OWLERTON TO STAGE HUGE SPEEDWAY EVENT

SHEFFIELD bosses are ‘proud and honoured’ to be staging the biggest individual event in Championship speedway racing again. Owlerton Stadium, which is in the process of gaining a plush new banqueting suite, will stage the Championship Riders’ Individual meeting on Sunday September 1. And it’s a move which underlines the high praise Owlerton has again received for hosting national events. Club co-promoter Damien Bates said: “It’s very pleasing for Sheffield because I think there are certain tracks which suit a type of event. “We will be working hard to promote this meeting because Owlerton does seem to be almost like the home of the individual meeting for the Championship. The atmosphere is always electric and

the rivalry within the pits is always intense.
