When do i Change my CompuTer? There are three main reasons to upgrade a computer – first is to stay secure, so valued data is not stolen by malicious infections or simply lost due to hardware failure. Second is to maintain usability and performance, so the user is not kept waiting when performing simple tasks. Third is to take advantage of the latest operating system features and hardware standards, such as faster usb speeds. If a computer is years old, and very slow, this alone is a reason to consider purchasing a new machine, as typically, upgrading individual components does not meaningfully tackle this issue. If unable to meet upgrade requirements for the latest operating system (Windows 10), this is another major concern, as by using old software, security may be weaker, increasing risk of infection. If experiencing random crashes, it is often a costly process to determine and resolve the problematic hardware or software, making it arguably more costeffective to simply upgrade to a new computer. If a machine is very noisy or makes ticking noises, then the hardware is potentially soon to fail, so it is important, for
the safety of valuable data, to upgrade soon to avoid data loss. If portability is a priority, one may choose to purchase a laptop, or a tablet. Laptops have more powerful hardware, so are better for heavy usage and multitasking, and allow the user to perform all the same tasks as on a desktop. However, tablets can be purchased for less, and are incredibly lightweight and easy to carry around. Laptops are superior for heavy work use, due to easier typing, and larger storage capacity. Tablets, with their portability, are more suited for checking social media, reading e-books, and getting the latest news on-the-go, and if used sensibly, have longer battery life. This decision comes down to preference, but tablets should not be considered a full desktop alternative due to their limited functionality. For help in upgrading your computer while retaining your files, please see our advert on this page or e-mail sales@e-cps.co.uk We are specialists at upgrading old computers to new, so are sure to be able to assist. fasT, effeCTive neW TreaTmenT for Tennis elboW Tennis elbow can be painful, wearing and long lasting. But a new yet well proven treatment, Shockwave therapy, can bring relatively fast and permanent relief – and it’s now available at a Glastonbury clinic. Tennis elbow is a tendon problem and, whilst it can develop in tennis players, for most people it occurs through more sudden overuse of an underused tendon by exercising at the gym, doing gardening or carrying heavy loads. Traditionally, treatment has included rest, physiotherapy and antiinflammatory drugs, with exercises for rehabilitation. Shockwave therapy is an attractive, faster alternative increasingly used by orthopaedic hospitals. It directs acoustic mechanical pulses through the tissues, stimulating the body to naturally heal. Somerset Shockwave offers patients a free assessment and recommends six treatments with its state of the art machine, each lasting 15-20 minutes, followed by a review.

mediTaTion Tuesdays: Meditation is an ancient form of prayer. It goes beyond words, images, thoughts and feelings. It leads us into stillness, silence and simplicity, allowing us to rest in the presence of God. Even in our modern busy lives this is possible. The aim of Meditation in the Christian tradition is to allow God's mysterious and silent presence that is within us all to become the reality which gives meaning, shape and purpose to everything we are and do. The World
Community for Christian Meditation is inspired by the vision of John Main a Benedictine monk who revived an ancient form of contemplative prayer and made it available to all. The Axbridge Meditation Group welcomes you to share the teaching and practice of Christian Meditation in silence and friendship. We are open to any denomination, or none. We meet just before 8pm each Tuesday evening in the Axbridge Church Room. Contact Loraine or Andy Goddard on 01934 732007 to find out more.

The benefiTs of loCal independenT denTal Care are more affordable Than you mighT Think Across the country many dental practices are now owned and operated by corporate groups. This can leave some patients feeling that they don’t receive the same personal service they used to enjoy. At Priory Dental in wells, we pride ourselves on being able to provide a personal and responsive service. Being a small independently owned practice gives us the ability to really get to know our patients. This means we know what you want and need from us, and you can be confident we can find the right solutions for you. The cost of this personal service is less than you might expect. PrioryPlan is only £8.49 per month. Unlike many plans, there is no joining fee and when you join in advance your initial dental examination is included. PrioryPlan allows you to be seen every six months for a comprehensive dental examination including a dental scaling and any x-rays that may be clinically required.
Any additional treatment is then offered based on our highly competitive fees. Another option is our more advanced plan known as PrioryPlan Complete. This includes the cost of most routine dental treatments and includes cover for dental emergencies at home or abroad. laurel and Wylde At Laurel and Wylde, we are really trying to make a change to the world of Estate Agency, generally we (Estate Agents) have such a bad rep, and I totally understand why, it’s a shame really, because most of the bad press is justified! However, with a little bit of client care, honesty, enthusiasm and proactivity, we believe that this can be changed, from our point of view, anyway, for good! One thing that amazes me is that other agents USP’s seem to be how long they have been around, how many offices they have, where their offices are and what newspapers they advertise in, all of these points couldn’t be further away from what makes a good estate agent, and how well they will perform selling your house, now I don’t want to give away all of our secrets, but we don’t advertise in any newspapers, we only have one office, we have only been around less than two years, and we have sold houses in Cheddar, Draycott, Mark, Bath, Bristol, Weston, Bridgwater, Radstock, Wells, Burnham and Highbridge!
Our real claim to fame is that we have agreed sales on 24 houses that other agents couldn’t sell, generally all within a couple of weeks, and our current average selling fee is 98.8% of asking price, which we believe is phenomenal! Nowadays the art of selling houses, we believe, is in the marketing, online, the bigger and better your listing, online, and the more places you have that listing, the more people will want to click on it, the more viewings you will get, the quicker we will sell it and the better price you will sell it for! This is working so well for us, and is probably why we have been able to sell so many houses the other agents have failed to, within a short space of time. If you are thinking of selling, or even just want an up to date market appraisal, why not give us a call and we can show you in more detail how we are doing what we are doing, so well. nick puddy – managing director laurel & Wylde see our back page advert
Cheddar Walks We all know that Cheddar is world-famous for its cheese and stunning gorge, but many visitors and often those of us who live here, are unaware of the rich diversity of landscape and walking country we have right on our doorsteps! Through the Walkers are Welcome scheme, Cheddar Walking promotes Cheddar as a walker-friendly destination offering a number of walking routes of varying grades, starting from the village centre. Walkers are Welcome is a non-profit making Community Interest Company - a nationwide initiative, launched in 2007 to encourage towns and villages to be ‘welcoming to walkers’. For all enquiries about walking in Cheddar, please email contact@cheddarwalking.org.uk We welcome feedback on the walks, so if you have done any of them, please drop us an email to tell us how it went and any good or bad points you found.

The absenCe of shepherds One of the most satisfying projects of the year has been this delightful little oil on panel by Cardiff born artist Charles Jones (1836–1902). Particularly admired for his meticulous portrayals of sheep, the painter became known fondly as “Sheep” Jones. Previously lost in a dark grey fog of over a century of fire soot and discoloured varnish, the most precisely rendered sheep emerged into brilliant daylight after cleaning. The similarity between Jones’ small flock and that of another mid-Victorian painting is compelling. In 1852, as the aging Duke of Wellington was voicing his concerns about the poor state of the English coastal defence against a possible French invasion, William Holman Hunt (1827–1910) settled down for a long summer diligently painting “Lost Sheep,” as it
was first entitled. Nestled above Covehurst Bay, on the sea cliffs near Hastings, the artist strove to represent the scene in accord with Ruskin’s exhortation to “go to Nature in all singleness of heart.” The painting, later exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1953 as “Our English Coasts,” drew critical acclaim and is now considered a quintessential Pre-Raphaelite landscape. As in the “The Hireling Shepherd,” these sheep are in trouble. In a beautiful, but perilous, location they seem oblivious to danger. Grazing unwisely on the promontory, some ensnared in dense thickets while others flop haplessly. A social allegory of wilful moral decline is emphasised in third re-titling of the painting as “Strayed Sheep” in 1855, for the Exposition Universelle. Moreover, here he evokes a Biblical message: “All we like sheep have gone astray” (Isiah 53:6). Jones’ sheep also stand uncomfortably near the precipice, though appearing more alert than Hunt’s insensible flock. Perhaps the most striking parallel is not the evident peril in the pictures, but the unease generated by what is absent. Not even a distracted hireling tends these sheep.

What our clients say about us...
“Laurel & Wylde were recommended to me by my solicitor and I’m so pleased they were. They were a lovely team, so professional, very helpful and always there for me anytime I needed them for anything. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking to buy or sell their property” Mrs Linda Vale “I instructed the team at Laurel & Wylde to sell my house in Burnham. They did a great job. My house was under offer in just under two weeks and I handed the keys to the new owners after only eight weeks. Genuinely nice people who aren’t your typical Estate Agents. They also found me my new home which I absolutely love. 5* service, highly recommend and wouldn’t dream of selling my house with anyone else” Emma Luckwell caLL uS nOw fOr a frEE, nO ObLigatiOn MarkEt appraiSaL
