Alex Trebek, ‘Jeopardy!’ host, dead at 80 BY LAYAL SROUR LIFESTYLES EDITOR
After 37 years of hosting and more than 8,000 episodes, America's favorite game show host, Alex Trebek, has passed away. Trebek has been battling stage 4 pancreatic cancer since March of 2019. Trebek's Journey to "Jeopardy!" In 1961, Trebek landed his first job as a "fill-in reporter and newscaster with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, CBC TV." Then, in 1966, he moved from journalism to hosting game shows, where he was the host of "Reach for the Top." This show consisted of "teams of high school students against each other in academic competitions." In 1970, he went on to host the Canadian show "Jackpot." By 1973, Trebek left his home in Canada and moved to Hollywood, California to further his game show host career. During that time, he hosted his first American game show "The Wizard of Odds," which only "lasted for one season." He got the gig from Alan Thicke, actor from "Growing Pains." From 1974-1976 and 1978-1980, he hosted the game show called "High Rollers, which was aired on NBC." He hosted the show "The $128,000 Question" from 1977-1978 and "Pitfall" from 1981-1982. "Wheel of Fortune" creator, Merv Griffin, reached out to Trebek in 1984 asking him to host "Jeopardy!" The game show consists of three contestants where the "clues were offered in the form of answers and contestants answered in the form of questions." The first time the air showed was from 1964 to 1975, but ended after that, until Trebek became the host in 1984 making it "one of the most popular game shows in television history." Black Friday during the COVID-19 Pandemic BY HANNA HYLAND STAFF WRITER
With COVID-19 hitting its ninth month in the United States and infecting millions of Americans across the country, shoppers are wondering what this will mean for Black Friday. Retailers are dealing with the challenges of still reaching sales goals but also keeping everyone safe while shopping. They are dealt with the struggles of how to handle a holiday under these circumstances. This is something that is new to everyone and still very unknown. Large stores such as Walmart and Target have decided to spread out their Black Friday sales over the course of several weeks. This is to ensure safety for both employees and shoppers. Features like contactless payments, shopping reservations and curbside pickup will be offered at stores around the country. Walmart stated that health officials will be stationed at all entrances to ensure people are following safety protocol and wearing masks. Macy’s is also offering a same-day delivery deal through DoorDash. While their stores will still be open they want everyone to feel safe and do what is most comfortable for them. Mel Bratun, senior human resources student, is the manager at Love Obsessed in the King of Prussia Mall. Unfortunately, this small boutique is closing its doors this week due to the lack of sales that have come from this pandemic. Bratun stated that the negative of working in a mall is you have to follow the mall hours and it came to a point where “We were spending more money on payroll than we were profit wise.” Kate Thompson, senior business management student, also works in the King of Prussia Mall
and states “the mall has not been the same.” Thompson added that it has become rare for her store to hit their sales goals each day. With shortened hours, employees have been struggling with working less. This has been a common theme for many stores around the King of Prussia Mall seeing several stores closing. Smaller stores seem to be struggling the most compared to cheaper and larger stores like Primark and Forever 21. Small boutiques especially cannot afford to have their prices be as cheap as many larger clothing businesses’ which has really negatively affected them. Vic Monterosso, senior international business student, works at Golf Galaxy in Berwyn, Pennsylvania. She said that in previous years the store typically does a 25 percent off sale on Black Friday, but with COVID-19 they have changed this to smaller deals over the course of a week. Monterosso said, “Luckily for us, golf is one of the only things people can do right now, so our store has been pretty busy throughout the golf season.” Golf Galaxy is planning for a large number of shoppers but also planning safety protocols. She believes with the deals spread out, it will be safer for all involved.

Students plans to come back after Thanksgiving break BY JYAIR FIELDS STAFF WRITER With the pandemic going on, it has made colleges and universities think of different ways to keep students safe. Some colleges have been completely online this semester. Some schools have done in-person classes, such as Cabrini. This has created a dilemma when it comes to Thanksgiving break. Thanksgiving break lasts a little less than a week and then students will come back for a short period of time for another week of classes and finals. After finals students can return home for a month-long winter break. This has created problems for universities. Colleges and universities debated on how to resolve the possible issue of students bringing back COVID-19 by going home and being around family members and friends. This was something schools really had to think about to keep their students safe once they get back to campus. The solution they came up with was to send the students home for Thanksgiving break and having the rest of the semester as well as finals online. Cabrini is giving the students the option to come back to campus to finish their online classes in their dorms. This can be a good option for students because they can still have that on-campus environment while finishing the rest of their classes before winter break. Although some would want to come back, some other students may not feel comfortable. See Thanksgiving, Page 4
While online sales are expected to increase up to 35 percent, stores across the country are still planning for thousands of people, long lines and lots of deals. When shopping, health professionals are urging everyone to wear masks, keep socially distant and definitely bring hand sanitizer. HANNAHYLAND6@GMAIL.COM

Happy holidays from The Loquitur
BY MARIA LATTANZE, MEGAN FEE AND FAITH PITSIKOULIS EDITOR-IN-CHIEF, WRITING MANAGING EDITOR, MEDIA MANAGING EDITOR
While it is important to stay safe and have fun for both your physical and mental health during this holiday season, it is also important to do so in a safe manner this year.
that makes us just as excited. Some commercials are repeats but are classics, such as the Hershey Kiss Christmas commercial.
With COVID-19 cases rising, it is important to follow CDC guidelines to protect yourself and your loved ones during the holidays. However, this does not mean that you can not still celebrate by taking part in lower-risk activities to get into the Christmas spirit.
Baking is always a must during the holiday season, but why not start a little earlier? Besides, who can resist the smell of freshly baked cookies? Chocolate chip, sugar, oatmeal, gingerbread, the options are limitless. And, on top of baking the cookies, let your creativity shine by decorating them with icing and sprinkles. Even your little ones can join in the fun, but be prepared to clean afterwards. It’s a great way to keep them occupied for a while. Also, after baking, your house is left smelling like cookie heaven for hours.
How you can be safe during the holidays: • • • • • •
Wearing a mask that covers your mouth and nose Standing six-feet apart and social distancing Washing your hands Avoiding unnecessary travel Have small, limited gatherings Taking part in lower risk holiday activities
Keeping holiday traditions are important for emotional wellbeing. This year has been stressful for everyone and counting your blessings is one way to kick off the season. Holidays are a time to celebrate the positives in life and connect with friends and family, albeit this year virtually for everyone’s health and safety. Music Christmas music is a fun and simple way to also get into the holiday spirit and it has already started playing on 101.1 FM radio. From the classics such as Nat King Cole’s “Chestnuts roasting on an open fire” to more recently recorded songs such as Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” and Ariana Grande’s “Santa Tell Me.” Some songs hit different, especially on the car ride home from work, the Christmas music places your excitement through the roof. Or when you begin to decorate the house for the holidays, some songs help make the process more exciting. Decorating Even though Thanksgiving has yet not taken place, it is still a great time to start decorating for Christmas. Even if it is only a little around the house. Better yet, the weather has been surprisingly nice and it’s a great time to set up the outdoor Christmas decorations in order to prevent doing it in the cold. Whether it is indoor or outdoor decorations, blast the Christmas music and start decorating for the holidays, and don’t be afraid to sing and dance while decorating. Movies Hallmark has become quite the place to watch Christmas movies, but nothing tops Freeforms 25 days of Christmas. Freeform takes it back to “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” “A Year Without a Santa Claus” and of course “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.” They do also have more recent movies such as “The Santa Clause 1, 2 and 3,” “A Christmas Carol” and “Home Alone.” So take a day to bundle up in a Christmas onesie or pajamas, wrapped in a blanket with hot chocolate and binge watch your favorite Christmas movies.

Santa Pictures As for the young children this Christmas season, Santa is still making his way to different plazas and malls to see them all before his big night. The Plymouth Meeting mall has a large set up where children can safely meet Santa and the children also have the option of meeting the big man in red virtually. Santa Claus plays a huge role for the children and there is no stopping him from seeing all the good girls and boys. He has found a way to safely see all the children in time for Christmas. In order to find where Santa will be next, Valley Forge and Montgomery County have made safe events to see Santa before the big night. Christmas Spirit of Mother Cabrini The Mother Cabrini Messenger wrote in December 2018 that Mother Cabrini received “new encouragement, new energy and enthusiasm” each time Jesus came to her. God sent us his only son, but He did not send him to us “in power.” In her journal in 1903, Mother Cabrini wrote that Jesus was not sent to us with glory, power, riches or comfort. “...He preferred to be born deprived of everything, in an uncomfortable place, in a raw season at midnight, shivering and deprived of all kinds of comfort to show us an example of the way that leads to heaven, that is, the way of humiliations, poverty and suffering.” Christmas time reveals the love inside human hearts, the joy that can flow throughout and the peace we can bring others. “Joy is a heart erupting and overflowing with the power and riches of everlasting love.” At the end of a very difficult year, may God bring you and your family new encouragement, energy and enthusiasm for the years ahead. May this Christmas remind us all to stay inside with the ones we love, keeping those we hold dearest to our hearts safe, and those we do not know even safer. Perhaps, there is no greater act of his power and everlasting love than this Christmas! MLATTANZE1199@GMAIL.COM MEGANFEE17@GMAIL.COM FAITHPITS4@GMAIL.COM

Walking around a recently decorated store usually puts us in the mood to do some Christmas shopping in November. It helps individuals stay on top of things during the busy holiday season. From holiday sales to decorations for the house to fake trees that light up different colors and sing Christmas songs. These are the type of decorations that send butterflies in your stomach and an anxious, exciting feeling for the holidays. And even if you can not go to the mall to see these decorations, there are Christmas sales on television with actors and actresses dressed in Christmas accessories
Thanksgiving Some students would find it difficult to go home and finish classes online because of other distractions such as parents or siblings. Some would rather have more peace and quiet to focus on their work and studies. Students also may not have access to a computer or Wi-Fi at home. With everybody’s situation being different, it makes it a good option for some students to come back after Thanksgiving break. “I am coming back after Thanksgiving to finish classes because I cannot focus being at home and doing schoolwork,” Deja Gillis, senior exercise science major, said. “Most of the friends who are in my major will be staying at school so we could help each other out with homework or studying.” There are also many students who live off-campus, which gives them the option to come and go as they please. “I will be living in my house off-campus after Thanksgiving break because I can focus on school and finals,” Casey Scheuren, senior marketing major, said. “I

will also be staying there throughout winter break because then I can keep working.” Not only has Cabrini made classes completely online after Thanksgiving break, they also made winter break even longer. Cabrini has decided to take away spring break and add an additional week to winter break, so students again aren’t going home or other places and coming back and possibly bringing the virus back. With cases rising daily, colleges must take precautions to put their students in the best position to be safe and be able to finish the school year with in-person classes. Some students do not want to come back because they are not comfortable. For some people it is good to have that option but for others it may be hard to choose. “I honestly wish they would tell us what to do,” Miranda Leibtag, sophomore education major, said. “Since they are giving me the option to go home I think I am going to go home.” FIELDSJYAIR8@GMAIL.COM

Pope Francis discusses same-sex civil unions BY RYAN CODKIND STAFF WRITER
The pope, in a scene from an upcoming movie, said he believes in legal protections for same-sex couples. Later interpretations by Vatican spokespersons said the pope was not intending to contradict the Church doctrine with regard to same sex marriage. Recently, Pope Francis was featured in a documentary entitled “Francesco,” which had its first viewing on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at the Rome Film Festival. The documentary was directed by Evgeny Afineevsky and looks at people whose lives have been impacted in some way by the pope. One specific topic that was included in the documentary was tied to the rights of the LGBTQ+ community with regard to family life and the legal protections they should be afforded. As stated in the New Yorker, they mention that the documentary highlights Pope Francis saying, “homosexual people have a right to be in the family. They are children of God. They have a right to a family. Nobody should be thrown out of the family or made miserable over this. What we have to make is a law of civil coexistence, for they have the right to be legally covered. I stood up for that.” Over the past few weeks, Pope Francis’ comment in the documentary has gotten a lot of people talking about what he is implying with his words. Some people believe that the comments made in the documentary demonstrate Pope Francis’ support for the LGBTQ+ community and their right to same sex marriage, while others believe his words were referring to his belief that everyone is entitled to a civil union that gives legal protection. There are others who feel that his comment is in conflict with the Church doctrine. There has been a great deal of discussion as a result of these various points of view. “Pope Francis has NOT in any way challenged or changed the teaching or doctrine of the Roman Catholic Church about someone with a same-sexed attraction,’’ said Professor Leonard Norman Primiano from the department of religious studies. In response to the difference of opinions circulating as a result of the pope’s comments, the Vatican has taken the step to further clarify the meaning behind his statement. This was because they were concerned that his comments might have been taken out of context. They highlight that Pope Francis’ statement is actually two different quotes that were put together as a single response. NBC News included a statement by Coppola in their article that said, “more than a year ago, during an interview,
Pope Francis answered two different questions at two different times that, in the aforementioned documentary, were edited and published as a single answer without proper contextualization, which has led to confusion.” Therefore, Pope Francis’ statement in the documentary might not accurately reflect what he was trying to convey. The Vatican confirmed that the pope does believe in legal protections for same-sex couples, but was not intending to contradict the Church doctrine with regard to same sex marriage. This shows how the Vatican is highlighting a difference between civil unions and the institution of marriage. While civil unions afford same-sex couples state protections, it does not mean that they are recognized at the federal level. This differs from marriage where couples are recognized everywhere. There are also differences in the kind of benefits that people are entitled to when married as opposed to those that are available in a civil union. “The pope feels that gay couples deserve civil, that is CIVIL, or social or legal protections in the secular world to maintain just treatment for all people economically, especially in terms of health care,” said Primiano. While discussions are ongoing on the interpretation of Pope Francis’ words, the Vatican attempts to reinforce the fact that these comments do not change anything in regard to Church doctrine. However, his words do show that the pope is giving a lot of thought about the issues surrounding civil unions for same-sex couples. “The mere fact that the pope discusses seriously and thoughtfully such contemporary issues shows how significant he finds them and how he always wants the Church to defend the same civil rights for everyone and most especially people who are underrepresented in society whether sexual, racial, economic, gendered, ethnic underrepresented people” said Primiano. While it is a complex discussion, it is clear that the Church doctrine remains unchanged. However, what has become clear is that the pope supports civil unions and legal protections for same-sex couples. MC1214@GMAIL.COM

Jeopardy! Trebek's Awards and Book The Internet Movie Database (IMDb) has listed all the years and accomplishments for the entirety of his career. In 1999, Trebek received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He also won the Online Film and Television Association (OFTA) award for best host of a game show in “1997, 1998, 2008, 2009 and 2019.” Trebek was also the winner of the Daytime Emmy award in the outstanding game show host in 1989, 1990, 2003, 2006, 2008, 2011, 2019 and 2020. In one part of the memoir, Trebek described himself as “family more than an outside celebrity who comes into your home to entertain you.” From his time on “Jeopardy!” as a host, he said, “Viewers have gotten used to having me there, not so much as a showbiz personality but as an uncle.” When mentioning his cancer diagnosis, he said, “I don’t like to use the terms battling or fighting when talking about cancer. It suggests there are only two outcomes: winning or losing.” As for his family, he wrote about the time he found out

The 'Wheel of Fortune' brings a new 'spin' with a celebrity version BY ANNA SCHMADER STAFF WRITER
The "Wheel of Fortune" is spinning their wheel a different way with a celebrity version. After the network saw the ultra-successful “Jeopardy! Greatest of All Time” tournament, the Wheel wanted to bring their show to prime time with this new change. The game show has been on air since Jan. 6, 1975, making it to 45 years of showtime. Pat Sajak and Vanna White have been the hosts pulling in 25 million-plus weekly viewers, averaging at 23 million. It has become one of the most popular television shows in the world with many achievements and awards like their first Daytime Emmy in 2011 for “Outstanding Game/Audience Participation Show.” What is it? The “Wheel of Fortune” is a game show that features three contestants who compete to solve word puzzles. The goal is to amass the most money and prizes by solving word puzzles after multiple rounds. A large carnival wheel, spun by each contestant in turns, denotes dollar amounts or prizes awarded for correctly suggesting a letter within the word puzzle.
contestants, staff, crew and talent from the spread of COVID-19. Furthermore, it now features a redesigned wheel to ensure that contestants are six-feet apart. There’s a new curved monitor that surrounds the Wheel and contestants are given their own “spinning cap” — a cylinder-like device that covers each spike on the Wheel so that no one directly touches it to potentially spread germs. Lisa Franks, French adjunct professor, believes the celebrity version might make it more interesting. “It seems like a good way to market the show and bring in new viewers,” Franks said. One way she’d be interested in watching is if a celebrity she likes and follows their work was featured then it’s a possibility. For more information go to TheWheelofFortune.com ANNASCHMADER1324@GMAIL.COM
How is it played? It’s played with three contestants that compete during three rounds to solve hangmantype word puzzles. At the beginning of each round, contestants are given a category such as a phrase, person, place or object that consists of blank spaces they must fill in with the correct letters. After a random selection to see who begins, contestants take turns to either spin the carnival wheel and guess a consonant, buy vowels from their earned winnings or solve the puzzle. At the end of three rounds, the contestant with the most cash and prizes becomes the winner and moves to the game’s bonus round. The “Wheel of Fortune” has had a ‘celebrity week’ featuring stars like Neil Patrick Harris, Paula Deen, Sherri Shepherd and others. Now, the show will see more Hollywood stars playing for a chance to win up to $1 million. The winnings will be donated to the contestant’s charity of choice. There are no other details including contestants or an air date that have been revealed. For some potential viewers, this new primetime might pull them into watching the show more. Rachel Virtue, junior biology major said, “I definitely think this is a nice change-up for the show.” She believes it will benefit the “Wheel of Fortune” since viewers will be more likely to watch if they see their favorite celebrity. Gerald Haftmann, junior business major, said, “it will be fun to see celebrities play the game and see the money go to a good cause.” Haftmann mentioned comedic celebrities playing and watching that take an interesting spot on the show. Even though he doesn’t watch it as much as he used to, this could spin his attention back to the program Keeping in mind the current circumstances, the “Wheel of Fortune” is taking active measures in order to protect the show. According to one of the Wheel spokespeople, there are protocols in place that follow current government guidelines protecting Pat Sajak and Vanna White, hosts of the Wheel of Fortune game show.

COVID is getting in the way of internships BY ANTHONY PIETREWICZ AND MATTHEW RUTHERFORD STAFF WRITERS COVID is in the middle of many young people’s roads to success. It is already hard enough for students to find and start a career, and 2020 is not making it any easier. Imagine working hard your whole life for your dream job or position to be "unavailable for reasons related to COVID-19." This worst-case scenario is becoming a reality as virtual classrooms and remote working have created a barrier between the prospective interns and the corporations they want to involve themselves in. “Job fairs have been somewhat limited,” sophomore business management major, Gretchen Nolan said. She wants to find an internship that applies to her degree but she feels constrained to what the CCPD job fairs have offered. “I specifically want an internship where my talents are useful and I can develop. I am doing this for my future.” She is frustrated with how few companies are looking for interns. Nolan is not alone in this plight, yet she understands “It’s just the state of the world right now.” Though she is annoyed with how COVID is affecting her professional life, Nolan is optimistic to start her future career as soon as she can. Mason Smith, a sophomore accounting major, has been to three separate job fairs between this semester and his freshman semesters. He too has issues with the virtual direction companies have been going down. “Doing it [finding internships] online feels informal and made it a struggle to get that one-on-one personal feel.” Smith continued to voice his opinion about the “virtual barrier,” as “it takes away from building in-person social skills, key to establishing a successful career.” He has realized that finding an internship by means of a job fair will not be easy, he is already exploring other resources he has in the accounting field. “The number of internships has declined slightly, or it looks different in the way the internships are

internship on LinkedIn, as well as saying the internship was ‘canceled’ as ‘rescinded’ sounds like it could be the student’s fault. If a student takes a new internship, this needs to be taken off the resume and LinkedIn to be replaced by the new internship.
It is also worth noting that Gabriele touched on internships in the healthcare field as well. “But you also have to remember that we have healthcare interns that are working on the front lines,” Gabriele said. “It’s possible that those face-to-face internships have increased. ”
Students have had many different experiences with internships because of COVID. Everyone is working together to try and make it the best experience possible. These companies want students to come in because they need to hire people. The students want the field experience and maybe even a job at the company that hired them for the internships. Nobody knows what the future holds, but hopefully students can intern normally again soon.
Some students who had their internship offers rescinded and are left wondering if they should include that on a resume. The National Association of Colleges and Employers says that students should. Students need to include on their resume that it was canceled specifically due to COVID. NACE also suggests putting the

Apple launches special feature for showcasing music videos BY PRYCE JAMISON STAFF WRITER
Apple has recently launched its brand new “Apple Music TV” which is a 24 hour live streamed curation of popular music videos. According to the announcement, it will overall consist of “exclusive new music videos and premiers, special curated music video blocks and live shows and events as well as chart countdowns and guests.” Premiering the morning of October 19, it started off with a countdown of the top 100 all-time most-streamed songs on Apple Music in the U.S. This feature is now available on Apple Music and the Apple TV app if you already have a subscription, no extra charges. For years it's been rumored that Apple has been trying to expand their platform for showcasing music videos, performances and interviews, which has been largely dominated by platforms such as YouTube and Vevo. They’re also taking the approach for displaying different footage into original content, as well as throwing all of their past original content into the mix of the feature such as interviews and concert films.
so simply what you see is what you get. This is what viewers quickly noticed as the feature is still in the early stages. When comparing it to platforms such as YouTube and Google TV, Apple Music TV has yet to grow as respected and grow the video reputation that they have, as those two have more of a wide variety of content and options to choose from, that a lot of the time isn’t just music. YouTube is also completely free to watch and upload content as we all know, which isn’t how these Apple platforms are commonly known to operate. “Me being a big fan of music videos, maybe when I’m in the mood to watch some newly released ones, this can be the first thing I resort to,” Sean Beers, sophomore communications major, said. Even if that feature can’t stand completely tall with the established giants, it can still aim to dominate and perfect the craft from a music
standpoint, with all of the premiers and specials they plan to have with certain artists. One special curation that has taken place so far was on the 22nd, where the channel dedicated the day to a Bruce Springsteen takeover in advance of his upcoming album, “Letter to You”, with dedicated music video blocks and an exclusive interview with Zane Lowe. There have also been documentaries in the works such as Billie Eilish’s “The World’s a Little Blurry” which is coming in February, and have been said they gotten the green light for a Prince documentary. Every Friday, music videos will be premiered by a wide range of our favorite artists, and these are only the first steps of Apple’s elevation with this feature they’re going to continue to push to the masses. PRYCEJAMISON3@GMAIL.COM
“The whole idea of this brings me back to the old MTV vibes,” Gio Giordano, sound recording and music technology major at Montgomery County Community College, said. “It will surely be nostalgic for a lot of people.” He isn’t the only one who had thought of this comparison, as it’s been compared to the MTV channel that has been displaying videos and concert footage for 24 hours straight since the 80s. This legendary concept has been something that has lost popularity through this generation, but Apple is expecting to utilize this feature to raise their platform to even more of a level of versatility, while bringing the concept back with their own twist. There aren’t any ads present through the daily live streams and there aren’t any specific genres or channels,

Can you actually make money on poshmark? BY LAUREN KELLEY PERSPECTIVES EDITOR
I was a full time athlete in high school, which made it impossible for me to get a job during the school year. I needed a way to earn spending money that worked with my complicated schedule.
I took a clear picture of the dress and a few close-ups of the tags, the design and the silhouette. I learned that buyers always want to see the tags on clothing items to make sure they are authentic.
I didn’t want to drain my bank account of the money I made from working over the summer, so I had to come up with something. I decided to start to sell some of my clothes, shoes and accessories online. After doing some research on some of the popular sites for this kind of business, I settled on Poshmark.
I listed the dress for $20. I wrote a clear and honest description and made sure to reply to any comments that I got. I received an offer for $18 and gladly accepted! Poshmark sent me a prepaid shipping label, I packed up the dress and brought it to the post office. It was so easy!
Since creating my account in 2015, I have made nearly $2,000. It’s not much when you consider it’s been over five years, but I would definitely consider myself a wellversed “Posher.” I made my first sale just four days after posting my first listing! I found Poshmark to be incredibly more user friendly than its other competing selling platforms. They make it very easy to open up your account and offer an endless amount of tips to help you be successful on their platform. In their “Guide to Poshmark” section, they detail any and every question you could possibly have. Want to know how to create an eye-catching listing? They’ve got you. Want to learn some of the lingo that the Poshers use? They’ve got you! Any question you could possibly have can be answered in Poshmarks Guide. They do an incredible job of being clear and concise, and they explain everything to a “t”. I like that the platform uses personal language. All of their FAQ and Guide sections are written in a way that makes you feel like you are talking with a friend. Poshmark calls their users “Poshers” and our profiles are called our closets. I love this small detail that makes everything feel a bit more personal. My first listing was a J. Crew dress that my mom was going to donate to the thrift store. I had read in my research that well known brands always do best when reselling clothing online, so I decided I would list the dress.
Poshmark takes 20 percent of your sales, so I made $14.40. While some users see this as a high percentage, I see it as very fair because I don’t have to worry about buying a shipping label. Anyways, you can always factor this into your listing price. If I wanted to make a full $18 off of the listing, I would have had to list the dress for $23. Five years ago, the brands that sold well for me were J. Crew, PINK by Victoria’s Secret and American Eagle. Today, my Free People and Urban Outfitters listings tend to sell the quickest. It’s neat to look back at all of my sales over the years and see how the trends and popular brands have changed. One important thing to remember about reselling items online is that not everything is going to sell fast, or even sell at all. Gently used items or items that still have the tags attached tend to do best on Poshmark. Items with stains, holes or any kind of damage are usually not worth listing. If you have something new or slightly used that is just gathering dust in your closet, consider reselling! Reselling and using second hand items helps decrease the global textile demand and the waste that comes with it. Whether it’s an old prom dress, a jacket that doesn’t fit you anymore or a purse you no longer care for- reselling is a win-win for everyone. Consider reselling if you’re looking to make a little extra money while also being environmentally conscious.

I never knew online high school would help me with this semester BY ERICA ZEBROWSKI STAFF WRITER
You think one semester of online school is tough? Try four years of it. I participated in online schooling all four years of high school. When I was in 8th grade, I was taken out of public school because of my severe anxiety. I decided that it was in my best interest to do my high school education online. When I first started online school in ninth grade, it was tough. I had no motivation to do my schoolwork. Since my mom was a stay-at-home mom, she was there to help and support me. She taught me that I needed to stay on a schedule and keep up with my work. Over the course of my freshman and sophomore year, I tried different techniques to stay organized and motivated. I tried learning how to take notes from online courses. I tried flashcards, web note-taking and planning out my day the night before. None of those techniques really worked for me. I eventually figured out what worked best for me and stuck with it. Writing my goals on paper really helped me succeed and stay organized. Since it helped me in high school, I have applied a similar tactic in college. Every day I write down each of my courses, what assignment is due and when. I set goals for myself to do a specific assignment on a specific day. My first year at Cabrini was all face-to-face classes. This was a huge difference from going to sitting in my dining room doing school on a computer, to being thrown into a class setting. It was difficult at first because I was adjusting to being back in a classroom. Instead of my anxieties taking control, I flipped them around and made them into productive thoughts. I stuck with it and implemented the organizational skills I picked up from being online all four years of high school. Although it was easy to stay organized and on top of my school work, note-taking was another story. With online schooling, I could take notes directly from the lessons and put them into my notes online. I would just copy and paste. I know it was not the smartest thing to do, but I was in high school so I was looking for the easiest route. Now that I’m in college, I don’t have the ability to pause a professor and copy
and paste notes. I’ve had to quickly pick up techniques on the fly. This is where I unknowingly picked up the outlining technique of note-taking. The outlining technique is where you create a bullet list of notes. “Every major topic of the lecture or meeting will be placed farthest to the left of the page. Subtopics will be added using an indent to the right. Each supporting fact or note is placed below the subtopic, using another indent,” the Goodnotes website said. There are advantages and disadvantages to this style of note-taking, just like any others. What is important is that you need to find a style that specifically works best for you. There are several types such as the Cornell method, mind mapping method, flow notes method and the charting method. “There are all kinds of strategies and systems in place to be taking notes,” the Lifehack website said. My advice for students struggling with online courses this semester is to have a good plan in place by staying organized and keeping good notes. Find what works best for you, stick with it and you’ll do great. ERICA4SHORT@GMAIL.COM

AEC meets to discuss spring BY TY DAUBERT SPORTS EDITOR The Atlantic East Conference released an update last week on its efforts to hold sports this upcoming spring. The conference’s council of presidents held a meeting last Thursday to examine the possible ways to hold a spring season, the AEC announced. Regular and postseasons for all sports were discussed with the goal of “(providing) an opportunity for all studentathletes to compete in the spring semester pending further NCAA guidelines and counsel from local and state healthcare officials.” The council will meet again when more guidelines are announced by the NCAA. The conference will look for ways to properly test for COVID-19 in order to hold a safe spring season. Of course, the attempt to hold a spring sports season comes after the AEC canceled all competition before 2021. Teams on Cabrini’s campus are still practicing, but competition between schools will not be taking place until at least the start of the new year. The conference may try to hold seasons for sports typically played in the fall during the spring. This would be in addition to the traditional spring seasons taking place.

Sports betting becomes popular at colleges BY CIERRA SOUTHARD STAFF WRITER
Now that college students are unable to attend sporting events, they are looking for ways to keep the games exciting while watching through a television screen. One of those ways is sports betting. Sports betting has become extremely popular on college campuses for those of age. According to the National Center for Responsible Gaming, 75 percent of the college students had gambled in some form or way in the past year. Sports bettors are those who already have knowledge of the game and want to use that knowledge in order to win extra cash. Some may do extra research in order try and solidify their bet and earnings. Some of these sites include FanDuel, DraftKings, Fox Bet, and Barstool Sportsbook. Many of these sites offer a riskfree bet for your first bet on the site. This means if you lose your first bet, you will get a refund of up to $1,000 based on the wager, which is appealing to college students. On May 14, 2018, the Supreme Court lifted the federal ban on sports betting. Since then 19 states, including Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware, have legalized the practice. Four more states have passed a bill, while nine others have an active bill in place. Each state varies on their regulations concerning sports betting inside their state. For example, a common prohibition throughout the states is that you cannot bet on games involving in-state college teams from the state you are betting in. Ryan Cutter, senior business management major, is very big on betting on NFL and NBA games, but prefers to bet on the MLB
because he is good at it and has grown up paying attention to the sport. “FanDuel is my top pick site to bet on because it is so convenient. I like to place high wages because my confidence is through the roof when I place a bet,” he said. Chase Claypool
As a college student, Cutter says that he bets because of “the thrill of it and to hopefully make a little extra cash while watching the games,” he said. Alumnus Anthony Linder-Creo, former business management major, said that his friends had influenced him to begin sports betting. “We all came from some sort of athletic background and we’d always make bets with each other when games were on,” he said. Now, out of college, Linder-Creo said that his favorite site is FanDuel. “You can make same game parlays, which combine different selections of a certain game into one parlay, which usually has a bigger payout,” he said. When determining how much he puts on a bet he said, “it all depends. I will throw five dollars on a parlay and try to guess on every NFL game, or I’ll bet anywhere from $50$100 on a team I know will win.” He said that he normally bets on NFL games because they have the better odds, or he will pick basketball because they have combined player props with the team’s money line included, which in return has a higher payout. Football is said to be the easiest sports to bet on followed by horse racing and then cricket betting. The reason that football seems to be the easiest is because once you have the right tips for the leagues, markets and

divisions, there is an 80 percent assurance that you will earn some winnings. Most college students who are sports betting are beginners because they are just becoming of legal age to participate in the activity. Some tips and tricks include to start with small bets in order to try different strategies of what works for you. Another is to only focus on one sport to primarily bet on. This allows for an opportunity to build up knowledge that helps pick winners. Finally, it is important to be unbiased when it comes to choosing a sports bet. It is okay to pick your favorite team, but it is not a way to become a winner. If you want to win, look for games and teams in an unbiased way. CNS78@CABRINI.EDU

Rock Climbing club sees growth
BY ERICA ZEBROWSKI STAFF WRITER
Since the start of the rock climbing club last year, there has been a surge in participation. Each week lots of Cabrini students sign up to go rock climbing. “Since last semester, we have gained a lot of traction. The club now meets every week instead of twice monthly,” Rachel Hetrick, a sophomore graphic design major, said. “We also have many people who have continued to sign up every week.” Last year the club met twice monthly to climb but since then they now meet every Friday at The Gravity Vault Radnor. The club can only bring 10 students per climbing session due to club rules. “We go to the local rock climbing gym and climb for about two hours,” David Tilton, a sophomore special elementary education, said. When climbing the students follow the safety procedures the Gravity Vault Radnor has enforced. “The gym allows us to take them off while we are on the wall, but I often don’t because I am in the habit of wearing a mask all the time,” Hetrick said. “We are doing our part by washing our hands before and after climbing,” Hetrick said. “When climbing we do have to wear a mask,” Tilton said. “It’s also harder sometimes to rock climb when you’re wearing a mask,” Tilton said. He says the mask can hinder your ability to see sometimes and wearing a mask can also lead to overheating.
“I’m not concerned,” Tilton said. “As long as you follow the rules and guidelines that the club and the gym have there shouldn’t be any concern for your safety,” Tilton said regarding COVID-19 concerns. “In my opinion, it is safe to climb during the pandemic as long as everyone is doing their part to stay home when they are sick, wash their hands, social distance and wear a mask,” Hetrick said. “It is always a good idea to wash up after being at the gym, even before pandemic times,” Hetrick said. “I’ve been climbing for years now,” Tilton said. Tilton used to do competitive rock climbing till he sustained an injury to his shoulder. Last year Tilton and Max Silverman decided to join forces and create the club since they have similar goals and interests regarding rock climbing. “The reason I love climbing is because its a great and fun workout. I always feel like I am testing my limits,” Tilton said. “I climbed a bit as a kid but started climbing regularly in the summer of 2019. I often go with my sister to Philadelphia Rock Gyms.” Hetrick said. “I love rock climbing because it is challenging and it brings people together,” Hetrick said. She says being at the gym always makes her happy. ERICA4SHORT@GMAIL.COM The club has grown this semester.

Soccer practice resume after coronavirus-related stoppage BY CIERRA SOUTHARD STAFF WRITER
The Cabrini soccer teams have resumed team activities following a COVID-19-related stoppage. Several weeks ago, both the women’s and men’s soccer teams got shut down due to coronavirus concerns. Practices were immediately put to a halt, as quarantining began. At an off-campus function, someone who does not attend Cabrini showed up and while at the function began experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 as the night progressed. The following day, this person tested positive and the people that were in contact with this person the previous night were quickly notified. Players received an email from Bridget Spence, the director of Health Services at Cabrini, to discuss further instructions going forward. The men’s team was told to quarantine for 14 days, while only certain players on the women’s team who were contacted through contact tracing were told to quarantine for the 14-day period. Any players who lived off campus also had to notify their roommates and they were recommended by Health Services to quarantine as well. Other people who were believed to be in contact with this person were also instructed to quarantine.
said. He explained how the virus could have been very easy to spread at practice due to the amount of contact there is in the sport. He said that it was really smart to stop everything and quarantine the players to reduce the risk of the virus spreading throughout the teams. Kimberly Benge, senior psychology major, said that putting practices on a hold was the right decision to make and was best for everyone. Without quarantining the players, the situation could have ended up being a lot worse for the teams In situations like these, it is important “to be careful who we surround ourselves with and to be cautious of the situations we put ourselves in,” she said. Now, after fulfilling the two-week quarantine requirement, the soccer teams have now resumed practices. The men’s team practices three times a week in two separate pods to eliminate contact with other players. The women’s team is back to practicing three days a week as well. CNS78@CABRINI.EDU
Practices were stopped for two weeks and the players who were contacted were not allowed to be in the Dixon Center on campus. Players on the men’s team were required to get tested and, after results came in, there was only one positive test. Dav Conigliaro, junior international business major, said that whoever had spoken up and told someone that someone there had tested positive and there was a risk of a potential spread of the virus “had made the mature and right decision.” “Ultimately our health comes first and is our main priority,” he said. “Although quarantine was rather annoying, it was important for us all to quarantine in order to be safe and smart by not increasing the spread on a college campus,” Conigliaro said. As a college student, he said that it is important to take social distancing more seriously, as priorities sometimes may be skewed. After finding out about the potential risk of contracting the virus, junior Zach Garcia, marketing major, said that he was worried, but not only for his own health, but for his friends as well. He had a fear of not knowing if he had caused it to spread to someone else. “I was bummed out because I knew I wouldn’t be able to play soccer or see my family and friends. However, I knew it was the smartest thing to do and it had to be done,” he

Phillies fans wonder if team will retain catcher Realmuto BY NAISER WARREN-ROBINSON STAFF WRITER
As the 2020 MLB season comes to an end, teams like the Phillies now are tasked with deciding which players they want to keep in their organizations. One of the Phillies’ more notable free agents set to hit the market this year is their star-studded catcher J.T. Realmuto. Realmuto is widely recognized as the best catcher in baseball. In 2019, Realmuto played exceptionally well for the Phillies, earning the Silver Slugger award for the National League and the Gold Glove Award at his position. Realmuto is entering his eighth season in the MLB, joining the Phillies via trade in February of 2019. According to MLB.com, Realmuto is targeting a contract within the $200 million range. If Realmuto was to land this contract he’d not only become the highest-paid catcher in the MLB, but he’d also be the highest-paid catcher in MLB history. Comments made by the team’s former general manager Matt Klentak and managing partner John Middleton suggest that the team’s chances of resigning Realmuto aren’t guaranteed. “We still love the player. We’d still love to have him in red pinstripes for the long haul. But there’s a lot of uncertainty in the game right now on a variety of levels. We just need to play that out,” said Klentak to The Press of Atlantic City reporters earlier in the year.
Despite the comments being made by team management, fans and even Phillies players have expressed their desire to have Realmuto back. One of the more noteworthy voices being heard amongst the cries of people asking for the Phillies to re-sign Realmuto comes from Bryce Harper, the Phillies’ star outfielder. Harper has demanded on numerous occasions that the Phillies re-sign Realmuto, expressing this belief as recently as the end of the 2020 regular season. “J.T. Realmuto needs to be our catcher next year — plain and simple,” Harper said to reporters after the Phillies’ last game of the season. Fans have expressed similar beliefs, with students at Cabrini sharing a similar sentiment in regard to Realmuto’s potential re-signing. “Regardless of his age, when you have a talent as good as Realmuto playing for your team, you got to find some way to keep him,” Kevin Waldron, junior marketing major, said. “I’m a huge fan of J.T. so it would suck to see him walk this offseason for nothing at all.” When asked if he thinks the team will actually sign Realmuto, Waldron responded with a no, pointing towards the team’s other problems and gaps that may be tackled during the offseason.
