SPARROW CLINTON FOUNDATION

M*A*S*H Fantasy Fundraiser delivers emergency entertainment

Shake off those winter doldrums and mark your calendar for Saturday, March 28. That’s when Sparrow Clinton Hospital Foundation hosts its M*A*S*H Fantasy Fundraiser at Smith Hall in the Clinton County Fairgrounds. Our 2015 event celebrates the M*A*S*H theme with a USO-style stage show provided by Ruhala Performing Arts. The production includes musical numbers popular during the Korean War, as well as patriotic songs, music from the M*A*S*H* television series, and improvisational comedy skits.

Don’t be surprised if you run into Hot Lips Houlihan, Father Mulcahy, Radar O’Reilly, Corporal Klinger or Hawkeye Pierce while having a drink at Rosie’s Bar or your photo taken in The Swamp. A strolling dinner, silent auction, lookalike contest, and slide show salute to current and past members of the Armed Forces round out the evening’s entertainment. This is an event you won’t want to miss, so look for more details about tickets and sponsorships in January 2015.

“ Caregivers cut their ribbon during the July 30 Family and Friends Open House

This was a challenging project to undertake in the course of one short year, and we couldn’t have done it without the dedication and generous support of our community. So, THANK YOU for helping us to build a better future for the health of our community! Ed Bruun, President & CEO Sparrow Clinton Hospital When we opened this campaign last year, we had no idea how powerful the community response to our request for donations would become. More than 400 gifts have been received. We greatly appreciate every donation. Each contribution reflects the trust and faith people have in Sparrow Clinton Hospital and the wonderful care they receive here. THANK YOU for helping us build this first-class facility. Dave Hunt, Chairman Right Here, Right Now Capital Campaign

Celebrating our donors

In our recent Right Here, Right Now capital campaign, the first gift came as a bequest from a 102-year-old school teacher. The last gift was from an 18-year-old college student who was working her first part time job at Sparrow Clinton Hospital. This $5.7 million project to build a new Emergency Services Department at Sparrow Clinton Hospital was generously supported by $1.6 million in community donations. These funds were combined with the Alice Jumper Estate gift to create $2.2 million in community philanthropic support. Community and Sparrow leaders “cut the ribbon” July 30, celebrating with a series of donor, Caregiver and public open houses. The SCH Emergency Services Department officially opened its doors to Patients on Aug. 6. This campaign generated unprecedented support. Thanks to your donation, our community now has a readily accessible, technologically advanced healing environment where our Patients and their families receive the very best in local health care when care is most needed.

Over and over again, patrons have shared their excitement about the new Emergency Services Department and the role they each have played in making this beautiful facility a reality. Kerry Stock-Sheen, Chairperson Sparrow Clinton Hospital Foundation Our community’s heartfelt outpouring of support for construction of this facility is truly inspiring to the Emergency Services team. This magnitude of generosity is overwhelming and far exceeds our expectations. We are excited and re-energized by the opportunity to provide the very best patient care experience in this brand new facility. Our team is thrilled with their new work environment. Diane Simon, RN, BSN, Manager Sparrow Clinton Hospital Emergency Services Department Sparrow Clinton Hospital’s new Emergency Services Department is an excellent asset. Its modern work environment and private rooms create the kind of healing space our Patients and their families deserve. The new trauma rooms are a true gift to the emergency team. During some shifts, I use the trauma rooms for emergency treatment as many as three times a day. This new facility, combined with improved ease of access through electronic medical records and changes in our triage and registration processes, helps us provide better Patient care. New recognition wall delights donors Many positive comments have been received with regard to the Right Here, Right Now donor recognition wall at Sparrow Clinton Hospital. Located in the connecting corridor (donated by the Sparrow Clinton Hospital Auxiliary) this stunning glass wall lists the names of all community donors who contributed more than $500 as well as all our Caregiver donors. Many patrons who attended the July 30 donor open house commented on the wall, searching for their names and the names of family and friends. “That’s exactly the response we hoped for,” says SCH Foundation Committee Chairperson Kerry Sheen-Stock.

“This campaign really challenged our donors and we want them to know how grateful we are.” In addition, special donor tributes were created for three transformational donors: Alice Jumper for her bequest to the hospital; Agro-Culture Liquid Fertilizers for the lead campaign gift; and Doug and Eloise Cook for generous campaign support. The next time you come to the hospital, please take time to walk down the corridor to visit the donor wall and recognize the people who have helped transform health care in our community for years to come.

Sparrow Clinton Hospital’s current 16slice CT is in need of an upgrade. Medical imaging has evolved greatly over the years, creating much more powerful, leading-edge technology. A state-of-the-art CT produces exquisitely detailed images to help physicians pinpoint and track disease in its earliest stages as well as plan appropriate treatment. When time is of the essence, an advanced CT unit can deliver unmatched image quality in a much shorter period of time. The speed of imaging is especially import for examination of cardiac, vascular, neurologic, and trauma Patients. It also makes a dierence for those who have diďŹƒculty holding their breath such as children and the elderly. Sparrow Clinton Hospital has applied for a certificate of need – the first step toward acquiring a new, more advanced CT scanner and the best step toward rapid, local treatment of patients in our community.

What’s on the Horizon? “When time is of the essence, an advanced CT unit can deliver unmatched image quality in a much shorter period of time.

With the outstanding success of our Right Here Right Now capital campaign, Sparrow Clinton Hospital Foundation should be able to kick back and relax, right? Not really. Reaching our fundraising goal was only part of the campaign. Many of our donors pledged their support for multiple years, so over the next few years, we will continue to remind them of their commitment as well as communicate the vital role their ongoing donations play in the quality of Patient care at Sparrow Clinton Hospital. When one door closes another opens, and the Foundation is developing a new campaign in support of the next critical need at Sparrow Clinton Hospital – a new Computed Tomography (CT) scanner. CT scanners use special X-ray equipment to take multiple pictures – or slices – of internal structures. A computer program then reconstructs all these slices into detailed, two and three dimensional images. An advanced CT unit is highly eective in identifying heart disease, stroke, and bone disorders.
