High quality huts for everyone

From their location in Mo i Rana, Ranahytta has delivered high quality holiday huts to customers across Norway since 1974. Their experts are passionate about building functional huts tailored to their customers’ requirements, and every hut is still produced at their base in Mo i Rana.

Ranahytta began building huts in 1974. In the first few years, the brand built notched timber huts, based on local traditions and building styles. But then the Olsen family—who still run Ranahytta today—had a different idea. They would build half-timbered huts and houses that could be produced and delivered as sections to be completed on site. Over 40 years later, this has proven to be a winning formula.

Today, Ranahytta’s modern production facilities at Mo i Rana ensure that their customers receive huts and houses of the highest quality, that are long-lasting and weather resistant—in the famous northern Norwegian tradition. The company is still managed by Hege Olsen, the third generation of the Olsen family to be in charge.

But while the company is proud of its roots in Northern Norway, this doesn’t limit what it aims to achieve with its products—as Annine Arnesen Gubrandsen, Ranahytta’s digital marketing manager explains.

“While we’re based up here, we deliver huts to all over Norway, and even parts of Sweden,” she tells Localfolk.

“We’re much less interested in our location than in our ability to deliver high-quality huts that can be assembled anywhere.”

Ranahytta’s product catalogue shows that the brand excels at doing exactly that. The product range contains hut designs that would suit almost anyone—from smaller spaces to large cabins with several bedrooms and the most modern facilities. Meanwhile, the quality of the design and build allows the huts to be placed in all of Norway’s diverse environments, from the snow and wind of the mountains to the coast with long summers and autumn rains. And they’re designed to last for generations.

“Our hut designs are typically for people that want to enjoy the flexibility and simplicity of traditional hut life, but who also want modern facilities and quality materials that reduce the need for maintenance,” Annine says.

The typical customer is therefore not the first-time hut buyer, but rather people that have some experience in hut life and are now ready to invest money into the hut of their dreams. They often have a good idea of what they want before the design process starts, and the experts at Ranahytta are happy to work with them to develop their ideas into workable designs.

“Our designers can, in principle, design anything the customer wants, and they work very closely with the customer to ensure the final design meets the dreams and expectations of the customer,” Annine explains.

Annine underlines the flexibility of the hut element system developed by the company, which allows each base model to be adapted to the individual wishes and dreams of each customer, whilst remaining true to the original proven base model.

Yet Ranahytta does more than just the construction. The brand also provides assistance in handling the formalities of the building process and employs experts in building law and project management. This means the company can advise the customer from the very first step of buying a piece of land for the hut, all the way through to delivering a key-ready hut on that land.

While Ranahytta operates nationally, it remains based in the north. All hut elements are produced locally at their factory in Mo i Rana, and the company cooperates closely with the major suppliers of building materials to ensure they source only the highest quality building materials. They also work with local sub-contractors that deliver stairs and windows, and Annine emphasises that the company is conscious about contributing to growth and development in their local area.

“With the current uncertainties in Europe, price changes and interest rate hikes, we’re aware that the market for huts could take a hit in the next few years,” says Annine. Having a solid foundation with good local and national partners, therefore, is a key part of the strategy for the future.

Luckily, Norwegians are a hut-loving people—and they’re committed to their dreams of owning their own little piece of paradise, whether in the mountains, in the valleys, or on the coast. Ranahytta will continue to deliver that dream from their base in Mo i Rana.
