Fall Fun in Faulkner County Safe Places, Friendship and Fun Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Central Arkansas Where: Various locations throughout the community Contact: (501) 336-9505 or www. bbbsnca.com or bbbsnca@conwaycorp. net Program: Community-based, Bigs in Schools, Site-based programs and Big for a Day (one time group activities) Age: 6-14 Description: Community-based - volunteers provide children individualized time and attention on a regular basis, typically 2-4 hours per week. The “Big” and “Little” meet freely in the community at playgrounds, in the mall, over a meal, etc. The volunteer and child plan their outings together based on mutual interests and to help the child achieve greater self-confidence and awareness. Site-Based – Bigs and Littles meet at the Boys and Girls Club for one hour per week during the B&GC’s hours of operation. Big for a Day – Groups (civic, business, faith-based, etc) meet to provide an activity for our waiting Little Brothers and Little Sisters. Teamwork is essential in this program, and it requires a one year commitment from both parent and cheerleader. ⎯ Non-Travel Competitive Cheer –These teams do not travel out of state for competitions and only practice one time per week. The non-travel teams are a great opportunity to enjoy the benefits of competitive cheer with a smaller time and financial commitment. ⎯ Exhibition Cheer– The exhibition team is for preschool age kids who would love to be a cheerleader. They will be trained in all beginning tumbling and cheerleading skills. They will learn a routine, get a uniform, and perform at local competitions where they will be awarded an exhibition trophy! ⎯ Preschool Gymnastics – For ages 18 months to 5 years. Students develop strong motor skills, body control and upper body strength to prepare them for more advanced tumbling skills. ⎯ Tumble Classes – Tumbling classes based on USASF levels 1-5. ⎯ Boy’s Only Tumbling Classes ⎯ Cheer/Tumble Classes –Combines the basics of tumbling and cheerleading for a fun-filled class. • Gymnastics - Instruction for all ages (Kindergarten and older) and levels in gymnastics (men’s and women’s Olympic Events), trampoline, and tumbling. Gymnastics teams are also available for those students who desire to compete in the Olympic sport of gymnastics. • Preschool Gymnastics - Sonshine Academy’s Preschool Jungle Gym is specially designed to blend the endless energy and enthusiasm of preschoolers with the experience of our teachers into the neatest, coolest, and in the words of most 3 year olds “funnest” place in the world to learn gymnastics. Classes are available for children 18 months – 5 years of age. • Tumbling - Classes are available for students ages 5 – College. Classes are based on the USASF levels 1-5. Pre-requisites are required for each level and the office will be happy to assist you in finding the best class to meet your skill level. We also offer several “guys only” tumbling classes and power tumble/trampoline tumbling classes. We believe very strongly in teaching our tumbling classes based on progressions. Our written tumbling curriculum teaches our students
using progressions of skills in order to ensure their safety and proper technique. • Cheerleading - Our recreational cheer classes are for ages Kindergarten – 6th grade who would like to learn the fundamental cheerleading skills without the commitment of an all-star squad. We have a cheerleading curriculum that these classes use in order to teach the variety of skills used in cheerleading including motions, jumps, stunts, tumbling, and cheer dance. • Cheernastics – These classes are for those students who want to experience the best of both worlds. This class will teach the fundamental skills in both cheerleading and gymnastics. Students will receive instruction on all of the Olympic Gymnastics Events (Vault, Bars, Beam, Floor Exercise). In addition, they will learn fundamental skills in cheerleading such as motion technique, jumps, and stunting. Classes will be offered to the 4.5 -5 year old preschool students and kindergarten students. uaex.edu or www.faulknercounty4h.org Program: 4-H Community Clubs and Project Groups Age: 5-19 Description: 4-H is the youth development program conducted by the University of Arkansas, Division of Agriculture, Cooperative Extension Service. 4-H members can select from many activities in 82 project areas ranging from automotive to clothing to space camp. Trained adult leaders teach projects to children using the “learn -by-doing” method. 4-H teaches leadership, citizenship, and skills children will use throughout their lives. Community 4-H clubs usually meet once a month and offer programs in areas such as nutrition, gardening, environmental stewardship, public speaking, photography, vet science, pet care and more. 4-H clubs and groups also participate in a variety of community service activities. In addition to community clubs, Faulkner County has several 4-H project groups and a 4-H Teen Leader

• Suzuki Talent Education in violin is offered as an option for younger children. Children learn music just as they learn their own language, through listening (to recordings of their music), encouragement, and repetition in practice. Program: Vocal Ensemble Central Arkansas Children’s Choir is made up of Choristers, a training choir, and Concert Choir , a more challenging choir, for boys and girls in grades 4-8. The intent of the choir is to promote musical literacy and performance by providing a challenging, high quality, choral experience for its members. This award-winning choir will be singing at several new venues this year and plans a performance out of state. Rehearsals begin Mon., Sept. 14, 6-7:30pm.
