Origins: Interpreting my Sources Peter Layton Exhibition Catalogue 1 - 31 August 2019
This year’s title ‘Origins: Interpreting my Sources’ explores areas of inspiration; things seen or imagined while travelling, beachcombing or simply gazing at the sea or sky provide starting points for new creative ventures. Waves, mountains, clouds, markets - as in ‘Marrakech’ and landscapes as in ‘Prairie’, have inspired new works of which I am extremely proud. I’m really enjoying, as much as I ever did, the experimental making process and finding new directions to explore.

WAVES
Waves Hotsculpted Glass Left: £1,800 Centre: £2,150 Right: £1,750 Series Photo credit: Ester Segarra
Hokusai’s famous ‘Great Wave’ was my source of inspiration for this series. I explored a variety of forms, colours and techniques in an attempt to interpret the qualities I admire. Among these is a sense of frozen movement which is also an intrinsic element of the process of working with hot glass. As the glass cools it requires crucial decisions in order to capture a particular form, by allowing the glass to freeze in that moment.
