Lots of places make great pancakes, but if you’ve never had Orange Ricotta Haute Cakes, it’s about time that you did! Family owned and operated for nearly 30 years, Haute Cakes Caffe is a Newport Beach favorite that’s known for its lovely atmosphere and delicious, next-level food. All of the pastries, breakfast and lunch items are prepared fresh daily. With generations of devoted patrons, Haute Cakes Caffe has continued to be one of Orange County’s favorite dining spots.
Haute Cakes Caffe has been a Westcliff Court favorite since 1990. Owned and operated by Paul and Tania Taddeo, this chic little cafe has recently undergone an extensive renovation and now features updated indoor and outdoor seating, vintage bakery cases, walls of gorgeous, hand-glazed English tile and custom tables of white French oak. Sophisticated yet comfy is the vibe, and with so many delicious choices on the menu, it’s a true favorite for Newport locals. Tania adds, “Our very first customer still comes in. We have had some of our customers’ kids work here throughout the years. We love this community and we’ve been so blessed.”
After first serving only pastries and coffee, Haute Cakes Caffe became a full restaurant thanks to Paul realizing that the time was right for more. “There was kind of a void at the time when it came to really great desserts and pastries,” he explains.
“Then we added a coffee bar and slowly added dishes to the menu.”
And that menu had a rising star: the Orange Ricotta Haute Cakes. Friends and customers alike instantly fell in love with “their fluffy goodness.” According to Paul, “They have been a favorite here for 20 plus years and people just keep coming back for more!” The cakes are airy and light while the ricotta keeps them moist inside. Tania explains, “The fresh orange zest really enhances the flavor. We serve them with a warm, housemade, fresh berry compote.” The dish is a complete meal in itself, but if you care to make it a Haute Combination, you can add applewood smoked bacon or pork link sausage and two eggs your way.
In addition to the Orange Ricotta Haute Cakes and the rest of the delicious breakfast menu, Haute Cakes features lunch items that are sure to impress. Sandwiches such as the Pan Roasted Chicken Breast and the B.L.T.A. will make your mouth water. Impressive salads, such as the Roasted Salmon and Chicken Paillard, feature tasty housemade dressings.
One of the (many) wonderful things about Haute Cakes Caffe is that everything is made fresh every single day. All of the pastries, batters and even salad dressings are made from scratch with top-notch ingredients. Breakfast and lunch menus are available all day so you’ll be able to enjoy whatever you happen to be craving in the moment. Orange Ricotta Haute Cakes as a midday snack? Yes, please!
