Future engineers on right track after transport competition Students from Sheffield university in SustainaCity Racer challenge 22 students offered access to early career opportunities after the two-day virtual event Siemens has uncovered engineering, technology and business talent from Sheffield through a competition to design the smart and sustainable transport system of the future. SustainaCity Racer challenged 50 bright sparks from 15 universities across the UK, including the University of Sheffield, to design an intelligent, sustainable and interconnected network for a fictional city region, using a variety of transport types for citizens living in different environments. At the end of the two-day hackathon-style event 22 students and graduates were offered access to early career opportunities with Siemens’ Digital Industries, Smart Infrastructure, and Mobility businesses. They included Hannah Pope, studying Computer Science at the University of York, and Charuduth Bagha (Bsc in Computer Science), Boon Kean Teo (Msc in Electronics and Computer Engineering), Kacper Sikorski (MEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering) and Muktha Rajan (MSc in Data Science), who all study at the University of Sheffield. Charuduth, 20, said: “I really enjoyed working as a team with students from other universities that we were not acquainted with, and how the experience tested our leadership, teamwork and communication skills. We answered those challenges really well and the event was enriching for all of us. “I am really grateful to Siemens for giving me the opportunity to participate in the competition.”

Market to be restored after graffiti attack Penistone Market Barn will be restored this week following the graffiti attack.
January and re-open on Thursday 27 January, ready in time for trading.
In December last year, Penistone Market Barn has suffered from offensive graffiti, which had to be covered as soon as possible. The current paint was never meant to be a permanent fix, and we can now announce that the work will begin on the barn to restore this area. As part of the work, we will also be looking at futureproofing our Penistone Market Barn from any further attacks.
Cllr Tim Cheetham, Cabinet Spokesperson for Regeneration and Culture, said: “Let me start by saying that graffiti and hate speech will not be tolerated. There is no place for this type of behaviour in our borough. Barnsley is a welcoming and inclusive place, and such hateful language and vandalism are not what our town is about.
To allow for the work to be carried out, the barn will be cordoned off from Tuesday 25
“We would like to thank our residents for their patience, we want all our residents to benefit from a pleasant and enjoyable shopping experience in our markets, across the borough and our Principal Towns.”
Covid: Plan B restrictions lifted In response to the changes to Covid-19 guidance coming into effect this week, SY Mayor Dan Jarvis said: "From this week Government will remove all Plan B restrictions, including the legal requirement to wear a face covering on bus, tram, and train. "While COVID cases are declining, they remain very
high in our region at 1,030 per 100,000. Hospital admissions are around 21 per day, and there are currently 603 Covid-19 patients occupying hospital beds in South Yorkshire. Long Covid remains a real, but poorly understood concern, and the NHS is under greater pressure than ever. "We will continue a cautious approach on our pub-
lic transport network across South Yorkshire. While the government has removed the formal requirement to wear a face covering, in order to protect the NHS and everyone who relies on our public transport network we strongly encourage their continued use on busses, in our interchanges, and indeed any confined public space."

In 1976 school-leaver Ian Clancy learned his trade at a local doubleglazing company before making the leap two years later of going it alone. A young enthusiastic worker Ian was described as ‘always first on site and last on site’. It wasn’t long before the hard-working Ian bought his first and current premises on Manchester Road in Deepcar, and set up his own window company Deepcar. These premises are now home to a brand new showroom featuring the latest range of products, from tiled roof system conservatories to composite doors. Early success was to follow when in 1983 Ian was named winner of Yorkshire Televisions ‘Young Enterprise - Businessman of the year’ Ian still has the very first door made by Deepcar back in 1978. Still in perfect working order, the door sits proudly at the back of the showroom, illustrating Deepcar’s pride in their humble beginnings. Ian beams “ Our aim is the same today as it was back then - we will provide the best products and best customer service.” He continues “ In today's busy world we pride ourselves in looking after you the customer and will offer the same level of service whether you are having a new conservatory or a lock fixed on your window.

POLICE ADVICE:
• Keep front and back doors locked at all times and keep keys and valuables out of sight and reach from cat flaps, letterboxes and downstairs doors and windows • Close, and ideally lock, all windows when you're not in the room – approximately one in four burglaries in the county still happen because doors have been left unlocked or windows left open • If it's dark before you get home, use timer switches to turn on the lights – change the times that the lights come on, to create the illusion that someone is moving around inside the house. Plug-in dusk-to-dawn lights are also popular

Sheffield council ‘Chief’ on ‘paid leave’ apologising for hosting the gathering. A council spokesperson said Ms Josephs was now on "paid leave". Ms Josephs, who began her £190,000-a-year Sheffield role in January 2021, had repeatedly denied to local journalists that she had been involved in any Downing Street parties. Her statement said she had gathered with colleagues that were at work that day but it was later revealed an email was sent to 40 guests. Ms Josephs said she was "truly sorry" for joining the event, held while London was under Tier 3 rules.
A council boss who hosted a lockdown party in her old government job is on paid leave from her current role while an investigation takes place.
A cross-party Sheffield council committee has been set up to decide on what action, if any, to take according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
Sheffield chief executive Kate Josephs, who led the government's Covid-19 taskforce, had leaving drinks in the Cabinet Office in December 2020.
The committee began its work last week and is chaired by Cllr Julie Grocutt, with the following members: Cllr Penny Baker, Cllr Douglas Johnson, Cllr Shaf-
She went on annual leave last week after admitting and
faq Mohammed and Cllr Sioned-Mair Richards. It is proposed that the committee will meet again next week. Council Leader Terry Fox said it was "business as usual" although there were no details about whether anyone is standing in for the CEO role. He said: "I completely understand the strength of feeling that has been expressed in the city since Kate's statement and apology on January 14. "We have set up a committee to establish the facts of what has happened. While we cannot know how long it will take, we expect this to move at pace. I will be handing the process over to members of the panel, and we now need to let them carry out this work. The committee, which is made up of councillors and leaders from all major political parties, is not due to report back until after senior civil servant Sue Gray has completed her investigation.

New homes for barn owls On a crisp sunny day just before Christmas, the Sheffield Lakeland team from Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust, put up their first new barn owl box. A large oak tree in the Bradfield area, close to where barn owls have recently been seen, was carefully chosen for the location of nest box. It was attached around 5m up the tree, looking out across open countryside to give it the best chance of being seen by a flying barn owl looking for a place to nest. With more boxes planned to be put up before spring, the team and their volunteers will have a busy winter. This is just one of the projects being delivered by the Sheffield Lakeland Landscape Project, supported by the players of the National Lottery. The locations for each new box have been carefully se-
lected by volunteers, supported by our Nature Recovery Officer, Nicki Dyas. Nicki said “Last autumn our volunteers helped us conduct a barn owl habitat survey of the Sheffield Lakeland area, allowing us to map areas of suitable habitat and pin-point suitable trees for nest boxes. Putting up new nest boxes is just one part of our Supporting Species project in the Lakeland area”. The nest boxes for our project are being made by one of our volunteers, Philip. The boxes are specifically designed to attract barn owls that in the past would have nested in holes in trees or old barns. With a sharp decline in the number of mature trees with holes and accessible barns, putting up barn owl nest boxes can help to support local barn owl populations. They are deep
enough so that the owlets can’t fall out, and include features such as a platform for the young owls to hop onto whilst stretching their wings. There is also a hatch at the front so that the box can be cleaned out after the nesting season, sprucing up the accommodation ready to welcome the next barn owl family the following year. The Sheffield Lakeland team have been working closely with landowners and local groups in the Sheffield Lakeland area to maintain and increase the amount of ideal barn owl habitat and add to the number of possible nesting sites by getting permission to install new nest boxes. But we would love to hear from any other land/property owners within the Lakeland area who’d like to work with us and may have a suitable location for a barn owl box.

Investigating Officer, Jo Swift said: “Being the victim of a burglary can be a particularly traumatic experience. Burgess tricked his way into his victims’ homes where they should feel safe. “He stole £2,000 from his second victim – money she had been saving for a number of years. He even got her to make him a cup of tea whilst he deceived her, pretending to be helping with odd jobs.

to seven years “I would like to praise both victims in this case. Burgess has now been sentenced to a significant amount of time in prison where he will be able to reflect on his despicable actions.” The court heard how the two offences happened on Saturday 30 October 2021. Burgess firstly called at the door of an elderly woman (aged in her 70s) with dementia in the Stannington area. Arriving at 7.35am, he claimed he was there from the council to drill some holes. He went inside the property and into the bedroom before leaving. Nothing was actually taken in the incident, but when the victim’s family checked CCTV they called police and an investigation was launched in to the suspicious activity, treating it as an attempted burglary.
The second offence occurred at 8:25am when Burgess knocked at the door of a property in Hillsborough. Once again, Burgess claimed to be from the council and was there to cut the bushes at the front of the house.
After the victim (aged in her 60s) made him a cup of tea, Burgess explained he could fit some bolts to the back gate for £5. After going upstairs to get Burgess the money, the victim returned to find him in the living room. Burgess then once again distracted the woman by saying he needed some ladders. He then left via the gate, taking his cup of tea with him. During the investigation Burgess was recognised as being on the CCTV footage from the first incident. He was also on a tag at the time and
his movements that morning between both properties were able to be tracked.

He was arrested on 3 November and a search of his property found several items of clothing which appeared to match that in the CCTV footage.
“If you have a chain on the door then ensure it’s on if you don’t know who’s there. Genuine callers won’t try and pressure you to let them in to your house.
IO Jo Swift added: “Thankfully Burgess didn’t manage to take anything during the first incident. However the victim was suspicious and called a relative for advice who rightly thought it strange that council workers would be calling so early on a Saturday morning. “If someone calls at your door and they don’t have an appointment or you are not expecting a visit then please ask for their identification and take a good look at it. “If you have vulnerable relatives or neighbours then please do keep an eye out for them. Council crush ‘transit’ for illegally depositing rubbish This vehicle was seized using the enforcement team’s delegated powers as part of an investigation into environmental-related offences. A £300 fixed penalty notice was issued to the driver for not holding a valid waste carriers’ licence. The council is able to seize a vehicle for a range of reasons and If the registered person doesn’t claim the vehicle, the council can choose to sell or destroy it. In this case, the council crushed the vehicle as it was no longer road worthy, sending a strong message to anyone considering committing environmental offences.
Cllr Jenny Platts, Cabinet Spokesperson for Communities, said: “As part of our #EverybodyThink campaign we’ll continue to work with the police and the public to stamp out environmental crime and investigate those who are responsible taking action where necessary. “It’s completely unacceptable that a few people feel it is okay to illegally dump waste across our borough. If you choose to dump rubbish illegally and spoil the environment then you risk losing your vehicle permanently. You could also lose your driving licence and get a hefty fine in court.

Support for Boris
A letter for our MP
Dear Sir or Madam
I did previously enquire whether the towns fund allocation was used to pressure you into voting in Like most people in our country I have listened support of Owen Patterson even though he was to the news about Boris Johnson and other found to have acted corruptly. M.Ps Councillors, and high ranking officials breaking covid rules. I stand with the people in It now emerges that other Tory MPs have been their condemnation of such behaviour. However coerced in similar ways. I’ve become more and more disturbed by the unrelenting cries for dismissal, harsh consequences Can I suggest that rather than allowing this corrupt and the immediate removal of such people from and desperate government to bully anybody (Johnson was a bully at school and may have not their positions. developed beyond that stage) Have we now become a society that no longer can show mercy and grace to people who are sincerely You make it clear that any possibility of your sorry for their actions, who feel the weight of support depends on number 10 actually showing their failure? Can we no longer show compassion leadership on things that really matter. towards anyone who has made it clear that they Having just listened to Gordon Brown on BBC will change and do better. Can we no longer put Radio I think the most urgent issue this morning ourselves in their shoes and want to give them which you should be raising is the shocking scale another chance? of death in Afghanistan due to international I have needed much mercy and grace in my government paralysis . lifetime from my late husband, colleagues, friends Thank you and family. Without it my life would have been much the poorer and I may never have learnt the awesome transformation that can come when Compensation mercy and grace are given to those who fail. Yours sincerely
Looklocal, please end your obvious bias against Boris and his Government. Last week, three letters in condemnation of our Government, not even one in its support. To redress this bias, here is a letter supporting our wonderful Government. I don't care that Boris attended an alleged party outside in the garden of number 10. What l do care about is that during these Covid days Boris acquired millions of vaccines before any one in the Labour Party had even gave it a thought, no doubt saving hundreds of thousands of lives. Regarding the millions who had to isolate, Boris brought in the furlough, which paid them a wage, for staying at home. Boris also removed us from the constraints of the EU, which in effect saved us by allowing the Government to access the vaccine as an independent Country.
Re Starmer and the alleged party where he was photographed drinking alcohol, l don't care, Peter Morton Hindsight at its best. Regards Philip
I hope all those calling for the dismissal/resignation of M/s Josephs will happily contribute to the Maureen Greaves £300,000 or so that she will gain in compensation.
Rugby up for play-offs Last weekend’s results in the Yorkshire Division 4 North/East section means that Leeds Modernians will be the Round One opponents for Globe Holidays sponsored Stocksbridge Rugby this weekend at Coal Pit Lane with a 2.15pm kick off. Given the lack of game time and potential rustiness of the squad, skipper Adam Roles-Middlehurst has scheduled extra training sessions this week to ensure the team are ready for the physical challenges that lie ahead. ‘if form is anything to go on, we’re in pretty good shape’ said Roles-Middlehurst, ‘but I want us to be battle ready and have blown all the cobwebs away.

ing their number 1 player 3-0, with a heavy total points difference.
The team from Dore currently sit top of the league but Stocksbridge have beat them away and now at home following Thursday’s 13-6 victory.
In the game of the night, Alex Timmins-Jones pulled through to win a very close match 3-2, citing his new fitness regime as a major part in securing the victory.
Stocksbridge are second in the table having played two fewer games than Abbeydale.
Aaron Alcock, playing at 3, beat an experienced player and their number 1 from the previous match with a 3-1 win. Unfortunately, Mark Wingfield’s unbeaten record went this time, after going down 3-0 in hard fought contest.
The team is confident that they can overtake Abbeydale by winning those games in hand. Aaron Alcock who plays for Stocksbridge Squash says “We’re over halfway in the season and if we can maintain our form, we should be looking at promotion and hopefully, achieving this by finishing top of the league”. Thursday’s individual results saw Ed Walker maintain his unbeaten season by thrash-
Stocksbridge welcome Sheffield Medics from the University of Sheffield in their next match on 3rd February. We hold an open night on Thursday 7pm to 9pm at Stocksbridge Community Leisure Centre and new players are always welcome. It’s £3.50 for members and £4.50 for non-members.
Stocksbridge look like having a near full strength squad to select from this weekend, and the lads are eager to get back out onto the field. There has been a small Covid issue within the squad over the past week however, the club hope that this will not affect availability. There may well be some familiar faces amongst the players on show too this weekend when the Club’s Development XV take to the field to entertain local neighbours Wortley RUFC, again with a 2.15pm start at Coal Pit Lane. Entrance for both games is free.
Ravenfield C 4-3 Chapeltown RBL Following a late postponement from local rivals Renegade due to a covid outbreak in the camp, Chapeltown RBL arranged a last minute friendly against Rotherham side Ravenfield Cavaliers - only their second game in 7 weeks. RBL had to play with a bare 11 and found themselves 1-0 down after 15 minutes. Jacob Walkland then sent a dangerous free kick in to the box which found its way in via a Ravenfield defender. Ravenfield then took charge for the remainder of the first half and went in with a 4-1 lead at half time with some well taken goals.

Legion changed things around in the second half and started on the front foot. After good work from Denham Saxton, Morgan Cowell turned in the box well and fired home. Ben Stringer delivered several good balls in the box and Adam Todd was unlucky not to finish from a tight angle. Morgan Cowell was then brought down in the area and picked himself up to calmly score his second of the game. RBL pressed for an equaliser but ran out of time at the end. They return to league action next week against Sheaf House.
HMRC agree delay in tax return deadline HMRC has announced that late filing penalties will be waived for taxpayers that file their 2020-21 Self-Assessment returns by 28 February 2022. The due date of 31 January 2022 remains and HMRC is still encouraging taxpayers to try and meet this deadline. Taxpayers should also try and pay their tax bill by 31 January 2022 as interest will accrue from 1 February 2022 on any outstanding liabilities. Jan Hall, Director at Sheffield based C21 Chartered Accountants comments: “There had been concerns from Self-Assessment taxpayers and their agents for the government to soften its stance on late filing penalties in view of the continuing pandemic. The confirmation that no late filing penalty will be issued, giving one month’s grace has been broadly welcomed.” HMRC expects more than 12.2 million people to complete a Self-Assessment tax return for 2020-21 and almost 6.5 million returns have already been submitted. HMRC’s Deputy Chief Executive and Second Permanent Secretary, said: “We know the pressures individuals and businesses are again facing this year, due to the impacts of COVID-19. Our decision to waive penalties for one month for Self-Assessment taxpayers will give them extra time to meet their obligations without worrying about receiving a penalty.” There are also a number of options for taxpayers to defer payments due on 31 January 2022 and pay by instalments over 12 months. This includes using the self-serve Time to Pay facility online for debts up to £30,000 or by making an arrangement with HMRC. If you need assistance with your 2020-21 SelfAssessment, or with setting up a Time to Pay arrangement with HMRC, Jan and the team at C21 Chartered Accountants can be contacted on 0114 213 4730 or info@c21accountants.co.uk

Church slick way win erful low shot was punched into danger by Chris Snaith and Church scrambled the ball clear for a corner. The first goal of the game came on 25 minutes. Some close passing on the left touchline set Nathan Keightley free and his long cross from the left was met at the far post by Brad Kemp. Thackley 0 PCFC 1 Church continued to play simple passing football and Thackley looked a little slow to clear 2 successive corners. The second whistled over the bar from s Brett Lovell header.
Toolstation NCEL Premier Division Thackley 1-3 Penistone Church FC Brad Kemp 25, 43, Nathan Keightley 59 A report by Martin Webb Church travelled to Thackley who were yet to beat Church in the NCELP. Thackley had their last 2 games cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch and then fog. Church were looking to return to winning ways following their late defeat to Handsworth that ended a run of 6 consecutive wins. Church kicked off but, Thackley had the first opening after 2 minutes. Good defending took the sting off the ball and Chris Snaith saved. After 5 minutes Church conceded a disputed free kick on the left edge of the box. The pow-
Church made it two shortly before the break. A lightning quick break by Bradley Kemp exposed the keeper and he shot low and hard across the goal into the left of goal. Half time Thackley 0 PCFC 2 Church started the second half well and after 47 minutes they worked the ball down the right. A crisp Nathan Keightley shot from the edge of the box was tipped over for a corner. Thackley stuck to their tactic of playing the ball out from their own box. Church exploited this after 55 minutes with a high press and a series of one touch passes. Nathan Keightley shot narrowly wide across goal from the right. The result was put beyond doubt just before the hour mark. A beautiful ball out of defence found Ryan Johnson on the left, he found space and a series of passes across the box found Tom Charlesworth on the right. His diagonal ball to the 6 yard line found Nathan
Keightley, his deft touch beat the keeper to the left. Thackley 0 PCFC 3 Albert Ibrahimi grabbed a very late consolation from the penalty spot in the 90th minute. Full Time Thackley 1 PCFC 3 Church were delighted with this convincing away win. Their speed and accuracy of passing was the difference between the sides. Manager Steve Lenthall It was a good win for us today wining threeone away at Thackley. We said before we went out that we had to make a reaction from last week’s defeat to Handsworth, performance wise we didn’t have a lot to put right so it was just a case of going out, being disciplined, organised and making sure everybody was at the races. Also on Saturday 22nd January 2022
The Gents Section played a couple of Pro's Prize stableford competitions on 15 and 16 of January and for Stuart Marsh it was a great weekend of golf. Stuart, playing off a handicap of 20, won both competitions with great scores of 41 and 40 points. For both rounds Stuart played highly consistent golf and this
made him the clear winner on both days. On the 15th, Eddie Smith (23), Malcolm Ingles (18) and Dave Stringer (15) all finished with 38 points, to finish second, third and fourth respectively on countback. On the 16th, Malcolm Ingles (18) was again in a tie, this time with Nick Broomhead (15) with 39 points for second and third place. On this occasion Malcolm took second place on countback. The Dragons Section resumed its Winter Cup on the 19 January, with Mick Mosforth (26) from the Second Division the overall winner with 37 points. Bob Haythorne (17) from the First Division was second with 36 points, the same score as Charlie Dale (24), Ian Batty (16) and Stuart Roebuck (23), but taking the place on countback. On 22 January the Gents Section continued their Winter Cup competition. The latest

Golfers Beat the Winter Blues The post New Year weather hasn't been kind for the golfers at Stocksbridge, but over the last two weeks conditions have improved enough for winter competitions to resume. In fact, despite the cold and damp weather, the course at Stocksbridge is in excellent condition. In particular the greens are as true as in the summer time, just a little slower. The Greens staff continue to work hard to keep the course in top shape and the investments the Club has made in new cutting equipment have paid dividends.

round of the competition was won convincingly by Mick Siddall (18) with an impressive stableford score of 45 points, effectively playing to half his allotted handicap. Eddie Smith (23) continued his good form in second place with 42 points. Craig Batty (5) and Brian Dobb (17) both came in with 40 points, but Craig took third place on countback. There was also notable hole in one for Gary Finney (pictured) on the 17th hole. Gary also had two 2s on the 4th and 13th, in what was a very notable round. The Gents then competed for a Pro's Prize stableford on 23 January, with the Marsh family enjoying success again. This time it was Joe Marsh (21) who won convincingly with an excellent 44 points. Malcolm Ingles (18) continued his run of top three finishes with 43 points and
second place. Ryan Godfrey (10) and Paul Blake (8) both scored 40 points, with Ryan taking third place on countback. Finally, there have been a couple of Thursday 9-hole Pro's stablefords on the 13 and 20 January. John Slodyczak (5) triumphed on the 13th with 23 points, the same score as Roy Moffett (10), but winning on countback. Eddie Smith (11) was third with 21 points. Trevor Moseley (6) won on the 20th with 21 points. Craig Brailsford (9) and Eric Wilkinson (5) both scored 20 points, with Craig taking second on countback. As the Covid restrictions begin to ease the Golf Club is starting up a more active social calendar. The first event is on 26 February when the clubhouse will host Shades of Vinnie, starting at 8pm.

Steels late win over rivals Stocksbridge PS 2-1 Worksop Town
Stocksbridge Park Steels won 2-1 with a dramatic last minute winner against rivals Worksop Town.
GOAL: Luke Mangham wheels away in delight after tapping home the opener. Photo. Pete Revitt
Steels took the lead in the second half when Luke Mangham took advantage of a paralyzed defence to tap in at the far post. Worksop equalised through a Iyrwah Gooden header before Reece Fielding won the game with a calm finish in the 92nd minute. Luke Mangham nearly opened the scoring after only 10 seconds after dispossessing Worksop from the kick off but his shot was well saved by the former inter-
national Sebastian Malkowski at the near post. Just a few moments later, Nathaniel Crofts was also close but his shot with the keeper beaten was blocked by a defender. After a great start from Stocksbridge, Worksop did grow into the game and started to have more of the game and the ball. The former Steel Steven McDonnell was very lively throughout the game and forced Ed Hall into an impressive save while Hall had to be alert to stop Liam Hardy from finding the back of the net as well.
Crampton & Moore
Fielding had been a rock at the back but he was also lively at the other end. A corner was poorly cleared by Stocksbridge and it went to Fielding. He took a touch before striking but Malkowski was equal to it. This meant the game was goalless at half time.

In the second half, Stocksbridge were lucky when Worksop started just as well as the Steels did in the first half. They got an early corner and Daniel Burns was as close as you’d get when his header smashed off the underside of the bar. Somehow, Stocksbridge were able to keep it out and keep the game scoreless. Just a minute later though Crofts forced another good save from Malkowski as if to prove how end to end this game was.

Stocksbridge would get the lead though when a controversial referee decision worked in the home side’s favour. Jack Tinker made a bursting run with the ball which the Worksop defence couldn’t deal with. The way they dealt with it was to do a clothesline on Tinker inside the box. No penalty was given, though the Worksop defence thought one might be coming as they all stopped. Stocksbridge continued to play though and Josh Nodder whipped the ball in for Luke Mangham to finish at the far post to give the Steels the lead. Stocksbridge weren’t going to get the win easily though as Worksop were desperate to get an equaliser. They were chucking everything at Stocksbridge but a combination of Fielding, Cooksey and Hall were making sure they couldn’t breakthrough. Elliott Walker also had to be on hand to clear one off the line. Unfortunately if your attack gets hot enough, you can melt even the toughest of steel. A ball was whipped in from the left and debutant Gooden got enough space to head into the top corner. He had only signed that morning for Worksop and was already making himself a hero. This opened the game up and both teams chased a winner. It was truly end to end and neither side wanted to leave without a point. However the dramatic winner would come for Stocksbridge. Nodder showed excellent control to volley a cross into a box after the initial corner was cleared. It landed at Fielding’s feet but instead of snatching at like you’d expect a centre-back to do, he took a touch to get himself some space before hitting a finish a striker would be proud of. Worksop did push and try to ruin the party atmosphere that had enveloped the Eco Power Environmental Stadium but they couldn’t do it giving the Steels one of the most enjoyable wins of the season.
