‘Contemporary Library’?

The re-adaptation of the meaning of the library is essential to plan the response to changes in urban contexts, especially in huge metropolitan cities. There is a massive willingness to dive into artificial intelligence and develop more skillsets and experiences other than conventional streams, which has benefited the tremendous boom of contemporary metropolises.

The drawback of this rapid shift into digital technologies is that there has been a distinction between digital literacy and knowledge which takes away the core essence of its benefits. The accessibility of these technologies and knowledge has become a discriminating factor in inclusivity and equality.

This is where a library could bridge the difference and play a strong role in integrating different cultural and technical backgrounds.

The Municipality of Milan and B.E.I.C has envisioned it to be a ‘library of the world’, where it not only enriches the city of Milan but also promotes unification and exchange of culture & knowledge in Europe for future generations. Its location’s identity would fortify its establishment as a scientific, cultural, and economic region of the whole European identity. It would naturally highlight historical establishments, languages, periods, movements, and other trends to the younger generations.

Hence, the library would not just be a generic “cultural space” but rather a multi-functional model of various forms of communications; traditional and model in an interdisciplinary atmosphere rich in simulation and interaction.
