I’m feeling quite proud of myself for achieving this milestone, and to my surprise, I find I’m still enjoying the process. Just as well, really, as the magazines have become a huge part of my life. 10 years have gone by so quickly! Back then, I was working in the Civil Service, our kids were 14 and 11. Now, I work from home full time (which is just so lovely) and both children are living and working away - our son in Manchester and our daughter in Edinburgh. It’s so true there is nothing more constant than change! I thought this year, I should have a little celebration of the 10 year anniversary. You can read about it and my heartfelt thanks to all of you on pages 26 and 27. Without your support, I wouldn't have a business and so wouldn't be celebrating. Here’s to the next 10 years! Sarah-Jane’s feet haven’t touched the ground since having her second baby. She was feeling frumpy and fed up, but realised that enough was enough when she was avoiding being photographed with her lovely new baby. She says, “I decided something had to change, I was feeling miserable and decided to join Slimming World.” Sarah-Jane admits being nervous on her first night, but the group was so friendly and welcoming. She says, “I was determined to never see that number again.” Sarah-Jane lost 5 ½ lbs in her first week and has lost steadily since then. With a total loss to date of 2 stone, she has been amazed at how quickly the weight has come off and how easy it has been. She says, “It’s just proper cooking that my whole family can eat. I make chips, curries, bolognese and ‘fakeaways’ at the weekend so I don’t feel like I’m missing out.” She has also enjoyed social events, continued to enjoy her treats, and has thrown herself into making gorgeous slimming world friendly deserts. She says, “No-one believes that I’m slimming when they see the gorgeous foods that I’m enjoying every day. I also use my slow cooker a lot so It’s not time consuming. I love Slimming World because I can have my cake and eat it every day! I’m never hungry and I never feel deprived.”

We’re Celebrating 10 fantastic years in business! The Carryduff Focus magazine is 10 years old this month. And the BT8 Focus is 9 years old. Apparently only around 10% of businesses survive until their 10th anniversary. That’s a shocking statistic, but I’m very glad and proud to say I’m now part of that ten percent. The magazines have come a long way – when I look at the first couple of issues (pictured far right) I see how much I’ve learnt over the years! The first Carryduff Focus was 32 pages - black and white inside with a colour cover and was only distributed to half of Carryduff each month. That soon changed when I realised how well it was received. After a year, I started publishing the BT8 Focus, at first quarterly, and then later every other month. This was followed a couple of years later by the Local Focus for Saintfield and Ballygowan.

‘The History of Ballymacarrett’ Once again we are privileged to have Aidan Campbell returning to give us an illustrated & spoken history on the Ballymacarrett area of East Belfast. Aidan is an author of numerous books on local history and his latest book ‘Ballymacarrett’ launched in October 2016. The talk takes place on Monday 14th November at 8pm in the Committee Room of Lough Moss Leisure Centre.

ST ITA’S PRIMARY SCHOOL ECO Team has the very important job of ensuring our school is an environmentally friendly place. Our school now has Green Flag status. This year’s team will be in charge of recycling, composting materials, saving energy in our school and carrying out weekly spot checks on classes and awarding them Eco Warrior Award points for carrying out our Eco Code. We are also very lucky to have Ms. Smart working closely with all year groups to develop our school garden and grounds. All year groups will have the chance to plant different fruit, vegetables and flowers. At the start of each year P4 to P7 pupils select a boy and girl from their class to represent them on the ECO Team. The team will meet regularly with Miss Cunningham and Miss Houston to discuss and talk about their ideas, as well as carry out different duties that will contribute towards making our school an Eco-friendly school. Dates for your Diary School closed for one week from Monday 31st October and reopens on Monday 7th November 2016. Parent –Teacher Meetings will take place on Friday 25th November 2016. CARRYDUFF HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Join a friendly and fun community choir. No auditions or previous experience is needed we have a very mixed ability choir from those who sing in the shower, to ex choristers. Some read music, some learn from ear but with rehearsal each Friday evening everyone works well together and we make a fantastic sound.

An illustrated talk on ‘The Silent Valley Reservoir’ by Dr Philip Donald FICS, to include the connection to Knockbracken Reservoir, will be held on Monday 12th September at 8pm in the Committee Room of Lough Moss Leisure Centre.

We sing musical theatre, classical, jazz, gospel, a bit of everything. We hope to see you there!

The talks are open to non-members but if you would like to join just come along and have a chat with the Membership Secretary (Treasurer).
