Tutor Richard set for German exhibition

BARNSLEY Sixth Form College Art tutor Richard Kitson has received a special invitation to exhibit his work in Barnsley’s twin town, Schwäbisch Gmünd, in Germany.

The exhibition, entitled Richard Kitson: Portraits, will run from Saturday March 16 to Saturday April 27 in the Labor im Chor gallery within the Museum und Galerie im Prediger.

Richard was invited to stage the exhibition after members of the Barnsley Schwäbisch Gmünd Twin Town Society saw his work on display at The Cooper Gallery during a visit to South Yorkshire in 2018.

The German visitors were so impressed that Richard then received an official invitation from the Lord Mayor of Schwäbisch Gmünd, Richard Arnold, to exhibit his work in Germany.

Richard Kitson said: “I feel very fortunate to be exhibiting my work in Schwäbisch Gmünd. I think it is important to maintain and build new cultural links and I’m looking forward to getting to

know our twin town and its people. I will also be going to the town to run some workshops with students from the art school in April which I’m really looking forward to.”

The exhibition at the Labor im Chor gallery will be Richard’s first international solo exhibition. In 2018, he was selected to participate in Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year and has already painted several notable figures including Barnsley MP and South Yorkshire Mayor Dan Jarvis MBE and Paralympic Gold medallist Kadeena Cox MBE.
