The project will form the heart of Sky-House Co’s plans to bring a new generation of housing design excellence to the former British Tissues site. RADIO STATION READY TO GIVE A VOICE TO ALL PENISTONE FM have announced their brand new project in partnership with the National Lottery Awards for All. Earlier this year, the community radio station were awarded funding from the community fund of the National Lottery Awards for All, after becoming increasingly aware of the main studio’s lack of open space. Station bosses wanted to increase accessibility so that everyone in the community could feel they were able to be part of an exciting community group in the local area. The station also received some local financial help from the Penistone Round Table, the Penistone Mayor’s Fund and Penistone Town Council to complete the project. It was intended to launch the project in the summer. Unfortunately this was not possible, for the safety of volunteers and staff.

Penistone FM are offering the opportunity for people who are interested to come along once a week for three weeks to a two-hour, fullyfunded taster session, where they will be able to gain experience and confidence with the different roles within a radio station. In turn, this can also boost confidence in their own voice. The new equipment also includes the ability to record voice links at home via a new link system so that if they are unable to visit the studio some weeks, they can still continue to learn. Organisers have also ensured that the station complies with all the current COVID-19 health and safety guidelines to ensure that current and new volunteers feel safe while at the station.
However, after months of hard work redesigning the main studio to be accommodating to people of all accessibilities, they have announced that the studio is fully refurbished and ready and waiting for new volunteers to join them.
Martin Sugden, Station Director, said: “We believe there are lots of people who will benefit from this and ultimately we want to reduce the barriers to learning and involve people regardless of age who may feel isolated through mobility, loneliness or opportunity.
This has been done with an aim of giving more people the chance to learn new skills in the newly refur-

WE WILL REMEMBER THEM: CHEER FOR HEROES WILL Coronavirus stop Remembrance Day events this year? Not in one community in north Sheffield! The Royal British Legion in Chapeltown and local church, St. John’s, are inviting the community to remember the fallen in a different way this year. They were looking for a ceremony that draws people together in a safe way. So instead of the usual parade service at church and the War Memorial, there’s a chance for the whole
community to celebrate with a ‘Cheer for Heroes’. At 11am on Sunday November 8, everyone is encouraged to come out onto their street to mark a minute’s silence and give three cheers for our heroes; those who gave their lives for our freedom – and those who still do today. Vicar of St. John’s, Revd. Rick Stordy, said: “Remembrance Day has always been a special time for the people of Chapeltown; usually many hundreds

Various plans are being designed and residents will soon be asked to give their feedback. Speaking to Look Local about the plans, East Ecclesfield and Labour Councillor Andy Bainbridge stated: “Ecclesfield Park is well loved and well used. The playground, multiuse-games-area and
skating area are great, but I don’t believe there is enough leisure and recreation facilities currently at the park. “This is why Labour have instructed council officers to explore what more should be done to transform the site into an ‘Active Park’, to provide activities and opportunities for a wide range of ages and abilities.
“This will come at a cost, but we believe that our parks and green spaces are a priority. “As well as extra funding going into the park, the wider community will be consulted to ensure the council are listening to residents about the improvements they want to see. “It is in everyone’s interest to make Ecclesfield Park as

WHIRLOW Hall Farm Trust is a local charity, based on the outskirts of central Sheffield, providing educational support for children and young adults who struggle with mainstream education and give them opportunities that would, otherwise, not be available to them.
The lockdown, earlier this year, proved to be hard work for the farm as they strived to provide consistent support to many individuals. But regardless, they have been trying their best to support their local community in any way they can be it through the Whirlow LIFE
program or their farm shop and butchery.
As life is ever so slowly getting back to normal, Whirlow are trying their best to expand the services they provide and the support they can provide. With thanks to Twinkl, a huge part of that aim has been achieved. Twinkl is an online educational publisher based nearby on Ecclesall Road. Twinkl has been generous enough to provide Whirlow with the support and funding to redevelop their old hen house. With a launch weekend sponsored by Twinkl, of October 24 and 25 from 10am
to 5pm, Whirlow and Twinkl are proudly launching the Old Hen House as the new animal handling barn. It will be home to a plethora of handheld creatures such as rabbits, guinea pigs, hens and few of the barns other residents who you can have the pleasure of meeting. To further celebrate, they will be running tractor tours as well as a BBQ, in addition to having their farm shop and café open. They are hoping that those who are interested in supporting local businesses and charities can be there to witness the grand opening of this wonderful achievement.
It is expected that the Council will invest around an additional £250,000 for Ecclesfield Park and, following a feasibility study and public consultation, that with work is due to be completed by the end of March 2021.

New online hub launches to help young people into work and training Inspire_SY has launched on social media platforms to share training, job and support opportunities from over 50 businesses and partner organisations in Sheffield. Sheffield City Council and the local Department for Work and Pensions found that fewer services are being delivered face to face and that young people need help to connect them with the great opportunities available in the area. The online ‘youth hub’, aimed at 16-24 year olds, provides young people with a go to place for up to date self-help information plus signposting to qualified guidance to help with decision making. By following Inspire_SY online, young people can
access information about local organisations providing support with CV’s, interview preparation, jobs, apprenticeships and job matching services, emotional wellbeing and mental health support, digital skills training, personal development workshops and more. Councillor Abtisam Mohamed, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills at Sheffield City Council said: “Inspire _SY is a fantastic project to help us make sure all our young people in Sheffield are able to access education, training or employment opportunities right across the region. “Working in partnership with businesses across South Yorkshire young people will be able to access the skills

Another inspirational young person raises money for Paces ANOTHER inspirational pupil from Paces, the High Green special school for children and adults with Cerebral Palsy and motor disorders, has handed over a cheque for £2,716 after creating and selling wooden works of art from his home during the coronavirus lockdown. Jack Mitchell, 18, has Cerebral Palsy which affects both his arms and legs, and to communicate he uses an Eye Gaze. Despite these challenges, he wanted to help with Paces’ fundraising to build a new school and specialist centre in a new location. He has been busy over the past few months in his special shed at home making wooden clocks, cactus pots, candle holders and much more. He sells them and delivers the products, sociallydistanced, to his customers every weekend. Jack follows his fellow pupils, nine-year-old ‘Captain’ Tobias and eight-year old Lennie, in
fundraising for Paces School since the start of the pandemic. Ruth Liu, Headteacher of Paces School, said: “Everyone at Paces is so proud of Jack and everything he has achieved. The money he has raised from his beautiful creations will make a huge difference to our efforts to help even more children, adults and young people like him in the future. Thank you to him for his incredible efforts and his family for their continued support.” Paces has worked with individuals living with neurological conditions such as Cerebral Palsy, strokes, MS, Parkinson’s, and brain injuries since 1997. The school and charity teaches children life-changing skills using conductive education - such as sitting, standing, walking, speaking, communication and self-care - in an environment they can have fun, develop friendships, and feel like they belong.

Performed by a full live rock band and superb singers, complete with brilliant personalities and comedy value, this really is a night out unlike any other. With music from artists such as Queen, Dire Straits, David Bowie, Status Quo, Bryan Adams, Elton John, AC/DC,

I’ve also had the pleasure of working with a local builder on a project on Manchester Road in Deepcar. We’re working together to offer the lucky buyer a truly unique opportunity to have a huge amount of input, should they want it, on the fixtures and fittings, plus we’re also in talks with an amazing interior designer. The opportunity to purchase a detached, new-build home with the ability to add so much yourself I think is totally refreshing as a buyer. The property will have some fabulous features including off-road parking with a double car port, a further self contained flat on the lower level as well as an amazing balcony. How to beat Str8ts – Like Sudoku, no single number can repeat in any row or column. But... rows and columns are divided by black squares into compartments. Your Letters Choice and sovereignty In recent times there has been a great deal of public debate and discussion around the concepts of choice and sovereignty. As is often the case there generally seems to be more heat than light; a lot of talking about these “principles” without the necessary action to obtain a meaningful practical effect.

Ecclesfield & District Archive Launch ‘Life Through Lockdown’ Collection ‘Life Through Lockdown’ is now live on Ecclesfield & District Archive website, depicting how life changed within the Ecclesfield Parish area through lockdown due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
This diverse collection has been put together with help from our community living in the Parish Yours sincerely, and covers all aspects of life and how it changed Dave Hansell. through lockdown.
It is an extremely perverse behaviour on the part of those who make the most noise about “choice” and “sovereignty” to deny the ability of food consumers (ie all of us) to even know the country of origin on food labels to enable a meaningful “choice”; as well as putting British producers at an unfair disadvantage and forcing upon them the Green Belt questions “choice” of either going out of business or lowering Will Miriam Cates MP seek clarification from her standards to the detriment of consumers in a race Tory party regarding the new planning legislation to the bottom. which will take planning decisions out of local In such a scenario it is not difficult to envisage a government hands and the effect this will have bonanza for ferry companies in the not too distant on the Green Belt nationwide. People will look back on this time for generations to come, so Ecclesfield & District Archive have put together a collection of photographs and articles of such a momentous time. What is equally as valuable, is the wonderful descriptions of the photographs which were submitted, really evoking the feelings of how lockdown felt for most of us. Blackpool memories Parking around schools
Stocksbridge Town Council have received numerous complaints from local residents about inconsiderate parking around schools during school drop off/pick up times. These complaints relate to most of the schools in the area. Local residents are, on some occasions, being subject to verbal abuse when they approach parents/carers asking them to not block driveways etc. Some reports are stating that the issues result in a compromise of the safety of the children. The Town Council appeal to all who drive children to and from school to only make journeys in cars if necessary and to show consideration to local residents when dropping children off or collecting from school. Church lose out to penalty A FRUSTRATING week for Penistone Church saw them lose 2-1 to Albion Sports on the road last Wednesday and then have their game against Goole AFC postponed on Saturday. Church got off to a bad start in their game at Albion with Daniel Facey giving the home side the lead inside five minutes.

TIGERS SOCIALS CANCELLED TIGERS co-owner Peter Mole admits supporters have been dealt another blow with the cancellation of their upcoming STAARS gatherings.
But pub bosses were forced to pull the plug on the opener following the latest set of restrictions issued for the local area this week.
The social events, which see riders and management members interviewed at the New Barrack Tavern near Owlerton, were set to return on Thursday with further meetings pencilled in for the third Thursday of each month.
Said Mole: “It’s a massive shame because to some of our supporters, these STAARS events are an important part of their social life.

“A number of them were shielding earlier in the year and none of them have had the chance to meet up with their friends on the terraces this season. “So while numbers were going to be restricted, it was an ideal opportunity to be reunited and get talking about speedway again. “Each month’s meeting will now be assessed one step at a time but fingers crossed we can get everyone back together very soon.” Tigers bosses remain hopeful of keeping the same team for 2021 including triple World Champion Nicki Pedersen and Australian sensation Jack Holder.

Pic: Ian Revitt OUGHTIBRIDGE War Memorial Ladies quickly put last weeks defeat at Rotherham behind them with a dominant display against Woodlands Ladies from Derby with some slick attacking football setting up an afternoon of chances galore. Doubles from Milly Kenyon and the returning Codi Melia saw the hosts 4-0 up at the break and they each completed their hattricks in the second half to run out 6-0 winners in front of a bumper crowd.
Woodlands are dangerous going forward with the league’s leading scorer for the past few seasons Jody Scott leading the line. But a determined WM defence kept her quiet with Holly Towns picking up player of the match at left back. Oughtibridge face a long trip to Kettering Town this Sunday then host Leicester City on November 1.
WHEELERS HEGGIE AND MAYNE IN ACTION
Trevor Mayne ©Ian Chapman Photography
LAST weekend saw Wheelers Trevor Mayne and Paul Heggie travelling down to Newark for the postponed VTTA (Veteran Time Trials Association) 25 mile National Championships. On a cold day with little or no wind some fast times were expected on the A46 between Farndon and Cotgrave. 76 riders set off at one minute inter-
vals, Heggie starting at 2.04pm with Mayne 12 minutes later. Heggie finished in 1:03.36, setting a new club record for the distance at 67 years old, breaking his own 65 and 66 years old records in the process. Mayne was over six minutes quicker in 57.22 which saw him set a new club age record at 57 years old.
Due to the restrictions on maximum gatherings of six people the club have currently suspended their Sunday club rides. These will resume when government guidelines allow. More details on all the above can be found at http://www.birdwellwheelerscyclingclub.co.uk

ONE-OFF TRUNCE GOES AHEAD THE Trunce, like everything else, has been a victim of the pandemic. The full nine race series, usually every three weeks from end of March to early September, was cancelled and a lot of people missed the regular gatherings. For anyone not knowing what the Trunce is the event starts and finishes near the Wagon and Horses, Oxspring and covers around 6km (four miles) with about 180 metres (600 foot) of climb with four river crossings, only one on a bridge, the other three have stepping stones but most go through the water. With the limitations cast upon organisers with this year’s challenge nothing could happen. During August and September, one or two races were put together to relieve the frustrations people that enjoy the camaraderie of these type of races.
Local Sport
A socially distanced meeting, in the Smithy Arms, Oxspring, of the Trunce organisers, Nicky Spinks, Brent Lindsay and Andy Plummer, started to grow the possibility of a one off Trunce 2020.

Winter Season Starts at Stocksbridge
Danny Costelo
IT doesn’t seem long since Stocksbridge golfers were still competing in the 19/20 winter season, especially because the early part of this year’s summer season was curtailed by Covid 19.
But here we are with the full winter season now underway. The Dragon’s section started their Winter Cup last week and entered the second round on October 14. The Dragon’s Section is the biggest section in the golf club and

The directors of the club met earlier in the week and one of the key messages from the board meeting is the financial strength of the club. Despite the serious financial challenges the club has experienced because of the pandemic, Frank Milnes, Chairman of the Board of Directors, said, “the careful financial stewardship of the Club’s Treasurer, John Buxton, has been a key factor in the stability of the club. “We have done really well to grow our membership this year and the number of visitors to our friendly club has made a big contribution to keeping us financially stable. Obviously the pandemic will still be here for some time, but we are in a good position as a Club to come through it successfully.”

STEELS CRASH OUT OF TROPHY AFTER BEATING BELPER IT proved to be a mixed week for Stocksbridge Park Steels as they claimed their first home win of the season, edging out a 4-3 clash with Belper, before crashing out of the F.A. Trophy after a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Marske United.
Steels never looked in it during their Trophy tie, with Marske running away with it in the first half. Connor Smith scored the opening goal with a speculative effort before adding to his tally with a second where he ran through the Stocksbridge defence before finishing. Before the end of the first half, Glen Butterworth scored a great free kick to make it three and the game was truly killed off when Kevin Burgess headed in from a corner. Stocksbridge did get close to a consolation a number of times, notably when Pugh’s diving header went just wide and also when Scott Ruthven was just inches away from tapping in a great cross from Michael Trench.
Luke Mangham’s brace sealed three points againt Belper. Pic: Pete Revitt.
Stocksbridge Park Steels picked up their first home league win of the
season despite being behind three times in a 4-3 win over top of league Belper Town.
But there was much more to cheer about for Steels last Tuesday when Luke Mangham’s late brace saw them beat top of the league Belper. Stocksbridge went down early on due to Crouz scoring following up on a mistake made by Crosby. The Steels pegged Belper back when Joe Lumsden tapped in from close range but the visitors retook the lead in the second half through Sam Wright. Stocksbridge went level again when Josh Nodder’s deflected strike found its way in although once again Belper got the lead when former Steel Broadie Litchfield’s looping header went over Crosby. The turnaround came in two minutes as Luke Mangham headed in from a corner before getting the winner as he followed in when Kurtis Turner’s shot was initially saved.
