Minister visits The Sheffield 1000
Popular TV presenter and Sheffield resident, Dan Walker, made an unexpected appearance in Worrall over the weekend, where he stopped by for a quick pint at the Blue Ball Inn. While there, he met with Emma, the pub's friendly landlady, to discuss a partnership with The Sheffield 1000, a local charity of which Dan is a proud patron.
The Sheffield 1000's mission is to encourage 1000 people to donate just £1 each, which will go towards supporting various local charities, organizations, and individuals in need. Dan was excited to discuss how the charity could help people in Sheffield, and he even hinted at a special pub quiz event that will be taking place during the summer.

VISION ZERO
Young people standing up for safer roads will be in the national spotlight this week as part of a campaign to end all road deaths.
Launched in 2016, Project EDWARD’s aim is to raise awareness about road safety and ultimately stop all deaths and serious injuries caused by traffic collisions.
Community Safety manager Margaret Lawson said: “We are really proud of the interventions we run here at Lifewise and the feedback we get from schools isalways very positive.
“Our interactive road safety scenario is aimed at pupils who are preparing to travel more independently to secondary school and looks at decision making as well as hazard awareness.
“We welcome the Project EDWARD team and are grateful to be able to show the rest of the UK the work that we are doing to help keep our young people safe.”
In 2021, 36 people lost their lives on South Yorkshire roads and 660 people were seriously injured. Children (aged 16 and under) accounted for 104 of those casualties seriously injured as the result of a collision.
Community Safety manager Margaret Lawson said: “We are really proud of the interventions we run here at Lifewise and the feedback we get from schools is always very positive.

MP critical of educational cultures and teachings
Local MP Miriam Cates has said she believes “cultural Marxism” in schools is “destroying our children’s souls”.
Speaking at the National Conservatism conference in Westminster on Monday, Miriam Cates said children were not being taught to “love our country.”
The MP for Penistone and Stocksbridge said she worried young people no longer had “hope for the future”.
Levelling Up Minister tours Stocksbridge
...Continued from front page
Levelling Up Minister Dehenna Davison MP visited Stocksbridge in north Sheffield last week to find out more about the ambitious £24.1m plans to regenerate the town.
Stocksbridge has been awarded the investment through the Government’s Towns Fund programme to deliver ten key projects for the town. It is one of 101 towns chosen to develop a Town Investment Plan through the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities
Ms Davison met the Co-Chairs of the Towns Fund Board Miriam Cates MP and Yuri Matischen during her visit to South Yorkshire and was updated on progress and the next steps in the plans for Stocksbridge.
The funding was confirmed in Decem ber last year and it’s hoped that work will start on-site on the first project later in the year. A key part of the Stocksbridge Town Deal is the plan to redevelop the Manchester Road area where survey work has also started this week.
The town centre regeneration plans will deliver a brand new library and community hub on the current library site with new workspace and a learn ing area for adult education. There are plans to make much-needed improve ments to the public realm as well as a major upgrade to the Manchester Road precinct – including a shop front grant scheme.
Other projects across the town will de liver brand-new sporting and recreation facilities and investment in walking and cycling trails. A new hydrotherapy pool at the Stocksbridge Community Leisure Centre is planned as well as a local hop per bus service for the local commu nity.
Miriam Cates MP said: “This invest ment is a fantastic opportunity and so important for Stocksbridge, we were delighted to be able to talk through our plans and vision for the town with the Minister who has a real understanding of what we are working to achieve.
“It is great to have her support for our projects and we’re looking forward to inviting the Minister back to Stocks bridge when work gets underway in the coming months.”
The Towns Fund board is made up of people reflecting Stocksbridge and the local authority with Sheffield City Council as the responsible authority to deliver the town’s investment plan.
“That hope is sadly diminishing in so many of our young people today, because liberal individualism has proven to be completely powerless to resist the cultural Marxism that is systematically destroying our children’s souls,” she said.
Cates told the right-wing gathering: “When culture, schools and universities openly teach that our country is racist, our heroes are villains, humanity is killing the Earth, you are what you desire, diversity is theolo-
gy, boundaries are tyranny and self-restraint is oppression, is it any wonder that mental health conditions, self-harm and suicide, and epidemic levels of anxiety and confusion characterise the emerging generation?
“We must end the indoctrination of our children with destructive and narcissistic ideologies, instead protecting childhood, training children in the timeless virtues and teaching them how to love our country.”
dancing success
A Sheffield dance school is celebrating an incredibly successful half term, after attending three national festivals and bringing back over 200 trophies to the city!
In competitions against hundreds of contenders from across the UK, taking place in Scarborough, Skegness and Birmingham, pupils from the Erika Wilkinson Dance Academy (EWDA) came away with the trophy haul, which included 45 first places.
Dancers from the school also received judges choice awards, with 7 year old Freya Nurse, 8 year old Myla Whittaker, 9 year olds Neive Wild and Monroe Greenaway and 12 year old Amelia Davison all picked by one of the judges as their favourite dancer of the weekend. Nine year old Laci Blythe and 12 year old Emily Willis were winners in the Skegness Championship Su-
preme sections, beating 100s of girls older than themselves and 12 year old India Purcell and 14 year old Valentina Diaz-Ward were amongst dancers invited to a special dance awards event in October. Six of the dancers also moved up a category due to their success at the festivals, including 16 year old Morgan Blythe who became a Champion dancer in fast freestyle and an intermediate in slow lyrical.
Erika Wilkinson who runs the school said: “I am so proud of the girls’ achievements! You head into big dance championships like these where you’re competing against schools from across the UK hoping your pupils will do well but never daring to dream that you’ll come away with so many accolades!
“Festival weekends are really hard work, the girls can compete in as many as 10 different

They are often dancing until late and then again early in the morning so it’s unusual for us to do as many as three festivals in one half term, but we went for it and the girls took it all in their stride and achieved absolutely amazing results.
“We’re now looking forward to practicing harder and getting better and better so that we can bring more Championship trophies back to Sheffield and are looking forward to heading to the World Dance Championships in Blackpool in June.”
This Saturday [20 May] and Sunday [21 May], Sandersons shoppers will be able to delve into their wedding vision and meet the local businesses who can make their big day perfect. Botanical Gardens to host Tree Fayre
Celebrating the wonder of trees and woodlands will take place again this year, with the Sheffield Tree Fayre, in Sheffield Botanical Gardens.
This one-day tree-fest, running from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 20th May 2023, will feature a variety of tree-related activities including children’s outdoor forest school activities and indoor crafts, adult wood craft stalls, guided tree walks and a number of wood and tree-themed stalls.
A full and varied line-up of tree-themed talks will include speakers from The Woodland Trust, Regather Cooperative, The University of Sheffield, and local social enterprise Kids Plant Trees. Educational and information tree walks and talks will take place throughout the whole day and even the food, available for purchase, will be wood-themed – with wood-fired pizza.
Lisa Firth, Director of Sports, Libraries and Leisure, said: “This event aims to bring together everyone in the city who is passionate about trees and how they make Sheffield a better place to live, work and play. We know how valued our parks, woodlands and green spaces are and this is a chance to learn more about how we manage our existing trees and plant new trees where they are needed. National organisations such as the
Woodland Trust and the Arboricultural Association will be joining us too.”
Officers from the Community Forestry Team who focus on working with community groups and schools to plant and establish trees across the city, will be on hand to talk with local people about the work they do and answer questions.
This event is hosted by Sheffield City Council Community Forestry Team, in partnership with The Woodland Trust,
National Heritage Lottery funded Education and Engagement Project at Sheffield Botanical Gardens and the Sheffield Street Tree Partnership. The event is also supported by the Friends of Sheffield Botanical Gardens and Sheffield Botanical Gardens Trust.
All activities will be at the Thompson Road entrance side of the Sheffield Botanical Gardens, S11 8RB. Booking in advance for this free event is optional at: https://sheffieldtreefayre2022.eventbrite.com
Sheffield Clean Air Zone raises £210,500 in first month
Sheffield's Clean Air Zone (CAZ) generated just over £210,500 in charges and fines in its first month of operation, new figures have revealed, writes Alex Moss for the BBC.
Introduced on 27 February, it applies to taxis, lorries and vans not meeting emissions standards, but it does not apply to private cars or motorbikes.
About 15,000 journeys through the zone in March brought in £175,512, plus £35,060 in fines, the council said.
The money raised would be spent on projects to reduce emissions, it added.
Sheffield City Council said the CAZ scheme had been brought in following a legal directive from the government to bring nitrogen
dioxide emissions in the city within legal limits in the shortest possible time.
Air pollution contributed to 500 deaths a year in Sheffield and could cause various health problems, it said.
The zone covers much of the city centre, including the ring road and parts of the A57 Sheffield Parkway.
Drivers of smaller vehicles which do not meet Euro pollution standards are charged £10 a day for entering the CAZ, while drivers of non-compliant buses, coaches, lorries and HGVs are charged £50 per day.
At the time the CAZ first went live at the end of February, many business owners said they feared the impact it might have on trade.
PAY CLEANERS GOING RATE
Shocking that council refuses to pay it's own staff what they are owed, says GMB Union Sheffield City Council has breached the Local Government Pay Agreement and refused to pay both the 2022 and 2023 wage increases to their lowest paid workers, claim the GMB Union.
The authority is committed to following nationally negotiated and agreed pay structure for all council workers.
Despite this they have decided not to pay their employed cleaners both the 2022 and 2023 pay rate.
Will Dalton, GMB Organiser, said:
“It’s shocking that once again the council is refusing to pay their own staff what they are owed.
“These workers, who are overwhelmingly women, are being underpaid on a technicality, leaving them 61p an hour worse off than their colleagues.
"No doubt the people of Sheffield would be appalled that the council has chosen to underpay their lowest paid staff.
“With the council about to elect a new leader, GMB calls on all candidates to publicly commit to righting this injustice.”
Sheffield City Council cleaners have been paid £9.90 per hour since April 2022 while the lowest pay point on the council's own pay scale is £10.51 per hour.

Bolsterstone Male Voice
Choir has saluted a veteran member who has raised an amazing £120,000 for charity and choir funds.
After 27 years, Brian Pigott, a top tenor, has retired as organiser of the choir’s annual golf day at Stocksbridge Golf Club which has raised money for a wide range of charities, including Sheffield hospitals. There was a surprise presentation at the choir’s weekly practice on Monday when Brian received a framed retirement scroll and a couple of bottles from chairman Mick Siddall who praised Brian’s brilliant fund-raising record.
The golf day started as a oneoff to raise money for the
stained-glass window in St Mary’s, Bolsterstone, which commemorates the nine people who died in the choir’s Holmfirth coach-crash tragedy in 1947.
There is music in Brian’s family. His son Neil sings with the Sheffield-based Vivacity choir and his late brother Trevor sang with Bolsterstone choir for many years.
Chairman Siddall told Monday’s gathering that there had been excellent feedback about the choir’s singing as guest performers at the recent Coronation concert at Christ Church, Stocksbridge, and thanked music director Daniel Timmins and accompanist Kim Kaye for raising the choir’s standards. Audi-
ence members had remarked on the choir’s ability to tackle some difficult pieces. Several Bolsterstone members took part in last weekend’s two Big Sing performances at Christ Church organised by Steel Valley Beacon Arts with Daniel as MD and Kim as pianist. Packed audiences on both nights gave a warm reception to the 70-plus singers from many choirs and some who had not sung in a choir before.
Bolsterstone, as is the custom, will sing to open the annual Bolsterstone Village Fayre on Saturday July 1st at 2pm and will give a joint concert with the Holme Valley Singers, led by Kim Kaye, at Holmfirth Civic Hall on Saturday July 15th.

An RSPB conservation officer reported the burning, carried out between 16 and 19 October, to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. Investigators then found 30 burns across 46.06 hectares on a hillside within a site of special scientific interest near Stocksbridge. All 15 samples taken were found deeper than 40cm.
Under the 2021 regulations, burning peat at this depth in protected areas is illegal without a licence.
Senior crown prosecutor Maqsood Khan, of the CPS's rural crime unit, said Dunlin Ltd had been "reckless" and "damaged an area of land that is already at risk".
He added: "Land agents acting for them made an application to legally burn areas of vegetation so they were clearly aware that they needed one. When the licence was refused, they simply went ahead and did it anyway."
Dunlin Ltd, a property company worth nearly £20m based in Towcester, Northamptonshire, pleaded guilty to six counts of burning peat without a licence on Wednesday. As well as the fine,
the firm was ordered to pay costs of £125 and a surcharge of £720.
Dr Pat Thompson, senior policy officer for RSPB England, said: "This case demonstrates that despite assurances from some in the shooting community, illegal burning is still happening in some of our most highly protected areas.
"We know that many driven grouse moor managers are following the new rules. However, if we are to restore our upland peatlands, we need to see all land managers comply."
Burning of heather on peatland is a common practice among driven-grouse moor gamekeepers as a way to encourage new heather shoots for red grouse to feed on before they are shot for sport.
'Misunderstood regulations'
The ban on burning below 40cm was introduced to protect important carbon sinks, with England's upland peatlands estimated to contain more than 138 megatonnes of carbon.
Peatland is also an important habitat for many species, including the rare hen harrier, which uses moors for hunting and nesting.
A spokesperson for Dunlin Ltd said: "The estate management deeply regrets this contravention of burning regulations.
"We genuinely misunderstood the updated regulations and this led to these errors. We have already implemented measures to ensure such an error will not happen again."

COMMON WEDDING QUESTIONS ANSWERED
Most of us have been to at least one wedding before, but planning our own can be different. As a guest, you can just show up, and even if you’ve agreed to help out in some way, your duties will be minimal. When it’s your own wedding, you might be unsure where to start. Here are a few common questions (and answers) to help you.
Do I need a wedding planner?
Of course, it’s possible to get married without a wedding planner. If you have a limited budget, hiring a wedding planner is going to cut into that, leaving much less to spend on the wedding itself. However, if you choose not to hire one, you give yourself more work to do. You can get around this by making a list of what you want, trying to
keep it as simple as possible and asking friends and family who you trust to help you.
Where should I get married?
The choice is yours. While a church might be the most obvious option, you can get married anywhere which offer weddings and even get permission to marry at some of the most stunning outdoor locations. So long as you look into getting the right permission and ensure the wedding is legally binding beforehand, the only limit is your budget.
How much food and drink should I serve everyone?
Some weddings seem to go on all day. If the ceremony is performed in the morning, the couple and their guests might hold
an afternoon gathering with a buffet and light refreshments, before the big evening celebration begins. This means feeding people twice. However, if you only have a limited budget, you can get around this by having an afternoon ceremony, followed by the evening celebration, and only having to feed people once. Although a free bar might sound nice, there are always people who don’t know when to stop. The better suggestion is to serve everyone a drink when they arrive at the evening celebration, and/or with their meal, but leave them to buy their own drinks from the bar.
What information do I put on the invitation?
The obvious details are the date, location and time. Although, if
you have a dress code or theme, you could also include that too. Even if you’ve already told people in person, it’s a good idea to let them see it on the invitation too. You should also mention if the invitation is only for the person named, or if they can bring someone. This allows you to limit how many people you have to provide catering for and prevents guests from bringing strangers to your wedding if you prefer to stick to close family and friends. When you send the invitation, also include an RSVP card, so people can let you know if they plan to attend. You might want to include a tick box for

Road Safety concerns
By parents of the children attending Royd Infant School on Carr Road and St Johns Primary School on St. Margarets Road.
“The amount of congestion and traffic surrounding both School’s has been a great concern for some time astounded by daily occurrences of large vehicles, i.e dumper trucks mounting kerbs, due to driver impatience on their way up and down Carr Road.”
I agree with the points raised in this letter, only last week St. Margarets and Carr Road was blocked by a dumper truck.
Its a problem that our local politicians know all too well about. Just Ask Miriam Cates or Julie Grocutt or Lewis Chinchen. Did they object to the huge housing development in the first place?

Help wanted for community events
Dear Editor,
I hope this letter finds you well. I'm writing to you today on behalf of the Stocksbridge & Upper Don Tenants and Residents Association to share some exciting plans we have in the works for our community.
As we look forward to the summer months, we've been busy brainstorming ways to bring our community together and have some fun. We're thrilled to announce that we have a series of events planned that we hope will do just that.
First up, we're organizing a canal trip departing from Victoria Quays. We think it will be a great opportunity for everyone to get out on the water, enjoy some fresh air, and take in some scenery. We're also planning a fun dog show for our furry friends, a coffee morning for those who like to catch up over a cuppa, and a tabletop sale for anyone who wants to sell or browse some local treasures.
To make these events a success, we're hoping to enlist the help of some community members who are passionate about bringing people together and having a good time. If you're interested in lending a hand, we would be absolutely thrilled to have you involved. Whether you're an expert in event planning or just have a willingness to help out wherever needed, we would be grateful for any assistance you could offer.
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and learn about our plans. We hope to see you at one of our upcoming events!

Police report
Dear editor,
Good to see one of our “NPT” -- Neighbourhood Policing Team, I presume -- Sgt Ross, write in last week’s LookLocal keeping us informed …. and shouldn’t this be a regular feature, editor? Yet regarding burglary, not a sausage. Plenty of it about, but why are any of the very few prolific offenders responsible still at large? And still doing it? Given CCTV everywhere as well as modern forensics, even the most reckless nut-job should be giving up burglary in favour of the now number-one crime of fraud, as it’s such a secure policing-free occupation. Is it that police can’t be bothered looking through CCTV images? Maybe so. A while back, I reported a psycho bouncer at a pub in town try to provoke a group of us sedately discussing philosophy, going on to repeatedly try to punch one guy; and despite CCTV showing this, the police reckoned there was too low a frame rate(?), and … get this ... that the bouncer would just make out there was ‘verbal’. Since when did ‘verbal’ entitle pub security to gratuitously try to brain-injure one of the clientele with punches to the head?! Anyway, while on cameras: why do we still see, all the time, speeding, eg, on Carr Road, with never a camera in sight? It’s not that our NPT officers shun traffic matters. They are keen to stick tickets on cars parked outside the Nag’s Head on the flimsy grounds they are near a little hump in the road. Also, it would be nice if our PCs/PCSOs actually at least acknowledged emails. I sent to each of our six local full- or half-blues – and note that’s only 50% of the strength we’re meant to have for our area –re an incident of demanding money with menaces (the car-scrape con), and, more recently, attempted robbery on the High Street here, but not a dickybird. Yes, they’re busy, but if they turn a deaf ear to crime going on we’re trying to tell them about ... And how about SYPolice at least allowing you to register a crime? The last time it took me five days, trying all avenues (their call centre, on-line, and their ‘chat’ – for which you have to be already registered with their on-line service to use, so you can’t), before any of their systems finally allowed me to log an incident. Such inattention to their tech working properly is convenient to drive the crime numbers down, eh?
Well, we may have little faith in the police, but let’s encourage them to get together with LookLocal to tell us all about the crime that is happening. With the ex-police chief, David Chinchin, not becoming a councillor in the election this month, so not there to sort out police provision, it’s down to his son, Councillor Lewis Chinchen, and/or our other councillor, Julie Grocutt, an ex-PC herself,
I understand. Over to you guys. Can you press the powers that be to get us the missing PCs and PCSOs to enable something more like proper policing in our area?
Steve Moxon
PS Good also to see LL delivered again in Deepcar, and it's being free access again on-line (no tedious pay thingey to have to get through).
Road Safety Concerns
In last week’s addition of the Look Local Mrs Daly raised concerns regarding the road safety around the Royd Nursery and Infant School, where the large vehicles attending the Hollin Busk Development are driving in a manner that is unsuitable to the road conditions. This is something that has been brought to my attention by a number of concerned residents. I have passed the matters on to our local policing team to have a presence on the roads at the school opening and closing times to ensure out local children are kept safe. If you see vehicles driving dangerously near our local schools or anywhere else please report matters to the local police, this can be done via 101 or on-line southyorks.police.uk and follow the link. I have also requested that the council parking enforcement team visit, however their remit is restricted to parking offences. Matters surrounding concerns with developers can also be reported to https://www. ccscheme.org.uk/
The SCC planning team have also reviewed traffic signs on the approach to the schools to ensure there is sufficient signage to ensure that drivers are warned that children are about and can then drive appropriately.
Last week with the Friends of Hollin Busk and the planning officer, I meet with the developer and this matter was raised for them to address.
The Stocksbridge Town Council have also requested that the developer attend the Town Council meeting on 13th July to discuss this matter. The meeting commences at 6.30pm and is open for the public to attend.
We are all aware that our local roads were never made for the volume of traffic that flows on them. As your local councillor I am working with the South Yorkshire Combined Authority (SYMCA) Mayor to bring the buses back under public control, so that we can have a say over where, when and how frequently our buses run. I would like to thank all residents who attended the public meeting we held recently where the bus situation was discussed with the SYMCA Mayor and Stagecoach. As a member of the Towns Fund Board we have now secured funding for a ‘nipper’ bus to travel around the Valley side. This should be in operation later in the year. We have also secured funding to look at the feasibility of opening up the Don Valley railway line into Stocksbridge. This is in its very early stages and is not approved at this time, but is work in progress. Reliable public transport is essential for our community, not only to allow us to move about safely, but to look after our planet.
Councillor Julie Grocutt

tigers positive in defeat
bridge had a strong lineup, however it was an all too familiar tale with the bat. Wickets continued to tumble cheaply, with the 2nds falling to 49-6 before the drinks break.
Matt Hague and captain Chris Thwaites tried to rescue the innings and restore a bit of pride, building a 58 run partnership. Hague battled through injury on his way to an excellent 41. Hague was eventually bowled by opener Marshall, which led to a chaotic sequence of events. Callum Haywood was very unfortunate to be bowled the following delivery, with the ball spinning back on to the stumps, leaving Warmsworth on a hattrick. Not only did Marshall pick up a hattrick, he also clean bowled Brearley to take 4 wickets in 4 balls!
SHEFFIELD team boss Simon
Stead reckons his side’s 50-40 defeat at Wolverhampton on Monday wasn’t a disaster with all circumstances taken into account.
The Tru Plant Tigers arrived in the West Midlands without No.1 star Jack Holder and club captain Kyle Howarth as they faced a Wolves side unbeaten on home shale so far in 2023.
The Owlerton outfit kept the Monmore Green men on their toes in the first half of the meeting in particular and trailed by just two points after seven races. But the hosts were eight points clear after Heat 11 and the Tigers were unable to reduce the deficit thereafter.
It was a busy night for reserve duo Lewis Kerr and Dan Gilkes, as well as the returning Tobiasz Musielak who all had six outings each.
And they delivered the vast majority of the positives for Stead who was satisfied enough with the display in the Black Country.
“I think it was a good effort,” Stead said.
“Obviously we come into every meeting wanting to win, that goes without saying, but circumstances made things a little bit more difficult here.
“I think we covered Kyle with R/R the best we could at No.4.
“David (Bellego) had a tough night and that made R/R even more difficult because he was the only one above Kyle in the averages who could take a ride apart from the two reserves.
“Trying to juggle the programme and get the best out of every heat that we could wasn’t easy.
“It was tough and I think we did the best we could under the circumstances.
“Yes we went on to lose the meeting, but what I will say is there were plenty of positives.
“Tobi was back and looking like he’d never had an injury, Dan was looking really good at a track he’s not really spent much time on, Adam (Ellis) was looking a bit more like his old self and it was another great job from Lewi.
“Wolves is always a difficult place to come to and to keep it within ten isn’t a disaster and it makes it an even more mouthwatering tie when we face them at Owlerton later in the season.”
Sheffield head to Leicester next Monday (May 22, 7.30) with the next fixture at Owlerton on Thursday, May 25 (7.30) when King’s Lynn are the visitors.
With the forecast finally predicting a full day of sun the Stocksbridge1st XI hosted Caribbean at Lucas Wheels Bracken Moor. Skipper Jack Newton won the toss and elected to field first on a track that looked to offer a lot for the bowlers after weeks of rain and poor weather. Richard Marsden was the first to strike as he removed the opener with the score 19-1.
Caribbean dug in well, against a very good Stockbridge bowling attack. Joe Hibbert struck next with the score 70-2. However the 1st XI struggled to take regular wickets and a third wicket partnership of 66 put them in control of the innings. The 1st rotated the bowling but the batsmen were playing the situation very well and waiting for any loose balls to dispatch to the boundary.
Skipper Jack Newton and Jake Vickers both took wickets but the momentum was with Caribbean. Bjorn Taylor, the number three batsman was destructive and finished on a superb 80 off 91 balls including six fours and five sixes.
Liam Grayson came on with 9 overs to go and bowled with control and accuracy. He finished with figures of 3-9 to
restrict Caribbean to well made 220-7 off their 46 overs.
The 1st XI needed to dig in and bat time as a big chase was needed to win the game. However a poor start took away any chances of the 1st XI pulling off a victory. With the score 7-4 they were in heaps of trouble. The Caribbean bowlers were on form and never gave anything away, with chirp coming from the fielders every ball it was difficult for the 1st XI batsmen’s to gain any momentum in the innings.
With the score 35-8 the 1st XI were tumbling towards a very disappointing loss. Andy Hibbert and Jake Vickers dug in and made things difficult for the Caribbean bowlers, with the pair putting on 35 for the 8th wicket shocking some good resilience. However the 1st were eventually skittle out for 71, giving Caribbean a resounding 149 run victory. A very frustrating and bleak afternoon with the bat for the 1st XI who travel to Sprotborough this Saturday looking to get back to winning ways.
Stocksbridge 2nd XI 107 all out (M Hague 41) Warmsworth 2nd XI 108-4 (C Thwaites 2-32)
Unfortunately it was another defeat for the 2nd XI, losing out to a strong Warmsworth side. Warmsworth won the toss and put Stocksbridge into bat. Stocks-
A very disappointing end for Stocksbridge after fighting back into a decent position. Hague top scored with his valiant 41, Ant Siddall added 19, Dave Smith 15 and Chris Thwaites was left 13 not out.
Stocksbridge went out to field wanting early wickets and to make things as difficult as possible for Warmsworth. Young opener Rowan Brearley continued his excellent start to the season, demonstrating fantastic accuracy throughout his spell. The breakthrough finally came from a run-out by Chris Thwaites, ending a 50 run opening stand by Warmsworth.
Thwaites then followed up his fielding effort by picking up the next 2 wickets with the ball. Stocksbridge were doing a great job of keeping things tight in the field and were well in the game. Callum Haywood continued to bowl well, finding the outside edge on numerous occasions. Haywood finally picked up a deserved wicket, when batsman Spaven skipped down the wicket and missed, resulting in Dave Smith picking up a sharp stumping.
Warmsworth did eventually get over the line with just 2 overs remaining, a great effort in the field to take the hosts so deep. A special mention to Rowan Brearley who bowled 10 overs for just 10 runs, including 55 dot balls and was incredibly unlucky to not pick up a wicket.”
