The Bethpage Best of L.I. has become the largest business awards program in the history of Long Island. Poindexter, or Dexter as we call him, is a 4 year old, very handsome Pointer/Lab mix that came into the shelter as a stray. He is fairly calm and mellow for a guy his age and sweet, affectionate and soft in his mannerisms. He loves to play ball or chase a toy you throw and brings it back to you for more. He knows sit, lie down, wait (using a hand signal) and come and then will sit again, all for a treat! Dexter walks well on lead but wants to chase moving cars so a firm, yet kind correction is needed. He seems to relate best to people he knows and trusts and has no qualms about positioning himself in their lap! Initially, he appeared to be worried about people near his food so he has been working with a trainer and has made outstanding progress, but it is for this reason that we recommend kids 12 and older in the home. He would gladly devote himself to a single person or couple who has the patience to give him the gentle guidance he needs. A less chaotic, more stable household would be ideal. He would easily integrate into your home and life if given the opportunity. Will you take a chance on letting him into your heart as well?
