I hope you all had a fantastic summer and are looking forward to a busy fall. We happily welcomed new and returning apprentices for the first day of classes this September and look forward to celebrating the 10th Anniversary of National Apprentice Week this November. Join us in celebrating Local 534’s apprenticeship program by reading more on page 6.

ANNOUNCING: 2024-2025 SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
Boston Plasterers & Cement Masons
Local 534 is proud to partner with the Massachusetts AFL-CIO to award two scholarships each year in the amount of $1,000 each. The Frank E. Ternan / Labor Management Scholarships are available to the children of Local 534 members and awarded to the two who score highest on the Labor History Exam.
KEY DATES:
The deadline to apply and register for the exam is Friday, December 20, 2024 by 5pm.
The exam will be administered at high schools across Massachusetts between February 3 – February 7, 2025.

SPOTLIGHT ON APPRENTICES
A warm welcome to our new apprentices who are diving right into our work and learning from our instructors in the classroom and out in the field. Our industry-leading program prepares apprentices with the skills and knowledge they need to be successful and perform our work efficiently and correctly. This November celebrates the 10th Anniversary of National Apprenticeship Week, which will be recognized this year from November 17 – November 23. We are proud of the Local 534 apprenticeship program and look forward to watching our apprentices learn and grow with us!

PREPARE FOR COLD WEATHER!
The mornings are noticeably colder and the evenings are darker. Now is the time to prepare for hazardous cold weather conditions so that you can stay active and well throughout the winter season. Bring out your extra layers so that they are readily available to you! While on the job site, wear appropriate clothing that can be adjusted with variable conditions and stay hydrated throughout the day. Both of these actions can help protect you against cold injuries, which can be serious and even life-threatening. Take breaks when possible and put your safety first! If you have any issues, please reach out to your union for assistance.
ELECTION DAY: NOVEMBER 5
Do you have a plan for Election Day? Check your polling location and hours by visiting your state's official website. It is our responsibility as union workers to vote for labor-friendly candidates in our local, state and national elections. Do your research so that you're prepared to vote for candidates who support workers and their families on November 5.
