A juvenile attorney should also be able to connect with minors, be able to explain what is going to happen in court, and what crime they are charged with if any. When a juvenile attorney is paid it can be paid for by the government or by the family. When the government is responsible for the fees the juvenile attorney will be court-appointed and chosen by the government. When the juvenile is representing a minor in civil matters they are representing the best interest of the child. For example, if the parents are getting a divorce and it is a contentious divorce, the judge may appoint a guardian ad litem or juvenile attorney to be sure that the child’s best interests are represented, especially if the court feels the child may in some way be in danger.


A juvenile attorney can also represent a minor’s best interest in family law matters that involve the family and the government. For example, the government may be trying to take a minor away from the home and put them in foster care because of abuse, neglect, etc and the attorney’s job would be to make sure that the minor receives the best possible care.
