Hinchcliffe breaks 32 minute barrier as PBs tumble

PENISTONE Footpath Runners either took to the roads of Dewsbury or the fells above Langsett over the weekend.

Those heading over to the Dewsbury 10k were looking for personal bests on a course which is well known for producing fast times.

Many personal bests were achieved but performance of the day went to Scott Hinchcliffe who became the first ever Penistone runner to break the 32 minute barrier in a time of 31-43. Scott was the third runner back in a field of 2,200 runners.

A number of hardy runners took on the 14.5 mile Mickledon Straddle on the snowy fells above Langsett. The race heads out from Langsett towards Howden Reservoir before returning to Langsett via the tough Howden Clough climb.

Conditions were challenging with many taking a tumble on the icy surfaces. First Penistone runner back was Robin Clough in 2-13- 20. Julie Darigala had a strong run to claim the prize for first over-40 woman.

Ian Charlesworth from Penistone completed the 19 mile Wadsworth Trog fell race in 3-42- 47 which is a 17 minute improvement on his previous best time for the race. Conditions were cold, icy with soft snow on route and the bogs were frozen.

Damian Kilpin completed his 150th Parkrun with a run at the new Storthes Hall Parkrun.
