SINGING AND DANCING IN THE STREETS
A quiet Saturday afternoon in Stocksbridge, prior to the Euro final, was livened up with singing and dancing in the streets all in aid of charity. A group of fundraisers sang football songs in fancy dress in a precession from the Co-op on Manchester Road down to Fox Valley. Along the way they sang, danced, chanted and collected money for the Sheffield Children’s Hospital. Organiser Matt Howe told Look Local “I’m doing a John O’groats to Landsend walk to raise money for charity. I
keep doing random events along the way to help boost the total which currently stands in excess of £2k. The vindaloo train came as an idea Thursday morning after we beat Denmark in the Semis”
Over £200 was collected during the day and anyone wishing to help can donate through the following link https://gofund.me/ e6e60613 donations go to The Sheffield Children’s Hospital. The official video will go on Facebook on the Stocksbridge Community forum in due course.

MP hears a charity’s exciting plans for the future Penistone and Stocksbridge’s Member of Parliament has heard about the work of Paces, the leading specialist centre, charity and school for individuals with Cerebral Palsy and motor disorders based in north Sheffield, as well as about its exciting plans for the future. Miriam Cates MP visited the new headquarters of the charity at Smithy Wood in Chapeltown to officially open the new base for Paces Living Adult Services and the charity’s operational team. The 8,000 square foot facility, which has been fully refurbished, began welcoming adults in March moving from its former base at High Green. It will allow three-times as many adults to be supported with an improved space offering conductive education sessions that improve the mobility of those who have complex brain injuries – such as through a Stroke, Multiple Sclerosis or Parkinson’s. During the visit, the MP met with some of the adults supported by Paces, along with the charity’s Chief Executive Spencer Pitfield and Chair of Trustees Ann Menzies-Blythe. They also explained more about the plan, announced last month, to move Paces School - the special school for children aged 3-18, to a new base at Thorncliffe Hall allowing it to support more children and young people from across Sheffield, South Yorkshire and beyond.
Ann Menzies-Blythe, Chair of Trustees at Paces, said:
“We’re delighted that our Member of Parliament was able to visit, officially open our new building and see for herself the work we are so proud of at Paces. Our Smithy Wood base is already allowing us to support more adults with Cerebral Palsy and complex brain injuries and we will be expanding what we can offer in the months ahead. “It’s an exciting time for Paces School as well with our plans to move to Thorncliffe Hall and ensure we can provide our inspiring children, and the amazing teachers and staff who support them, with the best possible facilities – and allow us to support more in the future. “I am delighted that Miriam promised her support for our efforts, and look forward to working with her as we continue our development as one of the country’s leaders in using conductive education to nurture individuals and ensure they can reach their potential.” Miriam Cates, Member of Parliament for Penistone and Stocksbridge, said: “I was delighted to open the new Paces Living Adult Services centre and meet the team and their clients. The work they do is truly inspiring. Paces’ new school at Thorncliffe Hall will support so many more children and young people across our region with Cerebral Palsy and motor disorders.”

Active Minds aid Penistone FM have been awarded a grant of £8,583 from Penistone Area Council's Working Together Fund - Supporting Young People Grant.
The local community radio station have launched their new project 'Active Minds’ which will include delivering training to young people aged 16-25; the training will equip young people with skills around confidence building, using their voice and making new social and community connections. A spokesperson from Penistone FM said “During the lockdown earlier this year, we started to become increasingly concerned for some of our younger volunteers and their peers, who were experiencing an increased knock in confidence and low mood levels partly due to the pandemic. This is when we started to look at the possibility of cre-
ating a training course that would be similar to some of our previous courses we have run, not with the focus in creating ‘radio presenters’ but rather as a way of us helping rebuild the confidence and mental health of the young people in our community.
We believe the Coronavirus Pandemic will have had an impact on people in many different ways. In a YouGov survey of November 2020, 24% of adults said they experienced feelings of loneliness, levels of which were higher in young people, fulltime students, single parents and the young unemployed. A survey we carried out at the Youth Conference at Penistone Grammar School in November 2019, portrayed a similar picture with many local young people feeling under intense pressure, and we can only imagine the pandemic has exacerbated these problems.”
The training course is completely free, due to the funding from Penistone Area Council, and will run for 7 weeks at a time. Young people will get the chance to experience a professional radio studio and enjoy different elements of radio, from recording and editing audio to filming and making connections with local volunteer groups. The training course will also offer the opportunity for the trainees to take part in the Active Mind Podcast where they will be able to talk about personal challenges and everyday life for young people in South Yorkshire. Young people are invited from across the borough who have experienced poor mental health and/or a loss of confidence in the past year to get in contact to find out more information.
DOG BREEDER FINED FOR A SECOND TIME A Barnsley woman has been prosecuted at Sheffield Magistrates Court on Wednesday 7 July for breeding three litters of puppies without a licence, following an investigation by our Animal Health team. Lynn Everett, 65, of Eaden Crescent, Hoyland, pled guilty to breeding three litters of puppies within a 12-month period without a licence, for dogs she had bred between August and November 2019. This is an offence under the Animal Welfare Act 2006. She was fined £3,000, costs of £938 and a victim’s surcharge of £181, totalling £4,119. The court heard that she had been a breeder for 20 years and had good knowledge and experience, and there were no welfare issues raised with the breeding of the puppies. However, there had been a change in regulations, which Mrs Everett had not made herself aware of. This prosecution follows a previous conviction in 2017 where Mrs Everett was fined over £4,000.
Julia Burrows, Director of Public Health for Barnsley Council, said: “During the pandemic we have seen a rise in the number of unlicensed dog breeders. Anyone operating a business selling puppies for profit, when this involves the sale of more than two litters of puppies in any 12-month period, must hold a licence with us. “These licences are important to make sure dog welfare standards are met. This prosecution sends a clear message that any breeders attempting to sell puppies without a licence will face legal action.” If you’re buying a puppy, you should expect to see it in the breeder’s home with its mother. Check whether the breeder holds a valid licence. If you want to check whether a Barnsley breeder is licenced, you can email animalhealth@barnsley.gov.uk. You can also contact us via that email address if you are breeding puppies and want to check whether you need a licence.

Elsewhere, the city's health experts have been using the Beat the Street game to tour health centres, hospitals and community groups to spread the word about the importance of physical activity. In Sheffield, the scheme is brought to you by Move More, Sheffield City Council and local partners, delivered by Intelligent Health, with funding from the National Lottery and Sport England. The game has been played in more than 104 locations across the UK and beyond – however as well as the huge number of people playing in Sheffield, the game in the city has truly been embraced by primary care practitioners who have seen its potential as part of their social prescribing. One key strength of Beat the Street is that it is free and accessible. In Sheffield, 37% of the players who completed a pre-game health survey are from the areas of the city with the highest deprivation. To find out more about the Beat the Street game, including where to collect a card, visit www.beaththestreet.me/sheffield or follow on social media @BTSSheffield.

Stocksbridge Steelworks sale
In a joint statement from the National Trade Union Steel Coordinating Committee, Community, Unite and GMB - all of whom represent staff at the Stocksbridge site - the trade unions confirmed they had secured an agreement with Liberty to determine whether the firm’s “plans stack up and what they mean for the workforce”. The statement added: “This is an important development and we are pleased that Liberty has recognised the value of submitting their plans for independent review. The last few months have been full of worry and uncertainty for the workforce and we all have many unanswered questions. While we do not have the answers today, we now have a process to channel our questions and pursue our concerns.”
The announcement comes after a statement published by Liberty Steel confirmed it was “continuing to assess” a sale of the aerospace and special alloys steel business in Stockbridge. The move, the firm said, would allow it to “focus on developing” its Rotherham plant - including its low carbon emitting electric arc furnaces into a competitive two million tonne Greensteel plant.
jobs and the future of every UK site”. In the statement, they added: “We’ve all heard Sanjeev Gupta promising that none of our plants will close on his watch - and we will hold him to that commitment.”
Outlined by the group’s restructuring and transformation committee, the aim of the developments is to “pave the way” for a refinancing that will enable its parent company GFG Alliance to pay back creditors following the collapse of its main lender Greensill Capital.
Credit Strategy has reached out to both Syndex and Liberty Steel for comment. A spokesperson for Liberty Steel said: “Liberty Steel’s board and management are working with employees, and their representatives, suppliers, customers and others to secure a sustainable future for the UK businesses. One aspect of that work is recognising and utilising the value that Syndex - acting on behalf of trade unions - can bring to securing that future.”
The trade unions have however said that Liberty Steel must “first convince the workforce that their plans will secure

READING CHALLENGE
South Yorkshire Mayor says face masks should remain legal requirement in enclosed public spaces and on public transport Responding to the Prime Minister’s announcement that all restrictions will be lifted on July 19, including the legal requirement to wear masks in enclosed indoor spaces and public transport, Mayor Dan Jarvis said, “With Covid case numbers rising rapidly, I’m concerned now is not the time to drop the legal requirement to wear masks on public transport and in enclosed public spaces. If, as the Prime Minister says, it’s ‘expected and recommended’ that masks continue to be worn in certain situations, then it doesn’t make sense to change the law now. Public health officials have warned that making face coverings discretionary sends a confusing message to the public that masks are no longer necessary, and will result in fewer people wearing them. We wear masks to protect each other from the virus, and if only a few do it, then they will not have enough of an impact. This also puts people who work in health care, on public transport, or who can’t work from home in an even more vulnerable position than they already were. It’s clear that it should remain a legal requirement to wear face masks on public transport and in enclosed indoor spaces, and I strongly encourage everyone in South Yorkshire to continue to wear a mask, and to make sure they get vaccinated.”
The Sheffield Libraries Reading Challenge will be launching on Saturday 17th July! The reading challenge is designed to encourage children to keep reading over the summer holidays helping them to maintain and develop their reading skills and nurture a love of reading for pleasure. The Sheffield Reading Challenge will be available in all Sheffield Libraries and is suitable for children from birth to 11 years of age. The theme of the challenge is wild animals and wildlife. The Sheffield based award winning, bestselling illustrator Lydia Monks has created the colourful design for the challenge. It's free and easy to sign up to take part in the challenge, children just need to go along to their local library to register to take part. All children have to do is read four books of their choice over the summer
holidays, for each book that they read they will receive a sticker to add to their collector’s card. On completion they will receive a certificate and limited-edition pin badge. The children at Watercliffe Meadow Primary School were given a sneak preview of the challenge last week and were really excited about it and can’t wait to start! Councillor Alison Teal, Executive Member for Sustainable Neighbourhoods, Wellbeing, Parks and Leisure said: “We look forward to hearing about which books you have chosen and hope that you really enjoy your summer of reading. It’s so much fun getting into a story and a great feeling when the book is so good that you don’t want to put it down. We hope that you discover your own new favourite.”
England has an ‘unforgiveable’ NHS workforce crisis
Future patient safety in threat, BMA research finds
The number of doctors per 1,000 people in England is 25 years behind comparable European Union nations, which means an estimate of almost 50,000 extra doctors are needed to meet the country’s current healthcare challenges, the BMA has found.
whom are being stretched to the limit and forced to take on extra, often unpaid work to make up staffing gaps. The BMA also believes that England has nowhere near enough medical academics, public health doctors, or specialist occupational physicians, who play equally vital roles in the health service.
According to the Association’s research, there are 2.8 doctors – across general practice and hospitals - per 1,000 people in England compared to an average of 3.7 in similarly developed EU countries. Other than Poland, this means England has the second lowest doctor-to-person ratio than any other comparable EU nation.
To tackle this crisis, the Association is calling for:
The data shows that not one single area in England has 3.7 doctors per 1,000 people; the BMA estimates it’ll take until 2046 – 25 years – before the NHS has the number of practising doctors and doctors in training that it needs today to reach the current EU nations' average. Not only does this shortfall impact patient care and safety, but it also puts immense pressure on existing NHS staff, many of
• A duty for the Secretary of State in the Health and Care Bill to publish regular, detailed and publicly available health and care service workforce assessments which inform current and future recruitment needs • Increased Treasury investment into the medical workforce to fund increases in medical school, foundation programme and specialty training places, alongside investment in the staff and infrastructure to deliver this
• Investment in retention initiatives, including removing punitive pension taxation rules so older doctors can remain in work flexibly
Dr Ian Higginson, vice president of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine, said: “We’ve known for some time that we are understaffed, both in Emergency Medicine and across the NHS, and the BMA’s analysis lays bare the scale of the problem. Our own findings show that our staff are exhausted and near breaking point due to workload pressures – which were difficult enough before the pandemic. Sustained investment in the workforce is needed to relieve the burden on the staff we do have and to prevent more from leaving; a tired, overloaded workforce compromises patient safety. The Government must prioritise a viable workforce plan as a matter of urgency, and level us up with European nations.”

How to beat Str8ts – Like Sudoku, no single number can repeat in any row or column. But... rows and columns are divided by black squares into compartments. These QHHG WR EH ¿OOHG LQ ZLWK QXPEHUV WKDW complete a ‘straight’. A straight is a set of numbers with no gaps but can be in any order, eg [4,2,3,5]. Clues in black cells remove that number as an option in that row and column, and are not part of any straight. Glance at the solution to see how ‘straights’ are formed.

Emerging from Lockdown Since the easing of lockdown restrictions, the Stocksbridge Christian Centre like many organisations has begun restoring its activities and works of service to the community. This ‘Covid Year’ has been a difficult time, especially for those who have lost relatives and close friends. On Sunday 25 July at 3 PM, the church (on Cedar Road) will host a community memorial service for anyone (whether a member of the church or not ) to come
Since May, the church has been hosting many of its regular activities – Sunday worship (10:30 AM, also available live via Zoom), and the Boys’ and Girls’ Brigades (all school years, on Mondays and Wednesdays) and the youth club The Hanger (secondary school age, on Fridays). For times and details see the church’s website www.stocksbridgechristiancentre.com. The church also hosts the Cornerstone Café on Thursdays from 9 to 11:30 AM, and the Saturday Coffee Morning from 10 to 11:30 AM. Enquiries should be addressed to the Revd. James H. Grayson at j.h.grayson@sheffield. ac.uk or 07780 70-1116.

Education It is disappointing to read that the ability to retrieve data from graphs and tables and to think critically and make informed choices are regarded as university level skills. As Clair says these are extremely useful skills and it says a lot about our education in the U.K. that this is a story that has made the news. I hope Claire can persuade her colleagues across the college that these skills should be a basic part of all courses not just hers. Alistair Nicoll

FUNDRAISER TO What’s On... CLIMB MOUNT KILIMANJARO July
She's a young mum like me and our lives are so similar, we're the same age, our kids are similar ages and we really hit it off! We have so much in common. We ended up messaging each other every single day and I don't know what I would without my best bowelie buddy! We've only met twice, but it feels like we have known each other for years.
Rebecca Clark, 37, from Sheffield, was diagnosed with bowel cancer in January 2020, and to celebrate her remission of the disease, she is leading a team of people affected by bowel cancer to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in January 2022 to raise £10,000 for Bowel Cancer UK. Rebecca will be joined on the trip of a lifetime by her friend Emma Campbell, who she bonded with online after her bowel cancer diagnosis. Rebecca says: “Shortly after I was diagnosed with bowel cancer, I came across the most amazing cancer community on Instagram. A woman called Emma Campbell liked one of my posts and sent me a private message.
“We really wanted to do something amazing to raise money for Bowel Cancer UK. I've always dreamt of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, so I suggested this to Emma. She is just as crazy as me, so of course said she would love to do it too! We are travelling to Tanzania in January 2022 to complete the trek and hope to raise £10,000, which will cover the cost of the trip and donations to Bowel Cancer UK.” Rebecca was diagnosed with bowel cancer a few months after going back to work, after having her second child. She says “In September 2019, a few months after returning to work after maternity leave, I started to feel extremely tired and I noticed a change in my bowel habit – I needed to go to the toilet more often
and felt like I couldn't hold it sometimes. I was also starting to feel dizzy when I got up too fast and I'd lost a bit of weight. I just put it down to the stresses of going back to work and having two young children.”
After visiting her GP a few times, she was referred for a colonoscopy – a test that can diagnose bowel cancer, the UK’s second biggest cancer killer: “I went on my own to the hospital as I genuinely didn't believe it was going to be anything serious, nor did I have any sedation. I was in the waiting room for a long time. A lot of people were coming and going. Eventually they called me in, and the consultant explained what they had found and showed me pictures of the tumour. I could tell by the look on everyone's faces that it was bad.”
18 July, 10am-12.30pm, meet at either Long Lane Car Park or Rural Lane Car Park, www. walc.epizy.com to book a place. 21 Bolsterstone Archaeology and Heritage Group zoom talk on Wednesday 21 July at 7.30pm. Sam Bromage's talk is 'Conversion and continuance: the religious re-use of urban ex-monastic sites following the Dissolution.' Please contact bahgevent@axelafa.com to join the talk. 24 We are delighted to say that the regular SATURDAY coffee mornings can begin again in the upstairs lounge at the EPPiC Theatre, Ecclesfield S35 9TP Come and join us on SATURDAY 24th JULY 10am to 12noon and be sure of a very warm welcome!!
16 Music Makes Memories for B:friend The next Music Makes Memories is at 2pm on Friday, 16 July when we shall be raising awareness/funds for the fantastic charity, B:friend, which helps to combat/reduce loneliness and social isolation - https://www. letsbfriend.org.uk/ The event has once again been kindly sponsored by SOAR & People Keeping Well & poster sponsor, Norrie Waite Slater Solicitors. Rebecca has since had surgery and chemotherapy, and is making a good recovery. Rebecca says: “My family have coped amazingly well over the past year. FIRST PICTURES OF EXCLUSIVE 13-HOME DEVELOPMENT IN WHARNCLIFFE SIDE A developer has shared the first images of construction at a new development of family homes in Wharncliffe Side. Yorkshire housebuilder Erris Homes is currently building 13 brand new family homes on the site of the former Cloverleaf Car Sales on Main Road, with the first homeowners anticipated to move onto the development in autumn. The highly anticipated development, named Cloverleaf Court, comprises 12 semi-detached four-bedroom homes and one detached four-bedroom home. Erris Homes has shared images showing the progress on site since construction commenced last November, in which the foundations of 10 of the 13 homes are clearly visible.
*Terms and conditions apply. Please speak to a sales advisor for more information.
“We are very pleased with the layout and specification of the family homes available at Cloverleaf Court,” commented Erris Homes’ sales manager, Nick Ollis. “These images clearly show the tremendous outdoor space on offer to homeowners in the rear gardens, and they also demonstrate how the development will sit among neighbouring estates and the main road. I am very much looking forward to taking visitors for viewings around the homes once they are complete – the specification is truly outstanding, and the views will be fantastic!” Prices for a new home at Cloverleaf Court start from £330,000 and Erris Homes has partnered with renowned Sheffield estate agent Redbrik to pay the estate agent fees of would-be home movers on the development.

Church opener ends in defeat Penistone Church 0 - 1 Brighouse Town
Penistone Church commenced their pre-season preparations by entertaining Brighouse Town at The DSM Memorial Ground. Church started their friendly season against Brighouse Town on a warm but damp afternoon at The DSM Memorial ground in Penistone. There was a palpable sense of excitement in the crowd of 178, not only because “I’m just going to attack it with the same men- this was the first friendly of the season, but tality I’ve had all season and I should do my it was the day before England's historic first part for the team. ever Euro final. "It's an exciting time of the season and hope- Both teams started brightly, the perfect lookfully I can help the club kick on." ing pitch was slick with rain. Brighouse had Club co-promoter Damien Bates said: “We the first meaningful shot to the left of goal feel Josh deserves an opportunity with us and after 7 minutes. Church immediately gained it’s a surprise he’s not had a Premiership place a corner, the Brighouse keeper fumbled but then recovered. before. “As a club we would like to thank Justin for Church failed to clear their lines for a few his efforts and wish him well, we hope he gets phases but kept Brighouse at bay. Church another Premiership place soon. We just feel then broke into the away half, but Brighouse were immediately back on the attack. This was Josh is the better option for us at this time.” quality end-to-end play from both teams. "I’d like to think the extra bike time will do me good,” he said. “All I know is it doesn’t matter what you do if you do it all the time it becomes second nature.
15 minutes in, Brighouse worked the ball down the right resulting in a powerful shot that was deflected twice to the right of goal. The Brighouse corner was threatening, but came to nothing. Duncan Richards' longrange shot for Church was saved by the Brighouse goalie at the centre of the goal.

After 23 minutes Brighouse shot high over the goal. Duncan Richards picked up an injury trying to block this effort. James Young coming on in his place.
Half time - Church 0 Brighouse 1.
Church worked the ball down the right and Nicky Guest narrowly missed converting a difficult chance to the goalkeeper's right. Church started to find their feet at 35 minutes and a great cross from Nicky Guest was met with a difficult header from Luke Stewart that was saved. Only 3 minutes later Church conceded a free kick on the right, a curling powerful cross was too high for keeper Chris Snaith and Lawrence Surhaindho scored with a down-
39 minutes, Church 0 Brighouse 1. Brighouse took a long shot that hit the right hand post but they failed to convert the rebound.
The Second half started briskly with Church and Brighouse each creating a series of half chances. Nicky Guest had a low volley from 20 yards that went narrowly past the left hand post. Church and Brighouse each made 3 substitutions and the game opened up even more. Brighouse had pace to spare on the flanks. Church were able to find space in the middle. The match was finely balanced. However, no more goals were added in the second half and the visitors went away with the narrowest of victories.
s take ‘Stock ‘ in defeat Stockport Town 2-1 Stocksbridge Park Steels
Stocksbridge Park Steels were left frustrated as they lost 2-1 to Stockport Town in a preseason friendly, on Saturday. Town got the lead right from the off when their number 9 rounded Hall to score. Steels got an equaliser with a cool finish from Luke Mangham but Stockport got the win with a free header at the far post. It started off in the worst possible way for Stocksbridge. A long ball came over the top for the Stockport 9 to latch onto and he did his job perfectly, going past an onrushing Ed Hall and simply finishing to give the hosts the lead. But Stocksbridge weren’t behind for too long. The Steels pressed the Stockport defence and got their reward when Declan Slater won the ball. He then was able to evade a challenge and pass the ball to Mangham who was as cool as ice as he curled it past the keeper to equalise. It was an end to end game, though the better chances were going Stockport’s way. They made the most of an error from Oscar Seth to get the ball in a prime position, but Hall was alive to it and had come off his line to make sure it stayed level. They also came close when they sent a teasing ball across the box that only needed a tap to tuck it in but luckily for Stocksbridge, it past everyone and went wide. Stockport did get their goal though. They went down the left and and while the initial cross was blocked, they got another chance and chipped it across to the number 7 at the far post who was free to head it in. It could have got far worse. The Stockport 9 continued to cause issues for the Steels de-
fence and his square ball was perfect the oncoming striker but his strike was impressively saved by Hall. A similar chance was presented to Stockport not long after but this went worse for Town as after 9 played the ball across and past Hall, the striker scuffed and sent the ball wide, missing the open goal. Stocksbridge did grow more into the game as the first half progressed. Lewis Whitham was causing issues down the right wing for Stocksbridge and did have a shot that went wide after the defence was able to force him wide. Slater also went for glory when given the space, but that also went wide. So while Stocksbridge were getting better, they went into half time behind. The Steels came out of the traps early in the second half as they looked to get an equaliser. Just a minute in, Sam Finlaw’s powerful shot earned a corner after being blocked wide and Tom Whiting had a half chance with his shot being deflected over. Stocksbridge had most of the ball in the second half but were frustrated as they were prevented from creating clear cut opportunities. Stockport did a good job on blocking crosses and getting into position quickly to prevent any breaks from the Steels doing any real damage. There were some moments such as Scott Ruthven hitting over after being given a chance to control in the box and Lee Thompson’s powerful shot from wide being blocked, but nothing truly clear cut. In the end, that’s what made sure Stocksbridge were not able to travel back across the Pennines with a win. Steels next game is away this Saturday 17 July 1.30pm KO v Maltby MW

RUNNERS MAKE A SPLASH HINCHLIFFE FIRST VET AT THE TRUNCE Popular local trail race ‘The Trunce’ made a welcome return to the running calendar. The route starts and finishes in Oxspring and takes in some of the most challenging hills in the area including a run up towards Green Moor. First Penistone runner back was Phil Hinchliffe claiming fourth place overall and first over50 man. Phil completed the slightly revised 4 mile route in 31-04. Coming in just behind Phil in 5th and claiming first over40 man was Damian Kilpin in a time of 31-18. Other notable performances at the Trunce were Julie Darigala (first over50 lady 39-25), Ian Sutcliffe (first over60 man 35-43) and Keith Gordon (first over70 man 41-39). Junior members of Penistone were in action at the latest round of the junior English fell running championships in Bradwell. The standout performance of the day was Graihagh Turner who finished 2nd in the under15 girls category. On the road Julian William competed in the Ilkley Half Marathon finishing in a time of 1-36-34. A clutch of club records were broken at the third fixture of the Northern Athletics Track and Field League (Division East 2) at Newark. Malcolm Rose set an amazing time of 19-42 for 5,000 metres in the over65 men’s category. Hugh Mackie set men’s under20 records in the 100m (12.7), 200m (26.0), 800m (2-05) and 1500m (4-35).
