interiorselegant, authentic and personal. With the restful color palette, quality, textured fabrics and tasteful furniture the design supports this young family to live beautifully and functionally at the same time.
CROCKER HIGHLANDS MODERN CRAFTSMAN
Laura Martin Bovard While I was growing up, my family moved frequently due to my father’s work, uprooting and re-rooting my siblings and me in new locales. I experienced on a visceral level how the way we decorate our homes can give one a sense of belonging, of ease, and how doing it sooner than later allowed us to settle in and get on with the important stuff of life. In my teens, under the tutelage of a very elegant and stylish mentor I discovered a passion for art and design. And later, as an English major at U.C. Berkeley, I began a romance with the world of fine dining and wines, by immersing myself in the restaurant industry, when not studying or decorating my apartment. All of which led me to travel in France and Italy — for the art, food, and wine. In Europe, I became even more conscious of how design and culture intersect; how we weave the threads of our personal lives and our culture into a rich tapestry that makes up our environment and that is what I strive to bring to my client’s lives. These powerful experiences formed the foundation of my core values as an interior designer: creating welcoming havens of beauty, comfort and grace that call us to perform the rituals of home and community — connecting with others, cooking together, dining together, playing, relaxing. When I am not designing homes and restaurants I enjoy creating energy rich life experiences like cooking and exercising with my friends and family and practicing the art of self-care with focused intention.
Our Team I started LMB Interiors when I was pregnant with my first born child out of our dining room and now more than a decade later my sole proprietorship has blossomed into a firm with a team of talented, dynamic people who exude the same values I started the company withauthenticity, warmth and an approach to interior design that is classic and timeless and livable. All of the people who work with me have one thing in common, they are down to earth and they each bring a super power to enhance the process for our clients. Interior design can sometimes be a stuffy business and we are anything but. We want our clients to relax and enjoy the process and each of the people who work with me care deeply about our clients and their homes. “Laura is a wonderfully talented designer. I have worked with her on everything from choosing patio furniture to designing my young daughter’s room to selecting exterior paint colors. She designed a cohesive look for our family’s pool house, coordinating the furniture, light fixtures, bath and kitchen materials, paint, fabrics, and accessories. The result is a beautiful and stylish but comfortable space where my family feels at home. Laura is a great listener and I knew from our first meeting that she wanted my family to truly love the space we were designing. Our time together is spent not only designing rooms, but also laughing and sharing stories about our lives.” -Jen, client
