Decision on Wood Royd Road Development Deferred Sheffield’s Planning Committee has deferred an application to build up to 41 houses off Wood Royd Road due to concerns over flooding and highway safety. The application will now go to a future Planning and Highways Committee where a final decision is expected to be made. The Wood Royd Road planning application was submitted in February, although the plans are similar to a previous planning application on Wood Royd Road that was rejected in 2021. The new plans were objected to by 80 members of the public and local councillors, as well as Stocksbridge Town Council. At Sheffield City Council’s Planning and Highways Committee on 8 November, City Councillor Lewis Chinchen, Town Councillor Mark Whittaker and local residents spoke in objection to the plans, citing concerns over highway safety, flooding, loss of green space, harm to local wildlife and boundary issues.

Man to stand trial accused of murder of FedEx worker over 'pay disagreement' A man is to stand trial accused of the murder of a man who was killed at a FedEx depot in Rotherham, writes Sophie Corcoran for Yorkshire Live.
Concerns were also expressed by members of the Planning Committee, particularly regarding flooding and highway safety, although councillors felt they did not have the clarity needed on these issues to make an informed decision. The decision was therefore made to defer the application to give members the opportunity to ask questions to experts on flooding and highways. Lewis Chinchen, Conservative Councillor for Stocksbridge and Upper Don, said after the meeting: “The new plans for this site do not sufficiently deal with the reasons why it was rejected in 2021. Myself and many local residents still have serious concerns about highway safety, flooding and the loss of yet another green space. I am glad that the Planning Committee has recognised our concerns, however I hope members will reject it when the application returns for a final decision.” A date for when the application will go before the Planning Committee again is yet to be confirmed.

Roland Sekanjako, 48, made his first appearance at Sheffield Crown Court on Monday charged with the murder of Philip David Woodcock, 60. He is accused of stabbing Mr Woodcock in front of colleagues at a FedEx depot in Rother Way, Hellaby, Rotherham on November 2 this year following a disagreement over pay. The court heard Mr Sekanjako is a courier driver and is alleged to have murdered Mr Woodcock in an office by stabbing him three times before being detained at the scene. Recorder of Sheffield, Judge Jeremy Richardson, provisionally fixed a trial date for March 27 next year. He said this could change but it is expected the trial will last around seven days. Mr Sekanjako is also charged with possession of an offensive weapon, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and criminal damage. No pleas
were indicated during the hearing. Following news of Mr Woodcock's death, tributes poured in for him. A colleague wrote: "Such a tragic day at work yesterday, the absolute tragic loss of a fantastic man who literally had time for everyone. "The place just won’t be the same ever again. My thoughts are with Phil's family at this
time. No one should leave home for work in a morning and not return, it's just heartbreaking." Philip David Woodcock, aged 60, died at the scene at FedEx (Image: South Yorkshire Police)

STEELY DETERMINATION Stocksbridge Park Steels are making great strides this season to provide a community with football opportunities and a senior team that can compete at a high level of non-league football. The community club was formed back in 1986 and is famed for bringing through its youth ranks the England International and record-breaking Premier League striker Jamie Vardy. Senior teams have all made a positive start to the current season led by the first team who enjoyed their best run in the FA cup for twenty years reaching the third qualifying round, and beating teams from the division above along the way. On Saturday they won their fourth Northern Prem league game in a row to move up to sixth position level on points with the team occupying the last playoff position in fifth. Manager Ian Richards completely revamped his squad during the summer bringing in good young energetic players who have a never say die attitude, one of those players is Luca De Falco who has been at the club since being a junior and he was also a ball boy
a few years ago before coming through the reserve side into the first team squad.
Steels reserve side currently sit in third place in the Premier division of the County Senior League, Richard Holmeshaws's squad includes several players from the current and previous under-eighteen teams, some of these players had their progress delayed due to covid lockdowns but are now seeing their progress get back on track and hopefully they too will be pushing for first team involvement following the likes of Luca , Lewis Whitham, Ben Rhodes, Brodie Litchfield and of course Jamie Vardy. Steels under eighteen Blue squad are in the second year of their development and have won all six of their games in the Meadowhall League under 18 Premier division to sit in top spot. Three or four of Mark Fretwell's team are also doing well with the reserve team.

PLANS LODGED FOR CONVERSION OF LISTED BUILDING Plans have been lodged for the conversion of part of a historic Sheffield building to create new apartments, writes Stephen Farrel for Yorkshire Business Insider. West Bar Property Rentals Ltd, supported by SLA Design Planning, has submitted full planning and listed building applications to Sheffield City Council for development at Hillsborough Barracks. Hillsborough Barracks is a three-storey, grade II-listed building. Leopold Chambers, the building covered by the application, was formerly the head office of SIG. Planning permission is sought for the change of use of ground, first and second floors from offices to 14 one- and two-bedroom apartments.
squad and the home supporters love to see local players enjoying success alongside their teammates. Steels are enjoying increased attendances this season which all helps towards the sustainability of the club which has seen costs of training, travel and insurance alone rise significantly hopefully the attraction of successful performances at a reasonable cost will attract even more of the community and surrounding areas to go and show their support.
The first teams next home game is this Saturday at home to Bridlington Town. With local sides like Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United, Barnsley and Rotherham United having a break for the World Cup, why not give your local non-league side a watch and get closer to the action. The level of intervention to carry out the required changes have been kept to a minimum to respect and preserve the character and design of the existing building appearance." £10m investment in Chapeltown factory to create new jobs Ronseal producer Sherwin-Williams makes 'fantastic' £10m investment in Sheffield site, writes Chris Burn for The Yorkshire Post. The paint and coatings manufacturer which produces Ronseal has expanded its production and manufacturing capabilities in Sheffield following a £10m investment. Global firm Sherwin-Williams has invested £10m in new production lines at Chapeltown site in South Yorkshire, creating more than 20 new jobs in the process. The Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Sioned Mair-Richards came along to the site to officially open it by way of a ribbon cutting ceremony last week. The expansion of the Chapeltown site represents a £10m investment by Sherwin-Williams, enabling the group to significantly ramp up production of brands currently made at the facility including Ronseal, Ronseal Trade, Geocel, Dow and Thompson. The expansion also involves moving paint production from Europe to the UK, with Chapeltown becoming the manufacturing base of leading paint brands Valspar and Valspar Trade. The Chapeltown expansion project has been over three years in the making, including 18 months of construction. It includes two new manufacturing lines and one filling line, with more than 20 new jobs created in manufacturing, filling & packing, site logistics and support staff. Tom Schill, Regional Vice President of Operations EMEAI at Sherwin-Williams, said: “The state-of-the-art investment in automated production at our Sheffield plant represents SherwinWilliams’ strong commitment to our customers, to our employees, to our local community, and to the environment.”
The investment will expand the capability of Sherwin-Williams to service supply to the UK and Europe, while helping the company to reduce its carbon footprint by consolidating operations and reducing freight. Jane Ryder, Vice President & General Manager at Sherwin-Williams, said: “I am delighted to officially open our expanded production facility in Chapeltown, Sheffield, which significantly increases our UK production capacity, creates new jobs, and reduces our carbon emissions. "This investment is testament to the success of our operations in Sheffield and to the popularity of our brands in the UK and Europe. The expanded facility will play a vital role in driving our growth plan over the next 10 years, ensuring that our leading paint and woodcare brands continue to go from strength to strength.” Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Councillor Sioned-Mair Richards, said: “Sheffield has a long and proud manufacturing history, so it is fantastic to see Sherwin-Williams expand its operations in the city, bringing new jobs and skills with it. "This investment will help to grow our local economy and increase the manufacturing base of the region. It is my pleasure to open this expanded facility, and I look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on the Sheffield economy.” Founded in 1866, The Sherwin-Williams Company is a global leader in the manufacture, development, distribution, and sale of paint, coatings, and related products to professional, industrial, commercial, and retail customers. With global headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio, Sherwin-Williams branded products are sold exclusively through a chain of more than 5,000 company-operated stores and facilities, while the company's other brands are sold through leading mass merchandisers, home centres, independent paint dealers, hardware stores, automotive retailers, and industrial distributors.
Sheffield reduces carbon emissions by swapping inhalers The NHS in Sheffield has reduced CO2 emissions by over 100 tonnes, which is equivalent of driving a car around the world 13 times. Due to a simple change in the asthma inhalers that GPs prescribe patients, the carbon footprint of salbutamol inhalers in the city has reduced dramatically over the last year taking the emissions from over 587 tonnes to 484 tonnes. Salbutamol inhalers are used to treat asthma, a lung condition that affects breathing. Some inhalers known as metered-dose inhalers use a small, pressurised metal cannister to deliver the medication that the patient then breaths in that contain powerful greenhouse gases, whilst aren’t harmful to patients us-
ing the inhaler, do contribute to climate change. Research indicates that Inhaler emissions account for approximately 3% of the NHS carbon footprint. The reduction of harmful emissions in Sheffield was made by switching from one style of inhaler cannister to another that emits over 50% less CO2. Dr Zak McMurray, Medical Director and Sustainability Lead at NHS South Yorkshire in Sheffield, explains: “At COP 27 this week, one of the topics being discussed is reducing emissions. Reducing our carbon footprint is a priority in Sheffield, and we have a plan for providing green health care wherever possible. We have worked closely with GP practices, encouraging them
to prescribe a different type of inhaler than emits less greenhouse gases. The medicine in each inhaler is the same and patients use the inhalers in the same way so there is no change for patients in this respect. “Our medicines optimisation team have supported practices with this switch. We’d like to thank practices and patients for being on board with this scheme. It’s already had a massive impact in the reduction of harmful gases.” If you’re an inhaler user, you can help reduce the carbon footprint further by taking your used inhalers to your local pharmacy to be disposed of properly. Even after an inhaler is finished, it still contains environmentally damaging gases.
Don’t throw used inhalers into your household waste or recycling bins. Landfill disposal of inhalers is harmful to the environment due to left over gases being released into the atmosphere. Plastics from inhalers cannot be recycled using domestic recycling schemes but pharmacies will make sure they are destroyed in an environmentally friendly way. Dr McMurray continues: “Please be assured these gases are not harmful to you when you use your inhaler but are very harmful to the environment and are contributing to the warming of the planet. If you have concerns about the environmental impact of your inhaler, make an appointment with your GP practice to speak about it. Please don’t stop using your inhaler.”

We can visit you at a convenient time in the privacy and comfort of your own home to discuss your unique circumstances.
A visit and consultation is completely free and you are under no obligation to do anything. If you decide to make any arrangements you can be safe in the knowledge that all our professional services and work are fully insured and we are members of the Society of Will Writers, so all our clients are assured of the
highest standards of conduct at all times. All our clients (and their families) that we have helped in the past have been very happy with our services and tell us they have gained great peace of mind knowing that they have sorted everything out.
Jane came to see my parents to help them protect the family home. She really made us all feel at ease, especially my parents. We had no idea what we could do to protect Mum and Dad. Having set up trusts and Lasting Power of Attorney’s, Mum and Dad can get on with their lives without worrying, knowing everything is now in place. Thank you Jane!

07572 987 802 Clock Tower Dear Editor Thank you for your Local history article of last week which I found of great interest and apt with Sunday being the commemoration of those who fought in wars. I found your article fascinating about how the Clock Tower overlooking Stocksbridge came to be. in December of 1923. Of how the Cambridge Quarter Chimes are struck hourly with the heaviest bell's poignant quotation of "At the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember them". I am now looking to visit the museum in Stocksbridge Town Hall to learn more about the Clock Tower which is the true symbol of Stocksbridge for locals and visitors alike. ‘Trespass’
My point is that e.g.above mentioned lodge and ‘house’ near Kettering could have been put to much, much better use.
Im a fun-ghi Hello Editor Whilst going down Carr Road in Deepcar on the bus 10.11.2022 morning, I spied what I took to be an interesting “stand” come display of fungi, growing on the grassy bank outside the Greenways flat complex located at the junction of Carr Road and Helliwell Lane, Deepcar; hence I made a point of getting off the bus on my way home later on that afternoon and taking a few photos of said. Which I attach for your reference and trust they will be of interest.
You don't address my other concern which is the government's illegal practice of taking trained doctors from (red code)extremely poor countries to work in privatised hospitals and residential care in the UK. This despicable and immoral practice is necessary because the Government has neglected to invest in training doctors for over 10 years resulting in a shortage of 6000 doctors in this country and causing ever more hardship and mass suffering and deaths in other incredibly poor countries. Their blood is on our hands. (History repeats itself!) As usual the Tories take no responsibility for their incompetent lazy and misguided actions (or inactions). Will you, our MP take my concerns about this issue to the commons as you are supposed to do please.

A lot of safety issues were raised by councillor Lewis Chinchen who objected to the planning application. This planning was refused in February 2021, but at todays meeting, feelings were running high with one resident pointing out that it affects his property.

In the jungle Dear look local Miriam Cates and Alistair Nicholl are entitled to their opinions on Matt Hancock's stint in the jungle. Personally I think we would be safer if all the Tories were in the Australian Tropics. If Hancock had left his job to be a celeb a long time ago he would never have got the chance to hand out those dodgy PPE deals to his mates from the pub which squandered millions of pounds of our money. Who can forget that photo op of Miriam and Matt outside the Friendship ? Maybe you could publish it again for us ? Yours

The meeting started at 2pm and ended 7pm. It was five hours before the meeting discussed the above planning application. A good turnout of local residents who made valid concerns about flooding and road safety at the junction with Armitage Road. Concerns also raised about young childrens’ journeys to and from school being dangerous.

In fact its hard to imagine a worse scenario than doing nothing, (maybe building yet another shopping mall? sorry, couldn’t resist.) Multiply this by the many other estates and properties in this country and we begin to see the true scale and source of the problem and the potential solutions. It should be criminal,to do nothing when everything around us is in such desperate need. We need a revolution. I often drive past a Lodge on the way through Strines to Derbyshire and each time I want to weep in anger. About fifteen years ago the council sold this great old building and woodland to a certain plant hire operator, well known in the area. Since then the owner has deliberately encouraged its dilapidation by taking the roof off and leaving it, and ... basically that’s it. Ok, “so what’s so wrong with that” you may ask, Dear Editor “simply someone waiting until the best time to sell it In last week's Look Local Alistair Nicholl asked on etc.” Oh no. ‘Did anyone hear Miriam Cates criticise Boris I give you another example of greed and criminal Johnson to going on holiday’. The attitude which amongst other things says that “we can do no wrong” and the myths blinding most of us that make us think that “they are better than us” and the lies that say that “because we are set apart from the masses that we have the time and responsibility to care for everyone in society”. They don’t care because they don’t need to, but the laws and the blindness that we are all cloaked in won’t let us see the obvious. That we, the common man/woman have been robbed and are continuing to be screwed more and more so that the rich and ultra rich can hold on to their ill gotten gains. Sitting idly by doing nothing in mansions and hedge funds and tax havens “offshore” as if that meant anything at all! The world is burning up while we sit back doing nothing about this fundamental injustice and crime against humanity., and our so called leaders dare not do anything that might even suggest that their sponsors wouldn’t like it, that they might loose a tiny part of their vast unused wasted wealth.

Locally sourced sustainable ‘Christmas trees’
Plan to turn historic Ecclesfield cafe into a house blocked by councillors, writes Julia Armstrong, local democracy reporter. Sheffield councillors have thrown out a plan to turn a historic city building from a cafe into a private home to protect its heritage and community importance. There was an outcry when plans were submitted to Sheffield City Council to convert Mobri Bakery in St Mary’s Lane, Ecclesfield, into a home. The grade II-listed building dates back to at least the 17th century. The stone-built former barn has rare original cruck beams. East Ecclesfield ward councillor Alan Woodcock stepped down from chairing the council planning committee so that he could object. The council has received more than 70 objections, plus a 240-signature petition. Cafe worker Kirsty Foster told the meeting: “Sheffield City Council This Christmas, local conservation charity the Steel highlighted that the surrounding area is a townscape of merit. Cllr Woodcock said: “This is a heritage building within a conservation area. At present the business owner lets anyone go in to look at the crucks. The Steel Valley Project is a countryside conservation charity which has been working in the Upper Don area for over 30 years. By picking your own birch tree and making a donation you will be supporting their work in habitat management, tree planting, community events, footpath maintenance and much more.
College welcomes new Principal sistant Principal and, most recently, as a member of the senior leadership team.
“I believe it’s a community hub. The business owner allows people to go in for a warm. We’ve got a cost-of-living crisis at the moment. They don’t need to buy.”
She began her teaching career at King Edward VI College in Stourbridge in 2001 before joining Prior Pursglove Sixth Form College in North Yorkshire two years later.
Cllr Nighat Basharat said: “My biggest concern is this community, about the value of it. I’ve seen that within my role as a community development worker, how much this has a value to the local people that use this space.”
A former A Level Drama, Performing Arts and Musical Theatre teacher, Kelly has over 20 years’ experience of working in sixth form colleges around the country.
Cllr Barbara Masters said the protection of historic environments is reflected in the draft Local Plan, which is undergoing “a full and lengthy adoption procedure”. “It makes a number of references to how we should protect our heritage assets, including their features and setting. I don’t accept that the proposal to convert the bakery, with its open access to historic features, to a private dwelling, where public access is denied will fulfill this.”
span after they are harvested, but it will also allow the Steel Valley Project to raise some much-needed funds.
Barnsley Sixth Form College has appointed Kelly Rinaldi as Principal to take the reins at the start of a new academic year.
She said that the draft plan emphasises local services and jobs, “so why are we considering a proposal which will force the people to travel for the goods and services they desire, but also putting people out of work?”.
Kelly was previously Assistant Principal at John Leggott Sixth Form College, Scunthorpe, before making the move to head up the outstanding Sixth Form provision at Barnsley College.
The committee rejected the proposal on the grounds that layout changes will affect the listed features and involve the loss of a community asset.
In her 17 years at John Leggott, she held a variety of roles including Head of Department, Associate As-
Her wealth of experience will provide clear vision, leadership and drive the success of Barnsley Sixth Form College. Kelly Rinaldi, Principal of Barnsley Sixth Form College, said: “I am delighted to have been appointed Principal of Barnsley Sixth Form College. I will work tirelessly to ensure the young people of Barnsley and the surrounding areas receive the highest quality learning experience here and enjoy their time studying A Levels with us.
“I look forward to meeting those interested in studying A Levels with us at our Open Days in November and January and showing them why Barnsley Sixth Form College is an outstanding place to study.” Yiannis Koursis, Principal and Chief Executive of Barnsley College, added: “I am delighted that Kelly has joined us to head up Barnsley Sixth Form College and lead on our aim of offering an outstanding A Level provision to our young people. Kelly has a wealth of experience in sixth form education ranging from teaching to a range of managerial roles and I am sure she will be a huge asset to us.” For more information about the courses on offer at Barnsley Sixth Form College, visit our Open Days on Thursday 24 November (4.00pm6.00pm) or Saturday 14 January (10.00am-2.00pm).

A disappointing result for Church with enough chances to have won this match. However, it was Maltby that took two of theirs to come out winners on the night.
I’m disappointed, the players are disappointed, and the management are disappointed.

would also end the half with the Steels leading 1-0.
It was a fairly dull start to the game as both teams looked to feel each other out before really trying to go for it. However, the first moment to excite the fans went Stocksbridge’s way. It was a break, down the righthand side which allowed Bailey Baker to venture forward and into the box. He delayed pulling the trigger though, which allowed the eventual shot to be blocked.
In the second half, the game would change, mostly with Grantham bringing Mitchell Tait on to replace Joe Stacey. This would improve the home side but the Steels still had their chances to finish the game. Poole almost made the most of a slip by Charlie Jemson as he broke into the box but he could only shoot straight at Haystead who palmed the ball away.
The eventual goal was one of Grantham’s own making. The Gingerbreads were unhappy as they believed there was a handball as a long ball caused Steel's problems. The debate over this decision continued as the game did and in the end, the dissent was so much that the referee gave a free kick to the Steels.
a shirt pull and the penalty was given. Ify Ofoegbu stepped up and sent Dan Haystead the wrong way to give Stocksbridge the lead.

of space and time to do with it what he pleases. Perhaps it was too much time though, as Poole would not follow up his goals in the Carlton match as he could only put it wide. Poole would get a chance to redeem himself with a free kick, but he could only send that over. This

Stocksbridge 24 - 5 Hessle Hull based Hessle travelled to a sunny Bolsterstone, (yes you read it right, sunny in November) to take on Globe sponsored Stocksbridge on Remembrance Weekend. With Whitaker, Pearson & Spencer all returning to the starting line up and Roebuck, R Smith and Jones on the bench the Stocksbridge side looked to have strength in depth along with ex colt Joe Jnr Milky Martin making the team sheet for a second week running alongside now regular Logan Hannah. The home team opened up the game with points from a penalty kick in front of sticks seeing Scott Bowskill put them ahead 3-0. Hessle found
themselves giving away a further penalty but Stocksbridge was unable to take advantage missing the kick from just inside the half way line. Hessle continuously kicked out of pressure but solid fullback John Saddington returned the ball with big physical carries.
However, Grantham would soon get a massive chance. The Gingerbreads put a ball into the box but EFL veteran Nathan Tyson went
Jack Pearson split the defence at the top of the field scoring the first try of the game followed by Scott Bowskill successfully converting the kick. Another penalty was given to Stocksbridge this time for a no arms tackle and the Hessle culprit received a yellow card, unfortunately the kick was short of the sticks this time. For the following ten minutes the away team put a shift in and kept Stocksbridge in their
own half until the half time whistle. 10-0
first half. Paul Kelly successfully converted. 24-0
Hessle started with fire in their belly’s in the second half and were now back up to a full 15, combined with a number of penalties awarded to them this allowed ground to be made against the Stocksbridge side. A team warning was given to both teams for the increasing penalty count. Veteran Scott Bowskill made an admirable run down the wing, seeing the ball recycled through the tackle to Sam Whittaker crashing in, repeated by Gary Woodcock before finding Paul Kelly at 10 who stepped defence scoring to the right hand side of the posts.
Tiring Stocksbridge lost concentration in the last two minutes of the game allowing Hessle backs to pass out wide to a three on one to score on the far right hand side. The conversion was a failed attempt leaving the final score 24-5.
Scott Bowskill successfully converted. 17-0 John Saddington broke the line and kicked overhead with Whippet Callum Green supporting down the wing, possession was handed over to Hessle for off the feet at the ruck. Soon later Stocksbridge was awarded a scrum 7 meters out, the ball was sent to the feet of No.8 Jack Milky Martin and passed out to inside centre Jack Pearson who scored his second try of the game breaking through the defence under the sticks in the same manor he had in the

Grantham didn’t have a shot on goal in the first half but things did improve for them in the second half. Ashton Hall’s diving header at the far post from a corner wasn’t too far off, while the Steels were almost punished for not clearing a corner but Matt Tootle could only send his shot high and wide.
Stocksbridge strut their stuff in the sun
A mention goes to prop Lewis Bowman who broke the line at at half way, was tackled at the ankles but found his feet and proceeded to the try line only to be pulled back by the ref for a “held tackle”. Other mentionable players from coach Lawrence include Steve Hawksworth and Jonathan Gill for strong and improved performances. The Fox Catering of the match was awarded to Gary Woodcock for yet another solid performance in both attack and defence. Next week sees Stocksbridge take on Hornsea at home (KO 2.15pm) where a win will secure 6th place in the League regardless of other results. Adult Training Wednesdays 6.15pm. down softly to a push from Baker. The referee thought it was enough for a penalty and so he pointed to the spot. Hall has already netted a few from the spot this season and so he stepped up with a lot of confidence, but Harrison Davison-Hale guessed right and made an impressive save to keep his clean sheet intact. This wouldn’t stop Grantham from throwing everything at Stocksbridge but the Steels would not bend on this occasion. Tyson headed a corner into the box wide while the returning Sisa Tuntulwana blared a shot over, wasting Grantham’s final foray forward. The Steels would hold on and claim their fourth win in a row. Next home game: Bridlington Town Saturday 19 November, 3pm KO
Doubles Triumph for Stringer and Pearson
The last summer competition was decided when Dave Stringer and Alf Pearson (pictured) won the Dragons Doubles Knockout Competition at Stocksbridge Golf Club. They won handsomely, beating Trevor Newton and Dragons Captain, Steven Haigh, by a thumping margin of 5 and 4. Dave and Alf were never down in the match and it wasn't until the 12th that they even lost a hole. By that point the match was never in doubt and they closed it out on the 14th with a half. Then on Saturday 12 November the Gents Section played for the 5th round of the Winter Cup. In glorious, warm sunshine, a large field enjoyed a course in excellent condition for the time of the year. The scoring matched the conditions, with Nick Broomhead (13) winning with 42 points. Nick played well below his handicap allowance and even managed two birdies. In second place was An-
drew Finney, playing off scratch, with 40 points. Andrew's gross score was 61 and but for a double bogie 6 on the 9th, he would have gone below 60. With an eagle 2 and 5 birdies, Andrew's score was one of the rounds of the year at the Golf Club. Third place went to Craig Brailsford (15) with 39 points. Earlier in the week, the Dragons competed for another round of the section's Winter Fiddle. Martyn Bradwell (19) won with an excellent 40 points. Second place went to Frank Milnes (22) with 39 points and in third place was Ash Nightingale (26) with 37 points. LADIES CUT DOWN BY ‘CLASSY’ FOREST
Vitality Women’s FA Cup First Round
Oughtibridge WM Nottingham Forest
0 6
Oughtibridge finally met their match in the FA Cup as Forest showed some real class in a 6-0 win down at the War Memorial on a well attendedRemembrance Sunday. Both teams laid wreaths beforehand and observed a minutes silence. The national league promotion contenders scored 3 in each half with Daniel’s and Mosby grabbing 2 each and the others from Taylor and Hewitt. At all times though ‘Bridge kept going at it to make it a decent game with young keeper Molly Hutchinson in outstanding form also. The bumper crowd of over 200 thought they had celebrated a late consolation cracker when Millie Kenyon fired home and the ball was back on the centre spot by the time the assistant alerted the ref to an offside in an earlier phase, which had included a thrown in.
Lots of positives for Oughtibridge, John Camm, a visiting Forest supporter, thanked The club on Twitter for the warm welcome and commented that all football FA CUP ACTION: Oughtibridge Ladies with Councillor Jenny Morton of Bradfield Parish Council clubs should be like Oughtibridge, you are a real credit to your village and the game.
