Jodie's story
I decided to join Slimming World after having my son, I had heard people saying they didn't recognise me due to how much weight I gained through pregnancy, My GP had also warned me that I had a fatty liver. I joined on a Thursday evening with a friend, the group were very friendly and supportive and I felt really motivated by the inspirational members in group, I knew I wasn't on my own and with the support from Hayley my consultant, I knew I could achieve my goals. I had lots of support from friends and family and I couldn't believe how much food you could eat on the Slimming World food optimising plan, unlimited amounts of free foods, it's a great feeling, feeling full and losing weight my favourite meal is Slimming World Chinese Curry. Slimming World has been a lifestyle change for me with great health benefits as I don't get out of breath, have less aches in my legs, feel more confident and my liver is now normal. I now go to the gym and my confidants has grown, I feel so much better in myself. I'm so happy, I've lost 7 stone 5 lb in 40 weeks. I hoping my story will help changes people's lives, I currently go to Thursday evening at Baptist Church, College Street, Burnham On Sea at 5.15pm.

Gardening Jobs for March
Light levels and daylight hours improve after the middle of March, but do not be too keen to sow outside unless you know what the soil temperature is. Some gardeners use a special soil thermometer to measure soil temperature hoping to find this at six degrees C or above. Another good indicator is to watch and wait for new weed seeds to germinate in the soil; this shows that conditions could be right for outside seed sowing. Seed packets will give good advice on when and how their contents can be sown, but remember this is only a guide. Continue sowing and growing-on plants that need inside protection - plants like tomatoes, aubergines, peppers and annual flowers. Remember ventilation is very important, particularly on sunny days. Prune out and remove dead, diseased and crossing branches on trees and shrubs. Roses can be pruned well back to just above an outward facing bud which is pointing in the
actual direction that you want the rose to grow. I also remove all new growth leaving the rose completely bare, this will leave the bush clean and will help prevent black spot and fresh, new shoots will soon regrow. Hydrangeas can be lightly pruned by cutting back to just above a healthy pair of buds. Topdress all your containers with fresh compost and start feeding plants at the end of the month. It is not too early to think about slug protection. For more tips why not join your local gardening group? The Burnham and District Horticultural Society meets at 7.30pm on the third Monday of each month (except December) at the Community Centre, Berrow Road. Annual subscription is still only ÂŁ5.50 per annum commencing 1st April. For information contact Jane on 01278 789661. Members are reminded that on Monday 20th March 2017 we have the Annual General Meeting. Tea and coffee will be provided free of charge for members this evening.

North Somerset Decorative and Fine Arts Society
Join us for interesting lectures on the arts from recognised experts. Lectures are held at the 37 Club, between Woolavington and Puriton, on the first Wednesday of the month. Meetings are at 2.15pm in the winter and 7pm from May to September. Our next two lectures:
Wednesday 1st March at 2.15pm Julian Halsby “Misia Sert”. 1872-1950 This is an extraordinary and fascinating story of a talented and beautiful woman who was muse and patron of the arts who has been described as ‘The Queen of Paris’ Wednesday 5th April at 2.15pm Stephen Richardson MA “Prinny and the excesses of regency period style”. The Regency period’s eponymous figurehead, the extravagant George Frederick, Prince of Wales, Prince Regent and ultimately King George IV (Known as Prinny), was in the vanguard of new developments in architecture, decorative style and art collecting. The lecture explores the many facets of Regency architecture, interior decoration and furnishing. Children’s Book Illustrations - John Ericson The February lecture of NSDFAS was given by John Ericson on Children’s Book Illustrations. The audience was transported back to their childhood and realised it is mainly the illustrations which are so evocative. Beginning with The Wind in the Willows which was first published with only a frontispiece and later many different editions were illustrated, perhaps the most famous were by Ernest Shepard and later Arthur Rackham, who illustrated all the great books of childhood of the time. We were reminded of Margaret Tempest and The Little Grey Rabbit books. Beatrix Potter, Anna Sewell, Rev. Awdry and the Thomas the Tank Engine series, Rupert, Poo, Biggles, Just William, and more recently the Mog series and of course the Ladybird books and Enid Blyton. Many of us left the lecture thinking we might hunt for some of the old favourites and rekindle our childhood.

Brean Play, one of the region’s biggest indoor play centres located at Brean Leisure Park, Somerset has raised £200 through its ‘Children’s Christmas Cheer’ charity campaign, and presented a cheque to Janey Hellmen, Corporate Partnerships Fundraiser at Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW). Anti-virus software - free versus paid
In light of recent clients with serious computer virus infections, I am going to discuss whether a paid antivirus is worth investing in, because I find that many people enquire about this topic. One of our most common call-outs is to troubleshoot the aftermath of a virus attack. No matter which software you pick, free antivirus solutions offer minimal protection. Often the glossy interface and apparent multiple features give a feeling of security, but unfortunately, in our experience these are woefully inadequate in protecting the computer. Whilst we appreciate that people may have used free anti-virus offerings in the past without issue, the last few months have proven time and time again that the free solutions often do not block some of the more modern threats, which have resulted in issues such as credit card details being stolen, bank accounts being accessed, files permanently encrypted and fake e-mails being sent to customer’s friends & family. Also, we tend to find that many free anti-virus solutions seem to drain the computer resources, causing slow running machines. To sum up, any paid anti-virus solution will be better than a free offering. Most free offerings are a clever way of getting a product onto a computer, only to expire without much warning and then offering an upgrade to a paid solution. The best anti-virus cover offers constant protection, scheduled deeps scans, regular automatic updates and blocks fake or fraudulent websites. We would also recommend a backup solution, so that in the event of data (such as photos) being compromised, these can be restored from a backup. It is also worth noting that Windows XP and Windows Vista computers are even more at risk due to being at the end or past their useful working life. Please do not hesitate to call us on 01278 787846, should you require assistance on the subject. We offer a fixed price service visit that will give suggestions to improve your computer security and performance, and if necessary can recommend an anti-virus solution. Neil Buzzard, Director, Computer Problem Solutions Ltd.

Excellent Service from Featherbed Homecare
Originally set up as Featherbed Nannies back in July 1986 by Sally Carpenter from her home in Featherbed Lane, Clutton, near Bristol the business changed to Featherbed Homecare a few years later. Since then the agency has built up an excellent reputation for providing reliable and affordable care for people living in their own homes. With an office in Bristol and the head office at Poole in Dorset, Sally is still actively involved with the running of the agency and is dedicated to helping people live in their own homes and retain their independence for as long as possible at a reasonable cost. She believes in keeping the agency a manageable size so that clients are given the best attention at all times and provided with only the most capable and compatible carers. The agency provides care throughout the South West region, helping clients with all types of illness, from live in 24 hour care, palliative care for the terminally ill, dementia and Alzheimer’s care along with respite when someone needs temporary help. There are many care providers to choose from but what makes Featherbed special is that the carers they introduce to their clients are well known to the company. Many carers have been with them for years, all are fully trained and DBS checked and provide excellent care and companionship. An agency manager will always arrange to visit a new client in their own home before any care package is arranged so as to be sure that only the most suitable and compatible carer will be placed. For further information or an agency brochure please contact 01934 757037 or Freephone 0800 1114885 www.featherbedhomecare.co.uk
