What to look for in a good dog breeder

What to Look for in a Good Dog Breeder The sad truth is that many dog breeders treat their animals very poorly, conducting business as a puppy mill rather than a respectable breeding business. Unfortunately, pet shops are rapidly becoming a thing of the past, leaving us with either a breeder or an animal shelter to choose from when we are looking for a puppy to buy for our families. This limited range of choices presents a few problems to contend with. If you are looking for a particular breed, like a bull terrier for sale for example, there is absolutely no guarantee that you can find one at a shelter and, if you do happen to find one, chances are it will not be a puppy that you can train from the start. Plus, you never know what kind of behavior you might be dealing with in a shelter pet. The potential problems with going through a bull terrier breeder are a whole different ball of wax, so to speak. If you do not research carefully into the bull terrier breeder you plan to work with, you could very easily end up with an animal that is very sickly or has something wrong with it because of inhumane breeding practices and unsafe living conditions. Thankfully, there are several things you can do when exploring bull terrier kennels to ensure that your puppy is healthy and strong. First of all, make absolutely certain that you visit the bull terrier kennels you are considering in person! That way, you can see with your own eyes and smell with your own nose what is going on in each kennel. A visit in person also allows you to see the animals that are being bred so you have a nearly exact idea of what the puppies will look like when they are born.

Second, during your visit to a bull terrier breeder, make sure you look into the kennel's breeding practices. A puppy mill sort of place will be keeping their females pregnant constantly in order to produce as many puppies as fast as they can. This is a HORRIBLE way to treat dogs of any breed and it will eventually kill the females and, the puppies will get sicker and weaker with each subsequent litter. A respectable bull terrier breeder, on the other hand, keeps his dogs on a strict breeding schedule to ensure that the females of plenty of time to recover before they are pregnant again. There are a few other things to look for when you visit bull terrier kennels – you want to see an environment that has plenty of space and that is clean. You want to see clean bowls full of FRESH food and water. And, you want to watch the humans interact with their bull terriers. If all of these conditions are met on your visit, then it is a really good bet that your puppy from that bull terrier kennel will be safe and healthy!
