prĂŠsentation

Hello, my name is Laura-May Dessagne. I am a young french architect, degreed from ENSA Montpellier. After three years at Studio Associato Bernardo Secchi and Paola Vigano, I'm looking for a new experience more architecture-oriented. After validating the theoretical part of the authorisation to practice as an architect, I would like to learn more about building site, in order to finish my training (called HMONP in french). I enjoy teamwork, learning new knowledge and sharing them with my colleagues. My training in architecture taught me the necessity of taking into account the location and the environmental issues, which are for me at the heart of the project. Leaf through my portfolio!

Urban project of a new city part (140 ha, 4500 new housing, 100.000 m2 facilities, the necessary equipments) in a disused military zone. The project stands against any rhetoric of the big gesture and tries to address the functional, social and visual complexity of the contemporary societies. The theme of the public place is at the center of the project. Parks and continuities structure the various sectors.

I worked as a designer of: - from study phase to executive phase of sector masterplans: Pole Courrouze, Euroshelter, Pilate and Pole Mermoz; - Specification notes of each programs - Feasibility studies in various areas of the ZAC.

The project of "Ridges and rivers" is a new grid of the public space/ mobility where smalls plots create aeration inside the fabric and new visibility for facilities and equipment to grow. The feasibility on Casernes du Muy is the first shot that can activate the reconversion of the neighbourhood. The project aims at giving permeability to this military zone.

The Guide Plan presents strategies, which can be adapted with an uncertain progress, undetermined priorities and open questions. The project is to connect the future district with the city of Paris with two strong spaces : - The " anteroom of the park of La Courneuve", the backbone of organization of Olympics sports equipments with the JO village of the media, - A very strategic viaire axis, where equipments and the village media would be recycled and integrated into a new city piece, an urban continuity to affirm.

Designer of Plan guide and diverses strategies of adaption in case of upcoming Olympics..

36 laura-may dessagne portfolio

One guide plan: strategies for a inhabitable territory Typologies are mixed, with double systems of houses and collectives in strips which allow games of scales. They enrich the landscape and produce a strong typological variety and a variety of open spaces. Living in the plateau allows to benefit from visual openings and from an immediate contact with the broad landscape. Southward, the views open onto the ponds and the trees of the cemetery. The edge of the plateau forms an equipped " park " with playing fields and games for children, near the school. Northward, routes and views go on towards the Winds area which forms a event park hosting metropolitan practices (events, festivals, fairs...) but also day-to-day events.

The study and the elaboration of the urban project "Montpellier 2040" was a unique experience. From three images defining the identity of the city (the beautiful city - the humanist - the place to be), a one-year field work with the local actors, the services and the inhabitants, led us to a road map for the next forty years, defining strategies to address the arrival of 50.000 new inhabitants, the environmental issues and economic resources, as well as challenges posed by climate change and an increasing social tension due to a high unemployment rate.

As an intern, I helped realise graphic documents and models, I developed tests projects and took part to the animation and particaption of the inhabitants, organised a workshop with Bernardo Secchi et Paola Vigano at my school ENSA Montpellier.

My final year project is linked to the vision and the work produced during my intership on the "Montpellier 2040” project. The urban project proposes different strategies to reconnect universities to the city-center and to make closed universities areas permeable.

The architectural project illustrates big-scale strategies. It works on three themes: - the openness of this enclosed site, - the extension of the building creating an urban façade on the Voie Domitienne, - the requalification of the boulevard in a large public space with busway and cycle paths. New metropolitan fonctions as the media-library, facilities and the Verdanson park and its shops, transform the faculty into an included part of the city.

Gimel houses Avenue de Gimel Dense individual housing in the city 2d year of Master "MĂŠtropĂ´les du Sud" Master

info

Ecole Nationale supÉrieure d'Architecture montpellier (fr) january 2013 dir. Michel MARAVAL pascal Perris

The project takes place in the suburb of Montpellier. The masterplan fits to level curves, urbanizing half of the ground, having a low impact of excavated/ fill material and preserving existing afforestations as park and space of retention. Space for cars is reduced to a minimum with one road per two strips and shared parking lots. A pedestrian alley goes through two strips, to connected themselves to parking lots and little public squares. All the buildings take advantage of the view and the south orientation.

Houses are established on a predefined division. All of them have the capacity to be densified, preserving a space for garden and allowing to rent or to resell a part of the plot. The limestone wall distinguishes semidetached houses, being both transformed into bearing wall and separative garden barriers. Public places as little pockets inside the urban tissue give rhythm to alleyways and provide gathering spaces.
