2018–2019 CLASSICAL SERIES We invite you to join us for a magnificent series of six classical concerts performed by our professional orchestra. This 2018–2019 season marks our 84th year and the second for new Music Director Eckart Preu. We open our season with a collection of works by four distinctive American composers from Frank Zappa to Bernstein to Gershwin. In November we indulge in the heady works of Romantic composers, Brahms and Dvořák and in February we honor the Classical period with works by Beethoven and Haydn, as well as their contemporary, Josef Boulogne, one of the first classical composers of African ancestry. In March, we travel North to uncover the complexities of composers from Finland, Iceland, and Russia and then take things to the ethereal with a concert of compositions inspired by the celestial. The finale will round off the year with the grandeur of Beethoven’s Ninth with full chorus.
