Brown’s Gala with Journey Forward Announced for Sept.
BY TIM DAVIS Just recently announced by Matt Brown and his family, is the second annual Matt Brown Gala, to be held this year at the TD Garden on Sept 24, in partnership with the Boston Bruins Foundation and Journey Forward.
BY TIM DAVIS The New Norwood High School is set to open its doors to the class of 2012, with a state-ofthe-art 21st century facility that is deemed “remarkable,” by Norwood High School Principal George Usevich. With an extensive orientation
planned for all four classes and their parents, the Norwood community can finally embrace a school with a college prep level library, an 18,000 sq. foot gymnasium, an 800- seat theater with modern production capabilities, a synthetic-turf football field that rivals a small college and much more that includes college lecture
halls and labs, as well as a prominent band room. “To see what we have in this house, it is just remarkable,” said Usevich. “We are looking forward to opening up to a wonderful school year.” 21 different task forces and committees were involved in the
planning and financing of this model school program that incorporated the Town, Compass Project Management, and the Massachusetts State Building Association. “I think when we started this

The Gala will benefit both Norwood’s Brownie Points and Journey Forward, and allow participates to experience a video and activities that resemble a day in a life of Brown. It’s been a year and a half since Matt suffered a severe spinal cord injury while playing hockey for Norwood High, but today he is on the road of recovery. “Mentally I am better than ever,” said Matt Brown in an interview in his home over the summer, “ I go in there (Journey Forward) having a bum day, and I come out of there feeling better than ever.” Journey Forward is a unique spinal cord program that specializes in bettering the lives of those, like Matt, who have suffered a spinal cord injury through an intense exercise program.

Athletic Republic is Making Great Strides in Physical Training PJ Vande Rydt opened Athletic Republic a year and a half ago, not only to share his love and experience in sports and training, but because of his belief in the revolutionary, exercise programs the corporation has tested. The Athletic Republic on Vanderbilt Ave., in Norwood was the first branch to open its doors in Massachusetts and if any athlete has questions how to excel and reach their full potential, Athletic Republic has the answers. This facility is not a gym. It is a valuable resource for intense, sports-specific training for athletes of all levels. Vande Rydt's training facility holds the edge over traditional fitness centers with their state-of-theart, patented machines and over 2,000 proven protocols to elevate a competitor's athleticism to their individual potential. The programs are tailored specifically to each athlete and are adjusted to in or offseason training as well as physical development. Athletic Republic has the capability to train athletes in virtually every sport, including hockey, lacrosse, football, soccer, baseball and volleyball. The sessions focus on maximizing potential abilities in foot speed, agility, and power. The training is beneficial for all ages, from pee wees to youth, teenagers, college athletes and professionals.
"My goal is to take middle school athletes and make them a better athlete in four or five years," Vande Rydt said. At Athletic Republic, competitors have the opportunity to work out on advanced, patented equipment, such as with treadmills that reach 28 mph, maximizing to 40-degree inclines. Miami Dolphins player Brandon Marshall recently trained at the center and clocked 24 mph on the treadmill. The use of plyometrics is an important tool incorporated at this center where athletes are coached to challenge and train their muscles to produce fast, agile and powerful movements. In a typical eight-week protocol, a complete training session would include plyometrics and treadmills, along with strength and core training. "For example, for a hockey player, we can improve their stride efficiency, make them a faster skater and help for a faster recovery on ice," Vande Rydt said. "We also videotape on treadmills and can actually coach them to make them a better skater or runner." Athletic Republic currently employs three full-time trainers and five part-time trainers. Each of them has extensive athletic experience and has been thoroughly educated on Athletic Republic protocols and equipment. For pro-

King Richard's Faire Opens for its 30th Year! It's September, and seasoned New Englanders identify this month with spectacular scenery and shorter, cooler days not so far away. “You would be amazed, if one person is making progress we are all cheering them on, if I am making progress they are all cheering me on,” said Brown of Journey Forward. “We feed off each other.” It’s hard to imagine just how far Brown has come since his accident about a year and a half ago, when Matt’s family first walked into St. Catherine’s for a massive healing and witnessed over 900 people in the church. At that point all Brown could do was move his toes and fingers, and now he is participating in a full body exercise program to continue his mobility and growth in order to

project I don’t think anybody had the mindset that we were going to knock the old building down, “ said Usevich, “ that is a beautiful, beautiful building, it just wasn’t meeting our needs of a 21st century building.” The project reduced it’s overall cost by implementing the building plans from the newly built Whitman-Hanson High School, however the committee’s decided along with the project management company to incorporate and adapt the strengths of the Norwood High programs as well as replicate the distinguished look of the former high school into their new facility.
“This is a unique school, “ said Usevich, “ this is a model school built on someone’s else’s plan but we still have our imprint on it… it is still that New England school.” One of the most appealing exterior contrasts to those recently built high schools in Westwood, Newton, and Wellesley, is Norwood’s staple pillars and clock tower that captures the quaint picturesque New England School beauty, that so many new area schools seem to lack. “That is the part that we owe this community, “ said Usevich referring to the schools aesthetic beauty and advanced technological interior, “of how strong they felt about this school.” It certainly appears as if the new high school will be able to serve the community for as long as the previous school did, And the voters who came out in droves to support this project has a high school that they certainly will take pride in, as Usevich suggested, could not have been done without the town’s support. “I have to give the voters of the community all the credit, when we took that vote to approve this from town meetings to the actual town, 81% of the town voted yes.” Everyone from the town manager to senior citizens groups to finance committees worked on securing the most efficient and affordable measures in order to complete this project. The plan was
originally going to be a renovation project since many wanted to preserve the aesthetic beauty of the former building.

Out and About Door Dilemma Recently, the family and I were at our new favorite ice cream place, ”Cabot’s” in Newtonville (and being an ice cream aficionado the term “favorite” is not used loosely). Allison and I had just shared the best peanut butter sundae, I was in a fabulous mood, belly full, still surrounded by the smell of hot fudge. We were heading out the door and a family of five was heading in. I held the door open for the incoming family. At least two filed through when a family member finally grabbed the door. And you know what happened next? Nothing. That’s right absolutely nothing. Now, I could’ve continued on in my sugar high oblivion reminiscing with my daughter about our already missed sundae and how we wanted just one more bite. I could’ve let the door smash into mom or dad. But I didn’t. Instead, I paused, and took two seconds, maybe even a minute of my time to hold the door open. In return however, there was nothing. No quickly mumbled, “thanks”. No attempted manners or pleasantries. The utterance of a “thank you” was not whispered by mom, dad, any of the following children, even Grandma- coming slowly up the rear. I guess I was there personal door holder. Put mainly on planet to hold the door for them. Who knew that was part of my job? Apparently I didn’t get the memo. Five people and not even one

“thank you”. If you do the math, they had zero manners. I stated a loud, “You are welcome” and hastily left the ice cream parlor before they asked me to buff their Benz. This family is not alone in the ungrateful zone. In an age where the majority of doors in stores and malls are automated, there are still the manual doors. Doors that need to be pushed open. And in my opinion, if someone is behind you that same door, even if you have to use a bit of force- should be held. I do think that door holding is everyone’s duty. It is the right thing to do. The right thing in turn is a simple “Thank you.” The words don’t have to be heartfelt. They don’t have to be with a smile. And they don’t have to be fancy; unless your native tongue is French then “Merci beaucoup” is even more appreciated by me. You don’t even have to use both words if your time is limited. A mere one word, “Thanks” is enough. The “Thanks” can be hasty as we are all busy. It can be through gritted teeth-who knows maybe mom just got finished yelling at dad for going too fast in the car ride over. It can be mumbled, stuttered, and even quick. But it should be there.

And if someone comes along and takes time out to open and hold the door for the lady with the cappuccino, carriage, and now wailing child let’s hope, no matter how harried she may be between sips off caffeine and screams of child, she can mumble a mere, “Thanks” in his or her general direction.

‘Kevin’s Cause’ Benefits Fight Against Rare Cancer Event raises awareness and funds days before passing BY WILLIAM O’CONNOR
On Friday August 12, the ”Kevin’s Cause” fundraiser was held at the Sheraton Hotel in Norwood. The beneficiary was Kevin Morrison, a 21-year-old lifelong resident of Norwood, grew up as a prominent athlete in town, excelling in youth baseball, as well as being the captain of the football and hockey teams at Norwood High.
“We want to get the word out there that this young man needs help,” said family friend and volunteer Mike Thornton, “Lets help him anyway we can, and honor this battle he has waged courageously since last winter.”
When the event started, the Tiffany Ballroom at the Sheraton Hotel was already packed with nearly 1,000 tickets sold for the event. “It’s a tight town. People all talk to each other when it comes to something serious. It’s about what we can do to help. It makes me proud to live in a place where people do that,” said Mr. Starr.
In February of this year Kevin was diagnosed, and was fighting peritoneal mesothelioma. This rare form of cancer requires an alternative treatment outside the Boston area, with the proceeds from the fundraiser helping Kevin and his family with this battle.
“This turnout is remarkable. With the way the economy is and the amount of people that showed up, shows how compassionate people in Norwood are. We hope this kind of energy can get down to Kevin and boost him up,” said family friend and volunteer Brendan Gearty.
Unfortunately, Kevin passed shortly after the event on August 20th. His passing certainly does not diminish the spirit and support that was shared at the event, in support of Kevin’s fight. The fundraiser was organized within a twoweek period, with the two driving forces being the Norwood Fire Department and Hughes Oil Company, both of which Kevin’s father, Phil, works for. When asked about what it was like putting the event together, family friend and ex co-worker Robert Starr said “ We hit the ground running, I started e-mailing everyone I knew to get the word out, and before I knew it I got a call from the Fire Department saying we want to do something, let’s all get together.” The atmosphere in the air at the fundraiser was full of warmth and hope as hours before the event started there were dozens of volunteers that came out in support. There was a sea of green “Kevin’s Cause” shirts all taking time out of their Friday afternoon to help set up for the event.

Many people shared stories about Kevin as they supported the cause. An old hockey teammate, Matthew Skuncik, shared fond memories from the ice, “ He was there to have a good time and be a good kid.” “A talented kid with a scrappy determination,” said Mike Thornton, whose sons played hockey with Kevin, “A great kid, a great family and that’s what this is all about.“ Devoted son of Phillip V. and Paula M. Clothing and accessories in good condition, as well as kitchenware, find good use at the Women’s Community Committee Thrift Shop in South Norwood. The proceeds from the shop go to charitable causes. There is a Salvation Army store in Norwood as well, and items dropped off there will be sold cheaply, the profit to be used for charitable work. The Norwood Food Pantry can always use unopened cans and jars of food, cereal, and pasta. A word of caution: food past its expiration date is no more wholesome for the needy than it is for you. When donating, keep in mind that badly damaged, soiled, or unworkable items are as useless to others as they are to you. While various collection bins are placed about the town, first consider making your donation to one of our local organizations, to help people in our own community.

Norwood Hospital 9th Annual Road Race & Walk Saturday, September 17th Cash Awards; Plus Children’s Fun Runs Bring family and friends for a healthy, fun start to the day at Norwood Hospital’s 9th Annual 4Mile Road Race and Walk, Saturday, September 17, 2011. The race kicks off Norwood Day and will take place rain or shine.
for children up to age 6, at 8:30 am, and a race around the Bond Street loop for kids ages 7-12, starting at 8:45 a.m. Children must register the day of the race. All kids who enter the children’s races will receive t-shirts and medals.
Registration is 7:00 - 8:30 am at the front of the hospital, 800 Washington Street, Norwood. The adult race starts at 9:00 am and runs over a fun, residential course. The first 150 adult entrants will receive long-sleeve t-shirts and gift bags.
Awards Ceremony Cash awards will be offered to the top three male and female finishers overall. Medals will be presented to the top three males and females in several age categories. Music and refreshments provided. The race is USATF sanctioned.
Adult entry fee is $25 before September 9 and $30 after. Running club entry fee is $20 per runner by September 9, with a minimum of 5 runners registered. In just a few weeks, downtown Norwood will be transformed into a community festival filled with live, local entertainment, games, sporting events, kiddie rides, crafters, food, sidewalk sales, business groups and town department displays. The celebrations will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, September 17, with the Caritas Norwood Hospital 5k Road Race. At 10:30 a.m., a parade kicks off the spectacular event, starting at the Morrill Memorial Library and down Washington St. with the marching band and fall sports teams from Norwood High School (NHS) proudly entertaining spectators and strutting their school colors. The parade will end at the town gazebo where the NHS Spirit Club will identify the King and Queen of the Court and the Ann Lydon Volunteer of the Year Award will be presented. Immediately after the parade, Washington Street in downtown Norwood will be open to residents to visit approximately 200 booths from local merchants, community organizations, crafters and vendors. A stage at the Washington/Walpole intersection by the post office will stand as an periphery anchor with local bands
and dance groups performing throughout the day while the town gazebo lawn will serve as the second anchor with the food tent, sports events, trolley rides and games. Norwood Day is a true endorsement for the shared respect and commitment of its residential and business communities. To celebrate the strength of its collective loyalties, local restaurants will be offering samples of its diverse menus as a thank you for the continued patronage that has made Norwood the restaurant capital of the area. Trolleys will also transport riders to noteworthy locations throughout town, including the police and fire stations, the airport, Norwood High School and the Norwood Central MBTA station The entire communal party will run from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and for just $3 for a Norwood Day button ($4 the day of the event), entrance and participation is free to all events. Buttons can be purchased at Town Hall, the Civic Center, Senior Center, Morrill Memorial Library and some local merchants. "The whole theory behind it is that you buy a button for three dollars and you get into all these things for free," Recreation Directory Gerry Miller said. "We make
it as inexpensive as possible and it works out well." Local and business sponsors contributed greatly to the abundance of food and entertainment for Norwood Day. TGI Fridays has been a donor for approximately seven years and have given $15,000 for the Friday night fireworks display. The second largest sponsor, Norwood Bank, donated funds for the kiddie rides, Comcast is responsible for the trolley tours, Lustra Cleaners is proving the food tent, Dedham Savings Bank is offering pony rides, Gillooly Funeral Home is backing the rock climbing wall, UTI is subsidizing Big Daddy's Racing, Eye Care Specialists is backing the game van and Republic Pipe is paying for the portapotties. At press time, sponsors were still coming forward to contribute to the residential and town tribute. According to Miller, last year's event attracted approximately 15,000 residents. Norwood Day has become a valuable opportunity for local organizations and merchants to meet their neighbors and celebrate the spirit of the town's communal and philanthropic ideas and values. 2011 Norwood TONY Award Recipient: Lisa Bartucca The Norwood TONY (Ten Outstanding Norwood Youths) Awards were initiated over 40 years ago to recognize exceptional Norwood youths for their voluntary contribution to the community. Through anonymous reviews of the student's volunteer record and a 300-word essay, the Norwood Masons, who acquired the program 16 years ago, named the 2011 TONY Award winners at a banquet held January 24. The award includes a citation and plaque from the governor, a $1,000 savings bond and a gift card from Perk's coffeehouse. Two supplementary awards also included an additional $500 savings bond. Local Town Pages is also recognizing these admiral young adults with a profile of each student each month in our newspaper. Norwood High School graduated senior, Lisa Bartucca, is the seventh student profile in our TONY Award series. Seventeen year-old Lisa Bartucca has always had a passion for science, and more specifically, medicine. Science was, in fact, one of her favorite subjects in school. Her interests in the medical field, however, surfaced long before she began her education. "For as long as I can remember, I had a doctor's bag I wouldn't let go of, I may still have it," Bartucca said. "I have wanted to be a doctor for a while." Although 14 might be considered

Norwood Fall Recycling Day The Norwood Fall Recycling Day will be Saturday, September 24, 8-11 a.m., at the composting facility off Winter St. Norwood residents can do a final sweep of their garages, basements and sheds this fall and drop off items such as batteries, kitchen and laundry appliances, electronics, fluorescent light bulbs, mercury thermometers and scrap metals for safe disposal. There are nominal fees for some items, such as $10 for freon appliances, $5 for microwaves, $10 for televisions and monitors and $5 for propane tanks. New this year, the town is offering document shredding through Doc Shredding who will be on site. The charge is $5 for a copy paper sized box. The Massachusetts "I'm Animal Friendly" license plate tells your community that you care about animals! Other preventive vaccines are also recommended for your pet on an annual basis. The law requires that animals be vaccinated as early as 12 weeks against rabies and re-vaccinated within the first year of the initial vaccine. Subsequent 3 year vaccines can be administered thereafter. Whether your pet is indoor or outdoor it is required to be rabies vaccinated. It is believed by many that if their cat is indoor only, which we recommend all to be, they do not need to be vaccinated. They do. If an unvaccinated cat bites or even scratches a person or other animal and an animal control officer or veterinarian are involved, an unvaccinated animal can and will be quarantined. This could lead to undue stress on the animal and family. Since 6 months of quarantine is required, irresponsible pet owners decide to relinquish their pet. When relinquished to an animal control officer or “open admission” shelters it almost always results in euthanasia. You need to protect your pet from
this preventive cause of death. Humans must make this responsible decision for their pet; they rely on us for this. Just do it!

O’Donnell, and fellow Registers of the Massachusetts Register of Deeds Association meet with Attorney General Martha Coakley Norfolk County Register of Deeds, William P. O’Donnell, Chair of the Legislative Committee for the MA Register of Deeds Association and at the request of the MA Register of Deeds Association President, Register Barry Amaral of the Bristol County Northern District Registry of Deeds wrote to Attorney General Coakley requesting a meeting to discuss a number of real estate issues. Register O’Donnell and his colleagues met with Attorney General Coakley and expressed their concerns regarding a number of issues affecting the Commonwealth’s Registries of Deeds. Much of the discussion was concerning issues surrounding the recording practices of Mortgage Electronic Registration Systems, Inc. (MERS) at the Registries in Massachusetts and the use of robosigners signing documents on behalf of large lending institutions. The Registers also inquired about the impact of the Attorney’s Gen-
eral’s investigation on the ongoing federal-state negotiations with the large banks. The Attorney General made clear that Massachusetts will not sign on to any global agreement with the banks if it includes a comprehensive liability release regarding securitization and the MERS conduct. “Our meeting with the Attorney General and her staff was most productive and much appreciated”, said Register O’Donnell. Register O’Donnell further stated, “The MA Register of Deeds Association will continue our dialogue with the Attorney General and her staff regarding these very serious real estate matters. The rights of the homeowners of this state and the due diligence of the Registries of Deeds in providing secure and accurate land records are of paramount importance and we look forward to cooperating and working with the Attorney General”. Eleven Ways to Help Yourself Stay Sane in a Crazy Market Keeping your cool can be hard to do when the market goes on one of its periodic roller-coaster rides. It's useful to have strategies in place that prepare you both financially and psychologically to handle market volatility. Here are 11 ways to help keep yourself from making hasty decisions that could have a long-term impact on your ability to achieve your financial goals. 1. Have a game plan Having predetermined guidelines that recognize the potential for turbulent times can help prevent emotion from dictating your decisions. For example, you might take a core-and-satellite approach, combining the use of buy-and-hold principles for the bulk of your portfolio with tactical investing based on a shorter-term market outlook. You also can use diversification to try to offset the risks of certain holdings with those of others. Diversification may not ensure a profit or guarantee against a loss, but it can help you understand and balance your risk in advance. And if you're an active investor, a trading discipline can help you stick to a long-term strategy. For example, you might determine in advance that you will take profits when a
security or index rises by a certain percentage, and buy when it has fallen by a set percentage. 2. Know what you own and why you own it When the market goes off the tracks, knowing why you originally made a specific investment can help you evaluate whether your reasons still hold, regardless of what the overall market is doing. Understanding how a specific holding fits in your portfolio also can help you consider whether a lower price might actually represent a buying opportunity. And if you don't understand why a security is in your portfolio, find out. That knowledge can be particularly important when the market goes south, especially if you're considering replacing your current holding with another investment. 3. Remember that everything's relative Most of the variance in the returns of different portfolios can generally be attributed to their asset allocations. If you've got a well-diversified portfolio that includes multiple asset classes, it could be useful to compare its

overall performance to relevant benchmarks. If you find that your investments are performing in line with those benchmarks, that realization might help you feel better about your overall strategy. Even a diversified portfolio is no guarantee that you won't suffer losses, of course. But diversification means that just because the S&P 500 might have dropped 10% or 20% doesn't necessarily mean your overall portfolio is down by the same amount. 4. Tell yourself that this too shall pass The financial markets are historically cyclical. Even if you wish you had sold at what turned out to be a market peak, or regret having sat out a buying opportunity, you may well get another chance at some point. Even if you're considering changes, a volatile market can be an inopportune time to turn your portfolio inside out. A wellthought-out asset allocation is still the basis of good investment planning. 5. Be willing to learn from your mistakes Anyone can look good during bull markets; smart investors are produced by the inevitable rough patches. Even the best aren't right all the time. If an earlier choice now seems rash, sometimes the best strategy is to take a tax loss, learn from the experience, and apply the lesson to future decisions. Expert help can prepare you and your portfolio to both weather and take advantage of the market's ups and downs. 6. Consider playing defense During volatile periods in the stock market, many investors reexamine their allocation to such defensive sectors as consumer staples or utilities (though like all stocks, those sectors involve their own risks, and are not necessarily im-
mune from overall market movements). Dividends also can help cushion the impact of price swings. According to Standard and Poor's, dividend income has represented roughly one-third of the monthly total return on the S&P 500 since 1926, ranging from a high of 53% during the 1940s to a low of 14% in the 1990s, when investors focused on growth. 7. Stay on course by continuing to save Even if the value of your holdings fluctuates, regularly adding to an account designed for a longterm goal may cushion the emotional impact of market swings. If losses are offset even in part by new savings, your bottom-line number might not be quite so discouraging. If you're using dollarcost averaging--investing a specific amount regularly regardless of fluctuating price levels--you may be getting a bargain by buying when prices are down. However, dollar-cost averaging can't guarantee a profit or protect against a loss. Also, consider your ability to continue purchases through market slumps; systematic investing doesn't work if you stop when prices are down. 8. Use cash to help manage your mindset Cash can be the financial equivalent of taking deep breaths to relax. It can enhance your ability to make thoughtful decisions instead of impulsive ones. If you've established an appropriate asset allocation, you should have resources on hand to prevent having to sell stocks to meet ordinary expenses or, if you've used leverage, a margin call. Look in the rear-view mirror If you're investing long-term, sometimes it helps to take a look back and see how far you've come. If your portfolio is down this year, it can be easy to forget any progress you may already have made over the years. Though past performance is no guarantee of future returns, of course, the stock market's long-term direction has historically been up. With stocks, it's important to remember that having an investing strategy is only half the battle; the other half is being able to stick to it. Even if you're able to avoid losses by being out of the market, will you know when to get back in? If patience has helped you build a nest egg, it just might be useful now, too. 11. Take it easy If you feel you need to make changes in your portfolio, there are ways to do so short of a total makeover. You could test the waters by redirecting a small percentage of one asset class into another. You could put any new money into investments you feel are well-positioned for the future but leave the rest as is. You could set a stop-loss order to prevent an investment from falling below a certain level, or have an informal threshold below which you will not allow an investment to fall before selling. Even if you need or want to adjust your portfolio during a period of turmoil, those changes can--and probably should--happen in gradual steps. Social Security Benefits Will Be Paid on Time Michael J. Astrue, Commissioner of Social Security, announced today that Social Security payments for August 3rd will be made on time and as scheduled. Payments for August 10th, 17th, and 24th also will be made as scheduled. “I am happy to announce there will be no delay in the payment of August Social Security benefits,” Commissioner Astrue said, “which should be a relief to those people who were concerned about
their benefits. I’m pleased the President and Congress were able to come together in a bipartisan fashion to avoid an interruption in payments.” People still receiving paper checks from Social Security should consider signing up for Direct Deposit, the secure and convenient way to receive Social Security payments. Effective August 15, 2011, the Norwood Social Security office will be open to the public Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. – a reduction of 30 minutes each weekday. While agency employees will continue to work their regular hours, this shorter public window will allow them to complete faceto-face service with the visiting
public without incurring the cost of overtime. Congress provided Social Security with nearly $1 billion less than the President requested for the budget this fiscal year, which makes it impossible for the agency to provide the amount of overtime needed to handle service to the public as we have in the past. Most Social Security services do
not require a visit to an office. For example, anyone wishing to apply for benefits, sign up for direct deposit, replace a Medicare card, obtain a proof of income letter or inform us of a change of address or telephone number may do so at www.socialsecurity.gov or by dialing our toll-free number, 1-800772-1213. Norwood Retired Men's Club The Norwood Retired Men’s Club will be in its 27th season on Tuesday, September 13, when it opens up after the summer break. The Club meets at the Norwood Elks every second Tuesday of the month, except July and August, at 10:00 am. They have coffee and donuts available before the meeting. All are welcome and there is plenty of parking. You don’t have to be a Norwood resident but you must be 60 or older and be retired or semi retired. The dues are $10.00 yearly and there is no initiation or initiation fee. Just walk in and say “Hello.”
The Club has two breakfast meetings a year and a Valentines Luncheon Dance in February. They have two trips a year, one in the summer and one in the winter. The men have a golf league, horseshoe league and a newly formed bocce league. Golf is played at the Norwood Country Club on Thursday mornings with scheduled tee times. Horseshoes are played at the Elks pits on Tuesday mornings at 8:30 am. The new Bocce league plays at the Senior Center courts on Wednesdays at 9:30 am. Every league would welcome new members.

The Purr-fect Cat Shelter will hold the 13th Annual PCS PetWalk (rain or shine) Sunday, Sept. 18, from 10am to 3pm at the Norfolk County Agricultural High School, Route 1A, in Walpole.
