LION TRACKS: Trailing 7-5 headed to the bottom of the sixth, LMU used a grand slam from Phil Caulfield to claim

a lead it would not relinquish en route to capturing a 10-7 victory over CSU Bakersfield on Wednesday night ... in addition to the homer from Caulfield, LMU also received a two-run shot from freshman Trevin Esquerra to tie the game at 2-2 in the second ... Niko Decolati and Joe Murray each finished with multiple hits, as Decolati went 3-for-5 with a run scored, a double and one RBI ... Murray, who made the start in left field, went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, a double and two RBI ... Harrison Simon ultimately earned the victory and moved to 1-1 after tossing 1.1 scoreless innings and benefitting from Caulfield’s blast ... Decolati threw the final 2.0 scoreless frames, walking one while striking out three to secure his second save of the year. SIMPLY...PERFECT: Cory Abbott dealt the first perfect game in LMU and West Coast Conference history on Saturday, March 25 in a 2-0 victory over BYU ... the right-hander struck out a career-high 13 hitters and used 106 pitches to dispatch of the Cougars ... the perfect game was the first at the Division I level this year, and was the 26th since 1957 (last: Jesse Scholtens, Wright State, 3/11/16 ... Abbott, who improved to 4-1 with the victory, sealed the perfect game with a strikeout of pinch hitter Tanner Chauncey, striking Chauncey out on a 3-2 pitch ... LMU had thrown two previous no-hitters, including current volunteer assistant Matt Florer's no-hitter against Cal State Northridge on April 23, 2013 ... Bob Seus had LMU's first-ever no-hitter, limiting Long Beach State to just two walks and a hit batter on March 14, 1980 ... WALK IT OFF, BILLY: Junior Billy Wilson crushed a walk-off solo home run right down the line in right field in

the bottom of the 10th to hand LMU a 4-3 victory over USC on 3/14 ... the walk-off homer was the first for LMU since Chris Pettit left Saint Mary’s on the field in a 16-14 victory on May 8, 2005 ... the walk-off win was also the first of the year for LMU (last: 4/18/15 vs. Pacific).

IN 2016, LMU: Dropped 6 of its last 8 overall ... earned five All-WCC selections ... played just two extra-inning

San Diego, which received five of nine possible first-place votes, topped the conference poll, earning 77 points, while Gonzaga (three) and the Pepperdine (two) both earned at least one first-place vote. THROW STRIKES AND PLAY CATCH: LMU has played well on the defensive side of the ball throughout Jason Gill’s tenure, with last year serving as no exception ... LMU’s pitching staff walked just 151 batters last year - third best in LMU history ... three of the top-five single-season walks-per-game marks also came in 2016, as Blake Redman set a new LMU record (.98), followed by J.D. The 2010 season also culminated in the first All-American selection under Gill as a head coach, as 2010 West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year Matt Lowenstein was named a Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper and Ping!Baseball. • The Lions’ 8-2 start in 2009 was the best since the 1988 season, and it was also the best start over the first 10 games for a first-year skipper in LMU program history ... Gill’s 2009 squad finished the year with a 9-2 record against ranked-opponents, including recording a four-game sweep of then-defending National Champion Fresno State and a crucial three-game sweep over WCC-foe San Diego ... • Prior to returning to LMU for the 2017 season, Gill spent the summer of 2016 serving his second stint with Team USA’s Collegiate National Team ... The 2016 Americans posted an 11-7-1 record, including recording the first-ever series win at Cuba (3-2) ... For their efforts, the Collegiate National Team was named USA Baseball’s Team of the Year ... At the conclusion of the 2012 campaign, Gill spent the summer of 2012 serving as an assistant coach for the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team, helping the squad to a 12-5 record and a bronze medal after finishing 5-2 at Honkbal Week hosted at Pim Mulier Stadium in the Netherlands. PREVIOUS COACHING EXPERIENCE

• For the four years preceding his start as LMU’s seventh skipper in program history, Gill worked under head coach George Horton at Oregon and Cal State Fullerton, serving as an infield coach, recruiting coordinator and as a primary hitting instructor ... Gill was Horton’s first hire as both men left Cal State Fullerton to begin the reconstruction of the Duck baseball program in 2007 ... Always considered one of the best recruiters in college baseball, Gill’s 2007 recruiting class was ranked in the top-10 in the nation by both Collegiate Baseball and Baseball America. • In the three years preceding the move to Eugene, Ore., the Titans made it to Omaha and the College World Series twice, won two Big West Conference titles and had 35 players drafted ... The three-year stint under Horton was Gill’s second on the Fullerton coaching staff, having started his coaching career as an undergraduate assistant for legendary skipper, and Division I baseball’s all-time winningest coach, Augie Garrido ...
