Cross Country Late call off
frustrates Rugby Club A disappointing late call off, due to a waterlogged pitch at Hessle RUFC, in the shadows of the Humber Bridge, made it three postponed games for Globe Holidays sponsored Stocksbridge Rugby & more congestion for their fixture pile up.
The meeting time had just passed and Stocksbridge were just about to set off for Humberside when news of the failed pitch inspection came through. There were a couple of games played in the Yorkshire 4 Counties competition, with next week’s visitors to the Coal Pit Lane stadium, 2nd placed Thornensians suffering a 13-12 reverse to Leeds Modernians. Stocksbridge remain in 12th position in the league ladder, but with games in hand, they will be looking to climb towards mid-table. The Round 12 clash against Thornensians is a 2.15pm kick-off, and is the Club’s Christmas Jumper fixture, the final game of 2023. Stocksbridge Rugby will begin 2024 with a tough Round 13 assignment away at Leeds Modernians on Saturday 20th January.
Valley hill runners had a team at the cross country in Graves park, on Saturday. Sadly due to illness, the team only had 3 men but the lads ploughed on in the horrendous conditions. After a weekend of rain the park was wet and very muddy but the ‘three musketeers’ carried on to complete the crosscountry series. Michael Savage, Jonny Briggs, Steve Sansom pictured.
