THE WEST COAST CONFERENCE & 2014 BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS The West Coast Conference traces its beginnings to 1952, where the California Basketball Association was created to provide a venue for five San Francisco Bay Area schools to compete in basketball - including Saint Mary's College, the University of San Francisco, and Santa Clara University. The conference expanded to include Loyola Marymount University and Pepperdine University in 1955, becoming the West Coast Athletic Conference. In 1977, the University of Portland joined the WCAC (shortened to WCC in 1989). Then in 2011-12, BYU became the first full member to join the West Coast Conference since Gonzaga University and the University of San Diego began competing in the WCAC in 1979. More change is happening this 2013-14 season as the University of the Pacific becomes the WCC's 10th member. With the addition, the 2014 WCC Basketball Championships will see some change. What won't change is the venue, as the Championships return to Las Vegas and the Orleans Arena. The tournament will feature a new format, running from March 6 - March 11, 2013, with the title game taking place on Tuesday. LMU season ticket holders have priority access to purchase WCC Basketball Championships tickets, which can be purchased with your LMU season ticket. Tickets will be in hot demand, and for the first time, the Conference is anticipating no public sale as all tickets will be purchased through the school allotments. So act now and get your tickets to the 28th Annual WCC Championships!
