THE AURUM AT DAVID MEADE’S The experience of working with Hannaways has been incredible. They understood exactly what I wanted to achieve in this kitchen, they understood how important it was to work with not only the designer, the builder, and all of the other suppliers. What struck me about the relationship with Hannaways was every single time we had a meeting or a consultation or the design was revised, it was always improved. It felt like actually I was working alongside them to design the kitchen. It didn’t feel like I was ordering one. It felt like we were really co creating one together. Every single item in this kitchen has been custom made from the ground up by the team at Hannaways in a workshop in Northern Ireland that send and sell their expertise all across the world. The idea that every part of this room has been hand crafted by people who have dedicated their life to it is a real if I just found that giving it a freshen up, it’s designed in such a way that the treat for me. accessories bring that personality. So I know it sounds really cliche to say that by just tinkering with some small items a kitchen is the heart of the home, but around the room, it gives it a whole new I really do believe that. I believe this is feel and a whole new sense of design. where people hang out, where they celebrate, where they talk, listen, party, One of the things that separates and I think that’s what Hannaways have Hannaways from everyone else in this managed to achieve in this kitchen. It’s space, is they don’t just stick a kitchen big, and it’s bright, and it’s airy, but it also into a house. They have a world class inhas a personality and a soul. And they house design team that work, not just on were really clever in how they advised the design of the space in place, but the me to pick the colors, because the soft furnishings, the accessories, even all pallette is so adaptable that whether of the appliances. It’s a one stop shop it’s Christmas decorations, or a birthday for an extraordinary experience that just celebration, or even in a couple of years means you don’t have 12 suppliers that
you need to deal with. It is all done in one roof. If I was to describe Hannaways and the team’s approach to their work in three words, I would say bespoke, unique and craftsmanship. And ultimately it’s that craftsmanship that shines through. Working with Hannaways has allowed me to totally re-imagine what a kitchen can be. Their advice, their guidance, their support, their ability to listen, but also to challenge what I wanted to achieve in the kitchen as well. I cannot recommend Hannaways enough, and frankly, I couldn’t imagine working with anyone else.

PROTECT YOUR SKIN AND LOOK AFTER YOURSELF
THE EXPERTS AT YOUNIQUE AESTHETICS ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO WELCOMING YOU BACK AS SOON AS THEY CAN – UNTIL THEN, HERE’S SOME TIPS FOR CARING FOR YOUR SKIN AT HOME. Hi everyone,
mean you don’t cleanse!
I hope you are keeping safe and well.
Next up is your antioxidant. Your protection from all those free radicals that cause premature ageing damage to the collagen and elastin scaffold that keeps your dermis bouncy and healthy. There are a few types of antioxidant, but Vitamin C ( Lascorbic acid) would be the most commonly known.
Our clinic, like most non-essential workplaces is closed, but we have not abandoned you. Our clinic treats so many different skin issues and concerns, so be assured, though we are not physically present to help you, we are here virtually through all our social media platforms. I, and our wonderful team of therapists have received so many messages from you all, mainly asking advice on how best to care for their skin at home. We totally appreciate that a lot of you have invested a lot of money into getting your skin to where it is now, so allow me to help you protect your investment. Like you all I’m struggling to deal with all the uncertainty, fear and anxiety that is engulfing our wee world. Negative emotions can trigger and worsen a wide range of skin conditions and stress can trigger premature ageing.... and we don’t want that! So here are a few ways of protecting your skin while you are at home and I’ll keep it simple. Regardless of your skin type, cleansing properly is vital. Purifying the skin of dirt, make up and dead skin cells will help to prevent pore congestion as well as imperfections and break outs. It also prepares the skin to absorb products more efficiently, so it is worth spending some time on this both morning and evening. I know most of us are social distancing at the minute, and make up isn’t b e i n g worn as much, but that doesn’t
So, we have cleansed, applied our antioxidant and now it’s time for sunscreen, and for any aesthetician, is the most important of all. Ensure your SPF is a broad spectrum and where possible, a mineral filter. You need to protect from both the ageing and the burning rays and by applying every day, will keep the wrinkles away. Hyaluronic acid and moisturisers will help us get the skins moisture levels to a healthy level. Some of you have told me that you weren’t aware of the importance of skin hydration. Always ensure your skin is exfoliated, resulting in the skin absorbing, and your moisturiser working to the best of its ability when applied. Night time retinol (Vit A) will help minimise the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, improve your complexion and smooth the appearance of skin texture with minimal irritation. Our own Younique Clinical ‘Recover’ is also a firm favourite night time product. If you have a mask at home, apply once or twice a week. A mask always makes me feel pampered, a real treat and let’s face it, we all need that right now. So that is a small list of home skin care essentials in times of crisis. Until we reopen the clinic we are offering, where possible, a free postage service to those of you who are running low on your products. Private

message us your order and we will post it or deliver it to you when we can. Please God you and your family are keeping well, and that this crisis will soon end, and we can return to our beloved clinic. Back to treatments and back to welcoming all our patients from near and far. Be assured though, that we are not lying at home watching Netflix and playing board games (well, not all the time!) Our wonderful medical staff have offered their services on the front line of our hospitals and for that we are so proud. We remember that although they are experts in facial aesthetics, they are all highly trained in saving lives. We, the therapists, are working away to educate ourselves further and developing new protocols for our treatments, to ensure that once all is well and the world is safe, we can open or doors again to offer you the highest quality aesthetic and skin care treatments. Yes, even better than before. Until then, Both myself and my colleagues will become your virtual skincare therapists, we will be offering free online consultations covering all skincare & product advice. So all is not lost you can still have healthy beautiful skin. In the mean time stay safe and think of all our amazing key workers, who are doing a fantastic job looking after our country. Lots of love,

MEABH’S HITTING ALL THE RIGHT NOTES First she joined Cancer Focus NI as a placement art therapist. Now she’s heading up the charity’s Sing For Life choir. South Belfast’s Meabh Meir talks to MAUREEN COLEMAN about the power of music and art.
W
orking with people affected by cancer through the power of art therapy was a hugely rewarding experience for south Belfast woman Meabh Meir. The art therapy masters student joined Cancer Focus Northern Ireland in 2018 to work alongside the charity’s art therapist Joanne Boal for a year.
Her time with the charity had such a lasting impact on Meabh that when a position came up as its choir coordinator, she decided to apply. A singer herself, who performs with an all-girl trad group Landless, she knew all too well about how music – as well as art – can heal. Meabh was successful in her application and now oversees Cancer Focus’ 150-strong choir, while still studying art therapy. Being able to use her own gifts to help others is something which she considers a blessing, as is being back in the charity which she loved working for.

she is seeing the huge, beneficial impact
Meabh was deeply touched by the transformations she witnessed in those she was working with; people who were so grief stricken they were unable to find the words to describe their pain. Through the medium of art, they were able to express their emotions visually and that was a huge release – and relief – in their struggle to communicate. Being a singer in a group, Meabh was also interested in sound therapy and through a woman called Tessa Greer, she gained a foundation certificate in delivering sound therapy too. It differs from music therapy and is strongly influenced by Eastern culture, combining Tibetan singing, bowls, gongs and drums with participants’ own voices. There’s a strong emphasis on breathing and meditation and those involved can feel vibrations in their bodies. The overall result is a relaxing, sometimes emotional, experience and when Tessa delivered a session at Corrymeela for Cancer Focus, the feedback was extremely positive. Given her own gift for singing and her interest in helping those in need, the role of coordinator with Cancer Focus’ Sing For Life choir was an opportunity Meabh couldn’t pass by. And once again,
that singing together in a group has on people’s physical and mental well-being. “The first time I went along to hear the choir sing back in January was so unbelievably moving,” she says. “There were 80 people in the room and their voices filled it. I’m not ashamed to say that I cried. And if I felt it so strongly, I can only imagine the impact it must have on those in the choir. ƒ Meabh Meir

“EXERCISE AND POSITIVE THINKING”
Join Local Women columnist and fitness blogger Hollie Campbell for some exercise in your own living room! No gym? No problem. Workout at home! My boyfriend and I have been doing videos of exercises over on our Instagram pages daily to keep our fitness levels up. (Viliusv_pt) (hollie_campbell) Join in when you can. Exercise is obviously good for our physical appearance but for our mental health it is even more beneficial. We release endorphins that instantly improve our mood and mindset. Circumstances have changed dramatically for many of us and we have had to adapt to home workouts. It’s hard to get motivated and keep interested, but stick on the videos, put your gym gear on and let’s all do it together. Grab your boyfriend, sister, mother etc and make it into a challenge. I find when we are exercising, we get into a good routine with foods too, and we all know they go side by side for results. We will be doing upper body, lower body and ab workouts every second day and we will change it up as much as possible - so come along and join us over on Instagram and let’s get fit for summer. The weather is getting better and my dog is enjoying these extra walks. I’m looking forward to summer, brighter evenings and longer days. I have also taken a big interest in the garden lately and shocked myself by how much I’m enjoying it. All these little things are great for our overall health, take up a new interest, try something different like I have done with my gardening. Feel free to message me with any questions also, I’m happy to get back to you. Take care,

#Never Have Time
T
Not so long ago we thought, I “never have time” to do this or that. Well, now we have an abundance of time – Local Women columnist Lesley McGarrity gives you some ideas about what to do with yours!
he isolation period is well underway for many of us, so I wonder what you are all going to do? Now is the time to do the things we #neverhavetime to do. I bet you have already started working on this. Have you already mastered your athome wardrobe, figured out your working from home routines? Worked out how to tolerate your partner 24-7? Have you started on the tinned fruit yet? The world is definitely an uncertain place at the minute, but the one thing that is certain is that we have a lot more time on our hands, than we did before. Here is one thing I should have made time-to-do before going into isolation! Take my half-filled, coffee cup out of the car! The smell that smacked me in the face, when I opened the car door to get my laptop out, was enough to finish the whole street off. I certainly think the furry lump growing inside the cup would have given Covid – 19 a good fight for its money!
meant to be on a quick strict, poop only walk! Paddington is that bored now he has even started taking selfies. What’s certain is we have no power over the position, we are globally finding ourselves in at the minute. All we know is that it changes minute by minute, day by day and that the only safe thing to do is follow and listen to the government and healthcare officials. Look after one another and most importantly! #stayathome! So, to pass the time away I have decided to give a list of things you never get time to ordinarily do (you’re welcome!) So, get stuck in and tag the magazine in your pics, so I can see what you are all up to. I am going to pick my top five funniest pics for next month’s magazine.
Another thing that is certain is that my pup Paddington is going to end up with dermatitis of the paws, because he insists on mooching for sticks, in the dirtiest of places when he is

Helping Our Baby To Hear Leanne Gillespie from Galbally is on a mission to raise awareness of hearing loss in children after her baby girl was born profoundly deaf.
Proud parents Leanne and Christopher Gillespie with baby Ella-May
BY MAUREEN COLEMAN
A
t just 18 months old, little EllaMay Gillespie is just starting out on a new journey into the hearing world. The gorgeous baby girl was born profoundly deaf, much to the shock of her mum and dad, Leanne and Christopher Gillespie, who hail from Galbally, outside Dungannon. In January this year, Ella-May underwent four hours of surgery to have cochlear implants in both ears, an electronic device that will provide her with a sense of sound. Although not a cure for deafness, it is hoped the device will help Ella-May hear better and detect environmental sounds. Seeing her baby react for the first time when Leanne called her name is a moment the proud mum will treasure forever. But she is aware that this is just the beginning of the journey for her daughter – the couple’s first child - and that it’s very much a waiting game to see how she gets on. Leanne now wants to share Ella-May’s story in a bid to raise awareness around baby deafness and to help other young parents who find themselves in the same situation. “When Ella-May was born she had a hearing screening done the very same 16 | Local Women | News Feature 2

day, which she unfortunately failed,” says Leanne. “We were told it might be a case of fluid in the ear, but I just knew straight away she was deaf. I don’t know why, it was just gut instinct, but I knew in my heart what further tests would reveal. “We were sent to the audiology department in Craigavon Hospital where more tests were carried out on Ella-May’s hearing. The doctor told us then she was profoundly deaf. “Although I’d prepared myself for the worst outcome, it still came as a huge shock to me and my husband. In the run up to that appointment, she wasn’t responding to any sounds at home. When they said she was deaf in both ears, we were devastated. In that moment, it felt like the end of the world to us both.” Leanne says doctors weren’t able to tell them what had caused Ella-May’s deafness, although both she and Christopher are currently awaiting genetic testing. With no history of deafness in either her own or her husband’s families, the pair hadn’t given it a second thought before she was born. “It’s just not something, as new parents, we’d considered. We had absolutely no idea about hearing loss and what the future would hold for our little girl. It was
worrying at the time.” The same day as the diagnosis, Ella-May was fitted with tiny hearing aids in an attempt to stimulate the nerves in her ears and she was then referred to a specialist at the Beech Hall Centre in west Belfast. There, the consultant mooted the idea of Ella-May having cochlear implants. Leanne and Christopher discussed this together and agreed to press ahead with the surgery, if it meant it gave their little girl a chance of hearing. Ella-May was placed on a waiting list and eventually, at just 16 months old, was brought back to Belfast for surgery at the City Hospital. Her parents had mixed emotions as the operation got underway. “It was very nerve wrecking,” says Leanne. “We were both excited and nervous at the same time. “Ella-May was out for four hours, two hours for each ear. When she came round from the anaesthetic, she was a wee bit disorientated and it took her a few days to really come round.” It’s a slow process following cochlear implants, Leanne explains. The implants were switched on in February and gradually Ella-May began to respond. Over the next few months, medics will continue
to tune them to get them just right. “We’ve been told it’s like processing a computer,” says Leanne. “Her wee brain needs to be taught how to listen. The words that we say are translated into digital information that her brain can read. “She has been responding to noises, but we probably won’t see a big difference for months. She has reacted to loud noises in the home and the first time she looked round when I called out her name, I was over the moon.” As part of the implant is visibly attached to Ella-May’s head, Leanne says she has noticed people staring when they go out. It doesn’t particularly bother her, she says, but she wishes she could explain to people why her daughter is wearing an external device made up of a microphone, a speech processor and a transmitting coil. “It doesn’t annoy me when I see people looking at her, but I’d like deafness to be normalised by society,” Leanne says. “When Ella-May was diagnosed, we began to hear about more and more kids being deaf. I knew nothing about cochlear

school when she’s at the appropriate age and will have the implants for the rest of her life. Leanne says she’s no longer overly anxious about her daughter’s future. “The first panic I had when she was diagnosed was whether or not she’d be able to go to mainstream school, but we’ve been told she will,” she says. “She’s doing really well now. She’s implants before. THE COURAGE OF CIARA When she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at the age of 22, Ciara McChrystal’s world fell apart. But then she made up her mind it wasn’t going to beat her, as she tells Local Women’s MAUREEN COLEMAN.
A
t 25 years of age Ciara McChrystal, from Ballyarnett, has a busy schedule that would put many people to shame.
As well as running her own Slimming World group every Thursday, Ciara is a venture coordinator for the scouts, is studying for a master’s degree and enjoys several sports-related pursuits including horse riding and basketball. But what makes Ciara’s story all the more inspirational is that she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis three years ago, which, at the time, turned her world upside down. After absorbing the news of the shock diagnosis, Ciara made a few necessary changes to her life to help her cope with the condition and even when it deteriorated to the point that she required a wheelchair, she still refused to let the MS get the better of her. At the time of her diagnosis, Ciara was doing a degree in psychology at Queen’s University and juggling two part-time bar jobs, which meant long hours and late shifts. When she began developing headaches and fatigue, she put it down to the stresses of everyday life and the amount of time she was devoting to her studies. “I was having these massive headaches, real thunderclap ones and feeling fatigued all the time,” Ciara says. “I thought that I was spending too much time in front of a computer screen or reading books with small writing. Even when I started to lose the feeling in my legs, I wrote it off as an old injury I’d picked up horse riding or the cold weather. “I had an explanation for everything. When I was exhausted, I told myself I’d been spending too much time in the gym. Then my behaviour began to change. I was acting erratically, not like myself at all. We all

thought it was something to do with my mental health, depression and anxiety, so I booked an appointment with my GP.”
ƒ Horsepower: indulging in her favourite past-time
In the surgery’s waiting room, Ciara mentioned to her mum Margaret that her leg had been annoying her for several months and that she couldn’t actually feel it. It was the first time Ciara had voiced this concern. When the GP was given this information, she suspected straight away that the loss of sensation in her leg was linked to the headaches, exhaustion and fuzziness in her right eye. Ciara’s doctor told her to go to the hospital the following day to see a specialist, but it was the day of her graduation and Ciara didn’t want to miss it. Instead she waited until the graduation weekend was over and headed straight to the hospital on the Monday morning. There, she was given the diagnosis of MS – devastating news for anyone, let alone a 22-year-old woman in the prime of her life. “Everything came crashing down around me,” says Ciara. “I’d heard of multiple sclerosis before, but I’d never imagined for one moment that I had it. I went into a massive black hole because I believed that it was game over. “Then I tried to push against it. I took on more charity work, was doing three jobs, working night shifts but eventually my body pushed back, and I crashed.” Working late nights impacted negatively upon her diet and Ciara piled on the pounds in a short space of time. She decided to join a Slimming World group at the Waterfoot and over the course of two years, lost an incredible three stone, ten pounds. Around this time, Ciara, realising she needed to make changes in her life to accommodate her condition, gave up the bar work and took up her own Slimming World franchise. She says she loves the freedom and flexibility it gives her and the buzz she gets from helping other people lose weight. Things came to a head about a year ago when a relapse left her with spinal cord deterioration, resulting in the loss of her mobility and confinement to a wheelchair. With the help of new medication which she’s received in infusion form over the last 12 months, Ciara has her condition pretty much under control, although she knows that due to its unpredictability, a flare up could happen any time. In the meantime, she’s taken up wheelchair basketball, though is still very much a novice. She continues to attend stables in Omagh which cater for those with disabilities, so she can indulge her life-long passion for horse riding.
ƒ Ciara in her wheelchair
And she’s still studying for her master’s degree in counselling and therapeutic communication. Her own experience with MS not only changed the focus of her dissertation but her perspective on life as well. She would love to do some support work for the disabled and help them learn to ‘re-identify’ themselves. “Last year, when I ended up in the wheelchair, I had to re-identify who I was. Before I was confined to the wheelchair, I was a very active person, camping with the scouts, being outdoors. When your body fails you, you have to work out who you are,” she says. “And yes, I’ve got that back to some extent. I feel much better and much more positive now. Slimming World helped with that and I’ve had amazing support from my parents, my boyfriend Caomhán and my brother Daniel. “I’ve learned so much about myself too. I can adapt to anything that is thrown my way. I’ve got my life back on track, I can manage my condition and I can look to the future more positively now.” Local Women | News Feature | 23

The Warrior Collection
Catriona Channing is a remarkable lady. As the owner of the very successful Blades and Beauty salon in Antrim, she loves to express her creativity through fashion, hair and work. Local Women proudly presents her latest collection… I started expressing my art through fashion years ago. My 2020 collection is called the Warrior Collection and it is about celebrating life and surviving. The show brings together creatives from art, fashion, music, production, hair and makeup. Professional models and survivors walk together, and the atmosphere is electric. At this moment of uncertainty all around the world, not just here in Northern Ireland, people are feeling stressed and anxious. The fear, anxiety and stress that everyone is feeling right now is what every single human being who has fought deadly diseases and illnesses and been in dangerous situations has faced many times. That is one of the reasons I decided that I would always celebrate survivors and surviving.
ƒ ‘Fight the Fear’ with Courtney Ledamun.
ƒ Yasmin Doyle
This is why my shows and catwalks are full of so much energy and resonate with so many people. Most of us will be ok after this pandemic is over but none of us will forget the fear it made us feel. Stay positive, laugh, smile, take some time to read a book, relax, breath, try to not let stress and anxiety eat away at your day. When this is all over, we all celebrate together, and we will all see things a little differently. Stay hopeful and stay safe,

UNDER THE SHELTER OF ONE ANOTHER PEOPLE SURVIVE. Helen Lilley owner of Sacred Tree urges us to be more compassionate in these difficult times
W
ell folks we are facing and living in unprecedented times as we face this pandemic together. I never thought I’d be writing that statement ever but it’s affecting everyone, all religions, colours and genders and no one is exempt. For me personally it is challenging me on every level from daughter to mother to business owner. Enjoying the fantastic workshop in Belfast
So how do we get through this - firstly we need to choose knowledge over hearsay and research statements and comments that you read online for yourself especially if they are not from official sources. It only feeds our anxiety and fear and that is not helping our mental health. We also need to demonstrate more compassion to others. Feeling worried at this time is normal and many people don’t know how to acknowledge their own anxiety and worries. If you are feeling scared or anxious or worried or all the above...talk to someone, by phone or text or video call a friend. Please reach out...don’t feel isolated if you feel you are alone, you are not.
Having a great day out
We also have to lead with empathy, towards our neighbours and those who are more vulnerable in our society. Don’t forget we are all facing the unknown together. We can handle fear better than we think. Look back at your life and all that you have been through, you are a born survivor. We need to reconnect with our innate support system of family and community. Connect into each other’s strengths and skills rather than looking or comparing our own weaknesses. Help those you can in your own way. Your skills that you might take for granted are needed in these times. Under the shelter of one another people survive.

Natural Gas is the heart of our home says Cullybakey Residents
After witnessing the benefits of natural gas in their daughter’s home, Cullybackey residents Helena and Ian decided to upgrade their heating from oil to natural gas.
H
aving received another large oil bill, and tasked with ordering more, the couple started looking into other heating alternatives. Their daughter had recently installed a natural gas system and was very happy with the flexibility and convenience of having their heating and hot water paid for monthly via direct debit as well as never having to worry about topping up.
ƒ Helena and Ian
With a quick phone call they arranged a visit with a firmus energy advisor. Environmentally aware Helena was delighted to hear that switching to natural gas could reduce carbon emissions by up to 50% compared to the previous system. She said: “When firmus energy’s advisor came out, she was amazing. She explained everything – the process, the benefits and what was involved in switching. I was surprised to hear that natural gas helped reduce carbon emissions by so much. This was an added bonus to for us as we are environmentally aware and we do try and do our bit.” “The entire installation was done before we knew it. After the meter was put in, our recommended installer came the next day and had everything switched over and finished by 5pm. No dirt, no hassle all I had to do was clear out my hot press!”

HAPPY EASTER FROM GASP
A special edition for all my readers Hello Local Women readers, I find it very difficult for me to write about fashion this month as a crisis is impacting upon our human nature, so I have decided to write you a special edition in the hope it will give you some support and strength during these difficult trying times of the Covid19 epidemic. The story of the Easter Bunny is thought to have become common in the 19th Century. Rabbits usually give birth to a big litter of babies (called kittens), so they became
a symbol of new life. Legend has it that the Easter Bunny lays, decorates and hides eggs as they are also a symbol of new life. I just thought I would open up my column this month with the meaning of the Easter Bunny - why you ask? Yes, Easter is upon but also because the Easter Bunny is a symbol of new life and I would like to take a moment to remind you all that we will all get through this difficult period and epidemic of Covid 19 together and life will become manageable once again. We will decorate our lives and our family’s with love and affection as the fear of the unknown will help us appreciate and value the little things in life. Buy yourself a nice Easter egg and celebrate the flavour of the chocolate inside. Call your loved ones sending them your blessings - don’t forget to hide the Easter Bunny eggs for the children. Yes, they will wreck the house looking for their prized eggs but just to see the excitement on their little faces is a remedy in itself. So whenever you find yourself doubting
how far you can go, just remember how far you have come. Remember everything you have faced, all the battles you have won and all the fears you have overcome! I look at all the health care workers preparing themselves for endless hours of work and family sacrifices so they can provide our people with all the care and attention they need, the elderly and sick who are very vulnerable and I have to keep reminding myself we are all in this together. Yes my business, that I have dedicated my life to will, and has no doubt, suffered a great loss of passing trade. Like every other business out there I am no different, it is nothing we have done wrong, the Covid19 is an epidemic we at present cannot control. It is easy for me to say it will be ok, but I worry about how am I going to pay my bills and suppliers etc. - then I stop and I reflect and I say to myself - I must be strong, think positive and stay focused because this too shall pass! If we all stay in panic mode it is the fear that will take us because you never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have. Sometimes we’re tested not to show our weakness but to discover our strengths, so I honestly think these trying times will pull us all together. We will all find the strength within us, as I firmly believe, if one has fear it will drain your energy and fear compels us to cling to negativity and chaos. What I am trying to get across in my column for this month is hope! I hope that you and your families will all stay safe, but also have the faith to stay strong minded and don’t give up on the little things in life just yet. Look out for one another because if you have hope it is like praying for rain, but if you have faith it is bringing that umbrella with you! Wishing you all a very Happy Easter Regards

Tanya knew she wanted to work in retail and thought the weekend position sounded perfect, so threw her name into the hat. The teacher even drove her to the shop so she could sit the interview.
“The shop has built up a good reputation and thanks to social media too, we’re spreading the word.”
Tanya was successful and soon found herself not just selling jewellery but helping out with repairs and jewellery displays. She had a knack for everything she turned her hand to and enjoyed the buzz of meeting customers and helping them choose that special piece. After a year or so, Tanya moved on but continued to work in retail as that is where her heart lay. Then about 10 years ago, fate decreed that she return to jewellery. She landed a job in Stewart’s Jewellers in Castle Street in Strabane, working in sales and repairs within the family business for seven years. When the owner, who had inherited the wellloved shop from his father, decided it was time to retire, he offered his experienced sales team the chance to take the business on. Tanya jumped at the chance and is now the proud owner of Stewart’s Jewellers. “The business has been in the town for 70 years this year and I took over two and a half years ago,” says Tanya. “When I worked there for seven years prior to taking the shop over, I did a bit of everything, sales, repairs, displays. I was delighted when I got the chance to run the shop myself, especially as working in the jewellery business was how I started working life when I left school. “It’s basically the same type of business but we modernised the stock to keep up with the times. We introduced new lines; more modern, fashionable jewellery but rather than focus on brand names that customers can buy online, we picked pieces in gold and silver that is that bit different; the type of costume jewellery that you mightn’t get elsewhere.” Breathing new life into old pieces of
Tanya, who comes from Donemana, believes family businesses such as Stewart’s are the beating heart of any small town in Northern Ireland and says that over the years, it has built up a loyal clientele. Occasionally, an elderly customer will pop in to ask about the Stewart family or because they have fond memories of the shop.
“We’re seeing more and more celebrities like Holly Willoughby, Victoria Beckham and the girls from Love Island wearing gold at the moment.”
The mum-of-two has seen trends come and go in the years that she has worked there. One huge trend she’s noticed recently is the return of good quality, nine carat gold. For quite a while gold fell out of favour with jewellery lovers and was replaced with silver, platinum and rose gold. While the latter has enjoyed a surge in popularity and continues to sell well, Tanya predicts nine carat gold will be all the rage again. “We’re seeing more and more celebrities like Holly Willoughby, Victoria Beckham and the girls from Love Island wearing gold at the moment; little gold chains, gold watches, that type of thing and that’s definitely taking off,” she says.

Dyson V7 Motor he ad UP TO 30 MINUTES OF CORDLESS CLEANING The Dyson V7 Motorhead Cordless Vacuum Cleaner has no cord so that you can easily clean all areas in your home, even the awkward spaces. The Dyson digital V7 motor is powered by a rechargeable battery that provides up to 30 minutes of fade-free cleaning, so that you don’t have to miss a single spot.
LIGHTWEIGHT DESIGN Weighing just 2.2 kg, the V7 can easily tackle every corner of the room. Whether you’re cleaning up high, down low, on the stairs or under furniture, it helps to keep your home looking pristine.
75% MORE POWER The V7 direct drive cleaner head is capable of up to 75% more brush bar power than the Dyson V6 cordless vacuum, so that you can clean hard floors and carpets effectively. Stiff nylon bristles remove ground-in dirt, while the carbon fibre filaments remove fine dust from hard floors. There’s no loss of suction either, delivering a powerful performance throughout the time you spend cleaning. Dealing with stubborn dirt? Use the max power setting to get your floor looking its best again.
CONVERTS TO HANDHELD The V7 converts easily to a handheld vacuum in seconds, so you can clean difficult places or clear up your car. And for hard to reach places, the additional combination tool and crevice tool let you clean your house from top to bottom.
EASY TO USE When you’re done, you can empty the bin with a single button press – the dirt ejector drives trapped dust and debris out in a single action for hygienic dirt removal. The convenient docking station also lets you store and charge your machine so that the V7 Vacuum is always ready to go, with storage that also holds all of the additional attachments. There’s even a separate charger, so you can plug it in anywhere around your home. Please note: 30 minute run time is based on powerful suction mode with a non-motorised tool attached

A new garden for summer?
Instant kerb appeal
Are you thinking about a new design for your garden? Or maybe it’s a completely blank canvas? Here are a few important points to consider:
with a driveway from Tobermore
T
o ensure that you will have the garden of
your dreams, you must include everyone who will be using the garden. For example if you have children, or even
grandchildren coming to visit, you might need a play area. This ensures the football stays away from your precious herbaceous border or greenhouse! If you have a dog, it might be useful to have a separate dog run area. Most people have an oil tank, coal bunker and several wheelie bins. These should have their own utility area, screened off with trellis and climbing plants. Most importantly, where does the sun rise and set in your garden? If you would like a paved patio area, it is imperative to position it to benefit from morning and evening sunshine. This may not be just outside the doors of your house, so you may require a path along the house and leading through the lawn to the patio area. If your garden is sloping, it is beneficial to create a level patio area which can be done using Tobermore’s Secura walling. This is easy to build as it does not require mortar, so it is a perfect project for the DIY enthusiast. It is better to have the patio level with the garden as it creates a more sheltered place to sit. If you require steps at each door of your house, it’s a good idea to make the step risers in a contrasting colour to the tread of the step, for example: Tobermore’s Heather Step Risers with Golden Tegula on the tread of the step. This ensures good visibility for safety. If you have patio doors which open outwards, the tread of the top step must be bigger than the door at approximately 1 metre. For a door opening inwards, the tread should be 60cm. If you would like a fabulous outdoor space to enjoy but you don’t know where to start, why not use our imagination? At Tobermore we offer a range of design services to suit all gardens and budgets. We offer a 30-minute design consultation free of charge at our paving centres, get in touch with one of our

This is the perfect time of year to start thinking about your new garden design. There is still plenty of time to have a plan drawn up, decide which paving products you would like to use, get a quote for the paving and arrange for someone to do the work. With a bit of good planning, you could be enjoying your new patio area in time for the lovely summer days which are just around the corner!

My only regret is that I didn’t have it done sooner.” Don Allen

SO HOW DOES SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION WORK? Tiny flecks of ink are applied to the top layer of skin. These super tiny dots resemble shaved hair follicles or can look like the base of hair follicles under thinning hair. Mark Smith, the global multi award winning scalp micropigmentation artist can basically make thin hair look more
dense or can a give a bald guy back what actually looks like a full head of hair but shaved. It’s amazing. The great thing about scalp micropigmentation is that the results are almost immediate and can last many years before requiring a top up treatment.
WHAT CAN SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION BE USED TO TREAT? Scalp micropigmentation is also known as SMP or a hair tattoo. The treatment’s popularity is huge in the US and other parts of the world and now becoming a popular choice as a hair loss solution in Northern Ireland. SMP has many uses. It’s most common use is for men who have severe hair loss. However, It’s equally effective for giving the appearance of more density in thinning hair and so a
great option to men and women alike suffering from various forms of alopecia.

In addition, it’s commonly used to camouflage scars on the scalp. These could be either small scars from minor injuries to large medical scars. The clinic offer free consultations with various treatment special offers on through winter and spring.
