SkyLight Paths Publishing is creating a place where people of different spiritual traditions come together for challenge and inspiration, a place where we can help each other understand the mystery that lies at the heart of our existence. Through spirituality, our religious beliefs are increasingly becoming a part of our lives—rather than apart from our lives. While many of us may be more interested than ever in spiritual growth, we may be less firmly planted in traditional religion. Yet, we do want to deepen our relationship to the sacred, to learn from our own as well as from other faith traditions and to practice in new ways. SkyLight Paths sees both believers and seekers as a community that increasingly transcends traditional boundaries of religion and denomination— people wanting to learn from each other, walking together, finding the way.

What Are We Doing? SkyLight Paths recognizes that believers and seekers of different faith traditions, or no specific tradition, want to listen to and learn from each other as never before. We want to help them. This does not mean that our readers leave their own religious traditions behind. It does mean that they are open to one faith enriching another. SkyLight Paths will help believers deepen their faith and help seekers in their search. We will succeed only if our books make a difference in your life. We are all walking together, finding the way.

Wil Hernandez, PhD, Obl. OSB Foreword by Ronald Rolheiser

Discover Henri Nouwen’s authentic, spacious spirituality of being deeply beloved. This introduction to the spiritual thought of Henri Nouwen distills his key insights on the realm of the spiritual life into an inspiring overview of Nouwen’s spirituality of the heart. Thematically assembled to direct readers to the corresponding primary sources, it explores the three spiritual constructs—solitude, community and ministry—that Nouwen addresses in much of his writing, and how they form what he saw as a balanced, authentic spirituality.

“ This is a life-giving reminder that spirituality is not a program added to one’s life, but it spills from our heart and from the very core of our being. This book is both an invitation and an essential encouragement.” —Rev. Terry Hershey, author, Sanctuary: Creating a Space for Grace in Your Life Wil Hernandez, PhD, Obl. OSB, a spiritual director and international workshop and retreat leader, teaches courses on the spirituality of Henri Nouwen at seminaries and universities throughout the United States and abroad. Mychal Copeland is the Bay Area director of InterfaithFamily. Her rabbinate includes having served Congregation Beth Simchat Torah, the world’s largest LGBTQI synagogue. She works with both multifaith and Jewish groups that engage the intersection of LGBTQI and religious identities.
