Six hours trapped in chair

AN 87-year-old widow from Stocksbridge was rescued by three mystery young men when they came to her aide after she got stuck in a garden chair for six hours.

On a sunny Sunday in May, Liz Barber was busy tidying up her garden when she decided to sit down and have a rest - but to her shock and surprise the garden seat gave way and she became wedged in the seat, unable to move.

Liz, a Scrabble enthusiast, was utterly stuck with only her pet cat Penny for company. Her only option was to shout for help.

The former Countdown TV contestant was faced with her toughest conundrum since she appeared on the popular daytime TV show in the late 1980s.

She shouted and shouted and eventually, six hours later, three mystery young men came to her rescue and called for the emergency services who had to cut Liz free.

Liz, a former radiographer, was taken to hospital where she was given the all clear after x-rays and check-ups. With only scratches and bruises for her troubles, she was reunited with Penny her cat.

Liz told Look Local: “I’m ever so grateful to the three wonderful young men who helped me - without them I may still have been stuck in there now!”
