Friends of the Milton Library Delighted to Announce Recent Purchases
VISIT THE TEEN ROOM AT THE Milton Library and you may notice a subtle change. Friends of the Milton Library are pleased to announce the purchase of additional, much needed shelving for this designated space for teens. Due to the popularity of the room, the library administrators came to us with a request for additional shelving so that they can highlight and expand miltonlibraryfriends.org
the collections available at the library for local teenagers. Additionally, Friends of the Milton Library have purchased a large Maker Space cart, filled with supplies that the librarians plan to use for their STEM programming. We are looking forward to learning what the community will produce with this new library resource.

2nd Annual
Milton Tour of Homes a Resounding SUCCESS! FOR THE SECOND YEAR, THE MILTON TOUR OF HOMES has had a sell-out for its tour to benefit the Friends of Milton Library. Five homeowners in Milton graciously opened their beautiful homes for the annual Milton Tour of Homes. This year’s theme was “Harvest of Homes” given the October 21st & 22nd dates. Proceeds benefit the Friends of the Milton Library a 501(c)(3) a non-profit organization who fund programs and capital items as needed by the Milton Library. Our 5 beautiful homes were professionally decorated and designed in an Autumn theme by Urban Farmhouse and Scottsdale Farms in conjunction with the

homeowners themselves. Seven hundred tour attendees were transported via luxury buses to each home. Although the number of tickets were doubled from last year, the Tour still sold out in less than three hours. The response from the attendees was overwhelmingly positive. Virtually every attendee unequivocally recommended the Tour to others and plan to attend next year’s Tour. This year’s Tour raised $36,000 via (continued)

sponsorships from local businesses, a VIP event held at the magnificent home of a Milton resident, and through ticket sales. The Tour of Homes was organized by a dedicated committee of ten and 100 other volunteers who spent over one thousand hours preparing for and working the Tour.

Lobby Shop Updates
Book Barn
FOML IS FORTURNATE to have two book stores at the Library: the book barn outside, and the self-service lobby shop located near the vending machines. Donated books are dated when they arrive and placed in the book barn for sale. The barn holds around 10-12,000 books. After six months in the barn they are pulled inside to the selfservice lobby shop for a month, and then shipped to one of our partner organizations. Books currently in the lobby through the end of 2017 include romances, politics, mass market authors, and non-fiction children’s books.

BOOK BARN
Vintage Sheet Music
Finds & Unique Treasures
STOP BY THE BOOK BARN and you might find a special piece of history to own, including some vintage sheet music dated 1900. This music was written for voice and piano and distributed through local American newspapers, including the New York Journal. They often included advertisements for the music publishers, or for the newspapers in which they were printed. The songs we have available can be found in collections that have been digitized at the Library of Congress and the Duke University Libraries and are on sale in the barn for the extremely low price of $1.00 each. If you’re looking for something uniquely more modern, we are now featuring a large selection of comic books titles
ranging from Batman to Ducktales to The Tick. There’s a little something for the kid in all of us in there. Many customers have been asking about our new glass cabinet. It is the IKEA FABRIKÖR for those curious and the books inside are our “Found Treasures” that have been identified as valuable. We are currently featuring an 11-volume set of The Story of Civilization by Will and Ariel Durant. Please ask one of our book barn volunteers to see it or any of the other “finds” we have available.

Study Rooms The Library has individual “study rooms” for guests looking for a more private space to read, work or study. These rooms are available on a first come, first served basis to any patron with a valid Atlanta-Fulton Public Library card in good standing. Sign in for a room at the Information Desk and then place the “Study Room In Use” sign on the window hook outside the room you will be using. Each patron is allowed a maximum of two hours if there is another waiting for a room. This is no food allowed in these rooms and no beverages, except water. The study rooms must be left in good condition, clean and ready for the next patron. Afterward the sign should be returned to the Information Desk.
