COUNCIL TENANT LEFT DEVASTATED A council tenant in Deepcar was devastated to find out her belongings have been cleared out in an apparent council mix-up.

Maternity failings uncovered in Sheffield NHS trust

Claire Wall, 55, was shocked to find out her shed had been cleared out, with all her painting and decorating equipment, gardening tools and all her Christmas decorations gone. Claire claims the mix-up occurred after her neighbour in the adjoining flat passed away in February. She told Look Local “the council came out to clear out the flat but also managed to clear out my shed and all of its belongings” “I’ve been onto the council, and initially contacted them as far back as February 8, but they just keep passing me from one department to another” “I’m absolutely devastated and disgusted how they have treated me” Nearly two months on and a despondent Claire still hasn’t had a response from the council. “All I want is someone to take responsibility and have my stuff back”

Watchdog expresses concern over safety of mothers and babies days after damning Shrewsbury report The Care Quality Commission (CQC) found Sheffield teaching hospitals NHS foundation trust, one of the largest NHS trusts in England, had failed to make the required improvements to services when it visited in October and November, despite receiving previous warnings from the watchdog. As well as concerns across the wider trust, a focused inspection on maternity raised significant issues about the way its service is run. When it came to medical staff at the Sheffield trust, the “service did not have enough medical staff with the right qualifications, skills, and experience to keep women and babies safe from avoidable harm and to provide the right care and treatment”, the report said. The trust’s overall rating has been downgraded from “good” to “requires improvement”. Its chief executive, Kirsten Major, said she was “devastated” by the findings, and took them “extremely seriously”. She added: “We have already taken action that will help us improve, including recruiting over 500 new nurses who are now working on the wards, and there have been changes to our maternity services including investing in more midwives.”

Teenager Melissa has sights set on Korea A Burncross teenager is fundraising for the trip of a lifetime to a global Scouts gathering in South Korea. Melissa Wilson, 15, is a member of the Don District Explorers Scouts in Grenoside and she has been selected to represent the UK at the World Scout Jamboree in August 2023. Taking place every four years, in a different country each time, the educational event brings together more than 40,000 Scouts from all over the world. It aims to promote peace and mutual understanding, and to help youngsters develop leadership and life skills. Melissa must raise £3,800 for the 12-day trip to Saemanguem, and a proportion of the total raised by each attendee will be used to help fund places for youngsters from developing countries. Melissa, who is in year 11 at Ecclesfield School, said: “As soon as I heard about the Jamboree, I thought it would be really cool, and when I went to an information evening it seemed like an amazing opportunity. I’ve been to Spain and France before, but I’ve

never been out of Europe, so this feels like the trip of a lifetime. “I’m very excited to learn more about other countries, make new friends, and develop new skills that I can use in the future.” After her initial application to attend the Jamboree, Melissa took part in a ‘selection weekend’ at Hesley Wood in Chapeltown - and she found out she had been selected just before Christmas. She has since managed to raise almost £1000 through setting up tuck shops, holding a cake competition at school, and getting involved in fundraising events organised by her Scout Group. She has also set up a Go Fund Me page to collect donations from family and friends. Melissa added: “The fundraising target was quite nerve-wracking at first, but I’ve got more confidence now that I’ve started raising money and have a lot more events planned. I really appreciate everyone who has supported me so far. It’s hard asking for help and I’m really grateful.”

The proposal is to spend the money to build up to five new health centres in Sheffield bringing together GP practices and other services under one roof. Fifteen GP practices may be interested in relocating into the new buildings and if the plans go ahead, this will mean that their current site would close. The five health centres are proposed for three areas in the city. One in the city centre, two in the Shiregreeen, Firth Park, Southey Green and Parson Cross area, and two in the Burngreave, Pitsmoor, Firvale and Page Hall area. These parts of the city haven’t benefited from funding for GP build-

ings for many years, so many of the buildings need to modernise or are just not big enough to provide all the services that practices need to deliver medicine in 21st century. So far ideas for the health centres include pods where visitors can access online services, bigger and more clinical and interview rooms so practices can recruit more staff and offer more services such as mental health support, physiotherapy, blood tests, and minor surgery. The buildings will meet the highest environmental standards, use less energy, and have better lighting and ventilation, helping reduce the risk of infection. We want to hear public’s ideas too. The new health centres offer an opportunity to improve access to care for people in these areas and a better environment for the staff working there. These improvements would not all be possible simply by improving current premises. Dr Terry Hudsen, GP and Chair of NHS Sheffield CCG said, “The fund-

ing is fantastic news for the city and if the health centres are built, could see more than 100,000 patients benefitting from more modern health premises and joined-up services, improving access to a wide range of services. We have been offered a significant amount of money by the government and it is a great opportunity to improve health facilities for local people.”

The CCG wants people’s ideas and views on the possible locations and services that may be available in the new health centres. This is just the start of a conversation. The CCG and the GP practices will take on board people’s views to develop a business case for the current premises and health centres. Once the business case is ready, later of this year there will be a public consultation on the preferred way forward. You can have your say by filling in the online survey available on the CCG website here https://www.shef- On Saturday 14th May, Sarah and fieldccg.nhs.uk/get-involved/health- Jamie-Lee from Martyn Kemp Opticians, Stocksbridge will be centres.htm. participating in the Three Peaks Challenge.

UNIVERSITY TASTER EVENT

A free event for anyone 21 or over who is thinking about University study College student, Sophie Noble, spotted a gap in the accessory market and turned her entrepreneurial initiative into a business, Soph’s Ringss. At the age of 14, Sophie had attempted to secure a handful of part-time jobs but after being unsuccessful and always spotting gaps in the market for accessories such as tote bags and jewellery, she decided to launch her own Etsy shop selling music inspired merchandise. Sophie took the leap of faith whilst at school and has continued to grow her business while studying at Barnsley Sixth Form College with the help of iTrust, the College’s business start-up programme designed exclusively for students.

Sophie, who’s studying A Levels in Maths, Business and Sociology, said: “It all started when I was browsing for jewellery on Etsy a couple of years ago when I discovered a recurring gap in the market. I found that when businesses sold popstarinspired products to music fans, prices would double. As a fan of music myself, I felt I had a good understanding of what others might like so had thought about setting up on my own. “Last year, I was in my final year at school and homelearning was becoming really repetitive. School suggested we took a day off to learn something new so I decided to take that plunge I’d always thought of and set up my very own shop on Etsy.”

Since launching in 2021, Sophie has sold over 7,000 items and has begun working with iTrust to research alternative ways to grow and streamline the business. She has also worked with the team to spot areas for improvement, such as marketing and social media. Barnsley College’s Enterprise department is home to the iTrust initiative, a joint venture between the College, The Barnsley Chronicle and The Business Village, which supports students interested in starting up a business in Barnsley. Students who receive support from iTrust will have access to an array of information and guidance such as mentoring from industry specialists and local businesses and financial investments.

£100m for sports and leisure Following public consultation, Sheffield City Council has started work to develop its new Sport and Leisure Strategy for the City, that will see £100million of committed investment transforming services and facilities for people in Sheffield.

This week, Leader of the Council, agreed the themes that will act as a foundation for the new strategy. These themes will help guide service design and investment to ensure that indoor and outdoor sport and leisure facilities and services are modern, welcoming and inclusive, creating opportunities to encourage people to be more active, more often.

The themes incorporate priorities identified from consultation feedback and link closely with Sheffield’s Move More Plan, Sport England’s Uniting the Movement Strategy and with the Council’s wider strategic priorities. The six key themes are Investing in an Active Sheffield, Inspiring Sporting Achievement, Active Communities, Active Children and Young People, Active Environments, and Connecting Health and Wellbeing. Responses to the consultation, which took place at the beginning of this year, included more than two thousand people filling in surveys and more than three hundred taking part in targeted consultation sessions and focus groups. As part of targeted sessions with minority groups and those who face barriers to accessing facilities and services, feedback was gathered from disability groups, people with long term health conditions, children and young people, BAME communities, LGBTQ+ groups and women and girls’ groups. The consultation focused on people’s current views about sport, leisure and physical

Key findings of the consultation include prioritising investment in swimming facilities and outdoor spaces for getting active, and improved cycling and walking routes to enable active travel. People were also keen to see improved provision of swimming lessons, more co-located facilities in sport and leisure centres, and outdoor spaces with a range of facilities in all local areas. The target consultation provided a huge amount of feedback that will help the council design facilities and services for those who may face barriers to getting active, with low cost and local being particularly important to some groups. Sheffield City Council’s Sport, Leisure and Health Team worked with Sport and Leisure Consultancy (SLC), Proper Active and Sheffield Hallam University’s Sport Industry Research Group to deliver the consultation. Consultation was commissioned following the decision to invest £100 million into leisure and entertainment in Sheffield, which was approved by the council’s Cooperative Executive in November 2021. The detailed consultation report will be published in the coming months. After the launch of the strategy themes work on the 5-year implementation plan will begin and details will be shared in due course.

Food Bank Future Ronnie Hawley, who has been the hardworking leader of the Stocksbridge Food Bank for about 8 years now, with her husband Ray, has decided to retire at the end of May 2022. IKON and Christ Church want to re-assure users and the people of Stocksbridge, that the service will continue after that. And from June the Tuesday opening will re-commence.

activity, the impact of the pandemic, what would help them to be more active and where they would like to see investment.

The dedicated teams of volunteers will continue to serve as they have done and provide the existing service as required. And they would love to hear from anyone who would like to join them. Just one or two would be wonderful! Rev Ian Lucraft, the minister of Christ Church Stocksbridge said: “The town owes a debt of gratitude to Ronnie and Ray, and their team of volunteers, for all the effort they have put in over the last eight or nine years, and we wish Ray and Ronnie well in their retirement.” Ian also said “IKON and Christ Church have had recent discussions about how we can develop the Food Bank and build it into an exciting environmental project to address the issue of food surpluses in a broader way. The

issues around food surpluses and food waste, and food poverty are all linked, and we hope anyone with an interest in environmental change and justice will be excited by these proposals.” The plans involve taking on a rented shop in the town and setting up a service which allows anyone to buy recycled surplus food donated from the large supermarkets, at a modest cost, a sort of Community Shop, alongside the existing Food Bank service of donated food for those in desperate need. The team report that there are lots of such places in the country, and the need for them is growing. They want to make sure that the service is available in Stocksbridge. The proposal setting out initial thoughts on these ideas can be downloaded on the Christ Church website at: https://christchurchonline.org/community/stocksbridge-foodbank/ Consultation with funders and supporters has begun and there will be lot of work to do to deliver the project over the coming months. How to beat Str8ts – Like Sudoku, no single number can repeat in any row or column. But... rows and columns are divided by black squares into compartments. These QHHG WR EH ¿OOHG LQ ZLWK QXPEHUV WKDW complete a ‘straight’. A straight is a set of numbers with no gaps but can be in any order, eg [4,2,3,5]. Clues in black cells remove that number as an option in that row and column, and are not part of any straight. Glance at the solution to see how ‘straights’ are formed.

Sheffield swimmers prepare for British Swimming Championships The wait is over until one of the biggest events on the aquatic calendar as the British Swimming Championships returns to Ponds Forge International Sports Centre for the six-day meet which is taking place from 5th-10th April.

Renowned Sheffield swimmers, Jay Lelliott, Candice Hall, Sienna Robinson, Amber Keegan and Ashleigh Baillie are all training hard to get ready for this flagship domestic event

taking place in their hometown. This group of talented individuals who compete nationally, and some internationally, train with the City of Sheffield Swim Squad (COSSS), the top competitive swimming club in South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire and are all hoping for medal glory. Ponds Forge has witnessed many great sporting moments of the British Swimming Championships as it has hosted the

event several times before, starting in 1992 a year after hosting the aquatics events at the World Student Games and most recently in 2017.

Andrew Snelling, Chief Executive at Sheffield City Trust said: “We are absolutely delighted to be hosting the British Swimming Championships and have this world class sporting event back in Sheffield.

“We are able to host an event of this scale as Ponds Forge is one of only a handful of leisure centres that has a 50m Olympic sized competition pool and as a result we welcome over 850,000 visitors to Sheffield each year, with our comprehensive event programme generating over £10m per year to the local economy.” Mike Taylor, Head Coach at COSSS said:” We are really looking forward to the commonwealth trials at Ponds Forge and we feel at our best due to the meet being on home turf. “We are really excited to see what the athletes can achieve over the coming weeks, they are a credit to themselves, the club and the city.” With the 2020 Championships being cancelled due to the pandemic it is an exciting time for the swimmers and for the swimming club as this year also sees the largest squad that COSSS have ever sent to the British Championships. John Hewitt, Chairman of COSSS said: “With over 53 swimmers qualifying at our home pool it will be great to see them in action, they have had a difficult few years and it will be a great opportunity for them to compete against the best in the country.” Olympic champion Adam Peaty will be returning to Ponds Forge where he took two gold medals in 2017 and has already posted to his social channels that he will be racing Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday at Ponds Forge. He will be joined by with Olympic medallists James Guy, and Duncan Scott who will also be competing in the event.

Gardening Feature

PLANTS THAT MAKE YOU SMILE The garden really comes alive in April and the number of tasks to be carried out is considerable. Making the best use of the lengthening days is a bonus and, providing the weather stays fair, it can be a brilliant gardening month. In addition to dead-heading spring bulbs, now is the time to get planting so why not think about one or two new additions to your garden that will make you feel really happy.

www.taylor-made-gardens.com

The sites in Deepcar and High Green currently both close for two days a week, however a Labour budget amendment secured additional resources to open these sites for longer. From April 11th all of the city’s Household Waste Recycling Centres will be open for 7 days a week and will be open for two hours a day longer, from tomorrow 9.30am – 5.30pm, during the Spring and Summer months.

• Climbing Jasmine – can be highly scented, with varieties that flower in summer and and winter. All produce pretty flowers and are fairly easy to grow against walls or up trellis. If you want to make the kids happy then there are some fun options for them to plant such as Sunflowers, Snap Dragons and the Four O’Clock Flower. • The Sunflower is a real family favourite. If you look at a sunflower, you can’t help but smile. Not only does it remind us of the sun, but its head will track the sun through the sky, and wherever the light is a sunflower will find it.

• Lily of the Valley – can be planted in borders or underneath a tree and they are very low maintenance and easy to grow. They make good ground cover for shady spots and are beautifully fragrant with creamy white bell-shaped nodding flowers. • Sweet Pea - available in a huge variety of bright and pastel colours with frilly, delicate and often sweetly fragrant flower heads. They work well in a sunny or partially shaded area in fertile well-drained soil.

Waste Recycling sites in Deepcar and High Green to open seven days a week! The Council’s Household Waste Recycling Centres are to open seven days a week, and for longer.

A survey carried out at the Chelsea Flower Show identified the top three plants in the UK that are most likely to put a smile on your face – Lily of the Valley, Sweet Pea and Jasmine - so they might make good additions to you garden this year.

‘Dump-it’ sites open longer

• Snapdragons are great because they come in a variety of colours and sizes, and also you can pinch the blossoms so they open and shut just like a dragon’s mouth. Snapdragon flowers are specifically designed for bumblebees, which are just the right weight to trip the opening mechanism of the lower lip of the flower to gain access to the nectar. • The Four O’Clock Flower, also known as the Marvel of Peru, is a bushy plant with trumpet-shaped flowers in shades of pink, yellow or white. The fragrant flowers don’t open until late afternoon, around four o’clock – so good for telling the time. If you are growing your own veg then now is a good time to start sowing tomatoes, so you can enjoy them throughout the summer. To grow tomatoes successfully, you need rich, fertile soil or peat-free potting compost, and a good sunny, sheltered spot. Water regularly and feed regularly once the plants start to flower. Tomatoes are split into two main growing types - bush and cordon. Bush types are usually planted in containers and their stems trail around the edge. Cordon types are trained to grow tall and are supported by a cane or stake and will require pinching out. Growing tomatoes from seed is best done under cover, into seed trays, then when the seedlings get to 2-3cm tall transplant to small 5cm pots. Keep potting on as they grow in size. They can be planted outside with cane supports once the last frosts have gone, so around May time. For best results, choose trusted varieties like Gardener's Delight, Money Maker or Sweet Olive. As usual, April really kick starts the gardening season. As the RHS says … Spring is finally in evidence as daffodils and flowering trees start to bloom. Expect the inevitable April showers this month but with sunny days too, when you can turn your attention to the lawn. It's an exciting month, with indoor-sown seeds well into growth, and it's also time to start sowing outdoors. Just watch out for frosts. Top three jobs this month – sow hardy annuals, herbs and wildflower seed outside; protect fruit blossoms from late frost; and tie in climbing and rambling roses.

The increases in National Insurance Contributions (NIC) of 1.25%, first announced last year, will take effect from April 2022. These increases will be ring-fenced to provide funding for the NHS, health and social care. The increases will apply to: • Employees above the primary and secondary thresholds. This is the NIC that is deducted from your earnings by your employer. • Employers. Your bosses NIC contributions are paid as part of the regular PAYE/NIC payments unless they are covered by the present £4,000 employment allowance. • People who are Self-Employed. These contributions are added to your annual Self-Assessment statement if you are Self-Employed. All existing NICs reliefs to support employers will continue to apply. In addition to the employment allowance, this includes the following: •

employees under the age of 21

apprentices under the age of 25

qualifying Freeport employees

armed forces veterans

Jan Hall, Director at C21 Chartered Accountants in Sheffield comments: “The increases in NIC will mean that many of us will see our take home wages go down in April. Also, for those who run companies and have employees, employers should ensure that they are prepared for the increase as these changes will increase wage costs from April 2022. “From April 2023, these increases will be incorporated into a new Levy. The Levy will be administered by HMRC and collected by the current channels for NICs – Pay As You Earn and Income Tax Self-Assessment. “However, with the other increases in cost of living at present, there has been significant political pressure in parliament to cancel this increase. If this challenge results in the withdrawal of the 1.25% increase, it will be interesting how further changes may occur.” If the increases in NIC will have an effect on you as an individual, or as an employer, and you need further financial advice, contact the team at C21 Chartered Accountants on 0114 213 4730 or info@c21accountants.co.uk

Andrew Pearson powering towards a Penistone club record at the Manchester Marathon.(Pic by Tracey Hughes)

The Manchester Marathon proved to be a successful event for several members of Penistone Footpath Runners and AC. The race, which, due to the London Marathon being moved to the autumn for 2022, is spring's premier UK marathon race, saw several fine performances from club members. Andrew Pearson, running as an England Athletics Masters athlete, ran an outstanding race to finish in 2:50.32. Remarkably he had gone through halfway in 1:25.16, recording a perfect even split. His time also broke the previous club record for the V55 category. He was closely followed by V50 runner Matthew Robinson, who crossed the line in a superb 2:51.37. Ian Sutcliffe was another who broke a club age category record, finishing in a time of 3:24.52 to set a new V60 mark. Suzanne McGill (F45) ran an excellent and well-judged debut marathon to finish with a time of 3:30.15. Richard Cottam finished with 3:51.02 and Michael Walsh in 3:59.47. Elsewhere young Tom Fryers finished an outstanding second place in the first race of the 2022 Trunce series. John Broom

could see their season going down the pan. Church pushed up the pitch and had Eccleshill under pressure. Eccleshill then kept Church penned in for a few passages of play. With 90 minutes gone, Church again were in the Eccleshill box, but a foul by Church ended the move. Full Time PCFC 2 Eccleshill 2 Honours even at the end was about fair, but on most other days Church would have won this game. Eccleshill still have their destiny in their own hands but their second half performance did them no favours, Church ruthlessly exploited their defensive mistakes. Vice-captain Brett Lovell

A report by Martin Webb A few flakes of snow circled the ground at kick off. Eccleshill conceded possession and Church played a relaxed style of fluid passing. Eccleshill also played a neat brand of football, and lead 2-0 at the break. PCFC 0 Eccleshill 2 Half time PCFC 0 Eccleshill 2 However, Church were not out of the game just yet and pressed high in the early minutes of the second half, a corner resulted from this hard work. Goal 51 minutes. A corner from the right beyond the far post was headed in by Brett Lovell. PCFC 1 Eccleshill 2 Church began to put the pressure on and again won a corner. Wayne Hughes headed narrowly over from 8 yards. Eccleshill responded with a couple of their own chances, but poor finishing let them down. Church's Nathan Keightley had a great run from the half way line, but the keeper made a great save from the cross-come shot. Goal 69 minutes.

It was a good game today at the DSM against Eccleshill, it was important for us to continue our recent good form from our draw at Garforth and our midweek win in the quarter final of the cup. I thought we played well first half, people will look at the score line at half time and think that we hadn’t had a good first half, we did, but two individual errors or two team errors cost us a couple of goals but what I will say about the second goal today is the ruling on people who have gone off for treatment is that they can’t enter the pitch until the ball is back in play. The referee allowed their lad to come back on when the throw-in was just about to be taken, he’s received the ball, passed it to his team mate who’s crossed it and they’ve scored from it. You can look at that and say we should have defended it better and possibly we should have but in the laws of the game that goal really shouldn’t have stood so we should have been going in onenil but we went in two-nil at half time.

The Tru Plant Tigers produced a stubborn display in the West Midlands to earn another two point victory in their Northern Group, just as they did at Belle Vue a week ago. And just as he did in Manchester seven days previous, it was reigning British Champion Adam Ellis who came up with a big ride in the final race to secure the points. With Wolverhampton on a 5-1 and a first ever ‘superheat’ decider on the cards, Ellis rounded home man Nick Morris to deny the hosts. It was an exciting finish to a tight tussle in the Black Country with no more than four points ever separating the two sides. Ellis top scored with 11 with Tobiasz Musielak also scoring double figures on his Tigers debut. The Pole went unbeaten in his first three rides and formed an early, solid partnership with club captain Kyle Howarth who enjoyed a solid night’s work against his former employers. Jack Holder chipped in with six important points while winter signing Craig Cook recovered from an opening ride time exclusion to notch a race win on his way to paid seven. Stefan Nielsen claimed an important Heat Two triumph whilst fellow reserve Connor Mountain plugged away for four crucial third place points. Team boss Simon Stead said: “What was nice tonight was that we had seven fit riders for the first time and they all did their bit.

Kick off 7-45 pm

“They all pulled together as a team, they rode well together, the team atmosphere was great and they were all pleased that we got the result we wanted and got the job done. “We just kept chipping away and it was back and forth, back and forth and every time it swung one way it did swing the other. “But I always felt with the team that we’ve got that we’d have enough in the tank.” Sheffield will be looking to continue their impressive start to the season when they race in front of their home supporters for the first time this Thursday (April 7, 7.30).

The Tru Plant Tigers face fierce rivals Belle Vue as they aim to maintain their unbeaten record so far. WOLVERHAMPTON 44: Ryan Douglas 10+1, Nick Morris 10, Sam Masters 8+1, Luke Becker 7+1, Steve Worrall 4, Leon Flint 3, Drew Kemp 2. SHEFFIELD 46: Adam Ellis 11, Tobiasz Musielak 10+1, Kyle Howarth 7+1, Jack Holder 6, Craig Cook 5+2, Connor Mountain 4+1, Stefan Nielsen 3.

STEEL 5 STAR SHOW Stocksbridge PS Dunston

Stocksbridge Park Steels ended their home campaign with a big 5-2 win over play-off chasing Dunston.

5 2

Steels took the lead in the first half with a long range effort from Nathaniel Crofts. They doubled their lead with Rob Ludlam’s header from a corner kick. Dunston got one back through a good strike from Michael Fowler but Nick Guest instantly replied with a tidy finish. Josh Nodder scored an audacious volley to make it four, and two penalties later Dunston had one back when Phillip Turnbull converted from the spot. The win was sealed with Alex O’Connor scoring after making the most of a goalkeeping error.

Report by: Adam Allcroft Photo by: Pete Revitt

Very little happened in the early parts of the match with perhaps Dunston edging the game. They did have more of the possession at the very least. The biggest opportunity on goal was when Dunston had a free kick close to the edge of the box but Phillip Turnbull hit that set piece into the wall. A swift counter attack saw Steels take the lead. The ball fell to Crofts and while he could have advanced it forward, he

instead had a go from 25-yards and Lee Connell had little chance of making a save from the impressive strike which would soon burst his net and give Stocksbridge the lead.

While Dunston probably had more of the ball for the rest of the first half, it was Stocksbridge who looked more likely to score. Luke Mangham will have been cursing himself when he skewed a shot wide from inside the box when it fell favourably to him. Jordan Lemon’s ball into the box, which did feel like it was going to be a shot until it started going well wide, was headed back into the danger zone by Mangham only for Connell to claim well and make sure the Steels lead was only 1-0 at half time. Stocksbridge got off to the best possible start in the second half. Steel’s attack had been fairly calamitous in the buildup with miskicks galore but it did earn them a corner. The corner was sent in and flicked on by Mangham at the near post for Ludlam to head in his first ever Stocksbridge goal. With his son as the mascot for the day, it was the perfect time

to finally get on the scoresheet for the Steels. Dunston did soon have one back through. They had been struggling to break through the back four so Fowler instead decided to have a go from just outside the area. His shot curled away from an unsighted Michael Roxburgh and the North East side were back in the game. But they weren’t back in it for very long. Stocksbridge were immediately back on it and Guest was able to break through to go one-on-one on goal. When getting into the box, he did instead went for trickery rather than power as he sent an accurate finish past Connell at his near post, scoring his first goal for the club on his first start. Guest would be a constant problem for Dunston as his confidence helped him get closer and closer to a second goal. First, he was prevented from doubling his tally when his header was well saved by Connell. Then, he would go clear once again and tried a very audacious lob only for that one to go well over.
