Five Arrested in Afternoon Residential Skirmish In an afternoon marked by chaos and violence, Police responded to reports of a disturbance on Sunday, February 18th, The situation escalated quickly as a group of five individuals engaged in a fight involving a bladed weapon.
Police urge anyone with any information regarding the incident to come forward and assist in the ongoing inquiries. Individuals can contact South Yorkshire Police at 101, quoting incident number 520 of February 18th, 2024.
Armed officers swiftly descended upon Cedar Road in Stocksbridge, following the disturbance reported at 3.33 pm. Police were bolstered by support from the National Police Air Service, as tensions ran high in the residential neighbourhood.
In a separate incident, Kirklees police are appealing for witnesses after gunshots were fired in Holmfirth on Friday night (February 16).
Following thorough searches of the surrounding properties, law enforcement managed to apprehend the individuals involved. Among those arrested, a 41-year-old man was taken into custody for affray. Additionally, a 32-year-old man faces charges of both affray and child neglect, while a 29-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of child neglect. Moreover, a 30-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman were detained for possession of a firearm. As the investigation unfolds, all five suspects remain in police custody, awaiting further legal proceedings.

A firearm was discharged on Dunford Road in the town, close to the junction with South Lane, at around 9.50 pm, say police. A man has been arrested and taken into custody in connection with the incident. Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Stacey Atkinson said: “I’d like to reassure people that this was an isolated and targeted incident and that there is no wider threat to the public. “I would appeal for anyone who was in the area at that time or who may have video footage of the incident, or circumstances leading up to it, to please come forward.”
