Barack Albert MahatmaGand Leading Introverts The surprising truth behind quiet success Susan Cain Thursday 6 April 1.30-4pm Milton Court

In business the alpha approach is too frequently celebrated over quieter personalities. Shyness, sensitivity and seriousness are often seen as negative traits. But some of our most transformative leaders have been introverts.

At this event, Susan Cain will explore how to embrace our own inner introverts and empower introverted employees. At least a third of us are on the introverted side but leadership teams can be imbalanced with extroverts dominating. Those who sit back and think are overlooked in favour of their louder colleagues. Can you afford to keep underutilising your most important resource – your people? Discover how to unleash the power of quiet and effective leaders with simple steps to ensure every personality type can reach their full potential.

About Susan Cain Susan Cain believes that society dramatically undervalues the talents of introverts and the creative possibilities that ensue when introverts and extroverts truly respect and understand each other. Susan’s book, QUIET: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking, has been translated into 40 languages and is on its fifth year on the New York Times bestseller list. Her TED talk has been viewed over 15 million times and was named by Bill Gates as one of his all-time favourite talks. Susan co-founded the Quiet Leadership Institute, which helps organisations unlock the power of introverts within their teams.

Blanchard Servant leadership Ken Blanchard Wednesday 10 May 1.30-4pm The Mermaid Theatre

Ken Blanchard believes the world is in desperate need of a new leadership model—and that model is servant leadership where leaders partner with their people to set and attain goals. He asks one question of leaders, “Are you here to serve or to be served?” How you answer this question reflects a fundamental difference in the way you approach leadership. If you believe leadership is all about you, where you want to go and what you want to achieve, then

your leadership, by default will be more self-focused and self-centred. On the other hand, if your leadership revolves around meeting the needs of the organisation and the people working for it, you will make different choices that will reveal a more “others-focused” approach. Ken Blanchard will explain how to partner with your staff to inspire great performance that leads to personal and organisational success.

Creativity How to be an ideas generator Rod Judkins Tuesday 27 February 9.30am-12pm Design Museum

The real currency of our time isn’t money. It’s ideas. We’re surrounded by ideas. Films, products, books, messages, services and everything in our culture began life as a vision in someone’s head. If you have ideas, you’re at the heart of things. Your ability to succeed personally and professionally is tied to your ability to think creatively. You need to be adaptable and open minded as well as a problem solver, communicator and inventor. An Olympic athlete trains their body. A creative thinker trains their imagination.

About Rod Judkins Rod Judkins is an innovative lecturer at Central St Martins, one of the world’s pre-eminent art schools. He has lectured and consulted on the subject of creativity at universities and businesses around the world. He is author of The Art of Creative Thinking, which has been translated into a dozen languages and his most recent book is Ideas Are Your Only Currency.
