Although reminiscent of the Enchantment Under the Sea dance from " Back to the Future," it was actually the Blast from the Past dance on Saturday, Feb. 15, sponsored by the 40th anniversary committee in the gym.
The event got many rave reviews from students and faculty around campus.
"I had a ball. I really did," Nancy Costello, special assistant to the president for mission integration, said. Costello was very pleased with the turnout because a lot of community people and groups of alumni came to the event.
"A lot of us went around saying, 'Oh, do you remember when this song was a hit and when soand-so did this ?' The Greaseband connected songs to things that happened during that time," Costello said.
The Greaseband was able to please audiences of all ages. Faculty, staff, alumni and students were all invited by mailings and pamphlets sent out. The Greaseband covered songs from the 50s,

They pleased the entire crowd with such songs as "YMCA" by the Village People, favorites from the Grease soundtrack, the Bee Gees, KC & The Sunshine Band, Bruce Springsteen and the Beastie Boys."It was a success because that was our plan to bring the whole community together," Karen Bell, development officer, said.
Over 500 people attended the event. That is how many were expected, according to Bell.
"I was shocked at how crowded it was. I thought it was going to be corny at first, but I had a really great time," sophomore Kellie O'Neill said.
There was a 50s theme right when entering the gym doors. It was a replica of the l 950's sock hops, with popcorn stands, cotton candy machines, four beer gardens and hot dogs. There was a $3 door charge for students and $5 for non-students. "I want to see many more things like this on campus. The price was good too," O'Neill said.

The Cupid's Ball signified the gathering of valentines on Cabrini's campus Thursday, Feb. 13 in the Atrium. The proceeds went to a cause for couples not experiencing harmony and Valentine's day love. The proceeds went to domestic abuse.
Valentine's Day is about love, togetherness and good will. There are couples who do not get cards, kisses and hugs on Valentines Day.
There are people who are involved in relationships who get emotionally and physically abused every day including Valentine's day.

The groundbreaking of the new sports complex commenced this past semester and the construction crews have been working on putting in a water main that will lead from King of Prussia Road throughout the campus.
Construction of the center is scheduled to start in March, but crews are waiting for Cabrini to receive a foundation permit so the crew can work on the center.
Chief physical plant Officer Michael Caranfa, is keeping daily contact with the construction crew on the daily routines. Physical plant is now applying for the foundation permit and does not foresee any permit problem in the future of the Sports and Recreation Complex (SPARC).
Dr. Robert Bonfiglio, vice president of student development, has ceased talks with the construction crew and will regain contact in the summer when Cabrini starts to work on the interior of SPARC. Bonfiglio plans on picking the furniture for the new building by midsummer.

"We are on schedule and we have been really lucky with the weather this year," Caranfa said.
Construction will be affecting students from now until the first semester of next year, where onethird of the parking Jot outside of Grace Hall will be taken up by bulldozers and materials. The new parking lot, on the right side of the Atrium parking lot, is now open for students and staff to use.
"We are just waiting for the permits to come in," Mary Mulligan, production engineer, said.
The focus is to work with the areas that are open to us. There was a problem early on in the plans of SPARC with permits. The town commission held back permits due to a township code that does not permit the removal of trees for rebuilding on one's property.
'We are on schedule and plan to begin in March, depending on the permit," Mulligan said. 'We do not see any problem, but with the weather you never can tell."
"We want to know about any problems that students are having with the construction site. We want to work together with students and not want to make too many inconveniences for them," Mulligan said.
Physical plant and the construction crew are working together on making sure that there are no more delays in the plans of the project.

Pellicone was also found making sexual threats towards women living in the dorm rooms of lmmaculata's College, in Chester County, as well as seen being armed with a gun in the women's dorm room. Both incidents occurred on Monday Feb. 3 in the all-girl's dorm, where men are not permitted.
When the police arrested Pellicone, they found that he had a stash of guns in the back seat of his car that averaged $1,000. The guns range from a 12-gauge shotgun to a Ruger9riJm·bandgun.
When arrested, he was charged with harassment and with stalking. There were not any charges for his weapons, but his guns were taken away.
It was assumed that his threats were directed to death or sexual threats.
The college took action against the woman who allowed Pellicone in her room but did not charge her with anything.
Police are not sure about Pellicone's reasoning , but they have assumed that he wanted to keep the girl from being suspended or expelled.

No strike for pilots.
American Airlines pilots declared a strike yesterday after unsuccessful negotiations with
management. President Clinton, however, acted under the Railroad Labor Act provision to halt this.
Clinton ordered a 60-day "cooling off' period, which makes it illegal for any pilot to strike during this time.
Although the "cooling off' period will permit further negotiations, the economy will be temporarily shielded as well.
This marks the fust time that any president has had to iqterfere in an airline strike in over 30 years.

Though there may be a possibility that male fertility rises and falls in spurts, it does not change the fact that the substance on which procreation relies, namely spenn, is 50 percent scarcer than it was 12 years ago.
A study performed by Finnish scientists published in the British Medical Journal revealed that the number of men who can produce a normal number of sperm dropped from 56 percent in 1981 to 26 percent in 1991: Since 1992, scientists around the world have discovered a decrease in male fertility and a twofold increase in testicular cancer. In addition, prostate cancer is now the most common form of cancer in the United States. There are many theories on why male fertility is experiencing a downfall. The theories include change in diets, an increased estrogen level in the water, pollution and _tight_UJ.1derpants..JfQwever.
there are no definite explanations for this mounting problem.
Another problem that has risen, though it is undecided whether it is a result or cause of decreased male fertility, is the enlargement of the prostate. In the United States and the rest of the Western world, 8() percent of men experience an increased prostate by the age of 70.
Despite the fact that there are many theories and hypothesis on why there is an increase in male reproductive difficulties, none of the evidence can stand on its own.
The newest and most investigated theory came from the Institute of Environmental Health in Leicester, England. In a 1995 study, Lewis Smith, a professor at the IEH, said there is an uncertainty in the role-of xenoestrogens in sperm count. Xenoestrogens are a class of compounds used as a substitute for estrogen, the female sexual hormone. Those xenoestrogens can be found in the water supply and in male caot:q~.s.

Dick Starmann, senior vicepresident for McDonald's, intends on targeting more specifically in the future.
McDonald's has always been the center of attraction for kids, and everything from playgrounds to meals with toys. By attempting

A little faith on a mountain. In July 1995, a CAT scan revealed that 2-year-old Luke John Hooker had a tumor in his liver. After beginning chemotherapy sessions, a cancerous nodule was found on his lung. Bridget and Joseph Hooker, Luke John's parents, began taking their son on pilgrimages to Medjugorje, Bosnia. This is the sight of Apparition Mountain, where hundreds of apparitions of Mary have been reported over the years.
Just when Luke John's hair began to grow back, CAT scans revealed two new tumors: one in a lung and one on his liver. He died after being in a coma for 13 days, but his parents do not regret the faith that they put in a miracle. His mother says that it gave her strength to survive the ordeal.

"The Park" has taken over the computer lab and many students are flocking in just to see what it is and what it has to offer.
More than 50 different chat rooms exist where people can talk depending on their specific tastes. There is the hippie room, the sports bar, a poetry room and even age-related rooms ranging from teen chat rooms to a centennial room.
"If there are 10 people in the computer lab, at least eight of them are on 'The Park," sophomore Dara Coratto said.
'The Park," which is a website at http://www.the-net.com, is a common Internet site that students visit on a daily basis.
The most popular room among Cabrini students is the 20-something room, according to Coratto. She said there are many people her age in that room she can chat with.
Not only can people pick the room they want, they can also pick a personality. Before being able to chat to others, there is a personal
information box, which individuals can fill out in order to identify themselves.
A person can pick a nickname, gender, attitude and a location.
Gender choices include male, female, transgender and unspecified other. Some attitudes a person can pick from are angry, gloomy, aggressive, seductive, ravenous and sexy. The choice of location can be a tricky one. Some put in their destination, like which state they are in. Others choose places, such as in front of a fireplace or even on the Death Star in order to create a mood.
'The Park" offers a choice of discussion areas, such as spirituality and sexuality, celestine prophecy, politics and even an HIV/AIDS discussion room.
But, why should an individual choose this particular site? Brent N. Hunter from San Francisco, Calif., invented this site in order to increase communication among all people in the world, according to the premise on the web site.
However, Coratto said many people come into the chat rooms looking for cybersex.
The Park, located at www.phoenix@the-park.com, offers options ranging from chatting in a variety of rooms to virtual flowers and telegrams.
In fact, the special interest of "The Park"is the sexuality and spirituality discussion area. Even the logo on the web page involves sexuality.
According to Hunter, the star on the site represents a tunnel that leads to the white light. This white light represents the doors of sexuality, which then leads to ecstasy.
So why do Cabrini students like this site?
Senior Paul Marturano said this was the first site he was introduced to and it was usually bookmarked in the computer.

Sophomore Evanique Lindsey said she likes it because people can meet individuals from as close as Philadelphia to as far as Sweden.
Sophomore Aaron Treloar said 'The Park"is quicker than other chat rooms because he does not have to wait for it to reload every time someone speaks.
"It is even pretty quick on Cabrini's computers," Treloar said.

When Mohammed Bilal, a star of MTV's "Real World III," sat down to discuss issues of ethnic diversity with students and faculty on Monday, Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. in the Xavier Hall great room, he became part of that crowd.
Bilal used humor, poetry, stories, a 12-step program and facts to convey his message that people need to become more diverse in order to co-exist peacefully with other cultures.
According to Bilal's 12-step program, in order to progress toward becoming a more diverse person you first need to admit that you are an "inverse" person. An "inverse" person is someone who lacks diversity. Bilal compared the step of admitting "inversity" to the first step of an Alcoholics Anonymous program. He involved the crowd

Another important step in Bilal's program is to have knowledge of yourself and be comfortable with yourself as a person. Bilal said that making a family tree is an effective exercise people can to do to trace their roots.
Bilal emphasized that the ability to learn from experiences and teach others are key to becoming a more diverse individual.
Bilal stressed that the most important step to becoming a more diverse person is learning to distinguish prejudice from a founded dislike. According to Bilal, a founded dislike stems from, while getting to know a person, finding solid reasons to dislike them.
After presenting his 12-step program, Bilal shifted to poetry
to entertain the crowd. Bilal's poems focused on subjects ranging from his parents to an exgirlfriend. Bilal, who started writing poetry at the age of 12, will have his poems published next fall by Bantam Books.
Bilal discussed his recording career, his band's upcoming third record, which will be released nationwide, and his role on "The Real World III."
Resident director Steve Murray, who had met Bilal on a previous occasion, said, "I was most impressed with his informal style with the audience."
"Bilal did not hide what he had to say," John Lindsay, CAP board chairperson, said. "He put his message out on the table."
"Bilal's message was very fulfilling and gave me an added edge on my original views about diversity," sophomore Dana Lipps said. "Diversity is important in order to understand other cultures."
how does the show lend itself to attract unfamiliar audiences?
The problem with School House Rock as a live performance is that it does not incorporate the colorful and entertaining animation. Although it is highly unlikely to incorporate animation into a live performance, it would be nice if the actors could at least dress up like the cartoon, when portraying the characters in song and dance. The age group that would enjoy and benefit from the live performance the most would be younger generations between the ages of four and 10, since they will not have any preconceived ideas to compare it to.
The School House Rock Live cast includes Mickey Rodriguez, Scott Lee Lawrence, Stephanie Renee, Kimberly Rebfuss, Noah Sferra and Gayle Patterson.
School House Rock Live will be showing through March 30. For more information and to reserve tickets, call the Society Hill Playhouse at 21?;9,~}.~9irn ,., ;

AIDS certainly has become the most feared disease of the past few decades. However, it has drawn the public eye from many other serious medical threats.
Syphilis, according to some scholars, has been around since the earliest recorded history. It became a severe problem in medieval Europe. By the start of the 20th century, German doctors determined that syphilis is caused by a virus and developed a test to detect it.
Now, at the end of the 20th century, other Sexually Transmitted Infections have resurfaced in the confusion. Syphilis, one
of the most lethal of the infections has come back with a vengeance.
Syphilis is spread by any sexual contact vaginal, oral or anal. The symptoms of syphilis are a painless sore on the penis, vagina, mouth or anus. If left untreated. the sore will go away within a few weeks. However, the infection remains in the body. A few months after the first occurrence, new sores can develop. An affected person will also suffer from a rash, fever, hair loss, body aches, sore throat and swollen glands. Pelvic inflammatory disease may also occur.
Within a few years, an affected person will suffer from heart disease, brain damage and most likely death.
If a woman is pregnant and suffering from syphilis it can severely damage or kill the unborn baby.
A person can be tested for syphilis with a blood test and an examination of the sores. Depending on how long the person has had the infection, treatments can range from antibiotics to hospitalization.
The symptoms of syphilis, like those of all STis, except AIDS, will disappear with treatment. Time is the most important factor for anyone who believes he or she has an STI. If you are showing any signs of an STI, do not self-diagnose. Consult
your family physician or the Rooyman's Center staff for help or for more information.

by Michelle Burns assistant features editorAIDS. It is a word that everybody knows. Everyday there is information posted telling people different ways to work towards HIV/AIDS prevention. But how much do you really know about this deadly virus? If you wanted to lend a helping hand where could you go?
People usually do not develop many symptoms when they become infected. Some get flulike symptoms within a month or two after exposure to the virus. Symptoms include fevers, headaches and enlarged lymph nodes that might be shrugged off as the flu. But because these symptoms are so commonplace they are usually mistaken for those of another viral infection.
Other severe symptoms may
not surface for a decade or more after HIV first enters the body in adults and within two years in children. There may be a period of asymptomatic infection. That is when the person is a carrier of HIV, yet they show no symptoms. Some people can have symptoms within a few months ,when others take 10 years or sometimes longer. During this asymptomatic period, however, HIV is actively infecting and killing cells of the immune system.
As the immune system deteriorates, a variety of complications begin to surface. Usually the first symptom experienced is enlarged lymph nodes that stay swollen for over three months. Others happen months to years before the onset of AIDS. They include lack of energy, weight loss, frequent fevers and sweats, persistent yeast infections (oral or vagi-

v'You can kiss, cuddle, massage and caress each other's bodies. If you have cuts or sores on your hands make sure to wear plasters.
v'Oral sex carries some risk of infection. The virus could get into the bloodstream if you have bleeding gums or tiny sores in the mouth. However, infection from oral sex alone seems to be very rare.

nal), persistent skin rashes or flaky skin, pelvic inflammatory disease that does not respond to treatment or short-term memory loss. Some develop frequent and severe herpes infections that cause mouth, genital or anal sores or a painful nerve disease know as shingles. Children may have delayed development or failure to thrive.
New developments have occurred in reference to drug treatments. Dr. David Ho has come up with a new strategy to flush out the virus that causes AIDS. Ho and other doctors are trying a method called "cocktails." The treatment is using powerful new drugs called protease inhibitors in combination with standard antiviral medications. But unlike most doctors, he gives the combination therapy to patients in the first few weeks of infection.
Ho's patients' blood levels
dropped so low it can no longer be measured. When attacking early and not waiting for fullfledged AIDS to develop, there is a good chance that within two or three years the virus could be completely eliminated.
Eliminated is a strong word to use when speaking of AIDS/HIV. Though this strategy is still in its early stages, it should not be thought that someone is free and in the clear. There is still a lot of testing to be done.
There is also the problem that this method may only work within the first three months of infection. This same hope could not be expected with those in later stages of infection who in the past year have begun taking the same anti viral cocktails, often with encouraging results but whose AIDS is probably too far advanced for them to expect a long-term recovery.

"Be diverse for the sake of appreciation."
This statement gets directly to the heart of a matter our college and our nation as a whole needs to recognize and address.
Diversifying, according to Mohammed Bilal, known for his role in MTV's "The Real World ill," requires a number of steps to be taken in order for an individual to truly claim to be diverse.
You must first acknowledge your own personal lack of diversity, then take the necessary steps to get to know yourself a little bit better. This should help you get along with others '°~moreeasily.
It is also recommended we look for similarities in different cultures rather than be hung up on the differences which many of us are never able to get past Cultural differences act as a brick wall, in many ways, that prevent people from ever taking the initiative to explore another person's true being.
The stereotypes we develop by judging people on appearance alone are the very marks of ignorance that allow prejudice to persist and fester in our society.
I am walking down a city street in a neighborhood that is not in center city and a black man about my age is walking towards me on the same side of the street.
We lock eyes at about 20 fr., and contact is not broken until we pass each other. About five steps later I look over my shoulder only to see him doing the same thing.
What in tamation is he looking at?, was the first thought that came tomy mind.
His to, I am sure.
The tension, at least on my part, was thick.
That is not right, I thought. Dude has a problem with me just because I am white.
But wait a minute. I caught myself. I had a problem with him also, just because he was black. Because of some bad experiences I have had in the past, I have a hard time being trusting.
there is just something in my head that makes me think the young black stranger has nothing in his heart but contempt for me.
I think the situation with the 0.J. Simpson trial has a lot to do with it. It is actually kind of frightening.
It is no secret that black Americans have been oppressed in this country and continue to struggle for equality. But how does that justify being happy that a man who is known to be guilty of murder will walk free? How is that a victory for humankind?
Is it because he took the lives of two white people?
I do not know. But seeing people cheering in the streets of South and West Philadelphia on the day of the not guilty verdict really shook me and made me wonder, what good are they going to get out of this?
by Chris Lomanno perspectives editorhow the justice system, in general, helps keep poor people down.
It reminds me of some Wu Tang lyrics that go like this: "Cash rules everything around me." Is that a desirable state of affairs? Is it a good thing that a man can murder people and buy his way out of the penalty?"
It seems kind of clear that the reason for the joy is kind of like a moral victory. Like, "It is about time that we got a break."
I understand the sentiment, but I expect civilized people to be able to rise above such archaic thinking.
What it comes down to is that people need to communicate. We need to start speaking to one another on the street level. That is the only way we are going to be able to help each other overcome the barriers that keep us divided.
Some steps that can be taken to combat this affliction which has lingered in this country since its birth, are things like trav1

1eling and reading.
Obviously, traveling and reading will take you to places you never have been before. If you are physically in a new place, you are forced to adjust or you will be shunned, or at the very least, be made a fool of. By reading, you are absorbing the experiences of the ages, while being exposed to new situations. Somehow, some way, these will come back to help you out in ways you probably never imagined.
Experience is the only cure that will remedy this situation. People must go out, try new things and leave their inhibitions at home. This world has so much to offer that to block off any avenues would be doing yourself a huge disservice.
If anyone thinks the government is going to help solve the problem of race relations in this country, they are straight trippin'. The responsibility is truly ours.
Getting ready for the summer time, that waistline needs to drop. The season of dieting has begun. Just look at the commercials on TV, (Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, Baily's Fitness) and you know the pressure is on to lose inches, tone your body and shed pounds.
Your life will be perfect if you achieve your ultimate goal weight before Spring Break. Right? That's the message. Get thin and power, happiness, popularity and success are yours. No more low self-esteem, sadness, loneliness or rejection. Well, do you buy it (or at least part of it)?
In this culture, it is hard not to be influenced by such a strong and pervasive message. Weight and fitness devotees can actually make you feel morally deficient if you do not buy their creed that thin equals self-control and goodness.
So, if you already feel deficient in some area, it can be tempting to accept the simple idea that a thin body will make everything better. But beware, this idea has a price. The single-minded pursuit of thinness may feel safer and more manageable than tackling the real concerns (low self-esteem, depression, social fears, loneliness, family tensions) you have, but of course, it leaves your real concerns untouched.
Excessive exercise and obsessive thinking about food and calories also rob you of valuable time and energy, which you could have devoted to making your life more satisfying (i.e. skiing, reading, prayer, volunteering, ice skating, self-reflection, sky diving, conversation with friends).
There is nothing wrong with moderate exercise and attempting to eat a balanced, healthy diet. But
by Mary Anne McNallyLacour staff counselorI challenge you to ask yourself, honestly, to what it is you are striving for. Is your goal a healthy body that allows you to live a long productive life? Balance and moderation in diet and exercise are easier to achieve when your true goal is health and your motivation is selflove rather than radical selfchange.
Here are some questions to ask yourself if you are trying to determine if your habits are healthy. If you have an exercise routine, when you miss a day, do you feel disappointed or devastated? If you make a commitment to a lower fat diet and you eat a bag of french fries, do you see yourself as a bad person or human? (oops!)
How much are you willing to sacrifice for your diet/exercise routine? Beware of extremes, they may indicate that you are using diet and exercise for unrealistic goals.

Dear Editor: I have been deceived and defrauded by the IRS. Everything they have said or written has led me to believe that they were a department of our government and were collecting my income taxes for the government of the United States.
Now I find out that the IRS is a private corporation that collects and then deposits all my income tax money with the Federal Reserve Bank Inc., which is another private corporation. This FRB Inc. keeps some of my money to pay itself the interest on the national debt.
Then it hands the rest of my money over ·to the Governor-Secretary of Treasury of the International Monetary Fund Inc. of the United Nations, which is another private corporation. Then they give my income tax money to the U.N. Agency for international development.
That's why our government has to borrow so much money all the time. And who does our government borrow money from? That same FRB Inc., of course. Where does the FRB Inc. get so much money to lend Jothe government?
Well, our crooked politicians made a deal with the FRB Inc. to have the U.S. Government print up the money, give it to the FRB Inc. and then borrow it back, including paying interest on it. Why would the politicians do such a traitorous and stupid thing? Because they are rewarded with money and a supportive PRESS
at election time.
All of these private corporations were established by, and are controlled by Jews. With all that interest money the Jews have brought up our country, and much of the rest of the world.
That means that for over 50 years I've been tricked and defrauded into financing the schemes of the Zionist Jews who are positioning themselves to rule the world through the United Nations. The worst pa.rtof it is that wherever Jews have consolidated their power (as in the USSR and all the other Communist nations) they have murdered Christians by the hundreds of rnillions WACO style.
Enough is enough. I don't want these Anti-Christian Jews to rule the world. Therefore, I want to file a lawsuit against the IRS Inc. for fraud and demand that they either deposit all my future income taxes and all the income taxes that I have paid for the last three years, into the Treasury of the United States, or give me my money back and take me off their "cattle" list
If any one knows of an honest lawyer with guts enough to file a lawsuit against the IRS Inc. for me, please let me know.
Sincerely,

What do you do on a typical weekend? How about negotiating obstacles on a Leader's Reaction Course, finding locations with a map or compass or spending a night out in the woods?
Well, that is exactly what members of the Valley Forge Military College Army ROTC, "Black Knight Battalion" does.
The senior ROTC battalion, consisting of approximately 60
cadets and cadre, ventured to Fort Dix, N.J., for a field training exercise.
There, cadets received hands on training in areas vital to being successful future army officers.
The FfXs are a chance to use the skills taught in a classroom. ROTC is a highly successful program that educates young adults in the art of leadership.

It was just a mere two years ago when coach Tom O'Hara watched a young man take off around the track at University City High School. It was the school year of 1995-96 when Coach O'Hara took a trip down 195 and looked at an upcoming leader for Cabrini's track team.
John Colman began his first year of high school playing football as a small defensive back.
Colman played the fall season before joining the track team at University City High School. He began running the 100-yard dash, the 200-yard dash and the long jump in high school. He made allpublic all four years for University City and played both football and track all four years. Colman also collected seven allpublic trophies during his four years of high school.
Colman had decided to take a full scholarship to Delaware State College for football, until his
plans took a turn for the worse. Colmon had gone to look at another college in Dallas, and came back to find out that the scholarship had been given away at Delaware State.
It was about an hour or so later when the phone rang. On the other line was another leader of the track team getting involved in the sport that they love. Junior James Williams had kept in contact with Colmon for a couple of months after Coach O'Hara had checked out the young athlete. That day Williams told Colmon to get his things ready.
"You are coming to Cabrini," Williams said.
'That day I filled out an application. Cabrini was the only school that stayed consistent and followed up on me," Colman said.
Colman's first year at Cabrini was filled with both ups and downs. He was the only runner to make nationals last year. Colman had not been accustomed to losing in high school, but a chronic hamstring problem forced him to have his ups and downs last season.
He went to nationals and finished 11th place and was expecting to be all-American in Division III. Last year Colman faced the pressures of changing over into the NCAA from high school. He wanted to live up to the expectations that surpassed him.
'Toe pressure was too great and I slacked off last year. It was not until this season that I found my heart again," Colman said.
This year he is challenging himself to qualify in four events in the nationals: the long jump, the 100yard dash, the 200-yard dash and the four by one. Colmon has already qualified for the East Coast Athletic Championships (ECAC) this year and he feels that his goals are realistic this season.
One of the major keys in helping him have a successful season is the support of his teammates. Having a young squad that can produce takes some of the pressures off one athlete.
Colmon credits his success to the support his mother has given him throughout his life and to God.
In a game that had to be stopped several times for video replay and to break up physical scrums, the men's basketball team defeated Gywnedd-Mercy Wednesday, Feb. 12 by the score of 86-76 in the Sacred Heart gym.
Sophomore shooting-guard Sean Tait led the Cavaliers with 24 J?Oints, while first-year forward Tim Anderlonis and sophomore-center Cory Miller combined for 17 rebounds in a fiesty pre-Valentine's Day game.
The game was stopped at 11:38 of the second half due to consistent over aggressive play by both teams.
Head coach John Dzik insisted that Gwynedd~ercy senior .Percy Herring came off the bench to join in a center-court altercation, and requested the referees go to video replay.
The replay was inconclusive, which fueled each coach's displeasure toward the officials.
In the final seconds of the match, senior Ken Skitek was about to put the icing on the cake when he was body-checked dur-
ing a layup attempt by Gywnedd's Joe Donahue, an offcourt friend.
Donahue said the foul came in the heat of the moment, but Skitek did not think that was much of an excuse.
After Skitek went crashing to the floor, players from both teams converged around the basket and began pushing and shoving each other. However, no punches were thrown and the game ended without further incident.
Both coaches expressed their unhappiness with the referees as they felt the referees Jet the game get too physical.
"The refs let them kill each other. It was a poorly administered game on both sides," Dzik said.
Gwynedd-Mercy's head coach agreed with Dzik, but was more angry at his team's "lack of senior leadership," referring to their intense physicality.
Miller said that leadership and the team's maturity to not retaliate to Gwynedd's physical play were the main reasons why Cabrini won. Dzik attributed these factors, along with his strong bench play, as to why the Cavs won the game.
The Cavs extended their winning streak to a season-high eight games, and improved their record to 13-6 overall and 11-2 in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) games this season.
Cabrini led by 17 points in the second half, dominating the transistion game, rebounding and moving the ball quickly on offense. Gwynedd looked like they were ready to give up. However, the lead slowly began to disappear when Gwynedd- Mercy began to cut into it.
Rashaan Friend lead the comeback for Gwynedd. He was their leading scorer with 23 points.
Gwynedd-Mercy cut the Cavs lead to six points with just under one minute to play. However, that was the closest they would get as Cabrini sunk its free throws to secure the victory.
With the victory, the Cavs avenged an earlier defeat by Gwynedd-Mercy. According to the players, the team had played very poorly in their loss at Gwynedd-Mercy, and they came into the game with revenge on their minds.
When Kerry Kittles was selected by the New Jersey Nets as the eighth pick in the 1996 NBA draft, there was not nearly as much hoopla ~urronding him ,--.s some of the other players selected before him.
While all of the players selected before him were undeclassman, Kittles was one of the rare players who decided to stay in school for four years.
Kittles worked his way into the Villanova starting line-up ·,°ll'itbhard work and deterrnina• tion.
He learned Steve Lappas' motion offense and quickly became a superstar at 'Nova by
his junior year.
After being named 1995 Big East player of the year and named to most of the AllAmerican teams, Kittles' stock rose dramatically.
NBA insiders predicted Kittles would go no lower than the 15th pick in the NBA draft if he decided to bypass bis senior season and bead straight to the NBA.
Although it must have been very bard turning down the lure of millions of dollars, Kittles decided to stay in school for his senior season. It is now obvious that he made the right choice.
While rookies like Allen Iverson and Stephon Marbury are getting most of the attention, Kittles is quietly having a great rookie season.
NBA coaches and players are raving about the way Kittles has been conducting himself on and off the court. Some coaches and
players are calling him the best rookie.
In my opinion, Kittles did it the right way.
He got an education, matured, and prepared himself for the NBA by staying in school all four years.
If Kittles had come out after his junior year, I am not sure he would have enjoyed the success that he is having this season.
The biggest compliment you hear about Kittles is that he is a fundamentally-sound player. However, the same cannot be said about most of the underclassmen who make the early jump to the NBA.
Perfect examples of this are Iverson and Jerry Stackhouse.
Iverson and Stackhouse both decided to leave college after their sophomore seasons. ,
Both players have great physical skills and are wonderfully talented.
Although both players have shown they can play with the best the NBA bas to offer, I think both of these players should have stayed in school for at leat one more season.
I base this opinion on the outrageous number of turnovers these players have.
Iverson is averaging close to five turnovers a game and Stackhouse is averaging around four turnovers a game.
Instead of making the easy play, Iverson and Stackhouse often try to make the spectacular play.
In time, both of these players should become superstars. However, right now they are too young and inexperienced.
If they bad chosen to remain in school for at least another year, they would have been better equipped to handle the NBA game.
I know many people feel
there is nothing wrong with underclassmen jumping to the NBA.
They say the money is too good to pass up.
My response is that the money will still be there if they decide to stay in college an extra year or two.
If they are afraid of injury during play, they can buy an insurance policy to protect themselves.
Although there are some young players who are ready to make the jump to the NBA, the fact remains that most young players have a hard time handling the change.
With all these underclassmen coming in, the impact NBA rookies are having on teams is becoming less and less.

Approximately $6 million to $7 million in gels will be sold this year according to Gary Erickson, chief executive of Kali SportsNaturals of Berkeley, Calif., the maker of Shot energy gel.
But, locally, not many know about these gels, according to Mark Stayton, manager of the Under the Sun Natural Food store in Broomall. His store does not sell a lot of these products.
They are used by people doing strenuous physical activity like biking to provide the muscle with energy needed to burn, Stayton said.
It is a complex carbohydrate product, Stayton explained.
Sixty percent is complex and 40 percent is simple carbohydrates. Sugar is used for endurance, but at first it provides an initial burst of energy, which is the complex carbohydrates.
Caffeine is an ingredient, although it may be listed as Guarana, a Brazilian herb. It is
not uncommon that the product will not list caffeine, like the ingredients of coffee only list coffee, not caffeine. The benefit of caffeine is endurance.

0 With their 48-47 victory over Alvernia, the women's basketball team clinched first place overall in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) and gained home field advantage throughout the PAC playoffs. The Lady Cavs will be hosting the PAC championships which begin on Tuesday, Feb. 25. The semi-finals will be held on Friday, Feb. 28 and the finals will be held on Saturday, March 1.
Senior captain Megan Dillon continues to lead the women's basketball team and the country in assists, as she is averaging 7 .5 assists per game. Dillon has become the Lady Cavs all-time leader in assists, steals and rebounds this season. The track and field team will be participating in the Kutztown University Invitational meet on Sunday, Feb. 23.
Sophomore center Melissa Posse is currently second in the PAC in both scoring and rebounds. Posse is averaging 23.9 points per game and 10.8 rebounds per game.

0 The men's N basketball team plays their final home game of the season against St. Joseph's University JV team on Monday, Feb. 24 at 8 p.m.

!Thursday, February 20, 19971 Egan. The victory clinched first place overall in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference.
With 10 minutes to go in the second half and Cabrini trailing by three to a very confident Alvernia team, the game seemed to be lost. But two straight NBA-range three pointers from scrphomore guard Janice Egan gave the Lady Cavs the confidence to take the lead and win the game, 48-4 7.
According to sophomore center Melissa Posse, the game was full of trash talking by Alvernia and a lot of bumping in the post.
Posse scored 25 points and collected 17 rebounds, but shot only IO of 21 from the field. The team as a whole shot 34.6 percent from the field and only 33 percent from beyond three-point land (6 of 18).
With the horrific shooting and physical play. the Lady Cavs looked as if they were not going to pull this game out.
Alvernia point guard Christine Ansbach kept driving the right side of the lane and getting easy layups and foul shots.
Also, Alvemia kept doubleteaming Posse whenever she was
fed the ball, which seemed to cause confusion for the Lady Cavs.
The Lady Cavs won the game because their defense. in the end, was too much for Alvernia. Egan's three-pointers helped calm everyone, including the trash-talking April Stubbs, the backup center for Alvernia.
Also, th~ Cavs held Alvernia to 29.5 percent shooting from the field.
Only one of the Alvernia players shot over 50 percent from the field. Speedy defense from the Lady Cavs. especially guards Jackie Pierangelli. a first-year student and Egan, helped shut down Alvernia's inside game.
Since the game "Yasso low in scoring. no one player took over all the stats. Posse led the team on the SL, reboard. but senior forward Megan Dillon played all 40 mmutes of the game.
Dillon led the team with six assists. She also handled the ball up when Alvernia was pressuring on defense.
Even though the game was not played up to standards, the Lady Cavs are now the elite powerhouse in both conferences
of the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference. Alvernia is undefeated in the Northern division of
the PAC. but Cabrini is undefeated in and against both PAC divisions. Seniors Kelley Kempton
Some people are taught by their teachers and coaches that the future is theirs to take. They may take that advice and with it wish to have a glimpse of where they are going.
Sophomore center Melissa Posse is one of those people.
Posse started playing basketball in high school gym class.
She said she always wanted to play and her gym teacher assured her even more that it was a good choice. She could not foresee the future then, but today it is brighter
than ever.
Posse has scored point after point the past several weeks. She scored 33 points in the game against Immaculata, which led the team to an 84- 74 win.
On Saturday, Jan. 25, Posse scored 35 points and the Lady Cavs won 97-43 over Cedar Crest.
In the Lady Cavs thrilling 4847 victory over Alvernia, Posse led the Lady Cavs with 25 points and 17 rebounds. scoring more than half of the team's points.
Posse's future is bright, yet it does not blind her from seeing the basket and sinkmg the shot.
She set a school record for most points in a game when she scored 43 points in the Lady
Cavs 90-47 thrashing over rival Eastern.
Along with averaging over 21 points a game, Posse is also second in the nation in shooting percentage, and is currently shooting over 62 percent from the field.
Although Posse is having a great season individually, she has set her team goals first.
"I would like to win the PAC," Posse said, "and a couple of games in the NCAA"
Along with having a great season in scoring, Posse is also averaging almost 12 rebounds per game.
According to Posse, her rebounding is just as important to the team as her scoring
because the Lady Cavs are smaller than some of their opponents.
Cabrini coach Dan Welde told the Philadelphia Inquirer, "Last year Posse had work habits of a high-school player. This year she understands that she has to work hard in practice to improve her game."
Posse is currently on pace to score her 1,000th point this season. Recent Cabrini graduate and all-time leading scorer Billy Carr did not score his l ,000th point until midway through his junior season.
The Lady Cavs are currently having one of their best seasons ever, as they have a record of 192 overall, including a perfect 15-
0 record in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference. Posse's inside play has opened up the perimeter game for the Lady Cavs guards.
Sophomore guard Janice Egan and senior guard Kelly Kempton are two players who especially have benefitted from Posse's inside game. With Posse attracting double and triple teams, both of these players have been getting good looks from three-point land and are capitalizing.
Posse and others may not be able to see the future but the prediction many have is that she will keep scoring the points and grabbing the rebounds.
