Mayne takes on 12-hour trial
LAST Sunday, Birdwell Wheeler Trevor Mayne rode in the Team Swift 12 hour time trial on a course based round Melbourne in East Yorkshire. Mayne was last to start at 6:34am.
He maintained a steady pace over the first 6 hours then was delayed for a short while by a change of shoes.
Ably assisted with food and drink by Christine and Philip Minto of Birdwell and Alex Deck of Rutland CC he eventually recorded a distance of 253.94 miles breaking the club age record of 235.60 miles at 55 years old previously set by Alan Jones in 2005.
The previous Wednesday Mayne and fellow Wheeler Paul Heggie rode in Barnsley RC’s 10 mile time trial at Park Springs. Mayne finished in 23m 28s for 4th overall whilst Heggie finished in 25m 08s for 14th place. Birdwell Wheelers 10 mile championship is next Wednesday at Park Springs.
Sunday’s club ride was cancelled due to the poor weather.
This Sunday there are two club rides to Langsett. As well as the usual ride from
Brewers Fayre roundabout at 9am there is a beginner’s ride for those not used to group riding. This leaves Birdwell obelisk, The Walk, Birdwell at 9am. Visitors are welcome.
