At 76 with no desire to retire, Mr Ronksley was finally awarded a Chairman’s Award by Chairman of Ecclesfield Parish Council, Councillor Terry Bawden, for his tireless dedication to his work in the community.
People of all ages know Mr Ronksley. Dogs loved hearing the chimes of his van because they too got free treats.
Mr Ronksley’s niece praised the chairman of the council for giving this award. She said: “Since March, he has had just a few days off. Almost nothing can stop him from going out on his round.”
Facebook has exploded with support for Mr Ronksley. “Worrall Road salutes you sir,” said one.
“Mr Ronksley deserves and MBE,” said another. Many regard him as a local legend - serving the community doing something he loves.
Cllr Bawden said: “Mr Ronksley enjoys interacting with the new generations, with pet owners - actually with everyone. Mr Ronksley is our legend, and long may he continue around High Green, Burncross and Chapeltown.”
