and would possibly consider Leonardo DiCaprio as a flatmate, she tells Nia Magoulianiti-McGregor JEANN IE D

I

am a TV host, a girl who lives in constant curiosity and a pursuit of magic. I’m a fiery Aries and the founder and owner of Finery Handcrafted Gin who loves sexy, moody music

I chose it because I needed a new space after I broke off my engagement. It wasn’t actually for sale, but the estate agent knew I would love it and insisted I see it. I had just landed from the USA, was pretty tired, but after I ran upstairs and took in the view, I made an offer on the spot.

The similarity between my home now and the home I grew up in is that while there was a lot more space and a massive garden in my childhood home, both homes are like busy train stations. The feel and heart is the same.

My favourite object in my home is my incredible mirror which lights up after I plug it in so it resembles a 3D tunnel. It’s where I repeat my affirmations every morning. They go like this: “I am youthful and timeless. I am happy. I am loved. My life is full of abundance and adventure.” My favourite artists include Lionel Smit and Frans Smit. My most loved pieces of furniture are the beautiful old wooden dinner chairs made by my father Tony which I reupholster and repaint whenever I feel like a change. I get bored easily. If I could do anything to my home it would be to raise the ceilings and make it double volume.

The best piece of decorating advice I have been given came from my godmother who said, “Don’t just buy furniture for the sake of it. Rather leave your home empty until you find pieces you love.”

My favourite style of entertaining is a combination. I entertain a lot so I either host formal dinner parties with place cards and fancy crockery or very informal dinners where I cook while people are already here. I’m not exactly an amazing cook but I can be adventurous – if I follow a recipe.

The music that helps me chill the most is my own playlist on Apple. I love deep house music that is sexy, moody or has a punchy beat. Music shared is energy shared.

If I were as rich as Oprah, I would live in an apartment in New York overlooking Central Park and maybe a villa in St Tropez. I’d also love to convert an old monastery in Lisbon into a home. I know a couple who did it. It’s completely classic on the outside and slick and modern on the inside.

If I had to choose a flatmate for a year, it would be Leonardo DiCaprio.

My favourite colour scheme, décor-wise, is monochromatic – mainly scales of grey – with colour coming from art and plants.

The one thing guests visiting me may not do is – nothing! There are no rules in my home.
