Guideline on Exam 98 – 366 Microsoft offers many exams for its students which in future helps them in availing different opportunities. The Microsoft certificate holders seems to cover many important field of information technology. In exam 98 – 366 the students are told about specific weight of topics which covers major area of examination for 98 - 366.

It covers the following topics mainly for the purpose of preparation of exam:

Understanding complex network substructures (30 – 35 %):

30 – 35 % of the exam 98 – 366 consists of network infrastructures which includes topologies and many access methods. It contains all geometric properties of a network system. In communication networks, the schematic arrangement of network comes under the principle of topology. Network topology refers to physical and logical network systems. Wide Area Networks (WAN’s) contains more than two Local Area Networks (LAN’s) which can be connected through various satellites. These networks are extended over large spaces. WAN can be connected through switches and provide audio and video services to its end user. Incoming and outgoing connections are carried out by communication servers .

Understanding Network Hardware (20 – 25 %):

Applicants must prepare network hardware in which network media types describes twisted pair cables, coaxial cables, and fibre optic cables. Shielded twisted pair (STP) cables are least expensive media of communication and transfers information in adequate speed. Understanding the structures of these cables is necessary in order to get full information about their working. Coaxial cables covers more distance than twisted cables. There are many applications of wireless networking in the system hardware. For example: the wireless connection of a mouse or a keyboard in computer, using satellite for internet connection in homes and offices, Wi-Fi connection on cellular phones. Pupils applying for Exam 99 – 366 should be skilled in all above fields of technology as it cover 20 – 25 % of the exam.

Understanding protocols and services (45 – 50 %):

This topic covers most of the exam as its weightage is 45 – 50 %. The candidate should be expert in the open systems interconnections (OSI) models, understands IPv4 which covers dual IP stack, addresses which are reserved for local usage. After full command of IPv4, the applicant is advised to study thoroughly all the branches of IPv6, which covers main topic such as backward compatibility. One should be aware of their comparison also. Gateway, ports, packets etc. contains the core concepts of protocols and services. The reconciliation of an IP address on a computer is known as names resolution. Microsoft offers two types of name resolutions which are specific and standard. There are two methods of resolving names but it depends upon the host name TCP/IP or NetBIOS name. NetBIOS consists of 16-bytes address used to recognize resource on a particular network. Applicants should focus on this area too.
