Exploring the Light 2014 April 19 – June 8, 2014 Opening Cocktail Reception April 19, 2014 3:00pm Lone Tree Arts Center The 12th Annual Lone Tree Photographic Art Show and Sale has a new name – Exploring the Light. This juried photo competition is presented by the Lone Tree Arts Commission and the Lone Tree Photo Club and runs April 19 to June 8, 2014 at the Lone Tree Arts Center, 10075 Commons Street, Lone Tree, Colorado, 80124. Eligibility Open to photographers residing in Colorado. Deadline Monday, February 24, 2014. Submission Photographers may submit up to three images in multiple categories. Images must be submitted via www.callforentry.org (CaFE TM). All images must be formatted to the following CaFÉ™ specifications: Dimensions: 1920 pixels on the longest side; File Format: JPEG; File Size: JPEG under 1.8 MB. The Exploring the Light Committee will be responsible for all decisions regarding acceptability and reserve the right, in its sole discretion, to accept or reject an entry and change the entry’s category if deemed appropriate. Categories Landscape - Images that portray the features, characteristics and weather of the land, sea and sky including urban or manmade landscapes. Animals - Images of all kinds of animals: including birds, reptiles, amphibians, insect as well as photos of wildlife, zoo life, farm and domesticated animals. (No people.) Motion - Images that pass the feeling of motion to the viewer including panning, smearing and freezing. Abstract - Images that concentrate on shape, form, color, pattern, texture, angles, and blur. The viewer is often unable to see the whole object with the focus on only a small part of it making many images macro. The aim is to help the viewer gain an emotional attachment to the image or enjoying the ‘feel’ of how it looks. *Multiple Category – For photographers submitting more than one image in more than one category. The intended category for jurying MUST be included under the description field.
Entry Requirements Eligible photographers may enter up to three images via www.callforentry.org (CaFE TM). Images must be originals executed and altered by the photographer only. Images should be non-offensive to a general audience of all ages. Images must be for sale. Images must have been completed within the last three years, and not shown in a previous Lone Tree photography show. Accepted images must remain on display for the duration of this exhibit. Images must be delivered and retrieved during the designated drop off and pick up times only. (Drop off, Wednesday, April 16, 2014 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Pick up Monday, June 9, 2014, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.) Photographers may submit in multiple categories, but must select the “multiple category” option in CaFE TM and provide the intended category for jurying within the description of the image. Images must include a finished frame size and sales price on the application. This information will be printed. Awards Individual images submitted via CaFE TM are juried by a blind jury review process. Invited images are juried for awards based on final presentation of artwork including the image quality, content, frame, mat and title. Photographer identification will be hidden from view when jurying. Total Cash awards are estimated at $4,000. Best of Show will be awarded gallery space for approximately 30 days at the Lone Tree Arts Center following the photo show. Entry and Fees: Up to three entries may be submitted by an individual. A non-refundable entry fee of $35 is required. Fees may be paid via credit card on CaFE or check made payable to the City of Lone Tree and mailed to: Lone Tree Arts Center, c/o Exploring the Light, 10075 Commons Street, Lone Tree, CO, 80124.
Exploring the Light 2014 Presentation All images must be delivered framed and ready to hang. Framing must meet gallery quality standards. Frames must be undamaged and reinforced with hardware and picture wire (saw tooth hangers are not acceptable) and suitable for the Arakawa Hanging System. Plaque board, metal and Plexiglas are acceptable. Glass clips for framing are not acceptable. Framed finished images must not weigh more than 35 lbs. A label must be attached to the back of the image identifying artist, title, category and price. Entries not meeting specifications will not be hung. Sales All images must be for sale. The Lone Tree Arts Center will conduct sales at the Box Office and retain a 20% commission. Photographers should consider the 20% commission when pricing artwork. Accepted photographers may sell up to six images of bin work at the opening reception only. A bin will be provided or photographers may provide their own bin. Bring bin work and the Bin Work Form to the reception on April 19, 2014. Exploring the Light catalogues, listing sales and photographer contact information, will be available to the public throughout the photo show. Images may not be removed before the end of the photo show. Insurance and Liability Utmost care will be taken of all artwork while on display in Exploring the Light photo show. By submitting images, the photographer agrees the Lone Tree Arts Commission, the City of Lone Tree and the Lone Tree Arts Center, are in no way responsible for any damage to or theft of any images. Photographers are responsible for maintaining their own insurance. Exploring the Light - Photo Show Book With photographer’s permission, the Lone Tree Photo Club will compose a book with accepted entries representing Exploring the Light 2014. Accepted images will be printed with the photographer’s name and information about the image such as location, camera and the story behind the photo. To participate, you must indicate participation under the questions in CaFE TM and submit the Exploring the Light Questionnaire online atwww.lonetreephotoclub.com. Exploring the Light will be available for viewing and purchase online after opening of the show on April 19, 2014.

2014 Juror Glenn Randall Since 1979, Glenn Randall has combined his love of wilderness with a passion for photography. His intimate knowledge of atmospheric optics, weather, and the landscapes he photographs allows him to find the intersections of magical light and stunning subject matter that produce exceptional images. His work has been published in Audubon, Avalanche, Barnes & Noble, Brown Trout, Sierra Club, Nature Conservancy, and Runner’s World calendars and in Audubon, GEO, Outdoor Photographer, Outside, SKI, Los Angeles Times Magazine, National Geographic Adventure, New York Times Magazine, and many others. Prints of his fine-art landscape photographs can be found in several Colorado galleries. His photographs have also been used by many book publishers and corporate clients. At age 56, he has accumulated over 1,100 photo credits, including 71 covers, and sold over 10,000 prints. He was the sole photographer for two books of landscape photographs, Rocky Mountain National Park Impressions and Colorado Wild & Beautiful, both published by Farcountry Press. He recently finished Sunrise from the Summit, a seven-year project in which he shot sunrise (or occasionally sunset) from the summit of all fifty-four Colorado Fourteeners.
