KATE CORBETT –WINDER “It has been balm to an art dealer’s soul and a reassurance that, somewhere, God’s in his Heaven - All’s right with the (art) world. Witnessing the serene natural curve of Kate’s evolution into an artist of power and accomplishment over the years we’ve known and worked together has been pure pleasure… Kate’s fierce commitment to her art, in harmony with her connection to the native soil, makes for beautiful paintings.” – Jonathan Clark, May 2021 “High on a hill above in Montgomeryshire you might find Kate Corbett Winder’s studio. While she does sketch and make notes out of doors, it is here she translates the broken light and feminine contours of the Welsh Marches into objective paintings” – Grey Gowrie, April 2016 “On my first visit to the studio of Kate Corbett Winder the sat nav directed me away from the main road, gently
climbing into the hills and arriving in a lane edged with cowslips and a view over the valleys of the Welsh Marches. Not a house or studio to be seen! Unwittingly, it seemed completely appropriate that I should be brought to the landscape that has inspired her work for many years, revealing heightened nuances in the paintings I later saw in her studio.” – Sarah Long, April 2021
“I am fascinated by the pattern of fields and often imagine looking down at an abstracted aerial view; using the grid of hedges and geometric buildings to divide a composition. Something in the landscape triggers an idea for a painting. It can be the eccentric peaks on the skyline, the sharp diagonals of a field in shadow, a telegraph pole or a clump of foxgloves that make vertical patterns across the picture. What excites me most is the rhythm in the landscape - the way it drives a composition.” – Kate Corbett Winder, April 2021
