Owning a Manufactured Home Mobile homes and manufactured homes are two words meaning the same thing. A mobile or manufactured home is a pre-constructed home with attached wheels for transportation to its permanent or temporary site. The wheels are detached after it is transported to its setting point. When the term mobile home trailer park became a highly negative phrase in the 50’s, manufacturers began to petition for a name change. Hence the term “manufactured homes” was born. A lot of people are confused about the difference between a manufactured home and a mobile home. The answer is there is no true difference. A manufactured home is simply the upgraded version of the original mobile homes. With a lot of vacationers or adventurous folk looking for a temporary site, manufactured homes for sale are a welcome and convenient concept. Characteristics of Manufactured Homes • These structures are designed to be moved from place to place. They are fitted with wheels during manufacturing and these wheels allow for easy mobility although the wheels are detached once the house arrives at its intended site. • They are terrible at weathering storms. These structures are usually the worst to be damaged in the face of fierce storms and other natural occurrences. Strong winds can easily completely overturn or demolish mobile homes. They are fitted with requirements for tie-downs to secure the building during a storm. • Mobile homes come in two sizes; single-wides and double-wides. The singles are a maximum 18 feet (5.5m) in width and a maximum of 90 feet (29m) in length. Double-wides come in a size of a minimum 20 feet (6.1m) in width and 90 feet (27 m) in length. They are built as two separate units and towed to the site where they are assembled. • They are assembled, much like a puzzle piece, at their temporary or permanent site. In the 1920’s it was a popular sight to see trailers hitched to the back of a van or truck. This is how the name came about; the trailers “trailed” behind the automobile pulling it. Over time, the structures became bigger and more elaborate. Even though the primary aim of a mobile home is to serve as a travelling home, they began to function as permanent residences in spaces cleared to accommodate mobile home trailers. The Difference Between a Modular Home and a Manufactured Home There is constantly the question of what the differences are between the modular home structures and a trailer homes for sale in Sarasota. Modular homes are constructed in large pieces. These pieces are then transferred to the intended site where they are assembled and fitted together to make the finished structure.
