DEEPCAR MAN THANKS FAMILY FOR NEW LIFE

A DEEPCAR man is using his own story to raise awareness of the importance of organ donation. Paul Cocker, 46, now has four kidneys after receiving one from brother Vincent, 50, and one from sister Karen, 45. At the age of 10, it first became apparent that Paul suffered from kidney problems after his ankles swelled up on holiday after fluid gathered there. It was another 14 years before he experienced problems again but this time the effects were far more serious and within hours he was on a dialysis machine – a process that has since become familiar to the publisher. He was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease and had to attend the Northern General Hospital three times a week. After a seven-year wait for a kidney, Karen was found to be a match for a transplant and the brother and sister underwent the procedure in 2011. This allowed Paul 14 years of normal life until his body rejected Karen’s kidney and it began to fail. Wife Samantha agreed to give Paul one of her kidneys but it was then discovered that Vincent was a better match, even though the less advanced medical techniques of the past had stopped him from donating before.

“Excellent”

The brothers have made a full recovery from the swap and Paul, who runs a cookbook business called Meze Publishing, is now back to living a full life. He told Look Local: “I feel so much better now, I can’t even describe it. My job involves a lot of food obviously and I couldn’t eat a lot of it because I was ill. It was awful. It felt like an insult to the people I was working with at times when they’d prepare all this delicious food and I couldn’t eat any of it! “I was leaving for work at 7am and because of work and dialysis, I wouldn’t get home till 9pm. I could only drink 500ml of water on dialysis days too, which is nothing when it’s hot. Sam was gutted when she couldn’t give me one of her kidneys but Vincent’s was a better match so we had to go with that. “I can’t thank any of them enough. I’m very lucky. Whilst recovering I had to avoid shellfish, raw egg or unpasteurised cheese but now the only thing I can’t eat is grapefruit because it interferes with the anti-rejection drugs I take. “I’d encourage anyone to get a Donor Card. It’s not just kidneys but so many other organs that could save lives.” Paddy Tabor MVO, Chief Executive of Kidney Care UK comments: “Right now in South Yorkshire there are 120 people

24 currently waiting for a kidney transplant, and every single day in the UK one person will die whilst waiting for their kidney. This has to change. “Most people don’t want to think about their kidneys, but the reality is that one in eight people will develop Chronic Kidney Disease which can affect their general health and may ultimately mean they might need dialysis or a transplant in order to stay alive. “The average time waiting for a kidney on the transplant list is three years and there are almost 30,000 people on dialysis in the UK, a treatment that leaves patients hooked up to machines for hours at a time for several days every week, which has a knock-on impact on their ability to study, work, socialise and ultimately live their lives to the full. “Kidney patients constantly tell us that greater awareness of kidney disease and the impact it can have on their lives would be life-changing for them, which is why we’re calling on your readers to become kidney aware by visiting www.kidneycareuk. org.” For more information about becoming a living donor, visitwww.organdonation.nhs.uk/ about-donation/living-donation.

Views and access in the Longdendale Valley will be improved with the grant. WALKERS, cyclists and horse riders in the Longdendale Valley can look forward to more beautiful views and greater levels of accessibility in the coming years. Three national trails are set to receive an upgrade courtesy of a £200,000 grant secured by the Peak District National Park to help enhance access by creating disabled friendly circular routes and to reduce the visual impact of electricity transmission lines running through the valley. The grant has been allocated as part of National Grid’s Landscape Enhancement Initiative (LEI), which has set aside up to £24 million to support smallscale landscape projects in the 30 Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs) and National Parks across England and Wales that contain existing National Grid electricity infrastructure. Over a three year period, work will be carried out along three popular national trails – the Pennine Way, the Pennine Bridleway and the Trans-Pennine Trail – to reduce the visual effects of electricity pylons in the Longdendale Valley. The funds will also enable the Peak District National Park Authority to enhance access along the valley, particularly for users with a disability and for horse riders.

To refocus views away from the pylons, a number of new circular routes will be established as an alternative to the existing routes that follow the transmission line. Work will also be carried out to screen the line, including selective planting of locally-appropriate tree and shrub species, selective vegetation clearance and management and new seating areas, which will be specially designed to ensure they are inclusive for visitors with disabilities.

The LEI is part of the Visual Impact Provision project, which will make use of a £500 million allowance made available by Ofgem until 2021. The North York Moors National Park and High Weald AONB also received funding in this round of awards. In addition, National Grid is progressing plans under this allowance to replace existing overhead lines with underground cables in four protected landscapes.*

Rob Meetham, landscape architect, for the Peak District National Park, said: “As the UK’s original national park, the Peak District National Park is world-renowned for its spectacular scenery and beautiful landscapes, and we are pleased to have the opportunity through the support of the Landscape Enhancement Initiative to improve the access and enhance the experience for all those wanting to get out and explore the area.

Environmentalist and broadcaster Chris Baines, who chairs the Visual Impact Provision project’s national Stakeholder Advisory Group, said: “Through the LEI we hope to make a positive contribution towards preserving and enhancing the natural beauty, landscape character, cultural heritage, wildlife and biodiversity in England and Wales’ most precious landscapes.

“These improvements will provide opportunities for local people and visitors alike to experience and enjoy a more natural and wild landscape. We hope that our new disabled-accessible circular routes will enable new people to visit the area and experience the beautiful views for which the Longdendale Valley is known.”

“It was pleasing to see applications for the funding from so many inspiring projects. I look forward to watching their progress as they work to help to make these beautiful areas even more enjoyable to visit.” In June 2017, the next round of the LEI will be open for expressions of interest. Further information on who can apply and how to do it can be found at lei. nationalgrid.com.

The incident happened at about 3.15am on Tuesday June 13 when four men broke into the house in Moorend Lane, Silkstone Common, while the occupants were asleep. Once inside the house, the four men are said to have assaulted the couple, a man and a woman both in their 30s, before leaving empty handed. The man and the woman were taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries and have since been discharged. At this time, officers investigating do believe that this was a targeted attack. While we appreciate this incident happened in the early hours, police remain keen to hear from anyone who may have seen anything suspicious or who knows who could be responsible. If you can help, please call 101 quoting incident number 100 of 13 June 2017 or phone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111. The following night a home in Oxspring was broken into and two cars along with some other items were stolen. The residents say that a white estate car, possibly a VW Passat, drove past the house very slowly at about 9pm to 10pm. The car contained four men, one with spiky black hair and believed to be Asian. At 3.15 am, someone broke in, took two lots of keys and stole a black Seat Leon Cupra and a light blue Forrester. It is unclear if the two incidents are connected at this stage.

Railway group form study programme with university - passenger train spotted

THERE was a rare sighting of a passenger train on the tracks in Stocksbridge when UK Railtours put on a trip marketed as a Great Central Lament last week. Despite passing through the area, the nearest boarding point was East Midlands Parkway and most people boarded in London. Nowadays, more people from London have been up the line than locals. Don Valley Railway are a local group trying to get trains serving Stocksbridge once again.

They have entered into a three-year study programme with Sheffield Hallam University to allow students to study various aspects of the history and potential future of the line the Don Valley Railway. Alongside this, the programme will explore how the project can utilise new technology, deliver improved social cohesion and look at how creative and art can improve the appeal of the upper don valley as a place for visitors. The programme will include students studying various aspects of how the railway influenced

and still influences Stocksbridge, Deepcar, Ewden Valley, Oughtibridge as well as the urban section through industrial Sheffield and is presented. As part of this works will be exhibited by Students at Hallam Uni and it is hoped that this can extend up to venues in Stocksbridge and area. It is also hoped that local people can become part of this. Historic angles of the project will cover the history of the line and the development of Stocksbridge and link into key social history.

These include the history of Samuel Fox and the development of Stocksbridge alongside the construction of the Woodhead Rail Route, the tunnel and the influence of the Great Central Railway which in the 19th Century was the first organisation to propose a Channel Tunnel - all of which would have been directly linked to Manchester and passing right through. Don Valley Railway are always looking for volunteers for various roles. For more information, contact Chris Bell atchris153@btinternet.com.

Can you help?

STOCKSBRIDGE High School are proud to be founding members of the Cutler’s Ambassador Programme, a scheme which improves students work related learning skills by giving them opportunities to work within real life industry settings. With the support of local businesses, students on the programmes experience what it is like to work in their chosen industry through a series of visits, projects and a specially organised work experience placement. At the end of the Scheme all Ambassadors receive a Skills Passport recognising the skills they offer to potential colleges and employers. Next year students will once again be offered the opportunity to take part in three strands of the Cutler’s Ambassador Programmes. The first is NHS with NHS Ambassadors getting a real life experience of working within the NHS, from the practical to the day to day running. Sessions take place at the Northern General and cover aspects as diverse as a visit to the morgue to the importance of understanding mental health. This

year NHS Ambassadors have, amongst other things, raised money and led assemblies raising awareness of The Stroke Association.

Secondly, Engineering Ambassadors are lucky enough to work with companies across Sheffield to understand the importance of Engineering and the range of careers available within it. This year’s projects have included working closely with Parker on their innovation challenge, developing a robotic device to move objects around buildings and visited the Diamond Centre to see the future of Engineering, delivering a presentation about how young people can be a key part of this future. Finally, Cultural Ambassadors are lucky to be growing up in a city immersed in culture. Projects have been as diverse as pitching to Chief Executives from Sheffield Theatres about getting more young people to visit the theatre and working with producers from Red Tape recording studios to write and record their own song. The cost of the project each year for each student is £250, this has been fully funded by school. However, it is becoming increasingly difficult to fund the project

which also incurs extra transport and staffing costs in order to be able to take students out on trips and visits. The school believes passionately that schemes like these are essential if we are going to prepare our students for life beyond school. In order to help with this, this year the school are looking for volunteers to accompany students on visits and support students with projects set. Do you have an interest, skills or experience in the NHS, Engineering or the Cultural Industries? Do you have spare time during the day and an interest in taking students on industry visits? Can you help to inspire students to become work ready and excited about life beyond the classroom? If the answer to these questions is yes, the school would love to hear from you. Alternatively they are also looking for companies who may be able to offer sponsorship to Ambassador Students. If you feel you could volunteer your time or your company could offer financial sponsorship, please contact Mrs Finch (FFinch@stocksbridgehigh.sheffield.sch.uk). Any offers of help from our community would be greatly appreciated.

Awarded by Arts Council England, it is designed to help schools to deliver a high quality arts and cultural education and provides an excellent way to demonstrate this.

Mr Sly, Assistant Headteacher, commented: “At Royd, we feel we have a very exciting curriculum; we have invested heavily into providing CPD opportunities in the arts.

Miss Jones, Headteacher at Royd said: “We are delighted to receive the silver arts award! As a school, we believe every child should have the opportunity to cre-

“This academic year all classes have received a six-week block of dance. We have also worked closely with the Music Hub to deliver staff meetings on

signing and an African drumming workshop with KS1 children. “As part of our English cycle, we recognise that drama plays an important part in children retaining stories so we carry this out regularly – this has resulted in children attaining highly in their writing. Also the whole school participated in an arts week where a vast range of artists delivered workshops” Miss Jones, Headteacher, concluded: “Royd staff are committed to

providing the best possible education for the children. This academic year we have had 100% of lessons graded as good or outstanding. “It is really pleasing to see that carefully thought out CPD opportunities have had such a positive impact on teaching and learning. “We have already started looking at plans for the next academic year and remain committed to further developing staff and pupil’s skills.”

Ecclesfield Scout celebration

Lord Mayor Councillor Anne Murphy with Pauline Marsland ON Saturday June 17, 25th Sheffield (Ecclesfield) Scout Group embraced the Great Get Together a national celebration of our communities and togetherness inspired by the memory of the late MP Jo Cox. The Scout Group has boys and girls at all levels and from a range of different backgrounds and supports the scouting ethos of inclusiveness and togetherness. This Saturday saw over 100 people gather at the Scout Hut including young people and their families and scouting leaders, for their AGM and BBQ Events like these bring so many different people together and help build lasting friendships

and bonds within our communities. Also in attendance was the Lord Mayor, Councillor Anne Murphy, who dedicated the partly refurbished Scout Hut, by naming the building after two local heroes in the Scouting Community. They were Pauline Marsland, who recently reached an impressive achievement of 40 years service with Ecclesfield Scouts and the late Bob Brookes. MP Angela Smith presented the annual Bob Brookes Award to Cub Scout Jake Andrew. This award is given to the cub or scout that has always tried their hardest, in line with the scout promise, “I promise to do my best”.

To thank them for their support over the last few years, in helping with grant funding, also in attendance at the event were Jim Fulton of the Sheffield Town Trust, Michael Appleby Chairman of Ecclesfield Parish Council, Steve Wilson, Councillor for East Ecclesfield, Zoe Sykes, Ecclesfield Parish Councillor and Andy Bainbridge Councillor for East Ecclesfield. If any young people or adults would like to join 25th Sheffield (Ecclesfield) Scout Group, get involved in any way or can offer help with further fundraising they can be contacted at http:// ecclesfieldscouts.org.uk/ Alternatively you can talk to them in person at the Ecclesfield Gala on Sunday September 3.

THE award-winning Bolsterstone Male Voice Choir is staging a joint concert with Denby Dale Ladies’ Choir at the Venue, Stocksbridge, at 7.30pm on Saturday June 24. Both choirs are having a busy time. The Denby ladies, celebrating their 50th anniversary this year, took first prize in their section at the Eskdale Music Festival in Whitby in the spring and are holding a concert with the famous Black Dyke Band at Huddersfield Town Hall in October. Bolsterstone MVC has already raised £3,000 for charity this year from three concerts and will raise more at the annual charity golf day at Stocksbridge Golf Club on Friday July 7. Dransfield Properties are the main sponsor of the event, donating £1,000 for prizes.

The choir took part in the recent Tour de Yorkshire weekend in the district, sang at the balloon launch at Fox Valley of the Kilimanjaro charity climb earlier this month and last week performed at the shopping centre’s first birthday celebrations. The choir will open the Bolsterstone Village Fayre on Saturday July 1 and sing at the Wortley Beer Festival the next day.

HERBERT Joan Coultas

Joan’s family would like to thank everyone for the many messages, tributes and cards received from relatives and friends. The attendance of so many at the service was a great comfort to the family. Grateful thanks to all the district nurses and carers. Special thanks to Dr C Atkin, all at Valley Medical Centre and the staff at Alpine Lodge for the care given to Joan. Many thanks to Rev Hilda Isaacson for a lovely service that gave much comfort and to Fiona at T W Birks & Son for her kindness and efficient funeral arrangements.

Then believe it or not, two cousins (our mother’s sisters) were both admitted to hospital, both improved but not fully recovered. It does not rain, but it pours. During my lifetime I have suffered tragedies. Much worse than a normal death, ending in painful heartache. Which is a good job, not all of us have to experience. We just have to grin and bare it, like the old song, “Keep right on, to the end of the road.” Ditto, ditto, ditto... Yours Sincerely, Smith, Brook and Hudson.

Family Notices

I know that planning for the future is a very personal matter. Not everyone is able or wants to travel to an appointment in town to sort out their affairs. I can visit you at a convenient time in the comfort and privacy of your own home to discuss your circumstances. My visit and consultation is completely free and you are under no obligation

All my clients (and their families) that I have helped in the past have been very happy with my services and tell me they have gained great peace of mind knowing that they have sorted everything out.

If the car park is busy he will point out available spaces or let you park alongside the kerb at the front of the store. Recently as he was noting my registration number, a car pulled into a nearby space over the line and he went over and politely asked the driver to park it within the lines which they did. If you park over the lines it restricts space in the next bay and if you are unable to park within the lines in a normal sized car then you shouldn’t be driving. Noel Crosland.

Parking complaints Another victim of the Lidl parking fines adding to the rest of the complaints. Went in for milk and came out three minutes later with a £90 ticket slapped on the car because my car tyre was on the white line due to the car next to been parked towards one side of his slot. Lidl management recite “nothing to do with us”.... but really it as your leasing the land to others to profiteer on your customers. Lidl need to understand that these stunts will be costing them every week as I and other regulars will no longer be shopping there. The patrolman waits until you go and then pounces with the ticket.. Can Lidl or Europarks come and comment on their take on this to clarify if this guy is on commission. Can we also find if tickets are issued to the elderly or women ie/ selective to those who are less likely to confront this? Lidl has been welcomed by Stocksbridge residents and this is not what should be happening. The distress this has caused has been so upsetting and to avoid the nasty letters by refusing to pay I have paid the fine… £50 for early payment. Perhaps we should all be reading the small print on the signs or even better Lidl should print these in this week’s offers flyer. Shameful. Don’t want sympathy - just want Lidl to see this revolt. Trust others will be doing the same.

Your Letters

In response to the lady/man who wrote in last week about parking in Lidl, may I offer an alternative to boycotting the supermarket? Perhaps they could park inbetween the white lines and avoid the ticket? I have never had this trouble before, and found the letter very concerning for Stocksbridge’s cardrivers. Kind regards, Dill Watt.

The parks belong to Sheffield City Council, which has limited funds to make improvements; therefore many ‘Friends of ...’ groups have emerged, which work with the support of SCC but which are free to fundraise and apply for grants from a wide variety of sources (including EPC). This week, we take a walk through Hillsborough full of history and quirky features. It has one of the country’s top dog racing tracks, a casino, a leisure centre and a football ground – home of Sheffield Wednesday Football Club. Fans of architecture will find a few treasures too, such as the red brick church and the former Victorian swimming baths that is now a pub. But what we’re featuring here are the businesses that trade in the Hillsborough area. A hotspot for shoppers, Hillsborough has a wide selection of shops and businesses with easy transport links to the city centre and other areas of Sheffield. It lies at the point where the River Loxley and the River Rivelin flow into the River Don, making for a thriving place to visit full of history. Editorial Holidays Feature

Travelling with children - kid’s play! Many families with young children choose to avoid airports when going on holiday, because of the hassle of all the procedures and restrictions, and because it is easy to become stressed on a plane when your bundle of joy becomes everyone else’s nightmare. Most people would prefer not to sit near any child while in the cramped environment of a flight.

Plus, cruise and high-speed sailings often go direct to the holiday regions — avoiding the long drive through northern France to get to popular southern and Spanish resorts. Again, this keeps stress levels to a minimum, particularly when your children’s favourite CD fails to keep them occupied, and they keep asking the perennial question: ‘Are we nearly there?’ Being able to answer ‘yes’ has huge advantages.

But choosing not to fly doesn’t mean holidays have to be in the UK. There are many opportunities to visit the continent by train, or car and ferry, reaching destinations across France and Spain.

There are many activities available on board a ferry, too, so you can start your holiday immediately, and are free to move around while you cross the channel.

The benefits are many-fold: * You can enjoy the freedom of taking your own car packed with everything you need (or might need) for your family to make the most of their time away. * You don’t have to wait in the long queues for flights, and the excess baggage charges that often come with children’s paraphernalia. Plus check-in times for ferry crossings tend to be around 45 minutes before departure. * There is more space and freedom with this type of travel, meaning that young children can explore and let off steam more readily. * The bathroom facilities are easier to get to, making nappy changing a possibility rather than a test of ingenuity - as it can be within the small confines of aeroplane toilets.

Children are well entertained by most operators, with well-equipped play areas and a great choice of places to eat. Most ships feature a selection of play areas, games rooms, live entertainment and cinemas. During the summer holidays, ferry companies often provide live entertainment, such as game shows and pantomimes, on busier crossings. Also, dedicated children's entertainers offering close-up magic, balloon modelling and more are regular features of family-friendly crossings. It is possible on many boats to book en suite cabins. By day or by night, they give you a place to relax, sleep and store your belongings. They can also offer the opportunity for young children to get some rest, meaning they aren’t getting tetchy with the process of travelling - with the result that they, and their parents, arrive ready for the next stage of their holiday.

Sport & Motors ON Saturday, Birdwell Wheelers Dave Scargill got another top five finish in the 57 mile Clifton Road Race at Sheriff Hutton. Three riders got away from the bunch on the second lap and Scargill and one other tried in vain to chase the break down for 33 miles. Scargill won the sprint for fourth place on a day when the strong wind conditions meant only ten riders finished the race. Also on Saturday, Dan Taylor and Tom Booth rode in the Yorkshire RC 25 Mile Open timetrial at Boroughbridge on the old A1. Taylor’s time of 55.44 placed him fifth overall out of 53 finishers. Booth recorded a time of 1:02.44 placing 27th and first junior. Sunday saw 50 riders assemble at Wharncliffe Side for Birdwell

Wheelers Holme Moss 105 km Audax. They set off at 9am and had to battle ferocious winds as they climbed the famous Holme Moss ascent and descended into Glossop.

Mixed Results for the Green Army First XI bounce back to beat Totley Bent Totley Bent 176 all out (Andy Hibbert 4-73, Jake Vickers 3-42 & Jim Tomlinson 3-58) Stocksbridge 177-6 (Oliver Warren 57 & Jack Newton 45) Following back to back defeats, the first XI had slipped from second place to fifth place in Division One and were desperate to get back to winning ways as they travelled to Dronfield to play Totley Bent. On a very warm Saturday afternoon both sides were hoping to win the toss and it was Totley Bent who did and they needed no hesitation to send Stocksbridge out into the field. Despite the difficult conditions which favoured the batting side, Stocksbridge came out of the blocks well with Andy Hibbert removing one of the openers LBW in the second over of the match.

Opening bowler, Jake Vickers, wasn’t to be outdone by Hibbert as he twice sent the stumps flying out of the ground to reduced Totley Bent to 9-3 after six overs. Despite a wonderful start for Stocksbridge, Totley Bent fought back in an aggressive fashion looking to score runs quickly in an attempt to relieve some pressure. Totley Bent dealt mainly in boundaries on a small ground with a fast outfield however despite the runs being scored at a quick rate, the wickets also continued to tumble. The Stocksbridge bowlers continued to toil away in the warm conditions and captain Pete Broomhead elected to use a three pronged bowling attack with the absence of regular bowlers, openers Vickers and Hibbert along with the ever reliable Jim Tomlinson. Totley Bent were eventually bowled out for 176 with the wickets shared between the bowlers which has been a strong aspect on the bowling attack this season. Hibbert came away with 4 wickets meanwhile Vickers and Tomlinson came away with three.

After two disappointing batting performances in recent weeks, Stocksbridge were desperate to chase down the 177 set to win by Totley Bent. Stocksbridge however, didn’t get off to the start they had planned as they lost three early wickets. Opener Price was on the wrong end of a good delivery which set his middle stump back, Dave Smith took on a risky second run and ended up running himself out before Dave Codd misjudged one which also saw his stumps sent flying. Despite the chaos, opener Oliver Warren was going about his business well at the other end taking advantage of the fast outfield by scoring quickly and freely. Jack Newton was the man who joined Warren after losing the first three wickets and the pair set about the run chase with really class and ease. The pair rarely looked in any danger and the scoreboard continued to tick along quickly and in turn edge Stocksbridge closer towards the target. Warren brought up his 50 in good time before

The winner was Liam O’ Sullivan with a terrific eight under par. Runner up, also with a great round, was Paul Blake on four under par. Sunday June 11 was Ping Qualifying Day for ladies. This was won by Heather Evans and Eunice Turner. There was also a men’s Monthly Medal. Division One winner was David Buxton on one under par. Division Two was Martin Evans on four under par.

Wednesday saw a great field of 35 Senior players in the June Monthly Medal. The Division One winner was John Sykes on two under par with Mick Siddall runner up on one under par. Division Two was won by Frank Hines on one under par and runner up John Methley on level par.

Second XI fall to a disappointing defeat against Hallam Hallam 162-7 Stocksbridge 135 all out (Chris Ogley 52 & Luke Davis 38) Elsewhere, the second XI seemed to be cruising to victory before an uncharacteristic batting collapse from a side who had scored a lot of runs this season saw

Thursday’s Stableford competition was won by Alex Grimmer with Division Two going to Jonny Bradley. Competition winners for the previous week were as follows: Brian Langley twoday comp for men, won by John Siddall, runner up Neil Elliott. Ladies Buckley

Bowl won by Sue Hill with runner up Helen Moffett. Dragon’s Zigmund Toczek Trophy won by Noel Weaver and runnerup Terry Deakin. Last week, 12 ladies from Stocksbridge Golf Club, pus Dotty the Jack Russell, strode out for charity last week. The walk around Morehall and Broomhead reservoirs is expected to raise over £300 for this years Golf Club charities – Weston Park and No Panic, Sheffield. The walkers rounded off the evening with fish and chips in the Club House.

later being removed for an excellent 57. Newton was the next man to go as was removed for very useful 45 however his partnership with Warren had made Stockbridge strong favourites to go on and win the game. Captain Broomhead (21) was then sent back to the pavilion after picking out the man on the boundary despite looking comfortable. It was then left to the partnership of Jack Murfin (12*) and Steve Perry (16*) to see Stocksbridge home and secure the 25 points with relative ease to complete a very important 4 wicket victory.

News from Stocksbridge Golf Club SATURDAY June 10 saw 26 men from Stocksbridge Golf Club play for the Fox Trophy.

them fall to a 27 run defeat against Hallam. Hallam had won the toss and batted and were restricted to 162-7 from there 46 overs with two wickets each for Mark Wingfield and Under 15 Rowan Brearley as well as one wicket each for Chris Thwaites, Les Harris and another under 15 Jack Firth. In reply, Stocksbridge were 111-1 with Captain Chris Ogley (52) and Luke Davis (38) seemingly cruising to victory before a flurry of wickets saw them lose nine wickets for 24 runs as they were bundled out for 135. Next week the first XI face a difficult challenge as they welcome table toppers Parkhead to Bracken Moor who come into the fixture of the back of five straight victories. The second XI will hope to get their promotion challenge back on track as they travel to Telecom Sports looking to get back to winning ways.
