BUS STRIKE CONTINUES Community cheer - PAGE 02
The Unite union said more than 560 Stagecoach employees in Sheffield, Barnsley and Rotherham would go on strike until 18 December. The drivers walked out earlier this month and voted to extend the action after rejecting the latest pay offer. Stagecoach said it wanted to work with Unite to find a solution, and details of services would be on its website. The union said action would take place from Saturday until Friday 17 December in Barnsley, Rotherham, Dearne Valley and West Yorkshire. Drivers in Sheffield would strike from Sunday until Saturday 18 December.
Dedicated school bus services will not be affected. Phil Medlicott, managing director for Stagecoach Yorkshire, said: "We want to work together with the union to reach a solution.
"But any aspirations need to reflect the fact that passenger numbers on the country's bus networks remain significantly below pre-Covid levels. "Stagecoach has successfully agreed pay rises for thousands of other employees at depots across the country and we remain open to continuing discussions with the union." A spokesman for Unite said: "We have worked very hard to avoid this action and are extremely sorry for the disruption this will cause."

Magical community spirit Decorated tractors deliver Christmas cheer On Sunday 12th December a magical event took place. A real sense of community spirit was felt as 45 decorated tractors followed a route from Bradfield Dungworth Primary School through Dungworth Village, on to Stannington, Worrall, High Bradfield, round Dam Flask and finished at The Plough Inn at Low Bradfield. There was huge support from the participants who made wonderful efforts to decorate their tractors with bright lights, tinsel, trees and all things Christmas! The appreciation for all their hard work was shown by the cheering spectators who gathered along the route to watch
the fantastic procession. The PFA organised the event to raise money for Bradfield Dungworth Primary School. Due to the on-going pandemic, lots of fundraising events that would normally be held have been unable to go ahead. This opportunity to involve the local community and help get everyone feeling festive was welcome. The event has raised almost £1000. This money will go towards updating IT equipment and tablets for the children to use in lessons. If you would like to contribute to the PFA’s fundraising efforts then please use this link and donate! https://gofund. me/95f66859

BUS SERVICE REDUCED DUE TO ATTACKS Stagecoach announced its number seven service will not go beyond Southey Green Road after 6pm in the evening, writes the Sheffield Star. It means Parson Cross and Ecclesfield will no longer be on the route during the hours of darkness. It comes after a series of incidents which have seen hooligans throwing missiles at buses, which has caused damage to vehicles in recent weeks. Stagecoach said in a statement on Thursday afternoon: “Due to ongoing incidents of anti-social behaviour and vandalism, after approx 6pm each day, service 7 will terminate at Southey Green Road (Wordsworth Avenue Stop) until further notice. "Buses will therefore be unable to serve Parson Cross or Ecclesfield. “The last bus from Sheffield, Arundel Gate which will operate full route through to Ecclesfield will depart at 5.17pm 5.21pm Sat/4.52pm Sun). The last bus back from Ecclesfield to operate full route will be at 6.07pm (6.02pm Sat/5.25pm Sun)." Councillor Mike Chaplin, who represents Southey said: “It is a really sad time, and residents living in Parson Cross are going to be very disappointed.
"I will speak to the police to see what can be done. It’s totally wrong that bus drivers and passengers are harassed and attacked in this way. They shouldn’t have to put up with this, and I can understand where the drivers and bus company are coming from.” Councillor Alan Woodcock, who represents East Ecclesfield, was concerned residents would be losing out a bus route. "This will definitely have an adverse effect on residents,” he said. “I’m aware of the issues that they’ve been having there with people throwing things at buses, and it concerns me that it’s led to buses to Ecclesfield being cut.
The government has announced that England will move to new guidance in response to the risks of the Omicron variant. Face coverings From Friday 10 December Face coverings will be mandatory for most indoor public venues including: • Places of worship • Theatres and cinemas • In shops and on public transport. They are not mandatory in hospitality settings such as pubs, restaurants, or venues where it is not practical (such as when exercising). Working from home From Monday 13 December

Post-16 plans for School - Parents to have their say
"I know the police are aware of the situation, but they can’t be everywhere at once.” Nigel Eggleton, managing director at First South Yorkshire, warned last month he was concerned a driver or passenger could be hurt as a result of what he described as ‘continuous incidents’ on his firm’s 75 and 76 route. These have included objects being thrown at bus windows and laser pens being pointed at drivers’ faces whilst driving. Companies are working with police over the problem.

the plans to help shape the type of facilities and courses which could be offered.
Office workers and those who can work from home should do so if they can.
Parents and students are being invited to help shape the exciting proposals for a new Post-16 (6th form / for 17and 18-year-olds) hub at Stocksbridge High School.
NHS Covid Pass
A survey has been launched this week regarding the plans for modern Post-16 education provision and the type of courses students and parents would like to see being offered.
Towns Fund Board member Dave Cates, who has worked closely on the proposals for the new facility said: “All of our Towns Fund projects are focussed on being ambitious for the long-term prospects of the town and its people. Creating an exciting Post-16 learning environment and qualification opportunities for our young people, in exciting robust growth sectors such as technology and modern engineering that have huge demand for talent, is a significant part of that.
From Wednesday 15 December (subject to parliamentary approval) Certain venues and events will be required by law to check that all visitors aged 18 years or over are fully vaccinated, have proof of a negative test in the last 48 hours or have an exemption. You will need to show your pass, a negative test or proof of exemption to gain entry to: • Nightclubs • Unseated indoor events with 500 or more attendees • Unseated outdoor events with 4,000 or more attendees • Any event with 10,000 or more attendees.
Minerva Trust Learning Trust is working with the Stocksbridge Towns Fund Board on the project which would establish a satellite hub from Chapeltown Academy at Stocksbridge High School, delivering a range of A’ Level or equivalent courses in modern engineering and technology subjects. The plan to create a Post-16 Hub as part of the current school estate was one of the projects contained within the £24.1 million Stocksbridge Town Deal bid. The bid was approved by the Government in March 2021 to go through to the next stage, which is to develop the business case for the ten selected projects. At the recent open consultation sessions for the ambitious Towns Fund projects, held across Stocksbridge during October, residents widely supported a return of Post-16 and adult education in Stocksbridge. Now, current Stocksbridge High School students and families as well as parents and carers of children in local primary schools, are being invited to give their views on
“We want to ensure that the new facility helps delivers the skills that industry and our economy desperately needs and also aligns with the aspirations of pupils. Therefore, we really want to hear from students regarding their thoughts on this proposed project which would provide excellent Post-16 education.” Bev Matthews, CEO of Minerva Learning Trust, said: We have a great opportunity here, working with Chapeltown Academy to enhance the choices through to 18 for young people within Stocksbridge and the surrounding area. We hope that parents and students will take the opportunity to have their say about these exciting proposals.” If your children attend Stocksbridge High School, Chapeltown Academy, a local primary school or any other schools in the area you can take part in the survey here : https://sheffield.citizenspace.com/people-adults/post16-education-north-sheffield. Your views and feedback are essential to the planning of this provision.

SY politicians demand ‘fair share’ of funding for regeneration and growth Along with South Yorkshire council leaders and local MPs, Mayor Dan Jarvis has written to Michael Gove, the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities to demand that South Yorkshire get its fair share of regional funding for regeneration and economic growth. Recent analysis has shown the funding would equate to more than £900m in investment in South Yorkshire over seven years. The intervention comes after the government committed to match former EU funding for Cornwall, but not other English regions with similar rates of deprivation, including South Yorkshire. Mayor Dan Jarvis said: “I am not asking for special treatment for South Yorkshire, just that we get our fair share. “From next year, South Yorkshire would have got hundreds of millions of pounds more from EU funding, had that still been in place. The Prime Minister promised places like South Yorkshire would not lose out after Brexit. We are asking him to keep his word. “We have plans to build a stronger, greener and fairer economy, and we have proven we can deliver – we just need the right tools to do the job. The government should extend its commitment to funding all regions who now meet the criteria for increased funding, including South Yorkshire.” After Brexit, the government committed to match EU funds for less developed communities through its UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF). Cornwall is due to receive this funding in recognition of its rates of deprivation, but it’s emerged a number of other regions, including South Yorkshire, should qualify. The Autumn Statement stated that: “The Budget and Spending Review reaffirms that total funding through the UKSPF will at a minimum match the size of EU Funds in each nation and in Cornwall, each year.” As the only area of England to have been defined as a ‘less developed region’ in the 2014-2020 ESIF programme, Cornwall had a GDP per head below 75% of the EU average. However, research by the Industrial Communities Alliance (ICA) illustrates that after 2020, Tees Valley and Durham, South Yorkshire, and Lincolnshire all now fall below this threshold, with South Yorkshire’s GDP per head (70.3% of the UK average) being lower than Cornwall’s (70.9%).

Work well under way on historic Mill conversion WORK is now well under way on one of the most important phases of the Sky-House Co Oughtibridge Mill development. The Oughtibridge Mill development on the former British Tissues site at Oughtibridge - recently named Residential Development of the Year (fewer than 50 homes) at the Insider Yorkshire Property Industry Awards 2021 - features features 35 Sky-House properties. But unique to the site, which sits as part of a major new development by David Wilson, is the conversion of existing cottages into five further properties in the picturesque Don Valley setting. And the original mill buildings are being transformed into a mixed use food hall, community hub and leisure facility, with facilities for start up businesses too.
“The interest in this site has been enormous with more than 40 per cent now sold and we look forward to the former mill bringing a new dining experience to the north of Sheffield, serving what is set to become one of the city’s most ambitious residential developments,” said Sky-House Co co-founder David Cross.
mitted to Sheffield Council for a major new project at Egerton Street in the Devonshire Quarter of Sheffield City Centre. “The success of the Sky-House concept just continues to grow,” said David.
“It will be a fantastic community, family and social space that will be of benefit not only to the people on this site but also for the north of Sheffield as a whole.”
“Our Oughtibridge Mill site meets the enormous potential for growth in north Sheffield and is part of one of the most exciting developments this part of the city has seen in many generations.
The Sky-House version of the Victorian back-to-back house was created by the award-winning architects at Sheffield’s CODA Studios and is already well established at the Waverley redevelopment site between Sheffield and Rotherham, where a second phase of 44 homes is now under construction.
“We are now over 50 per cent sold across our three live developments at Waverley Phase 2, Fox Valley and here at Oughtibridge and we don’t even have a show home yet!”
Further Sky-House properties are currently reaching completion near Fox Valley at Stocksbridge, with plans currently sub-

Vince Eager – the British star that performed on the bill with Eddie Cochran and Gene Vincent on what’s now recognised as the country’s first ever rock’n’roll package tour – topped the bill at the launch party for a new book that chronicled the show and wider tour like never before. ‘Eddie Cochran: A Fast Moving Beat Show – The Story of the Final, Fatal UK Tour’ was launched in lockdown to huge critical acclaim and last week it finally got its launch party at a packed Hilltop Sports and Social Club. Sheffield star Richard Hawley – a contributor to the book and huge Cochran fan – made a surprise appearance. He joined house band Something Else, an act that included the books’ authors Adrian McKenna and John Firminger, for several numbers. The original tour performed to packed houses in the spring of 1960. It was put together by British promoter Larry Parnes. Tragically Eddie Cochran, the tour’s brightest star, died at 21 years old in

a road traffic accident just hours after the final date of the tour. But the seismic impact he made in those few short weeks provided a blueprint for everything that followed in the sixties. Adrian McKenna said: “We thought an in-depth look at that tour was something that was missing from the musical history books. Beatlemania and the Merseybeat sound might never have happened if it hadn’t been for the punishing schedule of dates Eddie Cochran undertook with fellow American star Gene Vincent and a cavalcade of rising UK stars.”

Eddie Cochran's influence is still as strong today as it was sixty years ago when the tour took place. The last word of the book is left to twice Mercury Prize-nominated Richard Hawley. He said: "Out of all those brilliant rockers from the '50s it was always going to be Eddie Cochran for me - he had the whole package. He was a fluent and inventive guitar player, a unique singer and a gifted songwriter." The book is available from www.dirtystopouts.com for £15.95

Success for Squash go young swimmers top of league Stocksbridge travelled to Abbeydale last Thursday for their eagerly awaited top of the table clash with the unbeaten team from the South West of Sheffield. Stocksbridge showed their title credentials with a dominant victory at the home of their 1st place rivals. For the fourth week running, each of the Stocksbridge players won their rubber to take home maximum points. This was just the result that Stocksbridge needed and the players were all very pleased with their efforts.
Mark Wingfield remains unbeaten and secured a comfortable 3-1 victory over his opponent. Aaron Alcock played a good young player from Abbeydale but his experience shone through as he claimed a 3-1 victory in a hard fought contest. That meant that Alex Timmins-Jones (pictured) & Ed Walker just needed 3 games to win the tie. They did better than that by dominating their opponents with 3-1 and 3-0 victories, respectively. Stocksbridge took the tie 3-16, moving them within 3 points of Abbeydale in
the table, with a game in hand. Stocksbridge travel to play Doncaster on 16th December, looking to move into 1st place over the Christmas break, with half of the season left to play. Stocksbridge Squash hold an open night on Thursday 7pm to 9pm at Stocksbridge Community Leisure Centre and new players are always welcome. It’s £3 for members and £4 for non-members.
Outdoor destination Stocksbridge Swimmers end the year on a high with County and Regional Success. After another challenging year of lockdowns and Covid restrictions, Stocksbridge Pentaqua Swimming Club is ending the year on a high after fantastic results at the recent Yorkshire Swimming Association (YSA) Winter Competition and the Swim England North East Open and Age Group Championships. Held for the first time in two years, the YSA Winter Competition took place over two weekends in October. Almost half of the club’s members qualified to swim which was a fantastic achievement since competitive galas had been disrupted for over a year. Of those who competed - which included six lower age group swimmers who were taking part in the county championships for the very first time - a total of 18 top-ten placings were achieved across all strokes by Ursula C, George T, Mateo M, Paddy N and Finley M. Only a matter of weeks later, Stocksbridge swimmers were back in the pool competing at a regional level at the Swim England North East Open and Age Group Championships. Twelve swimmers took part in the packed schedule of events which took place over one weekend at Ponds Forge International in Sheffield.
All swimmers achieved impressive times and lots of personal bests, and two swimmers secured four top-ten placings - Mateo M and Paddy N. A fantastic achievement was also made by Finley M who swam a brilliant time in the 50m breaststroke which secured him qualification for the Swim England National Winter Championships. Commenting on the swimmers success, Head Coach, David Wright said, “After another year of disruptions and restrictions, the results go to show what can be achieved with hard work and determination. Many of our swimmers have had their training time disrupted due to isolation rules, but they have continued to stay focused and always come back to the pool with a fighting spirit. As a small club, we are proud to have so many members achieving county and regional qualifying times; but to have swimmers achieving national qualifying times is really testament to everyone’s hard work.” To find out more about Stocksbridge Pentaqua Swimming Club including information on how to join, visit https://www.stocksbridgepentaqua. co.uk/
£200,000 has been committed by the council to progress redevelopment plans for the site of the former Ski village at Parkwood Springs. The funding will be used to carry out site investigation and assessment work and will inform plans for the site’s redevelopment as a major leisure attraction. Work will also begin on clearing some of the old ski village structures, debris and vegetation to make the site safe for future construction work. An ecological assessment will also be carried out to assess the potential impact of redevelopment on biodiversity and the local environment. Following the initial £200,000 funding provided, the council will be working with its partners in the region to se-
cure further funding for the redevelopment of the site. Parkwood’s popularity with walkers and cyclists and potential to play an important part in Sheffield’s reputation as the Outdoor City has long been recognised and the site has received significant interest as an exciting outdoor leisure destination. Skyline Luge, a New-Zealand based company which specialises in outdoor adventure experiences with sites across the world, has been developing proposals for a family orientated leisure destination on the site. The Council will continue discussions with Skyline to develop the proposals which fit with the city’s aspirations to be an Outdoor City, promoting health and well-being for visitors and local communities.

Heather commendably completed the route in just under 7 hours despite suffering from a recurring injury. During the week five Penistone runners had to don their headtorches to compete in the Hathersage night fell race, a five mile route taking place in the peak district in the dark. First back and just outside the top ten in 11th place was Daman Kilpin in 42-21, first lady back for Penistone was Sarah Walch in 52-08. Others competing were Dan Limb (27th, 4700), Steve Storey (109th, 67-24) and Mark Graham (110th, 68-04). Many Penistone runners took part in parkruns around the region. Poppy Tovey claimed first lady back at the Penistone parkrun in a time of 22-23. At the Brighouse parkrun Malcolm Rose set a new course record for the men’s over65 age category in 19-55. Jill Scrivens notched up the milestone of fifty parkruns after completing the Rotherham parkrun.

Church win 4 in a row
Rugby forced to forfeit fixture
A report by Martin Webb
Injuries and a lack of availability decimated the player roster, giving Stocksbridge Rugby no option other than to cancel the fixture at Rotherham Phoenix and forfeit the points.
Penistone Church 1-0 Sherwood Colliery
Church hosted this match on a soft pitch at the DSM Memorial Ground in Penistone. Their three successive wins away from home had lifted them to 7th in the table. Sherwood were undefeated in their last two matches and after a stellar start to their season, were in 4th place and 5 points ahead of Church. Sherwood started brightly and created an opening direct from the kick-off. Church managed to clear the danger. Both teams showed early promise with a couple of openings from wide play, but the deadlock would not be broken until midway through the second half. After a goalless first half, church were on the front foot right from the restart and had the ball in the box twice within a minute. They then pressed higher and a heavy aerial challenge created shouts for a penalty. The only goal of the game came when Church worked the ball from the back through the middle of the park. Jordan Coduri found Elliot Firth on the left, his low cross was laid off to Kieran Ryan who shot low to the right of the keeper.
Sherwood immediately pushed for an equaliser, but Church repeatedly broke up their play. When Sherwood got a shot on target, Chris Snaith saved well at the near post from a firm shot.
The Club hope to have some of their walking wounded back available for the final clash of 2021 against Hull based Hessle Rugby at Coal Pit Lane on Saturday, kick off 2.15pm.
This was an excellent result for Church, giving them their fourth win in a row. The cheer from the crowd of 216 at the end was partly in relief, but also to signal the significance of the win.
Prop James (knee), skipper Roles-Middlehurst (arm), back rowers Newton (arm) and Aspin (face) plus ‘clock tower’ Andy Beal (knee) all face a race against time to be passed fit for the weekend.
Manager Steve Lenthall told Look Local “A massive win today, one-nil against Sherwood Colliery.
Better news for the club is the return to training of giant 2nd rower ‘slammin’ Sam Whitaker however, he is unlikely to feature before the New Year as he continues his recovery with the Club’s medical department.
I thought the way we had to dig it out in the last ten minutes showed character and it showed what it was all about and that’s togetherness and making sure we all work for each other and dig in It was a great three points we have to say that that one is for Eric Maidl, we hope he’s feeling a lot better in his hospital bed an hopefully he’ll be home soon. We go on to AFC Mansfield next Saturday so Up the Church!”
MOTM: Danny Howes put in an impressive performance to help Church record their fourth successive win.
Meanwhile the Stocksbridge juniors have been impressing again, with Aaron Kaye and George Robins both being selected for the Yorkshire Rugby Academy, and will be looking forward to making their County debuts in the New Year some time. Saturday’s home game is the Christmas jumper fixture, and all supporters are asked to wear one in support of the Club’s charities.
Forthcoming Fixture: Saturday 18th Decv AFC Mansfield (h) KO 3pm
Holder to stay at Tigers
TOP Sheffield rider Jack Holder insists he never had thoughts of moving elsewhere next season.
Holder, who is on the substitutes list for the FIM Speedway Grand Prix in 2022, was unveiled as the number one for Sheffield last week. He became a big hit with fans in his 19 appearances for the club, scoring 217 points with an impressive average of 9.04. “I’m pleased to be back,” he said. “I was made really welcome last season, it’s a great
club with great people and the fans are brilliant.
“I never really had any thoughts about looking elsewhere because I was so happy there and I’m looking forward to getting back there next year. “The team looks great. We look strong but we know leagues aren’t won on paper, we have to do it out there on track. “I’m looking forward to another big year with Sheffield.”
Club co-promoter Peter Mole is delighted to see Holder teaming up with British Champion Adam Ellis at the top end of the team.
“I’m really happy with the team building at Sheffield and I’m really excited to see the riders signed getting out on track in a Tigers’ race jacket next March,” Mole said. “In Jack Holder and Adam Ellis we’ve got two riders who were excellent for Sheffield in 2021. “They’re already crowd favourites and for me they can only continue to improve.”
Mole will be present at the next STAARS meeting which takes place tonight (Thursday, December 9, 7pm) at the New Barrack Tavern on Penistone Road. “We’ll be discussing the team and there’ll be a quiz hosted by our track official Richard Gilson. “There’s the opportunity for supporters to purchase season tickets as well and it’s going to be good to have one final catch up before Christmas.”
Golfers do well at SY Comp Stocksbridge golfers fared well at a recent Sheffield Golfing Alliance competition. On the 7 December, 27 teams competed at Wheatley Golf Club in Doncaster. The Golfing Alliance was formed over 40 years ago to promote competitive winter golf across South Yorkshire, both amateur and professional. Several competitions are held, leading to a final that will take place at Doncaster Golf Club in February.
Three teams from Stockbsridge Golf Club took part in the four ball stableford format and did well to take 3rd and 4th place. Each team carded the best two scores per hole and with some excellent golfers in the field, including Nick Poppleton who competed in The Open this year, the Stocksbridge golfers did well to finish so highly. In fact, it was Nick
Poppleton's team that won the event with 83 points.
Three teams, including two of the Stocksbridge four balls, were three points behind with 80. Taking third place on countback were Liam and Liana O'Sullivan, Dave Buxton and Mick Hulbert. Taking fourth place, again on countback, were Trevor Moseley, Craig Batty, Peter Finney and Joe Sedgwick. The third team, that came further down the field, comprised of Eric Wilkinson, Richard Sheppard, Craig Brailsford and Phil Beaumont. All three teams did Stocksbridge proud, doing so well in such a competitive field. Back at the Golf Club, wet weather has limited the amount of competitive golf over the last week. The Gents Winter Cup did take place on 11 December and the scoring was excellent despite the wet and wintry condi-
tions. Eric Wilkinson (9) won the round with 41 points, his round including two birdies on the 4th and 17th. Club Vice-Captain, John Moss (21) also finished with 41 points, but lost out to Eric on countback. Three players then finished with 39 points, Eddie Smith (22), Mick Siddall (18) and Steven Haigh (14). Eddie took third place on countback. On the 12 December a smaller field took part in a Pro's Prize Stableford. Stuart Marsh (20) continued his recent good form by winning with 40 points. Mick Hulbert (11) was second with 37 points. Three players, Ben Stringer (1), Nick Broomhead (15) and Nick Wood (16), all finished on 36 points. Ben took third place on countback and his gross score was the best round of the day by far. 1 birdie and only two dropped shots demonstrated a consistently high level of golf from Ben.

Nodder strikes for Steels Stocksbridge PS 1-0 Osset United
Stocksbridge Park Steels picked up their first ever win over Ossett United after beating them 1-0. The only goal of the game came after 30 minutes when Josh Nodder beat his man and curled the ball past the goalkeeper. Ossett started off as the most lively side and looked to get an early goal. The Sheepicorns had only won once in their last six games and wanted to stop that bad run with a team they had beaten 3-0 earlier in the season. A Luke Hogg shot went tamely wide as they started off positively. After that, the Steels got more into the game and were having chances of their own. The first big moment went to Nodder when the ball bounced for him and he volleyed it over. The big chance came from Ossett themselves as Jack Cowgill’s backpass was too short and Luke Mangham looked to race onto it. Matuesz Zaniewski was quick to it as well in the Ossett goal and was able to save with his legs despite going out of the box. Mangham was very lively in the first half even if he was unable to get the goal. He reacted quickest when Nathaniel Crofts’ close range shot was saved but he couldn’t steer the ball towards goal. His towering header was on target but that was prevented by a diving save from Zaniewski who was impressing in this game.
Stocksbridge’s deserved goal came not long after. Crofts found Nodder on the right wing with a great crossfield ball. The winger was then able to control the ball, beat his man and then curl the ball right past the keeper to give the Steels the lead going into the second half. The Steels got the second half with a bang as they came close to adding a second with an almighty scramble causing plenty of panic in the Ossett box. The Sheepicorns just about managed to stop the likes of Crofts and Mangham scoring before Kurtis Turner drove a shot wide. It definitely should have been 2-0 not far after. Great work between Turner and Crofts sent Mangham racing through on goal to go oneon-one with the goalkeeper. His shot would beat Zaniewski but it would also beat the post and go wide. With Stocksbridge not being able to take their chances and kill the game off, there was some nerves Ossett might come back with an equaliser. There were definitely some scrambles in the box which caused the heart rate to peak but both Lee Cooksey and Reece Fielding were dominant on the ground and the air, clearing anything that was played into the box. It meant Ossett weren’t getting the clear cut chances needed to get the equaliser they wanted.
)6(&
There would be one final bout of nerves. In the final minute, Ossett got a free kick 30 yards out with Aaron Haswell looming over it. A previous free kick from him had not been too far away, with Ed Hall being forced to make a save from it. This time though, Haswell blared it over and the full time whistle was blown to confirm a big win for the Steels.
