The system uses electricity that is generated by a photovoltaic field and battery backup to power the house and a thermal system to heat the water, pool, towel rails, underfloor heating, and to cool the ceilings. “We wanted to make use of the sun as free energy, so we invested in a combined solar hot-water system, which gives us water-based underfloor heating for the winter months and pool heating for the summer months,” says the owner. She says they also invested in a solar power system that creates electricity with the sun, and can

Taking “green homes” a step further, the owners also invested in a borehole which allows them to be self-sufficient with their water supply and independent of the council water supply.

If there is anything that this property proves, it is that going green doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a luxurious and trendy home.

“Our previous home lacked space and natural light. Therefore we went for an open-plan, airy, light and environmentally green home. It was important for us to create a more free and positive space,” says the owner.

The interior of the home has been designed in such a way as to express life, colour and inconsistency. “At the same time, we aimed to showcase an aspect in each corner or room that combines the look of our home. In most parts, we went for a more modern approach and stuck to a grey palette with hints of vibrant colours to complement the abundance of glass and stainless steel.”

There are many beautiful and awe-inspiring spaces throughout the home, but one that stands out for this family is the entertainment area. “This is the biggest part of the home and it is all combined, creating a flow from the bar and dining area all the way to the outside braai/patio and pool area.”

When it comes to favourite spaces, the owner says it has to be the lounge, “as it holds the homiest atmosphere and it is where we as a family spend quality time after a busy day, enjoying a glass of wine with the fireplace as the centre point”. Q
