Introduction The Lord Wandsworth Foundation grew from the bequest left by Lord Wandsworth. His will contained instructions to establish an orphanage bearing his name, for children of agricultural workers. From this beginning, the College has evolved into a co-educational day and boarding school for children aged 1118. At the heart of the College, Lord Wandsworth’s legacy continues to live on through the work of the Lord Wandsworth Foundation. The Foundation supports children who have been bereaved of one or both parents or who have lost their support through other circumstances, to benefit from the stability, structure and pastoral care provided by our award-winning boarding environment.

We aim to support 50 Foundation pupils at any one time and give priority to young people who have experienced the death of a parent, and preference to those born in the UK. The charitable spirit with which Lord Wandsworth founded the College lives on. All our pupils are conscious of this, and a sense of inclusion and collective responsibility for the happiness of others is strong here. In fact, it is paramount.

Applications Each case is considered on an individual basis with the child’s best interests at the centre of every discussion. When assessing applications, we take into account the need for pastoral care and a supportive, structured environment, and the likely impact of a Foundation place. Foundation places are available for entry into Year 7 (1st Form), Year 9 (3rd Form), and into Sixth Form.

All Foundation pupils are expected to meet the normal academic entrance requirements of the College.

Parents/guardians of applicants may approach the Foundation directly or via a third party, such as a primary school or children’s charity. We are a Royal National Children’s Springboard Foundation school and work closely with Buttle UK, the NFL Trust and many other charities.

Awards are means-tested and subject to annual review and there is generally an expectation of some financial contribution from parents/guardians. There is no registration fee for Foundation applicants.
