VIJAYAWADA, ANDHRA PRADESH
HELLO! I’m a third-year undergraduate student studying at School of Planning and Architecture, Vijayawada. I got into architecture not knowing what the course could offer me. The journey until now has opened my eyes to various perspectives on design and the wide range of scope the field of architecture has rendered. I have been able to explore my creativity to a new extent and think out ways to solidify my ideas. I only hope to sharpen my skills and voice my visions through my design.

ORGANIC SHELVES Farming for the community
People’s choice award - Competition organized by UNI Supermarket Design · Community Driven · Urban Farming Location: Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Netherlands The design challenge here is to bring farming into the heart of the city, where people can engage with it and buy its fresh produce. The aim is to rethink the supermarket and retail layouts planned for impulsive buying and instead promote sustainable buying patterns. By adding farming into supermarkets, the design not only seeks a place to grow and store products but also to educate people in what they eat and thereby promote responsible consumption.

ORGANIC SHELVES · VIEW
Building an environment where consumption meets production, creates the ideal setting to encourage sustainable buying. With that in mind, the design solution proposed is to make use of sustainable technology whilst keeping it within the reach of the shoppers. The circulation has been thought through so as to break out of the traditional supermarket layout. The spaces have been arranged such that the user group interacts with the process as well as the final product. The market space being the rendezvous of various user groups, the design has been made to accommodate all their needs. The proposal is an amalgamation of traditional farming methods and contemporary techniques. By creating the same channel for production and public consumption on the same site, we are moving towards a more sustainable lifestyle.
18
ORGANIC SHELVES · VIEWS
Customers who enter the supermarket have an option to go up to the terrace cafe or continue shopping in the supermarket. This is done to streamline the circulation through the building. The journey through the greenhouses has been kept separate from the supermarket circulation so as to not make it a hassle for regular customers. The production of the products sold in the supermarket below is done in these greenhouses. Hydroponics is used in these greenhouses to get maximum produce with minimum wastage. Customers can buy from the greenhouses to get a first-hand experience of the process.
The seasonal market has been given keeping the local produce in mind. Moon gate arches with vines growing on top for shade create an enchanting space for the hustle-bustle to place. Greenhouses on both sides of the seasonal market sell gardening equipment and fertilizers to promote gardening in the locality.
19
ORGANIC SHELVES · VIEWS
The Garden spaces have been inspired by the concept of forest gardening. Panels with information regarding the products are placed on the pathway at intervals for educating the community. The pathway leads onto a tulip garden enclosed by round seating for customers to relax between shopping. Near the chicken coop, the supermarket area has been allotted for aquaponics and a fish market. This has been done to group the animal-based products in one place to make it easy for the customers.

THE TRANSIT · INTRODUCTION
THE TRANSIT Connecting present to the future
Competition organized by NON Architecture Social Inclusiveness · Community Thriving · Environmental Sustainability
Location: Ij Plein, Amsterdam Our vision for Amsterdam serves as a great example for future cities. It aims for a slower city where the quality of life is valued rather than conforming to the norms of a fast-paced society. One’s needs are met with just a walk or a cycle ride away, thus forming a tight-knit community of multi-cultural and multi-ethnic backgrounds. The existing and future communities of such a socio-cultural mix look forward to a fresh and thriving environment by 2050.

THE TRANSIT · VIEW
COMMUNITY SPACES: The need to rethink and reimagine community spaces while incorporating social inclusiveness and supporting the diversity of the place led to an idea that not only respects the privacy of the community but also creates a fluid social space that can be equally enjoyed by everyone. Several special pods are created to achieve community interaction that can be spread all around the city, which houses activities such as kids playground, amphitheatres, mini theatres, av rooms, etc. These pods are made sound insulated in order to maintain the peace of the neighbourhood. To make it a self-sustaining space, photovoltaic glass is used for the facades of these pods letting ample light in while it generates energy from the sun and helps power the neighbourhood. Algae facades are used on alternate surfaces of the pods. These bright green facades are made of hollow glass panels containing micro-algae farms.
30
THE TRANSIT · CONCEPTUALIZATION
An underwater cycling/pedestrian and goods travelator designed to reduce the time taken to travel from one port to another also provides a great view for the people while helping reach their destination faster.
31
By 2050 our vision for people of Amsterdam is no different than the one they see for themselves, to have access to better standards of living, better community interaction, negative carbon emissions, and a sustainable city they can be proud of. We hope these interventions are a step towards that future.
THE TRANSIT · CONCEPTUALIZATION
THE TRIAD BRIDGE: The need for a public transport system that reduces carbon emissions and increases connectivity in Ijplein, led to the development of the triad bridge - a transportation system of three different speeds - walking, cycling and tram. The bridge offers an alternate route to the travellers connecting the fragmented parts of the existing site. It acts as an energy self-reliant path featuring an overhead cover with a layout of reused bicycle wheels, mini windmills and a suspension tram that runs under the pathway. Pedestrian and cycle pathways offer visitors including tourists with aerial views of the city thus making their commute a memorable one. The elevated cycle/ pedestrian pathway acts as an efficient means of transportation even during flooding. The path incorporates the principles of the three R’s, REDUCE - the carbon emissions in air by reducing the need to use fuel-based transport systems, REUSE - of old bicycle wheels as a decorative element of the pathway, and RECYCLE - old construction materials to construct the pathway.

PURUKULA · INTRODUCTION
PURUKULA Voicing a community, housing a community
ANDC 2021-22 Mobile Settlement · Cultural Togetherness · Customizable Modules
Location: Hyderabad, Telangana Design of a mobile settlement to shelter construction labourers of a medium scale project. The design is collapsible and easily employed over a variety of terrain, stages of construction and weather conditions. The design addresses the core problems concerning safety, security, privacy and right to dignified lives for the labourers. Beyond providing a roof over their head, what labourers desperately need is a reason to unite and resist exploitation. Thus, the design gives them a voice and a uniting call for change.
